I've searched around for this and I can't find anything on it.
Before one of the kitkat updates, the camera and video shutters used to be on the same screen. Ever since then, they've been tucked away into a separate camera and video mode. It's super annoying to have to switch. I've noticed that on my friend's m8 and m9, that the two shutters are still on the same screen. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, does anyone know how to restore that button (short of rooting and putting on a custom camera)?

is it possible you accidentally changed some camera settings or camera mode?
Try going to the camera settings menu (bottom left corner of the camera app), scroll that menu all the way out, and pick "reset". This will reset your camera to factory settings. See if the problem still persists.
Or it could be too dark, and auto mode cannot focus. you need to engage night mode. but first try setting reset above.

My guess would be you've switched the macro function on at some point (either deliberately or accidentally) and then forgotten to switch back to auto-focus (I had the same problem with mine until I realised what it was!).
Go to Settings down in the bottom left of the camera screen, then select 'Focus Mode' and change back to 'Auto focus'.
I didnt turn anything on or off, i flashes the firmware to ke7. but it stopped working before i flashed. also i have reset the cam settings tons of times, nothing seems to work. it goes out of focus right after it starts focusing, and then the red bare thing comes up
It is obviously software issues, because its gets perfectly focussed before it goes blurry again
Hmm is it the macro mode issue that I read about?
Never heard anything like what you are describing, sorry.
Please do update this thread if you figure out the issue.
re-flash or update the camera's firmware
+1 to this problem. It's frustating.
I got the same problem. I just give the phone a tap on the back and it starts working again. Its so weird... i'm thinking my camera autofocus is dodgy/stuck
Try Settings >Applications >Manage Aplications > All > Camera > clear DATA
Or are you sure there is no dust on the Lens????? Trying wiping it clean
If both the above Dont work ... I dont you and you dont know me
bump..
have the same issue...
no focus at all in video mode.
i reset the camera setting a few times, delete all data from the camera app, still no luck.
my cam FW is :
cam fw ver : scef02
phone fw ver : tbec28
please advise as this is getting really frustrating...
many thanks.
Samsung I9100 camera focus problem
Hi,
I have the same issue as described above. Perhaps it occured just as I updated to Android version 2.3.3, not sure but could be.
Anyone found a solution to this problem?
auto focus doesn't work correctly out of the box
Hello,
Just got a brand new GSII from Sprint; awesome!! AutoFocus though is CRAZY and possessed!! it will be in focus then go out of focus... non-stop... did this from day one; Running 2.3.4 does not seem to do this with the still camera.
I'm having the same problem. I tried switching roms, going back to stock, nothing helped. Anyone having a solution? It is a software issue, because 3 days ago mine was working for like 5 min..

!
I had the same problem but disappeared cleaning the lens from the fingerprints and grease
I finally rooted and the flashed Galnet Miui, but then the quality of photos dropped. So I flashed another ROM, same results. So now i restored backup of my original ROM and it got better, but still nowhere near the quality of pre-root.
So I messed up camera for nothing =/
I have the same problem, with one small difference, i dropped the phone in the toilet. Got it dry, changed the camera and now I have this focus problem. In camera mod, if I touch the screen the camera will focus, but it doesn't focus from the moment I start the Camera app. So since the camera don't auto-focus by itself when I go into video mod the image is all blurry.

Hi guys -
I just upgraded from the Cappy to the Galaxy S2 on AT&T. The phone looks and feels great, but I noticed the colors on the screen are not realistic in some apps. The wallpaper on the homescreen & lock screen looks amazing, but the pictures I take with the camera, and the colors in some of the game apps (i.e. Hanging with Friends) look very different. The colors are over-saturated and dark. I've never had this issue on the Cappy, and was wondering if anyone else had similar problems? I searched online and found the international version has a display mode option setting, which is non-existent on the i777. I tried using the Screen Adjuster app, but it didn't help an awful lot.
Took a screen capture with the phone, but the colors look normal there. Would need to borrow another phone or camera to take a picture...and then will post pics as a side by side comparison on what the screen captures.
Anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?

I assume you are running a stock ROM - if so, I believe Samsung defaults the screen mode to "dynamic" and got rid of the option to select other modes (normal and movie) in their ROMs. Most (possibly all) of the custom ROMs on this forum add that selection option back. menu>display>screen mode.

Thanks for the quick response! Yea, I'm still on stock ROM...was thinking of rooting and flashing to a custom one soon. Will report back results of the display after. Thanks again!
I've look all over the forums not just here but other places at well, i cannot find anything on this other than what i have seen. So the left camera on this device will some time pop up and on while video is playing. not just video shot from the device but from the a movie that was put on there as well. while the video is playing in landscape the left half of the screen will be the camera. the only way to correct it at this point is to home screen it or back arrow out or battery pull
steps taken so far
restored to new
re-seated the camera and the ribbons
restore to new again
replaced camera and ribbons
restored once more
at this point im at a lost here.
*photos will come shortly if at all possible Thanks for the help
Ok, so I purchased this Xperia P two days back. All's well, tested everything using the test code too. This is something I noticed only after Jellybean update because I only looked at it after that point. When taking an image from the camera, all's well in daylight, but in dark areas, the image becomes too dull *THE MOMENT I tap the capture key or button* Before the moment I tap the capture button, everything looks good on screen through the lens, but the moment i tap the capture key, it's all way too dark. Let me tell you precisely what I mean. When not having tapped the capture key, dark areas look good, as if the ISO value is 800. The moment I tap the capture key, the final image is as if the ISO is 100 only. THAT dark. And this isn't the "partial black" problem from ICS. I tried several different stock ROMs to fix this but it didn't go away. Even tried a stock ICS ROM but same issue with dark areas. Is it just me going through this bizarre problem or does anyone else here experience the same? Moreover, does anyone have ANY idea what the heck I can do about this? Please help with this. Thanks.
problem video
And here is the video I created of the problem. You can see it in action here. Please help me with this.
Hey all, so I got the unlocked US model of the G5. First thing I noticed is a scratch on the back on the paint near the camera. I was upset, but thinking if I returned it, I'd get something worse back.
Anyways, when I went to use Snapchat, I noticed if everything is on the dark side I can see some lines on the video/photo viewfinder and it stays in photos/videos if it shows while recording. So far this only appears to happen in Snapchat, so I'm hoping it's something with the app, as it doesn't show in the stock camera. (See sample video below)
Can anyone who uses Snapchat check if this is a thing?
Sample: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8OF-gTbFNmSVVdLSlAtdGdYUWM (that's South Park in the background fyi)
Thanks for any input!
I think if you have your phone in any version of English other than US, it will change the anti-banding setting in all camera apps. I can't watch the video right now, but it sounds like what you're describing. Snapchat is working just fine for me.

I don't think that's the problem. I'm in the U.S. and have it set to U.S. (just tried UK, as well).
It comes and goes and only on the right side of the screen.
I noticed also in the stock camera app it seems the viewfinder "lags" (has lots of motion blur) while taking photos., causing some photos to come out blurry. This never happened on my G5 H815.
My snapchat is the same, I get those lines down too
I have a Verizon G5 and have those exact issues in Snapchat. Strange, dully colored vertical lines when moving the rear camera, and a dark front camera.
The front seems to be a bit better from an update, but I'm thinking they have no idea how to code for the dual cameras.
I have the same problem on my g5 rs988
Update your Snapchat app, the issues I use to have is that front camera flashes on snapchat when trying to use it in low light photos or rooms, inside places, etc. Otherways the photo came extremaly grainy too, but no that lines.
Later I joined beta and it seems solved now i dont see that flashes from black to light or grainy selfies, even the resolution looks like normal camera even in low light
Same for me with G5 H850
The snapchat camera is fixed now.
