I really love these AOSP KitKat roms but on every rom I get these crazy battery killing wakelocks. Everytime I manage to somehow block one wakelock, then after a while another appears.
I have tried like every way to block the wakelocks: Amplify, built-in wakelock blockers, Disable Services app etc but I always end up with new wakelock, its an endless war against these. Most of the wakelocks come from Google Play Services and I cant really live without Play Store so completely removing gapps is not an option for me. Im also using Xposed with Greenify on boost mode.
I can bring up some screenshots when the next wakelock makes its appearance, Im currently running on L-Droid v4.0 rom
These wakelocks make me miss my old Windows Phone, I cant really rely on my phone when it can suddenly run out of battery in my pocket anytime :crying:
Any tips and tricks on dealing with the wakelocks? Any help is appreciated at this point!
Here we go again, ffs.
....and BBS screenshot
Im now trying to get rid of this "mdm_hsic_pm0" wakelock by disabling fast dormancy with an app.
Most likely this wont solve a sh*t but hey, nothing is lost by trying right?
After adding this to the build.prop I yet havent witnessed that batterykilling wakelock which I mentioned in the last post. Will continue testing to see if it occurs again.
So as you can already guess: The wakelock appeared again.
I decided to give up on L-Droid rom and now Im switching over to LiquidSmooth's 3.2 milestone build, lets see how it happens with this rom too...
Maybe you should try different gapps package. Use Pico or nano version, and you could check different build dates. I'm not using KitKat anymore but remember that one of them with screwed up by Google service framework caused Wakelocks.

I have tried several different gapps I have gotten my hands on. Now Im using these latest Liquid KitKat gapps directly from their site and Im getting serious battery drain by wakelock called systemupdateservice so another gapps related wakelock. Even when the systemupdateservice is disabled in Disable Service app, it still continues to keep my phone awake 90-100% of the time. This is insane
When I disable the gapps with App Quarantine on this rom the battery life becomes normal, not a single wakelock is killing it.
Still it sucks to enable gapps, login back to my google account just to update my apps and then I have to disable them again.
Don't know is it present in your rom but in cyanogenmod you can disable certain app Wakelocks in privacy - advanced settings. You need to choose app which wake your device ie Google service and disable one of the Wakelock. There will be an information how many of them appears.

Been there done that, both roms had this feature built-in. Didnt solve anything, same wakelocks still remain.

may be many apps running in the background?
wakelocks
My device is rooted and using root access almost all the bloatware has been frozen and I have very limited apps. I didn't have a wakelock problem before rooting but now my cpu wakes up at regular intervals of time and sometimes its on all the time ( even when the screen is off).
The apps that I have on my phone are
Opera mini
Temple run
Whatsapp
Viber
Superuser
Default Samsung browser
S memo
S planner
Gmail
music player ( default )
Calculator
Video player

I just found out that there is a free version of BetterBatteryStats for xda members. downloaded and installed it.am following the instructions . . . but do any of you know how to interpret the observations?
hi dude,
if you have various system or user apps wakelocks , first do a monitoring it with your favorite battery monitor and analysis tool to details.
you can use traditional battery savers (i didn't recommend)
I do use greenify (paid app, but very good - the "engine" is different, doesn't kill or freeze, but hibernate system (need root) or users apps.
increase my battery and decrease unnecessary wakelocks ...

wakelocks
By looking at the task manager you can deduce that I have minimal number of applications running in the background and that all the bloatware has either been frozen removed of greenified.
and by looking at the battery graph you can conclude that I have wakelocks as the cpu doesn't go into deep sleep even when the screen is off

hi
there was in you files, eg.
gtalk GTALK_ASYNC_CONN_com.google.android.gsf.gtalkservice.AndroidEndpoint
gmail com.google.android.gm.Gmail
high durations
look in settings the sync settings ... maybe adjust the sync ...
there was long wakelock time durations eg m_duration=74554
others wakes
m_name=DropboxCpuOnlyWakeLock, m_duration=48767
causes ... sync? look the dropbox settings
m_name=PhoneWindowManager.Broadcast WakeLock, m_duration=57822
localization apps related?
i did read for this and guys reported problems in volume buttom or others ... pressing or bump problems ... or (its hard to believe lol) leather cases that press buttons
Common tips - reference http://better.asksven.org/bbs-how-to/
"Following tips can help you reducing some causes of awake:
Turn your GPS off when not required to avoid apps using that expensive location source
When you are finished using an app close it with the "back" button. This will terminate it and avoid background management
Don't use any auto killer apps. If there are apps you don't want to be started or cached freeze them or configure their auto-start properly
Don't use and power saving tools like Juice Defender or Green Power: most apps do not behave properly when they can't use the data connection and will generate overhead by trying
If you don't need Wifi turn it off: in some cases Wifi is known to cause wakeups and an overhead in e.g. location services"
I recommend you try freeze these apps or greenify (my personal choice) ... or change the sync settings ... or uninstall apps
If this troubleshooting does not work ...
I do recommend install a latest firmware (your favorite ROM stock stock pre rooted or custom) ... wipe format etc ... etc ... etc
Do a backup user apps and data ... etc ...
best regards

I have one gmail account and sync is on for like 10 mins a day.
I do have a dropbox account but I haven't actually logged into the app using my phone.
I don't use a case or any other protection for my phone home and the volume buttons are seldom pressed.
gps is switched off almost all the time but the other two options in location setting are on.
I always use packet data.
I have also greenified all third party applications except whatsapp and all the stock apps that I don't use have been frozen.
thanks for helping!
( I get a standby time of around 17-20 hours with a minimum on screen time of 5 hours . stock rom and kernel)

Hello there,
I'm facing a strange wake lock issue with Google+. It's draining my battery really fast ! Using BBS, I can see a 1h40 wake partial lock associed to "fingerprint_scanner_static" module for the past day. It's part of Google+.
Using Disable service app, I recently desactivated Google+ "FingerprintScannerIntentService" service, but "fingerprint_scanner_static" wake lock is still there. Maybe this one is related to another service, but I don't know which one to desactivate to avoid battery drain issue.
Has someone an idea to solve my battery drain issue ? I already tried to uninstall/reinstall app.
I have same problem with this app.
I can solved it.
very simple, you can using Greenify for it. (need xposed.)
when greenify google+, you'll see this text: "state always ignored in hibernation."
launch menu, cancel the ignored.
Delete
No Google+ installed
Hello!
Starting some days ago, fingerprint_scanner_static drains my battery in a 6 or 7 hours even if I don't use the phone at all. And I don't have Google+ installed
Using DisableService app, I disabled FingerprintScannerIntentService from Google Play Services. But the problem persists. Any idea on how to solve this?

Same here.
S3 running CM12.1-20150406-UNOFFICIAL-d2att.
Google+ not installed.
FingerprintScannerIntentService frozen using ROM Toolbox.
This kernel wakelock kept my phone awake for 1 hour and 42 minutes today. Single largest kernel wakelock by a long shot. Maybe I should install Google+ so I can Greenify it! Wouldn't that be a weird work-around?
For me, i unistalled this terrible app.
I have google+ app disabled and FingerprintScannerIntentService is disabled with DisableService too, but somedays this wakelock keep my phone awake all time. I haven't found a solution yet

I have the same problem on a Galaxy Note 1. No Google+ and the FingerprintScannerIntentService is disabled.
In my case the wakelock is part of "GoogleServices". Restarting them stops the wakelock. So, no solution, but a workaround.
In case I find a solution, I will post it here.
Ok so for the life of me I cant figure out why my battery is draining so fast its literally draining about 10% an hour if not more. If tried a bunch of different tools to try and monitor it but nothing is really standing out as a main culprit. I recently had my phone replaced and I had them send a new battery just for the heck of it. Also I even tried putting Hyperdrive Roms on my phone and that did not help. So I debating on whether to go back to stock and just root and see what happens again after just removing bloatware.
I tried looking up battery tips but really haven't found anything recently. I only got my phone in May of this year. Any suggestions or links would greatly help I love my phone but cant stand the battery life. I miss my Droid Razr Maxx

Not sure but I think its a Kit Kat issue. I recall having more battery life on JB than on Kitkat with my S4.
There are lots of things you can do.
System Settings
•WiFi - change sleep policy from ALWAYS (staying on) to either "Only when plugged in" or "never"
•Account Sync - under my Google account(s) I only keep CONTACTS and GMAIL checked...the rest unchecked
•Motions, Smart Features, Gestures, Air - Turn ALL of this crap off!
•Animation Scaling- In Developer Options - I use these settings: Window Animation=OFF/ Transition Animation=0.5x/ Animator Duration=0.5x
In-App Settings
•Play Store - In settings, change Auto-Update Apps to Never...you can do this manually from time to time. If not, it'll just always scan.
•App Ops - This can be a little tedious, but go through your apps (especially under Location) and turn location off on whatever you think doesn't need it! You may want to test out each app to be sure it is functioning properly before you move on to the next app. This makes it much easier to go back and enable it again if you see its needed. Most of the Google apps are gonna need it.
Freeze or Uninstall System Apps
•Check out my thread on which system apps you can remove here
***I recommend using NoBloat to make your changes with:good:
Additional apps & Xposed modules to check out
•Greenify - Hands down my favorite battery saving app. If you don't know it, that's why your battery life sucks! Seriously though, GET IT!
•Greenify Donation (Xposed) - Adds several more features, such as allowing system apps to be greenifiable! Also works well with WakeLock Detector
•WakeLock Detector - Helps determine which apps are waking up your phone while its asleep...allows you to prevent future wakeups.
•Gsam Battery Monitor Pro - Not sure if the free version lets you use the monitoring feature or not, but basically it is like a glorified battery usage graph (like in system settings)
•BootManager - Xposed module allowing you to select which apps are able to run in startup. Not sure how it compares with Greenify, but I just use both
•Prevent Running - Also similar to Greenify. I'm in the process of checking this one out, so don't hold me to it being great.

WakeLock detector works great for exactly what you're trying to figure out. Check out the WakeLock guide, it'll show you exactly what it's role is. Once you have it installed, you will sometimes see a scissors icon in Greenify when you have something listed under NOT hibernating or pending...click it! You'll see the option for Greenify to "cut-off" the process chain...this prevents further wakeups from what had specifically started up the process. I highly recommend you take a look at gsam battery monitor (I think that's the name), it will also give you details on which processes are killing your battery.
I am not positive but I think you can disable that security process without any issue. You may want to Google that though.

Short answer...WakeLock only detects, you decide what you need to STOP from there. But there are apps that can utilize WakeLock to detect those battery killers and stop, freeze or remove processes or apps for you...such as Greenify.
Also, I can't stress enough how worth it it is to buy Greenify's experimental features, as it will allow you to get deeper into the whole Greenifying thing!! Hell yes it does:good:

Yes I pretty much have everything that people have suggested including the experimental version of Greenify. I am running Wakelock Detector, GSAM Battery Monitor, Usage Timelines.
However I am still seeing this Security Process running at about 6% and about 82.45 MB. I am not really experiencing any drain when the phone is sleeping.

Can u post a screenshot of gsam's monitor section? Its the part that has the list of usage...looks similar to the battery monitor screen in Android settings.
Ok, here's the thing, after trickling with my P8Lite and installing a custom ROM etc, in order to get XPosed and better battery life, I found, via BBS, that the main wakelock culprit is that, C2DMHandlerThread, which racks up hours and hours of awake time, sometimes even 3, with just a few hundred wakelocks. And after scouring the forums over and over, I've found no answer. Top battery consumers are Whatsapp, and Google services, which includes the account manager, services framework, account manager and play services. All I know is that it's used by a system process that should be dealing with the deprecated C2DM push service. Amplify doesn't know what does it do or if it is safe to limit. Anyone know anything about that wakelock?

On my phone, C2DMHandlerThread is triggered by Telegram. When i receive a message, the wakelock is increased by 15-20 seconds.

Same issue on Mate 9. Tried without Telegram and Whatsapp and same situation

I'm having the same issue on my Huawei P9 with getting the C2DMHandlerThread wakelock thousands of times per day. Whilst other people are reporting really good battery life, I can just about get 4 hours screen on time and wonder if this is the reason.
I rebranded my phone from region C440 to C432. Could this wakelock be related to re-coding the phone to a different software region? Someone earlier in this thread mentioned they had changed the region on their phone and had the same issue .
Research suggests C2DM is an "old" protocol and the wakelock originates from "Android System" so my theory is one of the built in apps - but don't know which - is causing the problem. I've tried all kinds of things including factory reset, enabling and disabling the built in features like software updates, Wifi+ etc., and nothing seems to stop this wakelock.
Any ideas?
Team - I am running the latest version of greenify posted on the playstore. I've followed guides for enabling agressive doze on android 6.0 on my moto x pure (non root) -- including adbing to the device to grant permissions on the app. It seems to be working most of the time. The device seems to go to sleep and i've seen a great increase in battery. However, seemingly randomly i'll notice battery draining fast. When i look at my usage its google play services keeping the device awake 100% of the time. If i reboot the phone, google play services stops doing that and all is well for awhile, till it repeats. I've been unable to find the cause of this. I imagine i'm missing some information that we might need to track this down. thanks in advance!

That may not have anything to do with Greenify unless you have greenified Play Services. If you have, remove it from hibernation.
Usually Play Services will go berserk upon updating itself in the background. What you can try is clear it's data and cache and reboot. If you have TWRP, do it in recovery. If not, do it in Settings>Apps.

Thanks for the info. Here's what i've done:
I removed greenify, performed the actions you suggested and left greenify off for about 12 hours. No issues with google play services and keep awake. I reinstalled greenify and everything was good for a number of hours. Unfortunately the play services keep awake started again about 3.5 hours ago. The phone has a solid 'awake' bar in battery settings and play services is the culprit with 3.5 hours awake. While i dont blame greenify, there's some sort of correlation of events here that I can't explain.

Do you have Xposed? If so, install AppOpsXposed and untick the "Keep Awake" function of Play Services. Another thing you can try is uninstalling the update to the Play Services, reboot and then manually update it and again reboot.
If it is still not arrested, Google is your friend.
Unfortunately I've the same problem on my OnePlus 2 with stock ROM. I've installed Greenify two days ago, and enabled aggressive doze with amazing results! Last night I enabled Doze on the Go (using ADB) and since unplugging my phone this morning there is this constant wakelock of Google Play Services. Disabling Doze on the Go as well as reinstalling Greenify didn't help. Looking forward to a solution!
This is a known problem. Sometimes it's worse and sometimes less, but Google Play Services is a known offender in this manner. And Google processes in general. Part of the reason for this is that Google often wakes up your device, periodically, to track your location (horrible, yes, and it continued to happen for me even when all Google location options I could find, as well as GPS, were turned off).
Solutions that have reportedly worked for some people in the past (try one at a time or all of them) - they don't require root:
-Make sure you do not Greenify/freeze/hibernate Google Play Services, or similar processes, as this may make the issue worse.
-Clear cache and data of Google Play Services.
-Manually update Google Play Services to latest APK version available from your device, downloaded from the web. Make sure you select the right version for you. http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services
-Try turning off as many Google background features as you can, such as location tracking/history, etc.
I guess some of these steps may only work after the next reboot, so reboot the device when you're done.
But as I said, this process is a known big offender. The above may not work, or may work temporarily. The stronger and more permanent solutions require root (you don't really need to try the above options if you do these). The more of them you do, the less 'keep awake' you should experience:
-Install Xposed Installer app and install Xposed Framework, so you can use the modules mentioned below...
-Use AppOpsXposed module (or CM Privacy Guard if you have it) to deny keep awake permission to Google Play Services, and other Google background apps.
-This is a big one: Install Amplify (Xposed module) from the Play Store, and it will automatically take care of limiting Google wakelocks. That's it. If you pay for the pro version, then you can additionally tweak and limit all wakelocks, alarms and services on your device (pretty cool and useful, but more involved, so for advanced users).

The unpaid version of Amplify will block a maximum of a couple of wakelocks related to location. Only the pro version is capable of blocking other wakelocks and alarms including those of Play Services. But as you said, it is not automatic and you will have to set it up.
Any updates on this?
Google play services is awful

Not a Greenify issue. Some devices/ROMs/configs seem more susceptible to GPS runaway. Clearing GPS cache+data on occasion followed by an immediate reboot has proven helpful for some. Good luck.
