I have a samsung galaxy s4 that I bought through Verizon but switch to pageplus. I now have a samsung tab 2 & I want to tether my S4 to my tablet. Is there a way to do this without rooting my S4? If so can you please provide any apps I need to download or any instructional Pages I should read. I do not have the tethering and mobile hotspot option in my settings so I am assuming I have an issue....

Howdy,
Just purchased my new Samsung Tab 10.1 yesterday and successfully rooted it but havent decided on a ROM yet. But what I need right away is a good tethering app so I can use my "wifi only" Tab out in the field. Can someone please recommend a nice tethering app for my brand new 10.1?
Also, is CM7 available for the 10.1 yet? If not is there a nice ROM for the 10.1 that has risen to the top yet? I sure miss CM7.
Thank you!

If you have the 3G tab, go to Settings > Wireless and networks > Tethering and portable hotspot. Boom! There you go!
Now, if you have a WiFi only Tab, umm... you're... not supposed to be able to tether with that...
The whole point of tethering is to take a device's connection to a -mobile- network, and share it out to other devices via USB/Bluetooth/WiFi... Since a WiFi only Tab doesn't have a connection to a mobile network... yeah...
I think what you're asking is, what's a good tethering app for your -phone- so you can share your -phone's- connection to your Tab. Right? That being the case, you might want to give us some more information about THAT device, since that's the one you need to focus on.
Tethering App
You're right. My new phone will arrive this afternoon. It,s a brand new ATT Samsung Galaxy S II. And about 30 minutes after I recieve it, it will be successfully rooted.
Also, is CM7 ready for the S 2? If not, what ROM does everyone recommend?
Thank you.
OK- here is what you really want to know-
a) Your phone has CM7 [click here]
b) The hotspot created by that phone is an "ad hoc" connection, not natively supported by the SGT. To fix that you will need this. You MUST read the whole thread- it has the hint you need.
Ok, I give up. What's the hint I'm looking for?
It looks like you will need to open up that ROM in the link to get the wpa_supplicant file and replace the one on your Tab. I assume that's all that's needed to enable ad-hoc networks. The only question i have is if that file will work ok since it's from an 8.9 ROM. Be sure to backup your current wpa_supplicant file in case there's an issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083182
The tab 10.1v ad-hoc fix, does work on the 10.1. Tasks ROMs do have ad-hoc enabled. Not sure if the 3.2 ROM he has enables yet, but I'm sure he'll add it. Task has been very good at adding what users need/request.
I believe I may have not worded the start of this thread correctly. Here is what I'm trying to do;
1. I have a brand new AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Smartphone with a 2gb Data plan.
2. I also have a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Tablet WiFi ONLY.
3. I want to use the the Tablet out in the field by tethering off of my Galaxy S II Smartphone with the Data plan.
Is this what's described above? It appears to me to be the other way around. If it is does anyone know a thread or App that let's me tether my Tablet off of my Smartphone?
Thanks...
That's exactly what they're saying. First you need to use any application (it might even support it natively) that enables your S2 phone to make an 'ad-hoc' connection.
BUT your Tab won't natively support connections like that, so you have to use one of the fixes provided in this thread to enable it (replacing your wpa_supplicant file with one that supports ad-hoc connections should do the trick).
Hi guys,
I've rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 and want to use the tethering option without buying a tethering plan (for reasons of my own)
I looked into the various apps that allow this (FoxFi, Wifi tether) etc and none of them work.
So i saw something on entitlement checks and how this bypasses the check that causes my carrier to block my tethering.
Is there anything like that out there for my phone?
Note:
I'm rooted, and have SQLite Editor already.
Thanks

58 people have seen this and not one has anything to post? anything at all....
What network are you on?
If you're on 3 I wouldn't worry about it I hammer the life out of mine.
Hello!
I'm a 70-year old grandmother who has never posted here before so please be patient. I am posting because a couple of old posts I read here helped me solve this frustrating and aggravating problem. I figured maybe my additional info might help someone else who may stumble onto this site trying to solve this Tmobile wireless hotspot problem on their own unlocked ATT phones.
Since I'm new they won't let me post actual links so search around online if you need to You'll find them.
TL;DR - You're right. All I can suggest is that you Just read through things or skim until you get to the part/s that help you.

:: THE PROBLEM ::
==================
I could not FOR THE LIFE OF ME get my Tmobile hotspot to work on my unlocked Att phone (Samsung Mega 6.3 SGH - i527 4.4.2). I WAS able to successfully tether using FoxFi/PdaNet but NOT connect as a wireless mobile hotspot. Whenever I would try to connect as a hotspot the following error appeared: "Mobile Data is not available or Invalid SIM"
[Here is more detailed info on FoxFi/Pdanet for those, like me, who know nothing.]: FoxFi/PdaNet allows mobile hotspot, tethering (using a USB cable), and bluetooth. FoxFi (dot) com . There is a charge ($10?) to get the unlock key for full features. It was worth every penny because running my laptop through my phone by tether - and NOW wifi hotspot - saves me about $50/month in broadband internet charges!! Tra-la!! (Fixed income, you know.)
*Note, there are two parts FoxFi/Pdanet. One application goes on your phone, the other goes on your laptop/desktop so they can communicate while tethering. There is a new application just for tablets in the App Store. I don’t know if there is one for iphone.
Download links:
For Android (plus Mac or Windows) download here pdanet (dot) co
For iPhone (plus Windows) download here: junefabrics (dot) com
There is a new FoxFi/PdaNet application just for tablets in the App Store. I don’t know if there is one for iphone \ tablets.

* * *SOLUTION THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR ME * * * ( after 4 months of trying everything!):
==============================================
STEP 1: I ROOTED MY PHONE
Actually, I did this awhile ago and I don't remember how I did it but I'm pretty sure it involved the "Kingroot" application. Google around for rooting instruction for your particular phone
STEP 2: QUESTIONABLE STEP but who knows
( I don't really think you need to do this but I did and I figure I'll give you all the info that was involved. I uninstalled this AFTER I fixed this issue and there's been no problem but you never know if somehow it was necessary.
Thinking it, alone might do the trick, I installed __ EntitlementByPass-v1.2.apk ___"for the Motorola Moto X, by KrYpToNiTe"
Download Page link here:
androidfilehost (dot) com (forward slash) ?w=profile&uid=23329332407576114
Download link here:
androidfilehost (dot) com (forward slash) ?fid=23501681358557764
(Actually, I got so crazy that I installed this on top of itself several times and clicked to bypass each time. God knows what doing those installs like that did. Maybe nothing. Maybe it almost bricked (ruined) my phone. What I do know is that when I took Step 2 (below) the bypass was OFF. Again, later I uninstalled this and had no problems without being on the phone.)
STEP 3: I watched and EXACTLY followed the instructions on the following YouTube video (Detailed info below was in the description. Included it here in case the video ever disappears. My added comments are in brackets.
"HOW TO GET FREE NATIVE WIFI HOTSPOT ON THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 AT&T"
youtube (dot) com (forward slash) watch?v=SHKkEKjUnqM
Published on Jul 12, 2013
This is a tutorial video on how to get free hotspot on the Samsung Galaxy S4 AT&T. MUST BE ROOTED IN ORDER TO GET FREE HOTSPOT. This only works on the SGH - i337 and AT&T. Enjoy your free Hotspot!
[Clearly, it works on more than just the SGH - i337]
Instructions
1. ROOT Your Galaxy S4 - youtu (dot) be (forward slash) KBZ6ydFHLX4
2. DOWNLOAD free "TetheringProvision.apk" (application) [directly to your phone from the Play Store]
3. DOWNLOAD free "Root Browse" (application) [directly to your phone from the Play Store]
4. OPEN the "Root Browser" application and navigate to /system/app [Go inside the "system" folder, find and open the "app" folder that will be in there.]
5.
a. LOCATE these two files in that "app" folder:
TetheringProvision.apk
and
TetheringProvision.odex
b. RENAME each of the two files [by pressing and holding the file itself, then selecting edit or change name, I don’t know which.]
c. CHANGE the name "TetheringProvision.apk" to "TetheringProvision.bak"
d. CHANGE the name "TetheringProvision.odex" to "TetheringProvision.bak1"
(*Make sure you grant Superuser Request!) [This is relevant only after you root your phone, in which case it will make sense if you have installed the SuperUser app on your phone.]
6. USE the "Root Browser" app to find your downloads folder: [Go inside the "sdcard" folder, find and open the "Download" folder]
(/sdcard/Download). This will be where you downloaded the TetheringProvision.apk.]
7. COPY the “TetheringProvision.apk”:
[This is like copying and pasting text but here we're copying and pasting an entire application. How it works I don't know but it does.
a. PRESS down on it and select “copy”.
b. GO BACK to the "system" folder, find and open the "app" folder
c. Paste it in by clicking the large button near the bottom of your screen that says “Paste”. If you don’t see that button, start this step over.]
8. Reboot your Galaxy S4 [or whatever phone you have] and turn on native Mobile Hotspot via Settings. ATT will still give you a warning message, but mobile hotspot/tethering will now work!
* * * [Special Note #1] I turned it on using FoxFi because I wanted to try hide my usage. Did it work? I don't know. I have unlimited Data with Tmobile and I'm way over the 5 GB hotspot allowance for unlimited users. If it becomes a problem I will download the "Wifi Tether" app and give that a try. So far so good. Actually, I think turning the Wifi on through FoxFi automatically turns on the native ATT hotspot toggle in the settings.
* * * [Special Note #2] When I tried to turn it on at first I ran into trouble. I got "setting have stopped" messages for quite awhile but that was a NEW error message so I knew SOMETHING had changed. I REFUSED to give up. I just kept goofing around turning it on and waiting and getting the error message and restarting my phone and turing it on and on and on and getting the message and restarting my phone, etc. THEN, all of a SUDDEN, that sucker worked!!! I knew it because two little wireless icons (one Foxfi, blue; and PdAnet, black) rolled up on my top notifications bar. They rolled up, they rolled down, they rolled up, again, and THEN THEY STAYED THERE!! I could NOT believe my eyes!! I let it run for awhile too afraid to turn it off in case it would never come back. But it did. It went on and off just fine so, eventually, I uninstalled the EntitlementBypass app without if affecting anything. This being said, SOMETIMES, I still get the "setting have stopped" error message, in which case I just restart my phone, toggle it on and do that until it comes back on to stay.
* * * [Special Note #3] If you get this to work, I don't know if it still will if you update your system, security, anything, so I NEVER WILL. I'd rather have a working hotspot than ANY of that.

So I just bought a galaxy s5 because I thought it would be easier to get an app that can let me tether unlimited, I lost my jailbreak on my iPhone which had a Cydia app called tetherme that would give all connected devices the same IP address, thus hiding my tethered connections. So my question is, is this at all possible on android, if so what do I need to do? Is there a rom for my device that would allow me to tether this way ?
Hello, I am thinking about switching phone service from Verizon to Google FI and I would like to root a Samsung Note 20 (5G). Can anyone tell me the best rooted Rom that has the Hotspot wifi tethering option included in the Rom? Thank You
