So I rooted my nexus 7, right? Well, being the idiot I am, I tried installing cyanogen mod by my self. I was watching a tutorial on youtube. But when I tried selecting the cyanogen mod zip using TWRP, it said it couldn't mount "/data, /system " etc...
So I tried hitting mount and then selecting that stuff: It wouldn't check it.
What am I doing wrong?

TWRP has a fix permission feature. You can try fix permissions option first, then wipe system/data/cache.

Thanks for the reply, but this doesn't work. I clicked fix permissions, and the log said it couldn't mount data. It said it completed successfully and wanted me to reboot. So I did. I then tried to install the zip (cyanogen), but it couldn't see any files still.
I recommend flashing recovery again via fastboot and then trying to flash cm again ☺

Maybe your SDCard has some problem. First backup your inportant data, and go to TWRP, try to click Wipe--Advanced Wipe--Fix File System for SDCard.

My HTC One S also has got this error in the past, Because I click "Factory Reset" in the fastboot mode. The reset option in fastboot need the official recovery, so if you're using TWRP, it may destroy your File System.......If fix file system don't work, you'll may have to install the official RUU again.

At this point would you still like to install Cyanogenmod or would you like to unroot your device like the thread title states? Let me know and I will try and help you out !

Take a look at this guide from the official CM Wiki, you can use TWRP instead of Clockworkmod to accomplish the procedure.

You can try connect your phone and PC, use TWRP to mount the partitions, then repair file system using Windows.(If the file system is broken, Windows will notify you to scan and fix it)
If this also can't solve the problem, you'll have to flash stock RUU (ROM Update Utility) again.

At this point a would recommend flashing the stock factory image for your Nexus 7 2013, you would not use an RUU as mentioned above as that is meant for HTC devices only. If you need a guide I would recommend taking a look at this guide.

Maybe flash factory image is the best solution

I have been using WugFresh's root tool to flashing and unroot it. After that I rerooted it, and it would still come up with the unable to mount error.
I just rooted and flashed cyanogen mod on my nexus 5 in like 5 minutes. Why doesn't this work on my nexus 7? I've tried everything. I've looked at every relevant thread as to why I can't mount anything. Nothing is working.

Hi,
I wanted to ask if mounting and unmounting system from CWM is safe. For example if I mount/unmount system and flash something and mount/unmount it back is it still safe and everything is fine?
Thanks.
It writes to system anyway, you can't have working phone without writing on system partition

I mean, it is not recommended by me, the zip provider, sorry my english was not clear...
so I rewrite it like this:
"sometime it is seen some devs recomending to mout system before flashing their provided zip"
I can provide proof if you want...
I have done this once as instructed by the zip provider without any issue..
i have no issues with it bro if the developer says than its ok, but as i said iv never had any issues.............

I'm thinking of flashing a zip, but the developer hasn't said anything about it and the normal flashing doesn't work (gives status 0 error) and I thought maybe this way is possible but I was unsure

I was trying to install BackTrack zip from DoomLord for see the program closer, but in CWM I get Status 0 error. Installation aborted.
I was flashing MeanBean to the newest version 3.09 from 3.07 i was currently on. I cleaned delvik and cache hell I even did the system and it sits in boot. So after many reflashed of 3.09 i finally decided to flash a different rom all together. That rom stays in boot. I'm S-on btw. I dont know what to do. I'm disabled and live alone so I need my phone. Thank you guys very much in advanced.
Sounds like your TWRP may need to be upgraded to the latest. You will have to go to the teamwin website and update using fastboot since you can't boot into the rom. If you have a nandroid backup you should try to restore that first.

Rename to PJ75IMG.zip and place in the root folder of your SDCARD, then boot to bootloader.

First, make sure you renamed it properly.
Then, make sure you're putting it in your external SD card, not your internal. If you don't have an external, then just place it in /sdcard

When i bring up the bootloader it update twrp and when i select recovery, it reboots to a black screen. How do i pull out the file so it doesnt reinstall twrp every time. It wont open twrp so i can remove the zip. Could that zip file be bad?
Do i need to select clear storage in bootloader?
Does it take time for twrp to load? I dont remember my phone doing this on the last twrp install.
Just remove the SDCARD from the back and you won't have it try to install it every time.
It doesn't take long for TWRP to load really. After the installation, boot into the Recovery through the bootloader.
If he is s-on I didn't think he could flash a recovery through the bootloader.
Update your drivers and try to install the recovery through fastboot.

can you adb into the phone from your PC ?
you can try to push a rom to /data/media
boot to recovery wait about 10 seconds and the open cmd on you pc and run adb
adb push Rom.zip /data/media
wait for it to copy (it takes a while)
reboot phone back to recovery
your rom.zip should be on the phone now
Flash
your home free
Does twrp run? You should still be able to install the Rom as long as your recovery program still works.

This worked in CWM anyway
Boot into recovery
from the pc (c:\fastboot) do the adb push filename.zip /data/media
wait for it to copy
then on the phone reboot recovery your rom should be in the root of the sdcard waiting for you to flash
I just tested it and it worked perfect ( of coarse I didn't format my sdcard so ymmv )

I've tried all of this with no luck at all. Main version is 1.26.502.10...tried installing Nandroid backups that other posted and keep getting an error when extracting the zip. I've adb pushed ROMs to the sdcard multiple times. They load for installation, everthing seems to work, but once I reboot, it hangs on the HTC screen.
I too deleted the system files so I can't get back in the phone. Tried CWM and TWRP and tried over and over to get it to work with no luck.
Tried installing CleanROM, Stock, and one other...no dice.

Sorry for the double post, but I was afraid this old thread I posted in originally may not get attention since the subject line is not quite on point.
My original post is here --
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42069716&postcount=49
I guess since I can still get to my bootloader and theoretically hit factory reset, I may not really be bricked. But I'd really love to find a fix other than factory reset. At the moment -- when I try to boot to the phone, it goes through the initial white HTC screen and then just stops on the Android eye screen (like this http://static1.businessinsider.com/...-is-what-the-boot-up-animation-looks-like.jpg )
Anyone??
Many many thanks from a dumbass newb.

I was thinking about that, but couldn't even figure out how to get a ROM onto my phone to flash.
Forgot I could use TWRP to force it to USB mount to my computer and get it on there like that. Just flashed Viper, but now after rebooting I'm stuck on the white HTC quietly brilliant splash screen (I don't even get to the red Droid eye screen where I was freezing before).

The ROM probably flashed fine. You have to pull the boot.img out of the zip and flash it via fast boot since you're not s-off:
Fasboot flash boot boot.img
Also, when you get everything going be sure to remember to make a backup. And you should do so before flashing anything or modifying system files.

Well...
I'm still screwed apparently.
Now I'm freezing on the HTC-quietly-brilliant white screen with the "This build is for development purposes only..." message beneath it whenever I try to do a regular reboot. So I'm basically still stuck with bootloader/TWRP only right now even after trying to flash a ROM.

You're trying to flash venom right? Download the newest venom. Open the zip with WinZip or other application. Pull out the boot IMG. Also, go download TWRP version 2.3.3.0 since newer builds have issues with aroma installers. Flash that recovery. Wipe data, cache, system. Flash venom ROM. Reboot to bootloader and in fastboot flash the boot IMG.
TWRP 2.3.3.0 here:

And now I'm really kind of nervous --
I just decided that this wasn't worth crying over since my phone wasn't all the customized anyway, so I just tried doing a factory reset and that failed, too.
If anyone wants to help walk me out of this mess (any outcome that leads to a usable phone would be brilliant), I would be all ears. It seems like I can't even get to recover now, so all I've got is the bootloader/USB connection to my PC to use fastboot there.
Many many thanks in advance!

I did have 2.5 on my phone. Probably too tired for this now, but I will try 2.3.3.0.

I was able to get 2.3.3.0 on my phone via fastboot and can run that version of the recovery now.
However, I'm not sure how to flash a ROM at this point since I cannot get it onto my phone.
(when I use TWRP to tell my phone to mount as USB storage, the SD card is no longer an option -- I cannot select it -- and Windows cannot see the phone as a drive anymore except to ask if I want to format it to FAT32... which I'm assuming I should not do)
Can I somehow get it done via the bootloader screen using fastboot ?or adb? to get the VIPERlte_2.2.0.zip ROM package to my phone?

No reason to be nervous. If your bootloader is unlocked you're fine. Follow steps 1-12 in this post to get a functional stock ROM on your phone. I realize the post doesn't sound like it relates to your issue, but the instructions should generally be viewed as "how to get your phone back to normal".

Thanks.
I'm going to try now, however the thing that really made me nervous was that when I tried to do a factory reset via TWRP last night (step 1 of the process you just suggested), I got a fail message from TWRP:
"Factory Reset Complete
Failed"
then down below several of the lines say
E:Unable to mount '/sdcard'
E:Unable to recreate android secure folder.
E:Unable to mount '/sdcard' during GUI startup.
E:Unable to mount when trying to read settings
E:Unable to mount internal storage
I'm surprised no one has suggested, ya know, for him to run an RUU.
Yeah. OP, you should do that

So yeah... whether stock or viperlte or whatever ROM, the issue I seem to be having is that I'm too stupid to figure out how to even get the ROM on my phone's SD card to flash.
Thanks for all the noobert-hand-holding

As I said, I'm all ears.
Should I run the RUU to get back to stock/relocked? Or is there something else out there that will allow me to stay unlocked?
You can RUU and then do the whole song and dance to get back to unlocked. If you go S-OFF you shouldn't have to worry about re-unlocking the bootloader.
You can either use an sdcard reader to put the RUU zip in the root of your SD as PJ53IMG.zip or put your phone into bootloader mode run
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once at the black HTC screen
Run
fastboot flash zip <nameofruu>.zip
It might error saying something about main version or if you have supercid it'll complain about that too. Just run the same command again
fastboot flash zip <nameofruu>.zip
And it should take and flash then entire thing and get you back to a working state.

No, OP, don't do that. I'm tired of reading "run an RUU" when it is not necessary. I posted a perfectly reasonable solution that would leave samstein66 with an unlocked bootloader, a very clean factory reset stock ROM, root, and custom recovery. Telling someone to run the RUU leaves them with a locked device which potentially still requires a factory reset to get as close to default settings as when it came from the factory. Now they get the joy of re-unlocking their bootloader, which for our non-htcdev-supported phone means sensitive processes that can mess up a device if not done carefully.

In TWRP, under the mount menu, are you able to use the Mount USB feature and see the internal and microsd storage on your computer?

No, I cannot select those. I can only select cache, data, etc. and when it tries to mount, my computer cannot recognize the drive as H: like it normally would when USB mounted. It does see that the device is trying to mount as H, but that's where I get the Windows message saying I need to format the drive to being able to recognize it. Since I wasn't sure what to do there, I played it safe and went with not formatting (since I didn't know exactly what would get formatted).
Hello XDA members,
I was hoping somebody would help me out, I'm fairly new when it comes to installing custom roms so I require your patience. I don't know how to install a custom rom onto my Bell Atrix HD MB886, everytime I try it says abortion failed, what can I do to fix this. I have wiped data and all that probably 5 times in the past week alone. I would like to know how to successfully install roms without errors. Both the times that I have done this I had my bootloader unlocked, and I had clockword recovery mod latest version 6.0.4.4. I bought an SD card today to help install the roms because otherwise I can't do it from my internal storage. I really hope somebody can help me out.
Regards,
Roger

Hi there. A failed abortion certainly seems like an issue... I guess I am not totally clear on the status here. You say that you had CWM. Do you still have it? Bootloader is still unlocked? What rom are you trying to install? Are you certain it's for the Bell version and not like the AT&T one? What is the exact error message?

No I don't have it atm as I just wiped the data/cache last night but will I already have CWM, I just need to unlock the bootloader and try again...I'm trying to install this one:
Android 4.4.2 KitKat Mokee Rom, and it says the version is a nightly. Yes I'm positive it's the Bell Version as I purchased it at a Bell Store and my carrier is Bell. The error message is "Installation Aborted." It begins installing, and then halfway through I get that error message. How do I fix this?
I figured you knew what phone you had. I was wondering if you had a rom built for the Bell version vs an ATT one. But since you are using a CM based rom, it obviously doesn't matter. Curious as to why you are bothering with relocking the bootloader? But I suggest to either try a different version of the rom, or to change your recovery to one of the Philz Touch versions as that's what some of the other users in that thread for the rom for your phone were using. You can find them here:

No I was bothering to unlock it again, not lock it. Where can I find different versions for the 4.4.2 Mokee Rom? I've tried using the Philz Touch version: Motorola Atrix HD One Click Philz recovery installer and when I tried it a couple of times it said it failed to install although I'm not sure why. I came across these images the other day but how do I use the .img files on my device, as I'm not sure to proceed from here once I have them downloaded.

I was curious as why you relocked it in the first place.
Where are you getting Mokee from that doesn't have a link to their Downloads?

Right on. Well, you should bookmark the thread here on XDA because that's typically where the action happens.

Okay so I'm trying it now and the program won't even open :/
Odd. I just downloaded it to test and I didn't have any issues. If you can't get the actual application / exe file to open, then just use the Main-Skip.bat. Does the same thing.
If it doesn't open still, make sure that you have your anti-virus off as sometimes those interfere with programs like this. Might also try as admin.

Okay I wasn't looking at the actual .exe sorry, I got it to work and all I installed the Philz One Touch Recovery from that program, just downloaded a different rom and all and then I select the apply update from external storage and when it gets to the verifying update package, it gave me the same error message as yesterday, Installation Aborted.
So again, how do I fix this, am I doing something wrong? Why won't my custom rom install?

I don't think that is the most updated version. What's the version number of the recovery that was installed? It should be listed on the main page of it when you boot there. I was suggesting to use one of the new ones. It might have something to do with the SELinux support that KK roms need. You just have to put the img file in the tools folder and rename the new one the same. But here's no other error that shows up other than Installation Aborted? I was thinking usually it would have an error code or some other message.Have you checked the md5 of the rom zip to make sure it's not corrupted (if the dev provided it)?

Use one of the new versions of that program or to use the latest CWM which I have been. Okay I really don't know how to do that and where to move it to, how do I do such a thing? No it just says Installation Aborted... How would I do that? And yes I downloaded the new rom directly from his site.

Look in the tools folder of the zip you downloaded. Download the newest Philz Touch img from the other link from earlier. Rename it to replace the one in the tools folder. Redo the recovery install. But you didn't say what version you already have.

If you didn't, it should be under Mounts and Storage > Format /system of something of that sort.

Pop the battery out for a bit, then pop it back in and hold Volume Down while powering up. Should get you into fastboot where you can skip to the recovery.

Oh yea, forgot you have to undo the screws on the bottom. So you scroll down to hit recovery and use the Power button to select and it doesn't do anything? That's odd.. Try and reflash the recovery since you can still get to fastboot. If that doesn't work, you're not totally screwed since you can still get to fastboot, that means you should be able to restore it to stock and start over.
Alternatively, if you have fastboot set up, you could make sure that philz touch is in the fastboot folder and use this command:
fastboot boot recovery nameofphilztouchfile.img
If you don't have fastboot, then just grab this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 , drop the recovery img in that folder and open the CMD prompt on your computer and change directories to it and run the command.
