[Q] How to get ROM image from Android Rockchip RK3066 device? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an rooted Android (4.4.2 Ugoos UG802 mini PC) device, mini PC (without screen or buttons) with Rockchip RK3066.
I was trying to create an image of its ROM using ROM manager (on Google Play), but when I tried to backup current ROM, it turned off and then said 'No command' with resting android.
MiniPC doesn't have volume buttons so I was unable to go through this problem.
After that, I tried romdump using tutorial, but although I have many files now, (f.e. boot.img or system.tar) I do not clearly understand what should I do with all those files. My intention is to get update.img which I can flash to other device.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S.: I would like to add some links, but I cannot do that.

Need advise on how to proceed

Hello there, I have a Multilaser M8 and it has a ROCKCHIP 3066 processor. I've already lost one M8 because of a faulty firmware available on their website. It apparently has no recovery mode as I couldn't manage to get it to boot, the only thing that it shows is the android logo with a exclamation mark. I know that there's a way to get past this window on some devices, but mine doesn't have the + and - volume buttons and I've tried touching the window on the corners and pressing the available buttons with different combinations but none of them worked. I've also spent a lot of time searching for something on Google, but found only frustrated people who where also a victim from that firmware. As my hands itch to change something on my tablet, I had to do something to make it safe as I have no methods of recovering my device if I manage to brick it. So, I managed to dump my rom using the romdump method wich consists in dumping the rom using the terminal emulator. The files that I've got from this dumping are: boot.img, checksum.md5, config.gz, recovery.img, system.info.gz and system.tar. The firmware available on the website is a .img file that must be flashed using RkBatchTool. So, what I want to know Is if with those files I can manage to restore my system so I'll have no worries if I get bootlops while trying to mod my tablet. The first thing that I would like to do is to manually install CWM, but I believe that it's very risky and I must be sure that I'll have a backup from the system to rely on. I'm sorry about my English and thanks in advance!
Update: I've successfully installed CWM on this device and I'm able to use it with my usb keyboard.

[Q] ORION TAB-700QC firmware needed (atm7029 cpu)

Sal all,
I cannot find firmware for this tablet. It's a 7inch, dual camera, atm7029 quad core cpu, that doesn't start, but i can write firmware with Actions Pad Product Tool.
The only available firmwares for this type of cpu (atm7029) i was able to find, were from Ainol tablets, but these are not good.(only lights start 1sec)
Can someone help ?
10x in advance !
Hi! There is a similar device firmware from (Russian): (yadi.sk/d/Wku6HWTxKkaKa)
But WiFi and camera other.
System image
Here is the image of the system partition. Dumped with ADB from a working tablet. (512MB)
(mediafire.com/download/roc8870rirvt3hw/actc_system.img)
And this is the image of the recovery partition: (48MB)
(mediafire.com/download/fd30kaio8xb490j/acta_recovery.img)
If you want to see what's inside the images, mount the image in Linux, or use Linux Reader if you're using Windows.
How to use the actc_system.img and acta_recovery.img
Hi, I'm an android newbie needing help. I found this thread while searching for how to deal with a bootlooping Orion TAB-700qc tablet belonging to a friend.
Apparently my friend tried to update the tablet with the wrong update (I'm not really sure what he did), but it went into a bootloop -- it will not get past the "android" screen. I found how to go into the Recovery menu but nothing there would fix the problem. I have downloaded the actc_system.img and acta_recovery.img discussed in this thread, but I need step-by-step instructions for how to use them to get the tablet working again.
Can someone please direct me to instructions that I as a newbie will understand? I have worked a lot with pc's but I have almost no experience with androids.
Thanks,
cmNhu

Unbrick amlogic tablets
Hello stoio
I have almost the same Tablet. It's a Prestigio PMP5580C, for me it is labeld as Intenso Tab 814, but they are completely the same. I have tried to find the u-boot.bin in the stock firmware, but I didn't sucess yet. I've downloaded several tools which allows me to make my 16 GB MicroSD card recognized as a 512 MB SD card, there I have to put the files on it to unbrick my tablet, it's amlogic (like my username) (someone told me that this is the chipset). It has a TOSHIBA TC58TEG6DCJTA00 NAND flash chip of 8 GB capazity. I also need help by getting my tablet unbricked.
In the future Inwant to learn with this amlogic based tablet how to create custom ROM's, recoveries and custom boot splash screens.
Thanks for any help, I reall appreciate your help,
Please note that I'm from Germany and my English is not good as it should used to be, but I have a dictionary (as a normal book) where I can get good communication with you. I like the idea of using english only.
Every Image (.img) were made with the dd command, I need to look inside in the images and open the content, I used a hex editor and tried to strip off the 2k of data, but I can't success. I'm using this tutorial:
I'm using this hex editor under linux: Okteta
I don't know how to delete the 2k of data. I need to know what content the partitions have to unbrick my amlogic based tablet, cause I'm seeing still the white android robot, and the charging battery or charged plugin picture, but this tablet doesn't have a bootloader or recovery so I'm out of ideas, the only way for me is to use a microsd card like an live cd to automatically let this tablet flash stock firmware, but where is it? Please help me out, I meight be wrong, it's possible that different repairing ways exist, too.

[Q&A] M8/S/+ S8xx Chipset Amlogic Based Devices

This is Directly related to the Mseries boxes.
The M8s+ device inperticular but its widely cloned and comes under many names.
MXIII, M8, M8s, M8s Plus etc. The chipset and storage are the important factors here.
Amlogic S8xx series devices, like the S802, S812 etc.
This will be used for Q/A
Troubbleshooting
and helping direct traffic to the right devices.
Freaktab.com has the Android Tv box section laid out well compared to Xda.
The Android phone section on XDA is perfect and im hoping we can get the Tv boxes organized and supported more!
To enter the recovery stock or not, there are multiple methods.
Using a toothpick and pushing the reset button inside the AV port ( Harder/nonrooted )
1.) At the bottom of the AV jack hole is the reset button.
Using a tooth pick hold this button in. You know you have pressed it if you feel the click.
2.) Now plug in the power cord.
3.) While holding the reset button down, wait until you see the logo and you can then release the reset button.
done: The recovery menu should now be shown and the device should update.
ALT For rooted devices:
1.) Install romtoolbox lite and Give romtoolbox superuser permissions
2.) Use the rebooter function inside the app to enter recovery mode. (easier)
Rooted how to Install Custom Recovery or Return to Stock Recovery:
To install the custom recovery I used [Root] Rashr - Flashingtool app to install the custom TWRP recovery, this also can be used to install the image files like boot.img or return to stock recovery.img
Notes:
The boot img needs to match the rom version you are running.
IE: 4.0 needs the 4.0 boot.img. 5.0 needs the matching 5.0
in most cases the device will not boot or bootloop when using mismatched images. in some cases you can use the LATEST image and run older software behind it. Furthermore, if you choose to not listen your support will be to listen and try it this way first.
The recovery images should be used the same way, ive attatched the links on my main page for convienece.
The manufactures and sources post the rom and the img together in a combined zip, ive broken them apart to reduce size and to avoid loosing your custom recovery evey time you flash a rom! This makes updates etc sooo much easier!
Would you know if you're able to flash the m8s+ rom on an ACEMAX M8S Amlogic S812 Quad Core box? From what I can see they have the same hardware specs however the + is a lollipop rom?!
Thanks in advance. I realise this says to only post 'answers' but your first post says this will be the Q&A section...

Need help with Tablet PC (Ainol Numy 3G P97) system flash and custom ROM installation

Hi everyone,
A couple of days I posted in XDA Assist and was asked to seek help here. Therefore, I'm posting my original post here, along with some updates at the end.
Original Post:
#####################
I've got a reasonably unknown Tablet PC.. Here are the specs and miscellaneous information;
Name: Ainol Numy 3G P97
Internal Memory: 16GB
RAM: 1GB
GPU: Mali-400 MP
SoC: MediaTek MT8382 ARM Cortex A7 @ 1.3Ghz (Quad Core)
OS: Android Jellybean 4.2.2 (I'm pretty sure it's a Custom ROM)
Kernel Version: 3.4.5
Build Number: Numy_3G_P97_V1_2014090215
Custom Build Version: 1.19_20140822
Root Access: No (I never tried to root the device, never had a reason to do so)
I've been searching around for ways to upgrade the OS from Jellybean to Lollipop or higher. I've searched extensively within XDA Developers' various forums, but there doesn't seem to be any post in relation with my device.
I took to the internet and found some websites offering Flash Tools, Firmware (nothing above KitKat, or so it seems) and Android Studio. I've tried (in vain) to go through some tutorials on YouTube, but haven't come across anyone who's done anything with this particular device.
However, I have a rough idea rattling around in my head of what needs to be done, but I just need guidance from the Developers here to tell me how to get about doing it.
I have the following software downloaded;
1. MediaTek USB Drivers and Flash tools
2. SP Flash Tool v5.1620
3. Official Android Jellybean 4.2.2 System Image for the device
4. Android Lollipop 5.0 System Image (the site I downloaded it from says the Firmware is for a different tablet pc, but with the same specs as my device)
5. Android Studio (latest version, direct download from Google) - I read in some sites that Android Studio would help a lot to install a Custom ROM into any Android device, hence the download.
I'd greatly appreciate anyone helping me out in this endeavor. I'd like to install Lollipop (at least) on my Tablet PC, in order to gain some functionality as well as improved performance (hopefully!), as the current Jellybean OS is terribly laggy. I've seen other Tablet PC's with lesser specs running Lollipop smoothly, so I'm hopeful that there might be a silver lining to an otherwise very dark and sinister looking thunderstorm.

End Post
Updates:
While waiting, I've tried a few things. I downloaded the following;
1. Android SDK Tools with Platform Tools
2. Android Lollipop system images x 2 (.img file format) (similar specs to my Tablet PC)
3. Android Lollipop system image x 1 (.zip file format) (similar specs to my Tablet PC)
4. Android KitKat system image x 1 (supposedly the original and official KitKat OS for my Tablet PC)
5. Kingo Root app (Windows version)
Here's what I tried:
I tried using ADB to sideload a Lollipop system image (.zip file format) through a custom recovery already installed on my Tablet PC. Each time I tried, the installation would just stop with "Installation aborted". No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work.
Next, I tried to "update" the current OS (Jellybean 4.2.2) to KitKat using the "official update" I found on the net, for my Tablet PC. I used SP Flash Tools to try and load the file, but that didn't pan out, as there was something corrupted in the Scatter file. Each time I tried to load the Scatter file, I'd get the error message that it was corrupted. Didn't know what else to do.
Following that, I read some articles where rooting the device in question was suggested, so I searched around for a bit, found the Kingo Root app, used it and rooted my device. Then, I tried using ADB again, this time using a more traditional method of custom ROM installation. But once I got to the Fastboot commands, I couldn't get any further. My device did boot up in Fastboot mode, but I got lost after that.
As of yet, my device is still running Jellybean 4.2.2. I've refurbished it by doing a master reset, but I'd really like to get Lollipop in, if it's possible. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Serious help needed please!
I really need help, people, on this issue! Isn't there some kind soul who will respond??
