Hi there,
I need help on my Lenovo P780. I flashed it with P780_ROW_S124_140403_rooted_twrp_gapps ROM, procedure seemed to be ok but, after the green circle, I cannot switch on my smartphone anymore. Power+volumedown doesn't work and power+volumeup+volumedown as well. Now it's not recognized on my win7 pc! I tried to "uninstall" from device manager on my OS and then use the drivers contained in the .rar file "MTK_USB__Driver_GOOOOODDD" suggested some threads ago... but nothing happens, it's still an "unknown device" for Windows.
The only signal of life is the red light when the smartphone is connected to my laptop.
Please help me to solve this brick, I really do not know how to proceed.

Tell me what drivers do you use, and what FLASH Tool. In detail!
If this dont work maybe we can establish a connection with teamviewer, so i can see what tools do you use and what ROM.

I'm using SP Flash Tool V3.1304.0.sn119 (build: 2013/01/28 11:26 r1073)
About the drivers... I'm using "MTK USB driver" folder that you shared in a thread some time ago... where can I get the version? Here you can find in attachment a png screenshot, as you can see date modify of the files in the package. Unfortunately I can't get info from my Windows device manager because of the actual "unknown device" recognition of my P780
just in case, ok for the teamviewer session, thank you for your availability!

Hi there,
it seems that now the device is recognized by Win7 because it finished its driver installation.
In the device manager now I see a "MediaTek DA USB VCOM (Android) (COM11)"; anyway, I downloaded the latest version of SPFTools (v5.1352.01) but both of the instances stops at "searching" time and 0% of the flashing process.
Could please someone advise?

Try to make sure the device is fully turned off. try to press the red button beside the battery. And then reconnect the cable while it is in the mode "Searching".. if it does not connect .. try unplugging and replugging it again.

After pressing the red button it got it up, thank you handshake1234. But flashing process stops later with the same error of the last ROM I tried to flash yesterday (attached).
Is that meaning I used another time a uncompatible ROM?
(Yesterday) S124_140403_rooted_twrp_gapps
(Today) P780_ROW_S123_131231_rooted_twrp_gapps
both for ROW.
Can anyone say something about the attached png error?

I only pressed for a few seconds the small red button near the battery. I think it's like a harder reset. after pressing it, I tryied back to connect the phone to my pc and... voilà!

I have the same problem. Sh1ts started when I try to make backups. First, Mobileuncle said: no sd card?' No sdcard0,nosdcard1. So I didn't make backup on my IMEI's. But that is is my little problem. Generally, I saw that there were 2 versions: 4gb Chinese and 8gb row. So i opened explorer and saw 8gb storage. I thoght that I'm row. But I coudn't see version of my rom. Whatever, I decided to flash Russian version VIBE 2.0 lite etc. with replaced files for 8gb. Instled drivers and flashtool. It always gave me same error: DRAM FAIL 4032. Then, I tried to flash cust. recovery for the model. After flashing recovery it wen into a brick or bootloop. Now the screen wan't turn on. I read your guidens above, but when I try to flash stock rom it says: dram fail 4032, cant change preloader with yours couse mdchecksum doesn 't get right. When i try to flash to flash Russian VIBE with your pleloader it says not enogh space 1011. I think the drivers work properly, because spft recognizes the device and see it on com8 etc...

Hi.
Go there and download your firmware !
Flash it !
For custom recovery go there and download ROW ONLY recovery(openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0rev2-p780row.zip)!
Creeate one folder, unzip the recovery img and Copy the scatter file from your firmware in that folder.
Here is one "small" tutorial for rooting!

Hil You can flash any rom you want iff you have the right preloader..
Here is the preloader and what you must do: download any flash tool rom and replace original preloader with this one.
Iff is an stock rom you must delete checksum.ini. allso.
Tell me iff something goes wrong.

Hi all, I have a same problem and it is annoy me.
I have downoaded ROM and flash tool as weel, but cant put files in tho rows.
ído we need something else or just we need ROM, flash tools, preloaded file, and thats all?

Custom preloader must replace the original one in the target_bin folder.

ok, i have now rooted the phone, i downloaded the LiFe_v07_for_P780_for_PC_Flash.7z but how am i supposed to add the preloader here?
i downloaded a different rom, found the "target bin folder", do the PRELOADER have to have the same name as the original one??

i did as you told, and it works!! no sudden restarts, clean nice, with no bloatware had to flash the v51 modem for 860 due to bad connectivity, but works now THANK YOU FRIEND!! :good:

Just now I studied above topic, because I have a some problem. So according to your discussion I have only one way. But I am only a phone user, not expert concerning the above issue. But I have bit or minimum knowledge so I think I can do it. But I need some help, and direction what and how have to do it. Please let me know from where can I download the best and fixed ROM, (which is the better, 4.2 or 4.4) how can I use flash tools and preloaded file. Please help me or send me a link about video where I can obtain more solution. But it will be better if you provide me some support because I can forward some question If I have a problem. I would be appreciated.

Hi. I think that i should explain THAT THERE IS NOT AN FIXED ROM just tested ROM. . I reccomend 2 of this ROMS. Life v.07 for Android 4.2.2 and Life v.09 for android 4.4.2.
FIRST READ THIS TUTORIAL AT LEAST 2 TIMES. :laugh:
Now step by step how to doit. This is the hard part for beginners:
1. download in your computer the drivers(i have uploadet to you)
2. install drivers
3. restart your computer (just to be sure) (skip steps 1.2.3 iff you have allready installed drivers)
4. now... turn off your phone
5. plug your USB cable in your computer
6. plug your USB cable in your phone
7. new hardware detected should appear... and should install drivers automaticaly
8. after the drivers are installed unplug your cable from the phone and restart your computer (just to be sure)
9. after restart of your computer download the ROM ,unzip to a known folder,
10. now download the preloader file from this post
11. unzip preloader file, go to target_bin folder and delete existing preloader(preloader_prada_row.bin), and add the preloader you downloadet, and delete any file from target_bin directory with the name Checksum.ini.
12. now load scatter file from ROM directory(should be target_bin directory)
13. check DA,DL WITH CHECKSUM (NOT OPTIONAL)
14. press Firmware Upgrade button (NOT DOWNLOAD BUTTON)
15. now just now plug usb cable to your phone.
16. firmware flash should start.(some red and other color lines should appear)
15. iff the firmware is not starting remove the back case of your phone and hold pressed the little red button from the right side, for about 20 seconds then release. All this must be done with cable pluged in to your phone.
17. after flash is done a green circle should appear
18. disconect your phone and power on your phone
19. lenovo logo should appear. then you should be pacient because it will took some time before android boots for the first time.
20. after this let the phone reboot at least once.
21. now plug cable in to your phone and copy zip archives(example: for life v.09 you must copy P780_s221_LiFe_XVIBE_v09 archive and P780_s223_LiFe_XVibe_v1.1 archive on the media storage or SD Card, on sdcard is better)
22. after the archives are copied reboot your phone to recovery. You can istall Reboot Manager from app store and reboot to Recovery.
23. After reboot to recovery you must go to install and select first archive P780_s221_LiFe_XVIBE_v09. Install and reboot the phone at least once. With the seccond archive P780_s223_LiFe_XVibe_v1.1 the steps are the same.
24. Reboot at least once then your phone is ready to work HARD.
25. Good luck. Hope This Helps You.
26. Do not be afraid. This phones are hard to HARD BRICK. Most of them are SOFT BRICK.
I have uploadet some pictures for 2 tipes of Flash Tool.
So driver is downloaded. Comp is restarted. Device is turned off and plugged on Comp. But automatically install not started. Device started recharge only. ((

hmm... something is wrong here.... what ROM do you try to flash?
Hi, I think I am in deep trouble now. My p780 8gb is completely dead after trying to flash a TWRP recovery in to it using a flash tool. Not sure what went wrong I fiddled with some settings in flash tool like 'firmware upgrade' and 'download' and at last saw a Dram failed message. I was using the latest s226 Kitkat ROW. Now all I can see is a red led charging light glowing while connecting it to a computer. The device is not getting recognized by VCOM drivers so no use with flash tool any more. Tried to reboot in to recovery and meta mode but the phone simply does not turn on. Anyone knows how to unbrick this, kindly help.

Hi. Please tell me if your phone is made in 2014. From what i see all phones made in 2014 must be flashed with another preloader. The simptoms you are described here seems that way. Waiting fro reply...

Yes it is a 2014 January version. But to be honest I was using a ROM with 2013 version preloader but never faced any problem, Today purposefully changed it to the new 121kb 2014 preloader and everything was fine till I used the v5 flashtool to flash the twrp and I think I selected the upgrade option in it and flashed the twrp> found the ROM and preloaders from needrom.com from the uploader xxxsadistxxx .It worked flawlessly and then after first booting I configured the wi-fi settings again turned it off and tried to install the custom recovery. Now completely helpless because the phone is not getting detected by VCOM drivers.

Look what you have to do!
Hi. The think was someting like this:
0. Unzip/Unrar those 2 archives.
1. First i install the .exe file from archive LenovoUsbDriver_autorun_1.0.10.zip. Reboot PC.
2. Plug the phone to your PC and new hardware wizard has appeared. Install the drivers by pressing automaticaly search the drivers.
3. Now power off the phone, and open the Device Manager, in Ports section.
4. With the Device Manager open, plug the phone this time powered off.
5. At this time in Device Manager/ Ports section, appeared for a second or two not in USB area something with.. MTK65...
6. Double Click fast on it because that will desapear very fast . If you missed the click for the first time unplug and replug the phone after about 5 seconds.
7. After you clicked on it all you have to do is update driver from MTK_USB__Driver_GOOOOODDD.rar archive, and voila you have drivers installed and now all you have to do is to flash you ROM.

1) Hi, thanks for the troubleshooting steps but for the 3rd and 4th step, the phone is always in a switched off mode only. It simply doesn't get turn on in any mode.
2) I am using Windows 8.1 OS and Lenovo Usb Driver1.0.10 and VCOM drivers are already installed in it after turning off the digital signature check in win 8x OS and now nothing is happening after clicking on install option of LenovoUsbDriver_autorun_1.0.10.exe Is it a problem or in other OS also it wont prompt to click next or something like in a regular driver installation.

Ok. Try this:
1. Open the back case of your phone.
1.1 Open the device manager on your PC.
2. You will find there an small red button.
3. Now plug your phone to your PC.
4. After you plugged the phone press the red button for 20 secconds.not optional
5. Release the button and see what is going on in your device manager.
6. Iff your preloader is messed up something should going on.
7. Should appear something like new hardware detected, that is the point when you update the drivers, and your phone will be detected by your PC
8. Try this and tell me if something goes wrong.

5. Release the button and see what is going on in your device manager.
6. Iff your preloader is messed up something should going on.
7. Should appear something like new hardware detected, that is the point when you update the drivers, and your phone will be detected by your PC
8. Try this and tell me if something goes wrong.

Hi thanks a lot stympy. I am glad that you were spending the time and effort to help me. I saw that red button trouble shooting post in your TWRP thread and luckily for me after clicking on different options in device manager while setting a complete format in sp flashtool the device suddenly got detected and format was done. After the format the device has lost its imei number, BT code and Wlan codes. That was going to be a hectic job to reinstall imei with imei repairing tools and usage of Hexa editor for BT and wi-fi codes just because some drivers were not getting installed properly.. But to my sheer luck I had a "Data' back up in TWRP with my previous version prerooted rom . I was not that confident to get a restore of imei , BT and wlan codes because it is just a 'data' back up not full ROM. I ticked the md5 checksum and voila after installing the back up 'Data' everything , absolutely every single code in my p780 got reinstalled automatically .LONG LIVE TWRP DEVELOPERS......... May be even after formatting the complete flash drive of the phone it still keeps the imei and other codes in factory mode. I am not sure. Now phone is in perfect condition and I am ready for another go. Stympy please create a 2.7.1 twrp for 2014 preloader p780 8gb. thanks again for all your help

WARRNING This are only for 8GB PHONES.
Here you are.
Try to flash with scatter files one by one till works.
Use only SP Flash Tool 5.
After flashing TWRP do not reboot the phone, start the phone with Power button Vol + and Vol - pressed. NOT OPTIONAL
Be carrefoul to select Download not Firmware Upgrade.

Hey Stympy, you seem to know quite a lot about this! I have the same problem with my p780 4GB. After flashing everything seemed ok, as I got a green circle in SPFlash tools. However now I am not able to boot anymore. When connecting my phone to my computer the red light goes on and Device Manager shows a new MTK USB Port. When pushing the red button it immediately disappears. Does not matter if I push it for 20 seconds, as soon as I let go its bak in device manager.
When trying to reflash using SPFlash, it seems to recognize my phone, but when trying to format or Upgrade or Download, the red bar only loads up to 141776 Bytes and stops. Sometimes I have to push the red button for the phone to get recognized.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
ps: CMIIT ID on the battery says 2013xxxxxxx so I guess its a 2013 model?

Fool me. I've tried to run CN on russian LiFE ROW with TWRP. You can laugh very loud.
1. unbricked with P780_S136_140306_Lang
cleared IMEI
2. IMEI recovered with Droid Tools
after reboting no gsm signal
3. NVRAM recovered from backup
No success.
SIM cards works fine on other mobile, 911 cal also work on this phone
now running on:
ROM: P780_S226_Life_XVIBE_by_Xakep
Baseband: P780.V23
Last idea is clone p780 (colleague has one) with IMEI change, mac address and sn. Now with which tool it'll be easier?

1. Full format
2. Download Rom P780_S136_140306_Lang
3. Change IMEI
And it works.

Remove the back cover and connect your phone with the pc through data cable and kept pressing the red button for 10 secs which is near the sd card slot and release it. It will vibrate and lit up after 2-3 secs then remove the cable and start it.

Prepare the rom to flash, then press firmware ugrade, plug your usb cable, keep pressed the red button for 20 secconds to reset preloader and tell us what is going on ?

Now, I am also having the same problem. I followed your instruction but persist the same error DRAM FAILED 4032 and also I dont have any nandroid backup. Whether it will be related to preloader issue ?

I'm having the same problem as well. I was using this tuto and all went fine because I got the big green circle of success from Flash tool. Then I unplugged my phone and it hasn't booted since. It was :crying: a 4GB international version with Jelly Bean 4.2.

If you have a 4032 dram problem you need to format whole drive using sp flash tool and install a fresh stock rom.

Hi Manek88,
Yup, I pressed and pressed the red button, once even for a full minute without a break but to no avail.
However and fortunately from another poster, stympy, I got the suggestion that it might be a driver problem. For the unfortunate user, please click on the embedded links for the steps it took me to get things sorted out.
I wish sincerely for the wary who landed here to be able to solve his or her issue with our trials and errors posted here. Thank you all.

Hi, I just wanted to leave a comment about how I unbricked my Chineese p780 4Gb. Maybe useful to somebody.
Flashed the wrong ROM, got the brick, the only sign of life was a red LED when connecting to USB. After the second flashing got the same DRAM_FAIL (4032) error. Finally, after finding the right ROM I got phone's screen blinking for a second, but still not loading and not functioning.
So, after some experiments I found out that fresh driver/tools versions do matter a lot and I managed to flash the same needed ROM with fresher tools.
Setup (can't post links, I downloaded these from lenovo-forums dot ru):
- driver SP_Flash_Tool_Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.1236.00
- SP_Flash_TOOLS v5.1352.01
- very nice light and functional ROM LiFe v0.7 with modified preloader
- alternative modem V51 S820

I installed a custom rom in my A311 and it is in boot loop now. I tried to flash the stock rom using YGDP tool but it stuck in entering download mode. The phone is not detecting in computer. Then i tried to flash the files through SP flash tool v5.1424.00. It detects the phone and started flashing but after some time it shows an error and stoped. Please give me a solution to flash the stock rom. I can not enter in to recovery mode also. The phone is in boot loop now. Please help me.

Install VCOM drivers , google usb drivers & mt65xx preloader drivers on your pc and then flash it using YDGP tools
Dude I've tried SP flash tools hundred times, but it does not work.
So follow my steps.
Install YGDP tools.
Click config and click "select CPB file"
Then select the firmware file which will be in .CPB format.
Wait for 5 mins because the software will verify the cpb file.
Now turn off your phone and REMOVE THE BATTERY.
Click "Start" button in YGDP tools
Then connect the phone to the computer. (Do not insert the battery !!!!!!)
You will see that the flashing will start. DO NOT DO ANYTHING till it finishes.
When it shows Done, remove the phone, insert the battery and turn on the phone. Easy..
And press thanks...

Thank you for the reply. I tried the same but in ygdp it shows the message 'Entering download mode' and nothing happens then. It waits for long time to connect the phone. It does not detect the connected phone. I have all the drivers installed in my computer. I have already done installing the stock rom before when i have boot loops. But now, when i connect the phone without battery it do not detect it. In device manager it shows 'PreLoader USB VCOM (Android)' in ports for about 5 seconds and it disappears. When i connect the phone with battery it directly goes to charging mode and shows battery charging image. I dont know what is happening, please help me, if any other solution?

Thanks friend shreyash.kanaujia.. It worked.. I tried it from my lap top :good:. It was a clue that you told me that you tried it from a new computer. I installed all in my desk top pc and was working on that one before. Just now i installed all drivers and everything in my lap and it worked. Thank you so much for that clue... Otherwise my phone will be a paper weight.. Thank you. And one more time, thanks for all others replied on this thread.
There is one more thing shreyash.kanaujia, if you are making a video, please include a word for this situation also. If the phone is not detecting in a computer any more, those ones have to try it from a new computer.

I recently switched to kitkat but after flashing I realised that the stock rom has too much bloatware and was practically very annoying to use (I'm looking at you, Norton and LeSave.
Now here's my problem:
I can't flash anything anymore using flashtool, it detects my phone, loads one file, but then goes down to 0bytes/0bps and it keeps hanging there untill I get an error. I tried to get a workaround by rooting and installing TWRP it but nothing works, it refuses to root.
Can anyone help me? I don't know what I did wrong and I'm afraid I messed up my partitions or something.
I just want to go back to Jellybean with a clean rom, no bloatware, preferrably rooted.

Hmmm... you need a custom firmware if you want something light !
Like life 0.7 !
If you want a custom made firmware fot the chinese base but without bloatware and rooted you can try Baralajbi firmware.

I am trying to flash Baralajbi firmware but it goes down to 0bytes/0bps and it keeps hanging there until I get an error.

Partitions are really messed up. In the recovery menu ("No command" screen with dead android ) I am trying the "apply update from sdcard" option , and it redirects me to the internal memory!
Chinese phone , tried P780_ROW_S228 rom but it is laggy and cellural reception is poor ! Gps malfunctioning also...

Hi. Try this. Retry to flash but this time when flash tool do nothing, open the back cover of your phone and keep the red button pressed for 20 seconds. When you release the button flashing process should start.
Tell me if not.
If not... Reinstall the drivers... and repeat the flashing process.

it didn t work.
The moment i press the reset (red) button ,the classic Flash Tools errors appears . The same as before
When you say "reinstall the drivers" what do you mean?
is it the proccess described here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/rom-lenovo-p780-pre-rooted-official-t2553725

Open "Device Manager" on your Windows PC.
Plug in your phone through the micro USB cable. A device will show up for a few seconds in "Device Manager". After that, it will disappear again!
Recognize the device tree where it appeared, and wait for it as you unplug and plug in your phone again (if bootloop, its automatic!)
Catch it with a right click as it appears! Then choose "Update Drivers" and pick the directory where you uncompressed the drivers you downloaded above. Its ok if after catching it the device disconnects. You only need to install the drivers now.
Assuming the drivers are correctly installed, run the Smart Phone Flash Tool.

Thanks for all your answers. I think its great that you are helping all those people,like me with our stubborn devices!
Tried what you proposed,but No, it didn t work either. Even tried installing the MTK drivers from scratch to an other "clean" laptop, on which i had never before connected my p780... No luck there either. Still Flash Tools refuse to do anything
