2 questions - Nexus 6 Accessories

Hey guys/gals,
I had my nexus 6 since February and been flashing the heck out of it (hehehe), but two things are annoying the crap out of me that I can't figure out.
1) What are the best ways to get crud/dust out of the speaker areas? My phone has been collecting crap in there since day one and i cant find a way to remove it
2) What are some good recommendations for screen protectors that will work with spigen case?

1) Duster maybe? I haven't tried and have just started noticing dust accumulation as well.
2) All of my Spigen's work fine with my XTremeGuard TGSP.

Would this have any effect on smart phones? I guess I am alittle hesitant on this. I heard of this stuff and good things.

1. New but un-used toothbrush. I run a mobile phone repair shop and toothbrushes are one of our top used tools! Cleans everything!
2. Im more than happy with my cheap x10 for 99p cheap ones, soon as it gets tacky or worn, replace with another, will last me 8-10 months before i need to replace.

I personally think you shouldn't worry about which glass screen protectors fit on the phone case , but rather if you do opt for a glass tgsp, whether it fits without halo.

Screen Protection?

Can you recommend a suitable screen shield for my Hermes? I need a kind of a crystal surface (like some Notebooks nowadays have).

Do you have bubbles under the protection? Do you see the protection or is your shield really invisible ?
For my first two devices I used Brando anti-glare protectors (shop.brando.com.hk) and was very happy. It was a couple of years ago though, so they may have changed since.
But whatever you do, don't buy Proporta!
Their protectors are too small for the screen of the TyTN, and when (on their recommendation) you return the protector they will not send you a replacement. And when you tell them how unhappy you are with the situation they just stop answering your emails.

If applied properly & very carefully, then there are no bubbles. I have none, and it's transparent.
I use exim screen protector. I can definitely recommend it to anyone.
i agree with tiatrop,
i use the exim SPUC screen protectors on all my devices.
you can peel them off and reapply them,
the instruction says you can even wash them, but i've yet to try it.
and any bubbles when putting them on, can easily be pushed out.
I agree with bamse, I've been using Brando for years, I did try another brand on my C500 a couple of years back, they didn't come up to scratch. I'm using on my herm, no probs no bubble (you need to spend a little time carefully applying).
Boxwave has some good screen protectors. I'm using their crystal clear on my 8525 now and had the anti-glare on my HP iPAQ.

I washed mine once. It fell on the carpet so you can imagine the things that got stuck there! Damaged the corner a little bit but it was completely reapplyable, and I managed to get all the dust out with scotch-tape. Hence my recommendation.
Wow, thank you all for you recommendations. I definitely check them out.
But is there a way to apply a SP, without having bubbles? What you mean exactly with "carefuly"?
Do you use credit cards for that? I red that credit cards for appling are an evil thing.
I guess it's tall order to say make a youtube tutorial, haha...
cheers

I actually had this on my previous 8525 that I had to send back for warranty replacement. It is a booger to put on..took me a good half hour to do it right. The cutout pcs are not all exactly perfect but fit good enough. I really like it. It held up very well, gave the phone a slick glossy finish and made for good traction when I would set my phone down on my center console in my truck.(previously if I tried that it would slide(actually fly) off the vinyl covered console if I hit the brakes too hard or turned a corner too fast... with the Shield on there it never slipped. I am going to order another one now for this warranty replacement as well..just been waiting to make sure this device didnt fail before installing another shield!

wouldnt a credit card or anything similar work?
I've been using screen protectors for some time now on my previous and current PDA's and phones; HP has a nice system of protectors that have grids on the removable side to assist in visually getting the best fit. Would never use my 8525 without one... and yes, anything like an old credit card, cut to the right size, will work to get air bubbles out.
But thanks to this thread, I've now ordered the Bodyshield; if it's all it's claims to be, AND with a lifetime guarantee, it should be worth the $24.95.

It does not come with tools, but the instructions recommend a credit card. Note that this is re-applyable if U have bubbles on the 1st try.

Zagg Invisible Shield

Hey everyone, I made this post to ask around and see if anyone has tried out the ZAGG Invisible shield for the Mytouch Slide, and what do you all think about it.
I'm thinking of buying it but would like to get some feedback first.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I have it on my slide it has allready saved my screen my daughter dropped mine and it scratched the screen shield and it saved my screen. They have a lifetime warranty they are a little difficult to put on so if you are getting it at a store let them do the install and whatever you do make sure you leave your phone of for 12 to 24 hours. 1 is it helps and all the bubles realease and 2 they use a liquid spray on each piece when they install it.And you dont want anything wet when you turn it back on. I swear by mine. And I live in Utah where they are headquartered.I have an in so I get alot of free skins and stuff.
I wont use any protector that requires a spray or water to apply the protector. I'm waiting for the plastic static cling protectors to come out. I used them on my G1 all the time and they are simple to put on without any bubbles and plus the are pretty cheap. These new rubbery screen protectors feel weird, they say its some high tech military material or some garbage. I just want a simple plastic protector that sticks to the screen with no solution. There's a ton for the G1 I dont know why they havent released any for the slide yet.
I'm not too sure about Invisible Shield, but I recently installed a bodyguardz full body protector on my slide and so far I love it. The major advantage I see over invisible shield is that, for about the same price, bodyguardz gives you two sets of protectors in case you botch the first installation (which I did). Overall, after a few days after the second installation I only have a few small bubbles and I actually love the feel of it overall... since installing the protector, I have found it much more easier to type accurately in swype, but that may just be me. There is also no negative effect on the touch screen in any way if you were worried about that.

Thanks a lot! I actually never even thought to check T-Mobile and the last time I checked e-bay all I could find are those new ones that require that spray or water. I just bought these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...Category=20336&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=2 I'll let you guys know how they are. I can also tell you NOT to order these http://www.amazon.com/EZguardZ-T-Mo..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1278542660&sr=8-1 I bought them and they are trash, literally thats where they ended up in my trash lol.
Thanks for the info, and everyone's feedback, I went ahead and decided to get the ZAGG shield full body, try it out and see what happens, I tried the T-mobile ones and they just had too many scratches too quick, hopefully ZAGG won't let me down.

invisable shielde
whats up man. i just wanted to let you know about my personal expirences with invisible shields. i personally have had one on every htc phone ive ever owned (touch pro, touch pro II, HD2, and now the mytouch slide 3G) and i love pretty much everything about them. they seriously are nearly scratch proof and honestly, during a fall it will protect your phone for the most part. installation can be a pain in the a$$, but you just have to brave about it and use plenty of the spray. use it ilberally on the actual shield and your finger-tips and it will make it pretty easy to position it. on the back peice just go ahead and soak that thing cuz its hard to get it right the first time. luckily if you do mess up, these things come with a lifetime replacement warrenty. all you have to do is give them back the old shield and they'll hook you up with a brand new one . once you figure it out though you'll appreciate it a lot. it gives the phone a really nice feel and it keeps it really well protected. me personally, i like to pair a full body invisible shield with a regular t-mobile screen protector. the reasoning behind this is, one, that ive discovered that it is nearly impossible to get the screen portion of the invisible shield on without bubbles underneth it for some reason (possibly because of how slick the screen is compared to the body of the phone?). and two, a touch screen is meant to be glided around on. it should be nice and slick and feel extremely smooth tothe touch, not all rubbery and sticky when warm. and finally, because it just plain looks better, straight up. your not going to get the same clean look of the plastic protector as you are from an invisible shield. yes the standard protectors are easier to scratch, but thats why they come in three packs. so you can replace em when nessesary. i find it easiest to place the protector down on the screen and position it properly, then take a piece of scotch tape and tape the side. that way you can peel up the backing and lay it down properly with a credit card as to get it perfectly positioned and without bubbles. if you follow my instructions you should be able to install with ease . ive really liked every invisible shield ive had, and the only problem ive found with them is that after time the edges of the shield will get dirty because of the adhesive on the back slowly being pressed out over time. that and the edges sometimes come up. but thats why they come with a warrenty, so you can replace em all you want . i tend to replace mine every 4 to 6 months. in the end i found that its a worth it investment if your the kind of person that wants to protect your phone but doesnt want to add a bunch of bulk to the phone from a case. it really allows the beauty of the phone to come out while still being protected. anyways, i hope my review will help you with your installation and help anyone else reading with their choice on wheather or not to purchase an invisible shield. i really like mine, and i hope you like yours too. enjoy
I have had the invisible shield on my last 3 phones and it is clean, discrete and it does everything that it is suppose to. I personally pay the extra money to have the representative put it on for me and call it a day. You will not be disappoint in the product and the others are just plain cheap and inefficient.

Went to the local ZAGG store and they finally had it, and I got it lol, now I got one and one coming in the mail, but I must say the full body extreme coverage is nice, feels a bit rubbery but the grip is awesome! So I must say my hat is off to you ZAGG.

Steinheil Screen Protectors **NOW ON SALE!!!**

Its on the general "screen protectors" thread, but these are so great they need to be announced in their own
no, its not just for announcing their availability (EVEN THOUGH IT IS http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/ht...-screen-protector-steinheil-ultra-series.html -- hell yeah!!), its for discussion too. I'd be happy to post pics of the shield upon arrival
These are easily the best screen protector out there in terms of strength, durability, texture, and light transmittence. I know there are legions of us that were holding out for these to finally go on sale.
now, to get ultra crystal or ultra fine?
EDIT: i ordered ultra crystal and it came out to ~$17. btw, im not sure if buying through amazon does the same, but ordering from the sgp website has always landed me with TWO protectors *hint hint*
I take it the ultra crystal is the clearest, whereas ultra fine reduces fingerprint smudges more? How noticeable is it with either that you have a screen protector on?
ultra crystal - completely invisible except at the edges were the protector obviously ends its surface is extremely glass-like
ultra fine - like any anti-glare/anti-fingerprint it has that matte-like texture/appearance so it'll be noticeable (i've only ordered ultra crystal)
neeevermind
Thanks. Not sure if I actually need a screen protector or not, but I decide to get one, it sounds like the ultra crystal is the one I'll pick. Are these dry or wet application?

yup I knew I should have said somewhere that they're dry installs.. ever since I tried skinomi in my E4GT and got water damage from the stupid wet install I'm strictly going dry from now on, even if it was just a fluke that one time.
Steinheil is usually top quality with their protectors so I'm sure the sensor will me accommodated for, I'll certainly report back when I get it.
As for NEEDing it, it's totally debatable. I've gone a couple weeks without and not a problem. It just gives peace of mind and since the ultra crystal is almost nonexistent its pretty much a win-win
NOTE: the picture on the Site is not accurate to what you'll get (looked at the advertised picture of the E4GT and it looked like there were no cutouts but there are when u get it)
Will definitely check back on your experience with these. I have ultra clear version on my OG evo and have been pleased with the results. I'm considering going without, but if these are good, I may just have to get them for the peace of mind.
Ordered mine. You can also buy via Amazon (sold by SGP).
The crystal ones are perfect. You can't tell that you have a screen protector. They last the longest, are the most scratch resistant and you don't have to put water near your phone.
I've been waiting (carefully) until these came out. Now I can feel better about not getting a random scratch on my screen.
I was going to go without a screen protector, but I may give these a try. So many people seem to speak highly of them.
May wait for someone to confirm that the proximity sensor works properly with one of these installed.

If installed correctly, you won't even notice a difference (using the Crystal). Plus you can feel safe about accidently putting your phone in the pocket with your keys, etc.
The only pain with installing is making sure you start to lay it down correctly. Unlike the water methods, you can't really shift it after you lay it down. The protector is a tight fight so your hands have to be on their 'A' Games. If you miss slightly, you have to pick up and retry, which could lead to random dust floating in.
Luckily, they usually give you two. So if you screw up royally with one, you get a second chance.
I've used dry protectors ever since I seen how absolutely terrible the zagg ones are. I did order an xo skin which makes me sad after seeing this. I'll wait for a review/pix and prolly order one anyway

Yep it comes with two. Only once did I have to abandon the first try and move on to the second one. I don't like installing them either, but I feel much better after I do. I feel much better installing a dry one like this (at least you can't really screw up the phone).
Looks like mine has shipped already. I'll let you know how they fit, apply, interaction w/ proximity sensor, etc.
Ran across a link to this somewhere.......haven't tried it yet myself, but it looks like it would keep it in the right place. Have to try it when I get my phone.....hopefully sometime soon.

yup its still on my S2 as well and I envy it bc I actually like it BETTER than the glass. sometimes the glass can be hard to navigate bc it doesn't have enough oil on it, but that's never a problem with the ultra crystal on it. like someone said earlier, ultra crystal is perfect.
I'll make an installation video when mine comes in which will probably be Friday or Saturday, I'm no professional though so don't expect too much. the method that they demo in their install videos on their Site works very well. It also comes with stickers to help lift the protector and take out dust specks if any get trapped under the film. you just need to find a clean, dust free environment to install it - like a murky bathroom after a hot shower

Scratched rim around the screen - any tips?

Guys, I need help. I've bought a used RAZR HD a month and a half ago and it was in a very good condition. 9/10, maybe even 9.5. had just a scratch or two on the rim around the screen.
Since then, I've dropped it onto concrete two times and on both occasions in went corner down, so now I've got two completely wrecked corners. Nothing else is broken, it's all fine, the kevlar back is pretty much mint, the screen is great, it's just that rim that is now completely ruining the look of the phone...
Did anyone face the same problem and what have you done to fix it, if anything? The only idea I've got now is to sand down the rim to be at level with the screen, that would possibly make it look good again. Naturally, I'd be very careful as to not scratch the screen...
Can that rim be replaced anyway? I'll check out the disassembly guides and videos now to see whether it goes together with the screen...
I'm so annoyed right now. The second drop happened minutes ago... God flipping damn it. The problem is that Moto's have not been widely used here in Serbia for years now and that makes the availability of any equipment for them more than scarce. I'll be ordering a universal case right now (the one in which you slide the phone in and out) but I'd still love to make it look good again.
Flipping damn it
*edit*
According to this video... It's glued very very strongly together - http://youtu.be/LfAyttf6fWU
That's just great... And I can't even find a silicon case, be it no name or branded, to cover it all up. Will see if I can order anything from across the border.

This would be it, right - http://youtu.be/Eg5qkRCm5pU ? But, doesn't it turn what is already a quite a big phone into a massive one? Because it certainly seems so I'm guessing this cannot fit a pocket of any sort of pants? But it does seem to offer outstanding protection. Alas, at what a price, both functionality and monetary-wise (the price is $40+ on amazon?)... But even if I wanted to spend that amount of money on a case, I'd have to keep my fingers crossed for probably no less than a month, hoping that it will eventually arrive, intact and without many additional fees. Third world problems...
Thanks for the advice, anyway! I might pick up the Commuter edition, it seems more reasonable for my needs

I might pick up the Commuter edition, it seems more reasonable for my needs

yes thats it, im in construction so i went with defender, my sister has commuter and it seems to offer a level of protection for most peoples uses (2-3 foot drops) and yes it does make the phone bigger so if thats a concern i would go with commuter, also the screen protector on the defender is part of the case but with the commuter its a stick on screen protector if that matters to you( i can never get those to go on without wrinkles) i beleieve the 40 $ ones are the black ones bc otterbox stopped making them i bought a black one for 20$ 6 months ago

Thanks for the information once again, mate! And, yeah, I just figured out that there are different versions. The one with pink details is the cheapest...damn
We'll see how I can get my hands on one. The shipping fees are going to be higher than the price of the case itself, ffs :/

Here's what I have (well, it's the same style but mine is a Body Glove that I purchased from Walmart but I cannot find it anywhere online):
http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Mat...9233999&sr=8-2&keywords=motorola+razr+hd+case
It's worked well so far. I've dropped my phone a couple of times, once face down and maybe two times on the side and/or corner, and my phone has been protected.
Overall, it adds a little bulk, but nothing like an Otterbox. I can put this into my pants pockets without much issue.

This is very much like the generic cases available here for most smartphones, priced at $2-3. Would you say that your case has a premium quality and is worth the higher price? Because I've found those generic ones available together with free shipping on eBay. But I know how lousy their protection and appearance are, so I'm still weighing my options.

Again, that is not exactly the case I have, but I purchased it at a Walmat department store for about $14.
It feels rubbery and it's flexible when the phone is not in it. Mine says "Body Glove" on it but I cannot find it on their site (they don't list any cases for the Droid RAZR HD).
Overall, I wouldn't say it's premium quality (not like I had with my Otterbox cases for my OG RAZR MAXX that I used to own), but it does seem to do the job for me. As I said, I've dropped the phone face down with the case I have (which is similar to the one I linked to on Amazon) and the phone came out unscathed. It was about a three foot drop onto the concrete floor in my garage if that gives any indication.

Another vote to the Diztronic - it would cover that damage and will prevent the same type of damage when you drop it again. Mine has lived in one of these since I got it and gets tossed around all the time. Has landed face first a few times and has not skipped a beat thanks to the raised lip.

Thanks, mate. The Diztronic looks wonderful compared to the chinese "s-line" thing I bought because of free shipping... It's just crap and it doesn't even cover the edges properly - the left one is fine, but it cannot stay on top of the right one. Check the picture for illustration. I'll be sure to get the Diztronic one in the future. Can you just tell me whether its rubberised or is it just the matte finish making it look as if though it were? Because it looks like it is and that it's insanely sticky and that I wouldn't be able to stick it in my pocket, but I guess it's just the matte finish

Did you remove the stock screen protector?

It's been two years since I have purchased a phone but is it safe to assume the "screen protector" is only intended for shipping purposes or is this an actual screen protector LG added so you don't have to buy one and install one if you wanted?
safe to remove
in fact the one that came with my phone had some printings on it
so I would advise to remove it and if you know you are careless and usually drop/scratch your phone, would suggest getting a tempered glass one

do you think it was intended for shipping purposes or is this considered an actual protective screen cover? It seems super glossy to me which would lead me to guess it's only there to protect it from shipping and handling etc..
It differs per country and provider. In the Netherlands I have used it for somewhat like two months and was working very fine.

I just got my phone, and it has one on there. It's not bad, but I never liked the way they feel. But then again, I feel the same way about cases. I bought it to enjoy the feel of it, not to hide it all. Of course every couple of phones, it comes back to haunt me as I watch it fall to the ground, lol...
just figured out it must be the gorilla glass.. I'm not really a fan but since it's already installed I'm going to leave it on.. it smudges really bad...
