[Q] Unfortunately, Clock has stopped - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi - I see other people have had this problem, but typically on rooted/modded devices
Every time I set an alarm in the clock app, it errors out and pops up "Unfortunately Clock has stopped". This sometimes happens out of the blue too. I tried clearing the cache, etc, but didn't help.
I used to use Alarm+ for an alarm clock, but on this phone it just doesn't ring the alarm!
Somebody help me, I'm going to oversleep every day now!

Possible easy solution to "unfortunately clock has stopped"

I just called Verizon Wireless tech support back. The guy had seen this problem once before and found a fix for it. I haven't seen this fix posted on any website, but it worked immediately. Please let me know if this works for you
Go to Settings--Date and Time--Select Date Format, and then choose a date format. Once I picked 'regional' the clock worked without the error "unfortunately, clock has stopped"
Before I tried clearing cache and doing a factory reset You don't have to do this if this "choose date format" works. Please comment and let me know if this helped you. I'm curious if this will work across the board. Maybe even for phones other than Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm stoked!

Alarms are not working after upgrade on Asia XDA2 ROM

I started oversleeping and missing the morning bus ever since upgrading to the new ROM. All thanks to my overpriced alarm clock deciding not to work anymore... My boss thinks the excuse is rather lame...
Anyone seen similar effect? Basically an alarm set to go at 7AM will not go off at all. When I eventually wake up and power on the XDA2 the alarm will go off right there & then... Any way to get back to the functional alarm clock? Thanks
This is a well-known problem, and is due to the notification
database filling up with all sorts of cruft.
Fortunately, the work-around is both simple and free - visit
http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
and download both "Check Notifications" and "Notifcation
Clear Fix." Bung them on your XDA and say goodbye to the
problem.
Cheers,
Dave
Thanks for the recommendation. I have the software you mention. Clearnotifications only shows me 26 enties. Must be something else. I'll keep looking.
Wakeup Tweak
I had the same problem even with the original ROM. I thought the ROM update would fix it. Obviously not. So as I did with the original ROM, I used Wakeup Tweak and it fixed the problem.
Thanks guys, I'v also got the same problem, but mine use to work 100% untill recently, it must have been somthing I've installed but I have installed so much over the weekend now Monday come and I'm just ZZZzzzzz'ing.... LOL no Alarm any more... I will try and two methods mentioned...
Thanks Guys...
Hi Guys, I tried all the recomendations with no luck
The first one only found about 42 Events and cleared it to about 15, which was good.
I could not find the second one at all, the link seems to be down. I tried to do a search on google but it came up with many results and I've noticed that there is quite a few Tweek programs out and not sure what one to get... Any idea????
I just tested the Wakeup Tweak link and it's online. Try it again.

What has happened to my Hero?

Hi everybody. I am new to this forum.
I have had my Hero for 2 weeks now, and I have been loving it.
Today though something really crappy happened. When pressing the "home" button is was suddenly prompted with the options: "Complete the action using 1. Home 2. ThoughFLO". Usually I would just go directly to the "frontpage" without being asked for options.
I pressed "Home" and then all of the sudden my Hero interface is GONE and in stead I have something that looks like the Magic interface. In stead of 7 scenes I now only have 3 scenes and none of them carry any of the icons of widgets that I used to have.
When trying to press the TouchFLO option I get the following error: "The application TouchFLO (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Trying again does not work. And I have tried to restart the phone numerous times. Also the "People" app is malfunctioning now: "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".
I still have the same apps and widgets and the settings looks exactly like it used to.
Does anybody know what is going on and how I can fix this?
Yes - the Hero lets you choose between the Android interface and Sense UI. There are two possibilities:
1) Hit the home button again, click the check box at the bottom to make the next selection the default, and choose Touch Flo. Depending on the configuration, you might not have had this possibility.
2) Go to settings and manage applications. Scroll to "Home" and select it. Choose to clear the defaults and the next time you hit the HOme button you should get the choice for Home or Touch Flo again. Make Touch Flo the default.
Thanks a lot - that solved the problem with the UI!
I still have the problem with "Persons" though. I tried to clear data on that one as well, but still hasnt helped. Any ideas?
Ditto
This happened to me as well and I'm glad it did! Although I didn't think it was particularly slow or laggy to begin with I did notice a tremendous boost in speed when Touchflow was disabled and I haven't bothered to re-enable it yet.
has this issue of the People app giving thie error been resolved? It's just happened to me as well. I can't open the app without the error message popping up and clogng the app.

android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly problem

Hi all, hoping you can help with a problem I'm having.
Basically, my Hero was fine, working perfectly, until I cleverly managed to lock myself out of it by getting the security swipe wrong too many times.
Long story short, I did a factory reset (had only got the phone that day so didn't seem like a big deal to lose anything).
I rebooted it, contacts came back down through google, everything fine. Then I started getting this message when connecting contacts to facebook or viewing the 'my contact card'.
android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly problem, force close
If I log out of facebook then I don't get the problem, but I'd like the facebook functionality. When I'm logged into facebook some contacts display facebook info, some don't.
My first thought was a dodgy contact, but all the contacts are the same as the first time I sync'd with google, so nothing should be wrong there I hope.
Anyway, any ideas?
Same problem
Hello,
I am having the same problem. I also posted a question regarding this problem yesterday in the forum but up until now I have received any answers. I also send an email to HTC support but haven't heard from them yet. I suggest you do the same, this way they can't say that this is a one time problem ;-)
I was about to do a factory reset, but now I am afraid that this isn't going to solve my problem. My phone has been working without any problems for 2 weeks with a lot of facebook people synchronised to my contacts. I think that 1of the facebook contacts has some illegal character is its name or description and thus giving this error.
Spoke to soon. This is the reply from HTC. But it isn't that helpfull I am afraid ;-(
Dear HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
Thank you for your feedback, please try to do a hard reset of your phone to see if that solves the problem. You can do this by:
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the HOME and BACK buttons, and then briefly press the END CALL/POWER button. The reset process will start after a few seconds.
2. Wait for the phone to finish the reset process and then press MENU.
If this does not solve the problem there should be a ROM update for the Hero coming out soon which could contain a fix for the problem. Try the hard reset if it doesn’t work keep an eye on htc.com for the ROM upgrade for the Hero.
If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site. Please go to: http://www.htc.com/www/support.aspx

How bizarre!
Tried it now and no problem, fantastic!
From one of those links....
"Lots of people getting it - seems like it could be a Facebook api change if you look at that thread."
I guess with the hero being SO connected with the web, a lot more than just the phone can break things. Ah well.
Thanks deeren.

i am having the same problem with android.process.acore and i have try everything in the phone and nothing seems to work. please if anyone knows how to fix write back. thanks.
Had this start happening to me today, immediately after I installed three updates from the market, Pure Messenger Widget, Titanium Backup and Fat Secrets. I don't think it was the latter two, I think it was Pure Messenger Widget. It was difficult to get that one to install, it took ages, and then it interferred with the download of the other two. Once I was through with the market the force closes started. Managed to shut the phone down but they came back, until I uninstalled Pure Messenger Widget. A few more reboots and it seems to be back to normal. I realize this is anecdotal, and I have no development experience so I have no logic to draw on here other than my own experience.

Suddenly today my phone will not boot up, giving me the "the process android.acore has stopped ..." message. There are lots of forum threads suggesting possible causes and how to fix them, but none address the issue of when you can't switch on the device at all. I'm in an endless cycle of "force quit" and "the process android.acore has stopped". I'm at the point of having to factory reset, unless anyone can suggest anything please ...?

Unfortunately I think a factory reset is your only option at this point. That's what I had to do when my phone was doing the same thing. Hopefully you have a recent backup to fall back on, however, be careful - do not restore any system data, that's where the problem lies.
Many thanks. I've performed a factory reset and successfully restored a Sprite backup made five days ago. But to my great disappointment I find that none of my programs have been included. Is this normal? All other data, settings, etc have restored fine, just no programs. I can of course reinstall them one by one since my market data is saved in the cloud, but is that normal with a Streak backup, that programs are not included?
Have no idea why your programs weren't backed up, sorry. I use Titanium Backup Pro, so my backups are complete.

Make sure you've backed up everything you want backed up and do a factory reset - it seems to be the only way to fix this. If that doesn't fix it, then try flashing a custom ROM, I know that will work - that's how I ended up delving into the custom ROM world
I have had the same problem today and just finished doing a HARD factory reset with samsung...DOESN'T work...still get the error message and will not operate. Finally called AT&T warranty department and they are sending out yet ANOTHER phone..this will be our 3rd refurbished phone.
If anyone comes up with a solution please let me know. I am going to play around for the next couple of days and see what I can come up with....
Thanks
Ed & Donna aka gramme
Like I said, they'd no solution other than flashing a new rom, be it stock or custom. I choose custom and learned I'd never depend on AT&T or Samsung again.

Thanks, I used odin2oneclick and it put android 2.1 update 1 on the phone. Then I didn't have a clue how to get android 2.2 on the phone so I called samsung and they walked me through using kies mini. Now working and have it rooted once again.
Thanks again

[Q] Gallery Issue

This is a double post, sorry. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to post...
I'm running Kaosfroyo v38 with CFS 2.6.29 kernel. I'm using LauncherPro. Most things are going well (battery is still a little iffy?!?). Battery dropped today to 70% in 2 hours...moderate use.
My problem right now is with the cooliris gallery. Every few minutes, I get the message that Gallery has stopped unexpectedly. I tell it to Force Close...but inevitably, it comes back. The camera is working fine...unless I try to go to the gallery...stopped unexpectedly message again. I have also tried going to Manage Applications and Force Closing. It seems to not be running. I have cleared data, cache and defaults.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it...but the timing is aligned. Today, I tried to add a Picture Frame widget to a home screen. I was not able to add it. My phone went funky for a minute, then went about it's business...only to start giving me the unexpected message a little later.
erm...help?

[Q] Alarm Clock goes off for one second, then stops

Hello everyone
My phone appears to have some quite bizarre problem. It's to do with the alarm clock. Regardless of what time I set it, it plays maybe a second of the song I told it to play and then turns off. Naturally, that's not nearly enough to wake me up, so I sleep through that. That's the basic problem.
I then decided to see if the problem persists if I am fully awake and I set the alarm to a minute from now. Lo and behold, it worked flawlessly. Same song and everything.
Another test was had. I thought that maybe the alarm clock crashes and needs to recover to properly work. So I set a second alarm. One was set for 6.59am, the next for 7.00am. The idea was that it would crash at 6.59 and would work properly at 7. That worked for one day.
Today, the alarm clock stopped twice after a second.
So obviously, something is wrong here. I have no idea what is going on and I have no idea how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. I've now cleared all alarm data and re-set the alarm. But I would really like to know that I will actually wake up when I should.
Thank you for your help.
Have you tried a different song? Is the song on the internal memory or on a microsd? What ROM?
I'm running Android Version 4.1.2, the song is on the memory card in the directory \music.
I have tried a different song, to no avail. And it does sometimes work with the one song I'm using.
Try copying the song to the internal memory, also try resetting the Clock's data from System Settings > Application > Application Manager, find the clock there and delete its data.

How can I copy a file to internal memory? I have never had to do this, so I'm sorry if I'm sounding a bit daft.
Well, when you connect your phone to your PC (assuming you have windows) you'll see Phone Memory and SD Card, put your song in the Phone Memory
I'm sorry to be such a bother, but I don't see it. All I see is this: http://i.imgur.com/G7iTE4j.jpg
Would I maybe need root access?
That's the phone memory, so it's already as I suggested. I'm sorry, I have no more ideas. Maybe see if other music formats work better. I'm assuming you use mp3? Try wav. It should work with any supported format though, this isn't a solution as much as it is a workaround. I'm sorry I can't help more, hope you find a way, good luck.
I have indeed been using an MP3-file. And I've cleared all the memory, re-set the alarms and it happened again today. One second of alarm, then silence.
I'll try do a WAV now. I have my doubts that it will work, seeing as it does work with an MP3 occasionally, but it's worth a shot.
Also, don't worry. You've been a really great help. I greatly appreciate it. So: Thank you for all the help, even if it didn't work. While you've not found the one way that works, you've found a number that didn't. And that gives us something to work on.
Gentlemen, I have fixed it. Here's what I did: I got Tasker and I followed a handy guide to make a badass alarmclock: Have a Guide!
But because I'm too lazy to reset my alarm every day, I made multiple profiles. One - in my case - was for Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Then I added a second condition, adding 7am as the time. Tuesday and Thursday, did the same, but set the time to 8am.
It's a bit more difficult than just setting a regular alarm, but you're not running the risk of the alarm failing.
I'm having this problem too with the alarm, and i'm being looking for answers as well...
One thing new, I found that the alarm problem stop if I disable the lock-screen.
I try for some days, and none of the alarms stopped.
Today I enable the stock lock-screen and my first alarm stop - just work for 1 second... like I thought.
I try something new now, enable the lock-screen but not in the simplest finger mode, I configured it to swipe code.
Let's see what happens.
I'll be back with feedback.
BTW, I'm with a Samsung Galaxy SII
PMoto
Any progress made? I have the same problem on my galaxy note. Havent really tried to fix it, but it looks like the same problem. Can't remember when it started. But when the alarm goes of, it plays my selected alarm for under a second, and then goes silent.
Well, yes and no.
I mean, I could not find a reason for this neither was able to get an answer...
But I get a workaround, you need to disable the stock lock-screen.
You will have the alarm work well with no issues if you disable it. You can use any other lock-screen, like "Go Locker", "C Locker", "Widget Locker", and so on, except the stock one.
Try and feedback.
I think this is an Android JB bug...
PMoto
Will try your workaround. Strange thing here is that it works fine when I test it by setting the alarm 1 minute into the future and lock the phone. Goes off and works like it's supposed to. But every morning, everything else is the same, just set the alarm a few hours ahead instead of a minute, it will stop after half a sec. Deep sleep state or something (on the phone that is)? I don't know how it works.
please,
the alarm does not work with the phone off?

Yes, that's my problem too. If you set 2 alarms in the morning with just 1 or 2 minutes break, the second one always ring... eheheh...
That - I don't know why - is the NORMAL BUG behavior.
Anyway, I don't have that bug now, just stop using the stock lockscreen. With me works with all the others...

Never tested that...
Turning off the lock screen did fix it. Looked at the lockers you suggested, but go locker would only work with go launcher, which is not what I use. You can buy go locker pro, and it will work with any launcher, but I didnt really want to pay for a lock screen. C locker is free but looked a bit unfinished. Also both c locker and widget locker has comments saying just pressing the home button will bypass the lock screen all together. And widget locker is not free either. Will see if I can find one I like
However I do think it's strange if this is a known problem or bug, that not more people are reporting this. I would think the alarm is something people use and rely on.
I'm not sure that Go Locker only work with Go Launcher...
There is an option to disable the home button from disabling the lock... in all of them. My Galaxy S2 have a fisical Home button and it's disable, don't bypass the locker.
C Locker have a new version...
I know this problem in several phones, including Sony or Assus Padfone. So, it must be Android related...
Anyway, too many rom's, lock screens and alarm app would change this, so not everyone have the issue.
PMoto.
The go locker did work, but I could not configure it. It said to activate go locker fully, please install go launcher, when I tried to run the configuration. Mite be me doing something wrong, but I didn't bother to investigate further. Anyway, I found another work-around. There is something in the android alarm clock app called smart alarm. If you activate this, the regular alarm will work properly. The smart alarm plays a pleasant ambiant noise track before the regular alarm kicks in. I have it set to go off 3 miniutes before the regular alarm. So the smart alarm kind of wakes the phone, so the regular alarm will work
Huummm. I never saw that...
I'm curious. And, yes, that could do the trick.
I'll try out.
