[Q] Asus Zenfone 5 - keeps charging even without a charger - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

...more like faking, to be more specific.
Hi,
I use Asus Zenfone 5 sincesince almost one year, and I really love it. But since I tried to charge it with the unknown charger I found in the rented car (phone went off right after), the LED indicator keeps lighting and phone acts like it's on charge, whenever it's plugged or not. Do you have any idea how to make it work normally? It's kinda annoying.
The phone is rooted. Recently I replace the screen by myself, cause I broke it. I cleaned the MicroUSB port with a toothpick, didn't help.

Any ideas guys?

[Q] Touchscreen problems while charging

Hi.
My x10 mini pro has terrible touchscreen issues while being on dc charger.
For example arranging icons is totally impossible and the upper panel keeps on showing up and stuff.
As a result the phone is almost unusable as long as it's on charger. But when charging via pc everything seems to be perfectly ok.
Anyone has the same problem? Or did I just get a defective device/charger?
Also, my battery lasts for only some 4-5 hrs. I've had the phone for 4 days now, so i'm still givin it quite a business, but 4 hours? Seriously..
Well I don't think that is normal , you better take it to where you purchased it and tell them about the whole thing that's not normal.
Thanks, the thing about the touch screen really *is* weird. How about the battery persistence?
Is your phone Android 1.6 or 2.1? I have the same problem before but the problem with my phone not only happens when it is being charged through charger but also while connected to USB port on a PC. I had it replaced with a new one. They said it is a hardware issue but others say it only happens when they upgraded from 1.6 to 2.1 so it is probably a 2.1 bug.
Well, to be honest, I dunno.. I've upgreded to 2.1 right away, so I don't remember if this appeared on 1.6 as well :\ But I don't wanna run on 1.6 anyways, so this doesn't bother me really
I had a similar problem on my mini pro but ONLY when using a charger other than the SE one that came with the phone; fine with PC USB charging or from the SE charger but goes crazy with false touchscreen presses or the TS failing to respond at all on one occasion until I figured out it was the non-SE charger. I think the issue may be that when using a stand-alone USB charger, the SE version supplies much more current than a standard USB port; presumably, when using a port on a PC the driver SW adjusts the charging current to compensate but non-SE chargers may not supply sufficient voltage under the charging draw the mini pro wants.
yeah~ just go for a ORIGINAL charger, don't buy a cheap one, buy a better one! it's the charger problem
My work-around
Hello all,
I'm experiencing the same problem and might have some new insights. I have tried multiple chargers including the Sony Ericsson charger that came with the phone. These are my findings:
- SE charger (wall socket 2 USB) (5V, 850mA) - The problem occurs, however I'm able to navigate
- Cheap Ebay charger (wall socket 2 USB) (5V, 1000mA) - The problem occurs, can't even get passed the lock screen
- Cheap charger (complete charger, no seperate USB cable needed) (5V, 550mA) - No problems
- Charging via USB of laptops and desktops with the USB cable that came with the phone (5V, 500mA) - No problems
Needless to say that with 500mA the charging takes very long.
BUT...here comes the kicker (and my solution):
- HTC ORIGINAL AC EU WALL Charger TC E250 USB ADAPTER (Wall socket 2 USB) (5V, 1000mA) - Charges fast and no problems.
So, in my case it seems as if the problem occurs while charging above 550mA and probably only with cheap chargers, including the SE one. The original HTC charger works like a charm.
I also found out that the touch controller is right next to where the micro USB connection is located. (google "Sony Xperia X10 Mini Pro Teardown and Analysis", I can't post links here...)
Apparently, bad chargers interfere. Hope this helps.
i do use original SE charger and don't even have another but what Neliscornelis posted might be useful THANKS!
I use original SE charger and haven't any problem
I get this problem to.. What i have to do is hold the lock button until the power off screen comes then cancel.. Also I have another problem when in calls.. the screen blacks out every time i try to end the call!! Does aqnyone else have this?
touchscreen problems
hi! i have similar problems!
that problems occur when connecting phone to my pc with original SE cable.
also tried with another original usb->microUsb SE cable, and problem stays...
no matter what charger I use, i always have same problems with touchscreen.
also I tested it with original htc charger and everything is same again, touch screen is registering multiple taps!
so, for now i tested this situations, and problem is always occurring:
-when connecting phone to pc with original SE cable
-when charging via wall outlet (tested with 2 original sony ericsson chargers)
-with original htc charger
only exception, when everything is working fine is when i plug phone in my car (via car lighter->usb adapter)
any solution?
thanks
I can confirm this bug. Original charger 1.6 and 2.1 all the same. The phone seems to be registering random touch events without any physical input.
Also, the proximity sensor doesn't seem to be working while charging. Combined with the false touches, making calls with the phone on charger isn't something i'd recommend.. :\

I am experiencing this one too. I think it's the static from our skin.
I tried putting my finger in front of the screen like less than half inch above the surface (but not touching the screen), and it activates an icon. I can do it all over, so I know its not just a delay of the screen from a previous touch.
The notification bar above also goes like its going crazy or like flickering.
The touchscreen i think is plastic and not glass thats why it's prone to static.(not sure). but whatever that screen is made of, there's some sort of static going on.
Hi i think that the unresponsive screen is due to the fact that its actually oversensitive. i mean the screen is sometimes activated by the sides of the phone and the botton of the screen where the xperia logo is. I am wondering if there is a file that changes the screen sensibility? dont you know how to do it? rooting the phone or something?
Other idea im having is to dissasemble the phone and put something under the black plastic where the xperia logo is to reduce the sensibility of that area. any ideas?
I have record a video watch it to see what i mean with oversensitive. And yes this is a new out of the box xperia x10 mini

Unrelated effects. It isn't static, it is capacitance. These phones have a capacitive touchscreen and your body contributes to the electrostatic field that is part of basic capacitor physics so that it is possible to affect the field to register a touch by merely moving a finger close without actually touching. This is normal. The problem with random touches (when no finger is even near) and the charger problem is not normal.

Dont get me wrong when i ask you this, but what do you think how much your battery like to be charged with that charger? How much you think it will last?
When i charged mine with original SE charger (5V, 850mA) it takes me less than 2hours to fully charge it.
When i charged with PC USB it takes it about 4-6hours.
So, im sticking to charging mine with PC USB..

Really? Mine lasts 2 days with data traffic on, wi-fi, gSynh, gTalk and gMail always on (cause of my work).
Did you followed guides here on forum regarding a battery?
There is a guide of deleting batterystat.bin file in your phone (must be rooted)
batterystat.bin is file that Helps Android read your battery. Its not quite accurate, so, after every reflash/custom you should fully charge your battery and delete that file.
Process that i do after every reflash/restore/messing around.. I fully charge my battery via PC and leave it for ~30 more minutes. I delete mentioned file while my phone is connected via USB to PC, reboot phone and remove USB while it boots, that way, your android will see fully charged battery and pass that info in baterystat.bin, after that, im not connecting my phone until battery is fully depleted.. that way your baterystat.bin will have max and min values for battery. But, its only me, no one needs to follow this..
Also, i read that battery life can improve over time (until batterystat.bin hits the right values)..
Edit: Download Advanced Task Killer from market, it will help you kill unwanted tasks, thus saving your battery life.
Do you think that changing the digitizer will fix the issue?? Its like $20-$30 on ebay. And this phone its extreamely easy to open and change the digitizer in home!!
Or could this be a problem within the phone itself? i mean everything works except for the touchscreen!!

guess i just used the wrong term. but i guess you get my point
but it never happened to my iPhone, and iPhones have capacitive touchscreens too

[Q] TF201 Only shows display when charged is attached!

Hi there,
After a few weird battery problems with my tf201 where it would only recharge at a drip-charge rate it finally came back to normal and started working again. Then the dock started acting up and wouldn't charge the tablet whist connected. After getting a new cable the problem still persisted so I am certain there's a real issue with the battery.
Now however the current issue is that it will only light up the screen for use whilst it's connected to the charger and power is flowing in! It's on full battery and will not show the screen after pressing the unlock button without the charger in. It literally flashes on every millisecond the chargers connected!
Any ideas of how I could fix this? Looks like i'll be sending it off to ASUS pretty soon unless somebody fancies buying it.

Were you ever able to fix this? I am having the EXACT same problem. I believe replacing the charging port might solve it.
Unfortunately not

Unfortunately not pal, I took it apart to try and replace the battery and ended up damaging it more.
I just ended up selling what I could for spare parts.
Good luck with yours dude.

[Q] Z2 died yesterday (out of the blue) - newbie here, any advice appreciated!

Hello,
I have an unrooted Z2. With around 30% battery left, I put it in the charging dock on my desktop yesterday evening. After 1 or 2 hours, I noticed that the phone is completely dead - no LEDs are blinking, no vibration, nothing. I tried pressing the power button alone, in combination with VolumeDown, VolumeUp, CameraButton, for more than 30 seconds each. I tried pressing down the tiny red button next to the SIM slot for awhile. Nothing. Phone is dead like a brick.
The only result I'm getting is when I plug it into my computer (ubuntu 14.10) - the LED bar on top is showing a constant red color in this case. Doing the button presses outlined above in this situation is also pointless.
I'm installing flashtool for Linux right now, the connection is pretty slow and it will take awhile. I hope to find out more afterwards. I'm a newbie when it comes to flashing sony phones, only found out now about flashtool. Any advice/tip on how to proceed, or if it even makes sense to dig into this, is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
are you perfectly sure your dock was connected properly and it hasn't discharged your phone? Maybe there was something wrong with it.
I had similar situation while I was low on battery and I was creating backup in recovery. Then I fell asleep and I have found my phone completely 'dead'. I connected it to the wall charger and nothing. No led, no nothing. I have even connected it to my pc and also nothing happened. Then I connected my Z2 to the wall charger and I left it like that. And after few hours, out of the blue, just turned itself on, just like my old Nokia n95.
I'm sorry it's not quite solution you looked for, but give it a try. Essential is to charge it via wall charger.
Good luck!
Do what @amon87 says OP. Charge it on a wall charger for a minimum of 3-4 hours; If that doesn't work, can you specify whether you were using a legitimate Sony dock or a third party dock? If it was third party, it could possibly have caused a hardware problem with your device via the magnetic charge pins (not extremely likely but not unheard of). Worst case scenario, send it back to Sony in the next few days. The warranty will cover it if you haven't caused water damage or anything like that.
Thanks for your replies! I also hoped for a sudden discharge, so I removed the device from the dock, plugged the USB in directly, and left it overnight - still nothing. Also, I have the original Sony dock, and have never exposed the device to any water.
Found out the model number in the meantime, it's D5303, if it's of any help. Flashtool does not see the device, unfortunately. I just found out that Sony describes an option to restore your device through the official PC companion app - I'll give that a try when I'm home, and will report back tomorrow.
Otherwise I guess my only option is the warranty.
There's also an option to quickly plug in and out charging wire to kick-start the battery. Unfortunatelly i have no further ideas to help you out.
Don't give your hopes up, try again. There's been a thread of a guy whose Z2 turned itself off and it seemed dead, but after a day or two it just turned on.
So, of course it's also not detected by Sony's "Bridge for Mac" app. Plugging it in and out brought also no results.
As the device is still covered by warranty, and I have yet not tampered with it, I've sent it in for repair! My pocket feels so empty now, i wonder how life is going to be without a phone. Apparently they need 5 - 10 working days.
Thanks for your kind support, guys!
Sorry to hear that. Hope it will get fixed!

Galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition black screen issue

I have this tablet, and i have twice had to open it, and disconnect the ribbon cable for the screen, and the battery. Then reconnect because the screen goes black but the buttons still light up. Is there a permanent solution for this issue? I've tried adding electrical tape to the area to help shore it up, but no dice. I really don't wanna open it every 3 weeks to get the screen back to life.
Elsewise the tablet has been pretty sweet, can't watch tv on it due to scammer/virus websites constantly coming up, but still a solid tablet.
Anyone, anyone Bueller? Right now the tablet will only charge, when powered off, and it takes 8+ hours to get a full charge, with a brand new cable, and the OEM charger. I would like to be able to use it plugged in and charging if I'm reading or surfing the net, and it needs to be charged, and I can't do that right now. If I have to buy a battery, or even another usb port for it, I can. Much cheaper than buying the new model, and this one will serve my purposes just fine.

component replacement in a rooted device

Hi, I'm new in this root stuff, soo I need some help.
A couple weeks ago my Moto X4 fell in sand, than I charged it and it caused a short circuit. I sent the phone to a repair assistent where the charging port was replaced 4 times and all they got was a little bit of charge when connected, and just seconds after, the phone stops charging. The phone screen looks like it still charging, but in the measurer connected to the charger, shows that's not.
Isn't that looking like a software issue? The phone has a unnoficial Lineage ROM installed, but it was working properly before the accident. There's any connection between this two factors? thx
