you have the MDK bootloader? you know this bootloader can be used with TWRP and can flash AOSP ROMs, right?
Let me rephrase what I was saying I have the Verizon s4 which was MDK bootloader but since it has been updated to nc5 and k1 and so on and I was just looking for a list of ROMs
To use with safestrap however I'm trying to find an mdk odin file and go back to that stock mdk and loki the phone

Once you've upgraded past mdk there is no going back.

Yeah, but back to the original question--is there a list of ROMs 'flashable' with Safestrap?

As long as its a custom recovery and not stock then you're good, right? What is this Loki'd recovery I keep seeing?
It can be something other than TWRP?

As far as custom recoveries on the VZW S4, the recovery must be loki'd.
Here are a couple good reads:

Loki is not specific to TWRP.
Given where we are currently you might to check the build #. Does it end with MDK?

Yes, MDK. Stock rooted.
I installed CWM 6.0.3.2 using ROM Manager a while back.
I have no idea what Loki'd is referring to. About to update CWM to 6.0.3.6 using ROM Manager.
Edit: I looked over the second link and see that Loki is a bootloader hack? When I boot my phone, there is an unlocked picture. When people say Loki'd does it mean unlocked bootloader in general, or that a specific hack has been applied?
I want to switch to a custom ROM, however I keep seeing Loki'd as a prerequisite.
Thanks for your time.

Loki'd = Unlocked bootloader or specific hack?

You will learn quickly that without loki, you will be greeted by a wonderful little yellow triangle.
Loki is a work around to our locked bootloaders. But is easily patched by any and all verizon pushed updates(so don't accept them)
In my signature is links to CWM touch, TWRP 2.5.0.2, and philz recoveries pre-loki'd and ready to flash in whatever recovery you already have.
So im coming from the HTC DNA, just got my S4 today. Rooted and unlocked already. Is there a process to achieve s-off on galaxy devices like htc devices, or is it not needed for flashing radios, splash screens, etc...?

Verizon has it locked down if you're on ME7. No workaround yet.

Interesting. He said he was already rooted & "unlocked". I guess that means he has MDK & has Lokied. So first he needs to be cautioned to not take the ME7 update. As for S-off, would a custom rom /kernel not take care of it?
Edit : if he can install custom recovery & is rooted it should already be taken care of.
If you truly have a locked down ME7 the only current option is developer Hashcode's safestrap method to flash roms.

[EDITED BASED OFF FEEDBACK]
Its hard to gather what order and what defines each build for the Verizon Galaxy S4 without a lot of reading. So here is my understanding! Please correct and or add onto this!!!
MDK - Original Build, can replace recovery, rootable
ME7 - 2nd build, cannot replace recovery, rootable, SafeStrap support
MI1 - 3rd build, cannot replace recovery, rootable, Safestrap support (you can install any ME7, or MI1 roms)
MJ7 - 4th build, cannot replace recovery, rootable, Safestrap is not supported
MK? -

MDK - Original Build, can replace recovery, rootable
ME7 - 2nd build, cannot replace recovery, rootable, extensive SafeStrap support
MI1 - 3rd build, cannot replace recovery, rootable, limited Safestrap support due to limited ROM selection* (HyperDrive only?)
MJ7 - 4th build, cannot replace recovery, rootable, Safestrap is not supported
Is it true that you cannot run ME7 Roms on a MI1 device using Safestrap?

No, You can run any ROM on MI1 that suports Safestrap on ME7 & is based on TouchWiz. You would just flash the MI1 kernel modules after you finish installing the ROM.
The only difference between ME7 and MI1 really is that screen rotation is broken on MI1 if you run a custom rom. Also MK2 is the newest build now.

Thanks this helped me greatly. Going to Odin back to MDK after reading this.

I just got a phone sent back from warranty and it's currently running on the MI1 firmware you can still used xposed framework and stuff if i were to root it right? Would you advise rooting now, or at what stage of firmware?
If you're in MI1 I wouldn't upgrade, it's the last build that you can still run safestrap on.

So i can follow the MI1 root instructions and install safestrap , but will this void my warranty? i heard something about how something like a code change triggers a signal on their servers or something,to void warranty but is that with Knox?
Rooting your phone is technically voiding warranty, although there are ways to get back to complete stock. No servers are triggered and the rooting instructions will have you getrid of knox.

yeah, but there are "unroot" methods right? if i did that and had to use a warranty would they recognize it if i went back to stock recovery and unrooted? i've done a bit of research, only a little fuzzy now, jus cuz I started my saturday night a little early :victory: :good:
I updated my phone from MDK to ME7 when I first purchased it. I also put a custom Google edition ROM 4.2 on it. I'm having trouble finding a guide that tells me how to go back to stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was actually just searching for a fix for my custom recovery lokid mdk phone. I flashed a stock 4.3 mk2 rom and all was well until i tried to flash an aroma mod that caused my phone to go into unauthorized software detected by verizon message on reboot.(it was in the verizon i545 section) thought I'd odin back to mdk and reroot, flash custom recovery, restore back up, etc but now i'm stuck in a stock verizon bootloop. ideas?

OK thanks I'll give it a try tomorrow. I plan on selling my phone to get a new one and I just want it all on stock. After I flash with Odin will safe strap be removed or do I need to do something else to remove it?
Sent from my GT-I9505G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Odin an emergency version that wipes the phone to remove all traces. Others just clear the system and don't touch data.

My first impression if you odined a mk2 stock rom, you have lost your mdk loki exploit.....you have locked your bootloader up. Thats my first impression as I really don't know much about S4 phones before ME7.
Since I started on MDK and updated to ME7 are you sure I need to flash the ME7 stock with Odin instead of MDK? I just want to make sure so I don't soft brick my phone.

If you went up to me7 as an update and not flashable zip, then you cannot go to mdk. No. You have to go to me7.

I have a locked bootloader and what I want to know is if I pay to unlock my phone, does that include my bootloader? Also my baseband has no info. I have downloaded a good app to show me everything about my phone and even it says "unknown" on my baseband. Anyone know another way to find out? I know I'm ng6, ss 3.75 running the echoe rom. Thanks in advance...

You said you were on NG6 and running echoe...I'm assuming you did the downgrade to NC5/root/flash NG6 kernel method. That would mean you are still on the NG6 baseband (or modem or radio, whichever you prefer) unless you flashed something else. I'm also assuming you only downgraded the NG6 kernel to NC5 and not a full NC5 downgrade with an NG6 kernel flash after root. I'm not sure though cuz I don't know what you did...hope this helps you figure it out though.
