CANADA - Has anybody rooted there phone yet? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wounding if anybody has rooted there phone yet. I happen to say the hell with it and I tryed the root for the SM-g925t on my Canadian SM-g925w8 and it work great as of right now.. hopefully nothing happens but its been working a full 24 hours now. I though why not, they are both Edges. I also done the same back on my S4 with a AT&T ROOT and it worked fine!
If you try, post here to prove to people its working! Thanks!

Somebody else posted the same result yesterday (might have been on the regular S6 board). It's great that we have that option. But I'm going to hold off on root for now because of the following.
Apparently you currently cannot unroot an S6/S6e (short of re-flashing the entire firmware via Odin). Furthermore, there is currently an issue with CF-Auto-Root in that it messes up your stock recovery, leading to people being unable to do factory resets and such (see the CF-Auto-Root threads).
T-Mobile already had an OTA that seems to fix a lot of major bugs, and I imagine other carriers will have it soon as well. I definitely want the first couple of OTAs, so I think I'll be putting off root until at least a quick and easy unroot method exists and the stock recovery doesn't get compromised.

I'm going to hold off as well on my other phone. I was just dieing to try it and luckily enough its working.

Thanks a very good point. I'm with you on that one. I've got my note4 to cater to my flashaholic tendencies an I won't mess with the s6's root just yet.

Yes but living in Canada anyone can tell you that payment options such as interac flash take years to come out to all retailers, let alone Samsung pay lol

Even Apple pay does not work, Iwould just wait for rbc to support the edge for their mobile wallet app.. used to work perfectly fine on my HTC one my and z2

Successful root with SM-G920W8! Used G920F from Chainfire!

I wonder then if the SM-G925F would work for the edge SM-G925W8 since @Brava27 confirmed the G920F worked with his S6 SM-G920W8

To root or not to root

After my last bad experience with Xperia zl and after reading how other people have experienced issues after rooting their note 3 I was wondering if rooting has any adverse effects on the phones functionality. What are cons of rooting?
There's bit of lag on note 3 which is really annoying for such a beast.
Any advice would be much appreciated thanks

root it, that is all.
Forget what everyone says about problems, Even if you were to brick this thing it can be restored to stock through odin. I have been screwing with this thing since it came out and my team has done quite a bit to it. Ones even working on a full rom atm.
Just do it!

If you use the CF-AutoRoot method and follow the directions step by step (perhaps also remove SIM-Card and SD-Card before setting the phone in download mode and running Odin) then you should have a flawless experience, it took me less than 10 minutes out of the box and I was rooted and ready to go.
Chainfire and QbKing77 have put together comprehensive guides on rooting the Note 3 for just about every provider. Just make sure you choose the correct .tar file for your phone model.
Root your device at your own risk. Using this root method sets current binary and system status to custom. Additionally, it will also trigger the KNOX warranty void status. The KNOX warranty status change is permanent, and a service center may deny warranty based on this flag – even if the other flags are reset correctly. The KNOX flag being tripped may also prevent certain Samsung KNOX features from working (enterprise security features).
If you're worried about the losing your warranty, wait for a KNOX workaround, or a potential TriangleAway update.

Not sure if you're referring to my suggestion. The reason I recommend removing the SD-Card and SIM-Card is to prevent the chance of ODIN wiping any data from them. An old habit but prevention is the best solution. Bricks are no fun.
Also remember that restoring does not work with the note 3 yet so nandoids don't work and if u do a restore, u will not be able to Odin back to stock from what I've read. I will wait until all the kinks are worked out

If you bought the phone retail you should have 14 days to return the phone. The Black Note 3 that I picked up from Best Buy on Friday was an upgrade from Sprint. I tooled around with it, rooted and installed a customer recovery on Saturday and tried to install a ROM yesterday. Things went awry and I ended up with a brick Black Note 3 and rather then waste time trying to unbrick it I returned it to BestBuy this morning and exchanged it for the white model.
Some might argue that it's not cool to do that because the phone will be relegated to pre owned status and Sprint/Samsung will have to write of the depreciated value of a two day old as a loss.
I don't care though because I signed a 2 year contract with Sprint and they'll screwing me for a lot more and for a much longer them then I could have ever screwed them.

What does this have to do with the original question asked... Also if your to lazy to unbrick this phone which is only about 10 clicks and 10 minutes long then that's not very impressive to me. A lot of respect is lost in this post.. I may not agree with sprints prices but still that's not cool

It has a lot to do with the original question. The question was whether or not to root and the answer mitigated the danger of having a root gone bad. It had nothing to do with being Lazy. I wasn't able to fix the phone in 10 clicks or 1,000 clicks and I spent much more than 10 minutes trying. After trying to flash the firmware didn't work I began to run out of idea's but it didn't stop me from trying. It's a new device and I wasn't able to locate many resources to help my guess it they haven't been created yet.
I said it's not something I normally do but I justified it because of the 10 years of repressed anger I have towards Sprint. I'm still annoyed at having to pay a monthly surcharge for having a smartphone beginning in 2010 with the HTC EVO 4G. And despite Sprints marketing the phone as 4G I never got 4G with that phone. Then there was the mismanaged OTA ICS update from Sprint. I could make a list of things to complain about to Sprint but there is no recourse after you sign the contract because you have no leverage.

Galaxy Mega 6.3 That can be Modded

I have a really dumb question.
I love playing around with Android phones and installing CWM, ROMs and so on.
I have an AT&T Mega 6.3 and the issue is, I cannot do ANYTHING to this guy. Now that I'm on 4.4 I cannot even ROOT lol..
I see there are some AMAZING ROMs for the Mega i9200 but they will NOT flash on my AT&T Mega.
Question is: What Carrier or Version of the Mega should I buy so that I can have my fun playing? Or, is there a way to CRACK this AT&T version that I am missing?
If it even matters, I use mine on Straight Talk and don't care about any warranty.

Either I get lucky or maybe they are different but I have a metropcs mega and I have tried every rom that is available with only one hick up. When someone calls me the screen stays black no matter what I do until they hang up, if i do get the screen on nothing happens. Only with KitKat roms. My neighbor has the att version and ive installed four different roms on his without an issue.

You sure about that?
Please explain to everyone else that has ATT version i527, how you flashed when there is no recovery. So many inquiring minds would love to know.
As far as the i527M, which I do not have, is apparently ok to flash anything from SILESH NAIR. Dont hold my word as scripture, but I beleive only the ATT is being strangled by the locked bootloader issue.
Please correct me if I am wrong, we are all learning constantly, but if you have successfully flashed a rom on ATT version......please step over to one of the many threads created in development and share your wisdom

Root and Mobile Payments

I just received my S6E and I know I read earlier that CF noted that rooting may trip KNOX and disable the mobile payment system. Has anyone been able to verify whether or not this is actually the case? I'd love to root my phone, if for no other reason but to get Titanium up and running but I really would like to keep the mobile payment system intact. Thanks in advance.
Update: I have trouble reading sometimes and didn't realize/remember that Samsung Pay won't be available until later this summer. However, if anyone does come across any additional information related to this, I would be happy to hear about it.
Yes, unfortunatelly rooting your s6/s6 edge may disable the phone’s ability to use samsung pay, so be carefull.
Chainfire said:
Before actually rooting though, consider that KNOX will likely be tripped, and there's a good chance untripped KNOX will be required for phone based payments.

I'm curious to know this too. I ALWAYS root my Android phones especially for Adblocker and even more importantly Greenify. I'm worried tripping the Knox sensor will make it so I can't use Samsung Pay and I'd really like to use that, especially since it even works with magnetic readers! I'm worried that since SP won't launch until the Summer that no one will truly know what effect, if any, tripping the Knox sensor will have. I'm going to hold off on rooting for now, as tough as I KNOW that will be LOL.
Yeah sucks but I'm. Holing off too. I mainly root for custom roms and kernel... But do far the phone is managing well so. I can definitely hold off

Considering that I can't stay without:
Titanium Backup Pro
AdBlock Plus for Android (without having to do stuff manually)
Xposed Framework
Unlocked Tethering
And who know what else!
I will definitely root and who cares if I won't be able to use Samsung Pay!
There are still other payment system coming out or already existing!
I haven't rooted because of Samsung Pay and also because we'll I mainly. Root. For custom recoveries and roms which none are available as the device isn't widely available

[Q] About Samsung Pay/Google Pay

So, i have S6 edge 925f with original rom, no rooted.
But i found myself struggling btw poor performance of original rom, waiting forever for new updates and other side: Samsung Pay.
The only reason that i didnt root/flash my phone is because i want use samsung pay, so my question is Google Pay gonna be something similar as samsung pay ? if so i can happily break ehem, flash my phone, for better use.

Google Pay will not utilize the proprietary technology used in samsung pay, it will be NFC only. As far as history is concerned, you will not be able to use it if you're rooted. I don't think it will check knox 0x1 though
I've found the link to be able to download the Samsung Pay Beta .apk file but I haven't figured out how to get it to install. Does someone else want to try? I'm stuck on a Samsung S6 Edge running 5.0.2. I wonder if you have to have 5.1.1 to run it.
Korea Link - https://kr.mpay.samsung.com/apk
US Link - https://us.mpay.samsung.com/apk
Here's a download link for the Samsung Pay .apk file I found on the Korean link. It lets me install it on my Samsung S6 Edge+ running android 5.1.1.

I heard that Samsung pat will work as long as knox stays 0x0; root by itself will not disable it. You seem to have the opposite opinion.

I downloaded it agreed to the terms and logged in and then inside the app there was a link that said "Join Samsung Pay Beta". So far it doesn't do anything, but it seems promising that it might work tomorrow after the beta has officially begun.

me too......No love for us on VZW
I hate Verizon. Why does their cell service have to be so good. I'm on unlimited data or else I would switch. What does this have to do with root? I have this phone and I want root. I wish I knew how to do things like this. I can follow other peoples methods but I wish I knew how so I could contribute.
I had to pull the plug on my Note Edge yesterday. I'm tired of the poor performance and seeming lack of interest from Samsung. It may change soon, but I was itching to move on so I did. I jumped on the LG V10 black Friday special from verizon. I could have went with the Note 5, but after four generations of Samsung (S4, Note 3, Note 4, Note Edge) I would like to try something different. I am still keeping my pledge in for root on the Note series!
