[Q] S6 Edge rattle? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Err - does anyone else notice a rattle when you shake your S6 Edge? Right now i'm guessing/hoping that it is the OIS on the camera but I kind of wanted to make sure. I know some other phones have a similar noise and that is due to the camera.

I was going to say it'll probably be the camera, the wife's S5 does it. Turn the camera on and test, if like the s5 it'll stop rattling when the camera is active. I'm getting my edge tomorrow so will test.

OIS might be doing that.

here we go who sits and shakes there phone its not a kids rattle so no need to shake it lol

Remove sim and try to shake.

Hey all, it's definitely the camera - when it's on it doesn't happen. Seems like its normal, does it happen to everyone else?

Hi Guys,
So I somehow stumbled across this forum and can also confirm that my S6 Edge rattles (just had to try it) but doesn't when the camera is on.
I noticed my camera was also off centre, it doesn't effect the camera but it does bug me

See this video it show how the ios moves , this is normal if you look at the camera and move it you will see it moving
https://youtu.be/C60ehMe3wQ8

This also happens to me when the camera is on it stops shaking.. i think its normal as everyone is saying the same thing

[Q] Is it normal that the back camera lens makes noise?

When I open camera app, the back camera lens moves front and back and makes 'clicking' noises as it sort of hits the glass in front it. When taking photos, cant hear any noise. but when switching to video recording mode, the same 'clicking' noises happens again. And switch back to photo shooting mode, the noises persist.
Is this normal? the noise the lens makes?

there shouldnt be an audible noise when Focusing, but certainly when switching from Photo/video there will be a slight noise as the Aperture/Stutter opens/closes etc, its not a major problem

I went to a Carphonewarehouse shop, and tried their demo phone, the lens doesn't make any noise. Besides, in my case, the lens physically moves front and back when you open the carema app and swith between photo/video shooting modes.
My camera does move and makes a slight noise when turning it on or switching to video mode. I assume that is normal behavior. Can't remember if it acted the same when buying the phone, meanwhile i changed the rom from KE1 to KE5 and updated camera from SamsungApps twice.
I had the same problem, it "clicks" two times if you activate the camera. Sometimes (but very seldom) I could even feel the "clicks" while holding the phone.
In some other thread I read a quoted statement from Samsung support that this is a malfunction and the camera will take damage over time.
Since I had the same problem, I contacted support and they asked me to factory reset my phone. That did not help and so they asked to send my phone in for checkup/repair.
Well, it should have arrived today at their repair facility, so I'll just have to wait and see...
yea, i thought i already broke the camera ;-)
Looks like majority, if not all, of S2 cameras behave like that, so i doubt it's a flaw. Some say it's normal, some say it isn't. Guess an official reply from Samsung could make some light on this.
Well, if the Samsung support wanted me to send it in because of this issue, I doubt that this is normal.
Anyway, it really seems normal - just got my phone back. They could not retrace my problem.
Nevertheless, if its turns out to damage my camera somewhere in the future, I have the repair voucher wich should help me in this case.

So your camera still clicks twice when opening it and switching to video mode ?
This is normal, the camera checks that it's ok (the aperture). It does this sometimes when starting up the phone as well.
Is it actually touching the glass cover or does the mechanics just making the noise?

The latter.
Just done some sets under a strong light and can confirm the lens is actually hitting some material. I assume that this is a hardware defect and will have to be fixed some time during your warranty period. When i get some time ill try make a video of it happening.

Actually, you will find that all OC cameras behave the same, i highly doubt that every SII device with an OC camera is broken
Ive had a few phones that do that. I wouldnt worry too much.
Well normal or not here it is, ive posted a youtube video of it happening. you can see the lens does in fact hit the glass.
I am posting this just as an insurance for all the members,so if the cameras starts failing for some reason we can prove it was happening from the very start and get some sort of defect fix?

I could bet 100 dollars that your camera version is OC. Could you please check ?
from what i can see it is down to camera firmware which makes the camera do it. i also think that why some do it and some dont is cause we have the wrong firmware for our camera on the phone. its just being able to get all the firmwares and workout which one doesnt make the noise for our phone
Can we revert back to older camera firmware without factory reset? Kinda regretting upgrading now!

Back camera off centred and moves

Hey,
So I've read the back camera is sometimes off centred with galaxy phones but I noticed with my s6 edge that the back camera slightly moves depending on the angle of the phone.
When I tilt my phone so that the power button is facing down, the back camera looks perfectly centred.
Then when I turn the phone so that the volume buttons is facing down, the back camera moves slight towards the flash & is off centred.
Anyone else notice this?
RISX
That my friend is because of OIS.

Shake your phone with the camera off then Shake it again with the camera active; )
When you say off-centre, you mean under the glass?
Have a double check. I've noticed that it can look off centre in multiple different directions dependent on what light source is above you when you look at it. Maybe I think if you look at it under strong, even lighting (eg outdoors on a nice day) you see it is actually centred.
I can confirm that my camera lens is slightly off-centered as well, doesn't seem to affect function, throughout the OIS movement range the lens is clear of the frame. Still bugs me though...

Focus problem

I've been taking cool photos for like a 2 months. Yesterday I pulled my G5 out of my pocket only to see my main camera screen is blurry. Every other camera seem to focus ok. I try pressing the screen many times to refocus but it doesn't help. I switched to manual and tried to focus manualy but I just can run the bar from right to left only to see more blurry to less blurry. And here is the weird thing. When I mess around with other options in manual mode and quickly press MF (focus option) sometimes (like 1 to 20 tries) it focuses like it used to. When I touch the screen to refocus it goes blurry again. Same when I run from left to right the MF bar. It always goes back to blurry.
I tried reenabling camera, clearing it's data / cache. Today I tried factory reset but the result is all the same.
What could have possibly happend? Do I need to buy new main camera and replace it or just let it be covered by warranty?
Obvious possibility, have you tried cleaning the lens and flash area on back? A smudge or scratch on the focus/light sensor or lens could stop it focusing.
Bringing out an old thread, my G5 started to do this a few weeks ago and have yet to find a solution. Did you find any way to fix it or did you replace it?
My G5 started doing this recently as well. Sometimes, especially when the phone is facing down and tries to focus, you can hear a buzzing sound. It seems to me that this is likely a hardware issue and the mechanism that moves the lens in and out to focus is stripped or not meshing correctly. If I shake the phone, I can hear the lens rattling around. I'll be going into AT&T looking for a replacement/repair.
Mine started doing it this morning. The camera is basically unusable now. I thought it might have been because of the nougat update. But now I think it is a hardware failure. For what it's worth, I hear noise when shaking it.
My screen is cracked and phone has been through hell yet touch still functions GPS is fine and camera is great......go figure lol

I believe the noise you're hearing could be the fingerprint sensor moving around, I too hear a noise when shaking the phone but if I hold my finger on the sensor it stops.

My LG G5's main camera also has focusing issues and I've also noticed that the camera rattles when I shake the phone (with my finger on the fingerprint sensor).
had same issue.. nothing seemed to work. Had to get rid of the phone and get new one cuz there was no support available in my country.
Downgrade is possible?
I also have the same issue.
The problem was disappeared after upgrading the Android to Nougat.
I did a factory reset, but no changes happened.
I believe that it is a bug since there are many people experienced this problem (both here and in the other forums).
Unfortunately, I bought my phone from another country than I live now and LG does not support the phone for the overseas customers!
Is there any way to downgrade the Android to 6? It may solve the problem.
I have the same problem. When I keep down the normal working focus. Engineering menu test Ois Showed that there was a problem. A problem with optical stabilization of the camera.

Same problem here...focus works when i keep phone in horizontal plane....
In ois test , Gyro failed.
I ordered new camera module from ebay...i hope it will solve the problem
And how to know how to buy this camera is original or not?
Maybe this camera's focus works normally, but the bad picture sensor is bad
Mine is doing this and has been for a little while now and it's not the android version because I just upgraded to 7.0 seeing if it would help and mine does rattle and no it's not the finger sensor and it doesn't matter which way I hold my phone or what I do it's blurry! I use to live this phone and I still would if it wasn't for this!
I used to have this focus problem, it is hardware issue. I solved this problem by buying camera replacement from AliExpress. It cost around 10$-12$. After replacement it seem to work normal again and picture quality seem to be a little better compare to my friend g5. Note that my LG is on Android 7

I ordered from Aliexpress too, I bought two cameras just in case one of them is malfunctioning. Both have the same issue and now I'm not sure if that's really a hardware problem. Many people say it happened after upgrade to Android 7.0. Are both of my new cameras faulty or perhaps it's software/dirty lens?

LG G5 camera wont focus
I just got an LG G5 ,, i love it , great phone!
I noticed the main camera wouldn't focus sometimes .
It seemed to get worse after a few days .
I came to the post here and read most of the thread.
Hardware / Software ??
Not sure ,, but i tried something ...
If you move the Zoom finger touch scroll ,
at one point it will switch from the main camera to the wide angle camera .
I did this kind of fast until it switched back and fourth a few times .
It seemed to start focusing again .
who knows if it will keep focusing .
Not sure if this random technique will work for you.
good luck everyone ,,
i hope there will be a sure fix sometime because this is really a unique and great phone

Clicking/rattling sound from back camera lens

Hi all. I just want to be sure that my 'problem' is not a hardware issue. I bought Honor View 10 five days ago and from day one I can hear some clicking or rattling noise when I tapp the top back side of my phone or when I put it on the bed for example (nothing to hear when I shake the phone). Sounds like something is loose near the back camera or in that top back area around the camera (maybe I'm wrong). When I tapp it near the middle or the bottom of back cover, everything is tight and without that sound.
I've read on other forums that this issue is common and that sound is from camera auto focus, lenses etc, maybe vibration motors or power and volume button. But I just wanted to see if anyone else has this 'problem'. And if this is not common, what do you think I should do? And, just to clarify, everything is working without any problems, just that annoying sound.
I get the same from my V10 here.
I guess we will have more people with it...
Nope. nothing like that in mine.
I checked the other one in shop and does the same but am not sure if it's only related with certain badge...camera seems to be fine but in instagram it just won't focus. ANyone with the issue?

maybe try getting it replaced.
The camera has optical image stabilisation, that's what the rattling is from, turn the camera on and do the same again and there will be no more rattling.

my honor view 10 also has that little noise when hit by the part of the camera, is normal as I see no ??
Yup. Same with my view 10. The top part made a lil noise when you tap it but it's normal. I heard the same thing on other phones before too.
Yup, I hear the clicking sound on my Honor View 10 when I tap near on the back. I had the same "issue" on my P10 Lite, but everything works fine, so there's no reason to fear.
Hey, nothing to worry about. It's not any issue at all or any kind of manufacturing defect. The sound comes because of camera and its lens function. You can observe such sound in other smartphones too especially when you open camera app and close it or capture something. It's more audible on DSLR cameras whereas smartphone camera it's less. So don't get bothered about sound and enjoy capturing beautiful photos with your Honor View 10.
I have this in my aswell, my guess is either the camera as some of you mention, OR it could be the vibrator thingy i guess..
I have it too. I tried to press the volume button and tap the back like that, but sill had the noise. Later I opend the camera app, zoomed and tapped the back like that. It had a different sound. It has to do something with the zoom function, because of the lenses. I think it's normal. The lenses have to move, that's the optical zoom.

Hua Wei P20 Mate Pro blurry image issues + How to disable screenshot?

Hi all, I noticed that whenever I use the wide angle mode (0.6x zoom) the image will turn out blurry on the left side of the image. When I am using non-wide angle (1x zoom) it appears fine.. Is there something wrong with my phone? I have circled the blurry area in red .
Here are the images:
photos.app.goo.gl/7Jkan4W8KBE7GUST8
Also, any1 knows how to disable the irritating screenshot feature using Power + Vol down?
Thanks !!
I have the same problem but it ruins the videos also. Everything seems like you have a strong "beautification" effect on even though all effects and AI are switched off. Really annoying as everyone else keeps saying how amazing the cameras are. Well I've also watched footages on YT and have to say and I am not amazed by them at all. Really disappointed with the camera.
Now I'm trying to find a solution but I might just ask for an exchange.
