[Q] Anyone else experience touchscreen not registering touches? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Device: S6 Edge Gold International Version (Bought in Hong Kong) [64GB]
Model number: SM-G9250
Android version: 5.0.2
Build number: LRX22G.G9250ZTU1AOD5
Stock (not rooted)
1. Bought the phone 9 days ago
2. Everything working just fine until a few hours ago.
3. All of a sudden, my touches started to not register on the first try.
4. It would take anywhere between 1 (if i'm lucky) to 7 tries before my touch is recognized. (average 3-4 tries)
5. I turned on "Show touches" and "Show pointer location" under the Developer options and it confirms point 4 above
6. I did a hard reboot (Power, Volume UP, and Home), cleared cache and reset to factory settings and this did not fix the problem.
7. I searched through forums and could not find anything.
8. I'm thinking this should probably be a faulty hardware issue

Yes, I sent it back for repair for the same reason. I already post this issue.
First it was working perfectly fine, but in a few hours of usage, the touch screen started to be less and less responsive, sometime i had to press 2 or 3 time to get it work. And after a few hours, the touch screen start to stop working for few minutes and then been again responsive for a few minutes. At the end of the day, no more response. I try to clear cache and reset to factory settings and this did not fix the problem....

Hope I don't have to send mine back. Bought a DBrand skin lol.
I will try this and get back to you. Initially it seems good but my touch issues are very intermittent.

Well things seem to have improved a ton since I've done this. I'm gonna give it 24 more hours before I call it good and add my Zagg replacement back on.
I took it off because I thought it was the cause for my head ache.
Thanks for the tip dude. If all is well I will have no more things to complain about.

Well put the screen protector back on and everything seems fine. I'm gonna call it a win. Thanks JFK. Great tip.

Samsung Galaxy S II Random Shutdowns

Hi, I've had my SGS2 for around 3 weeks now, and in that period I have had 2 random shut downs.
The first time it happened I was using the original firmware out of the box. The second time it happened (yesterday) I was using the latest firmware via Kies.
The phone is unlocked and unbranded from buymobilephones.net (UK), and I'm on the T-Mobile UK network.
The phone is NOT rooted and I am not overclocking.
Is my phone faulty or is this a software problem? Baring in mind this has only happened twice in the past 3 weeks.
backup data and factory reset would be my first step.
Followed by a return to the store .

Cheers, just did a factory reset. Should I ring Samsung to fix the phone (comes with 12 month warranty) or return it to the online retailer? Not sure what to do.
Just send it off to sammy

... 2 shut downs in 3 weeks?
It's not faulty.
Your contract is with the retailer not Samsung .
I would see if phone restarts again before returning it .
But would inform the retailer of the problem to be within 28 days .

I've owned several phones over the past 15 years and I've never had such problems before, even with my previous Android the Orange San Francisco. Seriously, if I have a £500 phone I don't expect it to shut down randomly even it it's only twice in 3 weeks. I've missed some important calls and texts because my phone has shut down without me knowing.

I think you mean two weeks ago.....
If it continues, you may have a faulty one.
Well I have the same issue, it's in my pocket, next thing when I push the power button the screen just stays black.
Have to hold down the power button to drop it and then restart it.
Sooo, I had this happen once when it was on the table which took the phone in my pocket out the mix.
In the end I tried the battery fix with some geckostrip (that rubber easy removable strip you use on the back of phones to stop them sliding)
I put the strip on the underside (opposite of the connections) and wrapped it around the back (facing the cover).
This makes for a VERY tight snug fit in the unit.
It has now been 2 weeks without one single shutdown...so as much as I thought "this must be software or hardware related", it looks like it very well may be "hardware related" on the battery front.
For those who still have this issue try what I did and let us know your findings.
Cheers
Sheldon
Update: Okay never mind on the battery thing, phone lasted 2 weeks but just blacked out again.....
I had the same problem for many months but it stopped after I uninstallrd dolphin hd browser. No idea if coincidence or not but read a few others with sgs2 and dolphin installed had same problem. Do you by chance have it installed?

I've actually experienced problems similar to this twice now with my SII.
First time was straight out of the box. I charged it up and then took it travelling with me. I kept taking it out of my pocket to find out it had turned off. I thought it was my fault with the power button being in a bit of a silly place. But then it turned off whilst it was lying on my desk or in my hand whilst I was using it. Whenever it turned back on again the battery usage history showed a big sudden drop (10+%) in battery level and then it would increase slowly for a while after. Spoke to O2-UK and they got me to do a software reset and then a hardware reset when it reoccurred, which didn't fix the problem either. They then did a next day replacement.
After I got the most recent update to TW I started to experience times when I'd come to unlock my phone but the screen would stay black. It would, however, give haptic feedback when I pressed the power button but not respond to touch. I recently did a software reset of my phone due to another problem (it kept thinking it was docking this time - but stopped on the day I took it into the O2 Shop) and haven't experienced this since.
For so expensive device I expect only 2 "legal" reasons to shut down while running stock ROM with no additional software or changed hardware (i.e. battery):
1. Battery went completly empty (or as empty as power saving settings allow)
2. I forced it to shut down via power button
If it shuts down on its own under this conditions, first doubt is faulty hardware.
And then it should be quickly replaced by provider/shop/wherever it came from.
Everything else might raise doubt in faulty piece of additional software.
Have had similar issues. Uninstalled the go weather app / widget and nothing since. Might just be a coincidence though.

So I've read about this "sleep of death" that sounds like the same thing as what this is.
It appears to affect a wide margin of Samsung devices over time.
One post suggested it was because WIFI activates while the screen is off and the device is in sleep mode, thus blaming the like of apps such as Juice Defender and WIFI managment built into gingerbread.
I have uninstalled gingerbread, enabled watchdog to monitor utilization (out of curiosity) and set the WIFI sleep mode to NEVER.
One day down without a issue, I'll see what happens over the next few weeks.

I heard that frequent shutdown/reboots happens with 2.3.6 release.
If you got it, better go back to 2.3.5 or earlier. Iit worked for me.
I have 2.3.4 and i get these problems once a month or so.
Wy OH has the same firmware but she gets a random shutdown once a week. We both have the 1900 Anker battery (not stock one) - weird. I am going to try a different ROm and see if it makes a difference.
same issue but after i have deleted à few apps the issue was gone...?

[Q] Faulty Galaxy tab 10.1?

Just received my 16gb Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Amazon, really disappointed on it due to constant crash, freeze, lag...etc
ok.. open the package, boot it up, straight feeling sluggish between screen and apps already, then play around with it, install few apps, but it randomly close the apps or just froze without any reason and i have to hard power switch off to reboot.
Thinking it might incompatible apps, but apparently not.. it randomly freeze when open "setting", "google maps", "Quick Office HD"...
I done wipe/factory reset but still the same...
So.. guys think it is hardware related or software related? will restore 3.1 fix this issue? If possible, where do i get the vanila stock 3.1 honeycomb firmware and will it void warranty if i install it via say.. Odin?
I'm in Australia, so sending it back to US for warranty will be quite a pain... any help will be appreciated~
Thanks
by freeze do you mean the touch screen is unresponsive? the same thing started happening to mine today. i called amazon and am getting a replacement for free just call them they will send one out before you ship the one you have. I called today and am getting mine tomorrow but im worried because this is the second tab i had to get replaced.
I am waiting for my SGT from amazon to arrive now
hope it would be good unit
I am from Iraq it is so much difficult to return it to US
It should of shipped with 3.1 mate

This happens to me as well with my SGT. I notice the keyboard will "stop responding" while typing over GTalk or something. Also the navigation keys will become unresponsive while browsing. A lock/unlock of the device seems to fix it.
A friend of mine was researching this, and on other forums people are complaining of the same thing, and apparently it's a part software, part hardware issue. I guess the sensors in the device loose track of where your tapping on the screen. I'm to try a factory reset and see what happens.

I'm sure you could find it in the development section, not sure if it will void the warranty though. I'm tempted to try this as well if the factory reset will not work.
Strange. I received my 32GB from Amazon on Monday and haven't had any issues at all. Sounds like you got a lemon.
Well, fwiw, I had a GT 10.1 and returned it for 2 reasons:
1) Screen has a dancing/moving part of the panel (towards the middle), where even when OFF, the LCD panel would reflect light in various sheens -- kind of like a think layer of oil on top of water. Slightly depressing the panel would get it to shift and move, and sometimes disappear; only to reappear.
2) Copied 350+MB of .jpegs onto the device, and it took 5.5 hours (yes, hours), to copy the data.
So, I returned the unit. In all fairness, I've got a friend who has a xoom, and had him try copying the data, and got the same results... so #2 is probably a Honeycomb bug, but #1 is definitely a GT defect. I'm now awaiting a Toshiba Thrive

5 hours? I'm going to test that right now.
So you guys think i should return it? It cost $55 send from Australia to US and another $55 send from US forwarder to me... or should i try to flash stock 3.1 first? But.. where do i get 3.1 stock firmware? Any links will be much appreciated.

You can try this post in the development section. I've only had my Tab for a few days so I haven't had time to tinker with it much. I'm going to try returning mine first for a replacement. If that doesn't do the trick I may try a reload from the link here:

I bought the 16gb white version at Best Buy union square on June 12th, and returned it for the same 1) problem on the screen. The second one seemed to be ok, until the second day of use I saw the "oil" mark appearing and moving depending on where I holded/pressed the tab on the back.
But know I have to say the problem doesn't exist anymore. I think it is because of the packaging and the fact the tab stayed a lot of time in the same position before it arrives to your hands. I recommend use it for a week and see if the problem persists.
or they manufactured them in china...
people also report dust in their tabs, which is pretty much proof of cheap manufacturing.
I haven't had any issues.
Anybody figured out a real solution? It looks like a reccuring problem through forums. I got mine from Amazon forwaded to Qatar and basically it is unusable. Starts once every10 attempts...freezes after 10-30 seconds.
i have two and i have no issues with either one.
the first one i got was locked - the second is unlocked
i see no performance difference between the two
and both were purchased from amazon.
I bought mine in bestbuy and I still w/o problems... It was locked but nothing to worry using odin to 3.01>root>custom rom... it seem that ther is some galaxy tab 10.1 lemon editions

[Q] Touchscreen issues after hitting the power button

Problem is stated in the thread name.
Sometimes (1 out of 10-20), after hitting the power button, I can't unlock my phone, because touchscreen respond to touches in a very weird way. I'm trying to pull out the ring (HTC default screen locker), but it just quickly jumping all over the screen, even though I'm just holding my finger on it, not moving. Luckily sometimes it unlocks, but I can't do anything because of this issue. Solution is extremely simple - double hit the power button, yes, that simple. Anyway, this crap is very annoying.
Any help?
Stock ROM 1.20.401.8, GSM version, no root.

This is an issue with several CDMA models, on any rom, and regardless of if you're rooted or not. I actually returned my phone because of this problem, only to get it again a day later.
I believe it's a multitouch issue, i'm not sure why this happens though.
By chance do you have a release phone? (Being right when it came out?)

Not sure why this is happening, I was thinking it was just an isolated release model case. Strange that it's happening across both models though.

Galaxy S2 Power Button Issue

So I searched the forum for a bit and saw some people have similar issues but not the exact issue that I have. For some reason, my phone's power button only turns on the phone. After the phone is on, it doesn't work anymore. (i.e. will not put the phone into the lock state nor wake up the phone) The only way for me to wake up the phone is to plug it into the charger which will activate the lock screen.
Some additional information:
I am currently running Stock 4.0.3 ICS unrooted.
I have tried a factory reset on the phone.
I have also tried the *2767*3855# factory format code which is supposed to reinstall the phone firmware.
I was using the Go Launcher/Go Locker app as my default home screen and lock screen but this is still happening even after a factory reset back to TouchWiz.
This problem occurred after turning my phone back on this morning after it died due to running out of battery.
If anyone knows what I should do or can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

So you got a replacement phone, and it's doing the same thing? If so , maybe its an app you are downloading. I never heard of this problem, and it's odd that it would happen to you 2 times in a row, if that's the case

Couldn't have said it better. I also haven't had any problems with my phone (yet). By the way, my aunt just got a Note 5 and has had countless problems with it (even more than what people have reported here). First, her phone would lock up completely randomly. Then, she got a replacement and had issues with the speakers on her phone. The problems just kept coming. She now has switched to this phone and is way happier with it.

That is not encouraging, considering these two phones are essentially exactly the same device lol.
Thanks for the suggestion on it being on of my apps......I Uninstalled "easy unrar, unzip & zip" problem seems to have gone away.....it was either that or dropbox I Uninstalled both at the same time and haven't had the problem, gonna give it another day or 2 without a reboot and attribute it to that app....
Back to the drawing board the issue just happened to come back right after that post. ......I guess I'll deal with the occasional restart and hopefully when we finally get 6.0 the problem won't come back
Having the exact same issue with my new Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge+ (received phone Dec 29) . And as the OP states, a restart temporarily fixes the issue. In addition, this is for sure a software related problem because I can rotate the phone on it's side but still will be unable to select the menu in top left corner. Rotate back vertical, not able to select menu in top left corner but can select the menu in top right corner (if there is one for the app). Sometimes I have been able to close the app, reopen and the problem is temporarily fixed.
I'm surprised this issue hasn't happened to too many other people......especially since it happened in both phones Verizon has given me, I would assume it's a wide range issue for a lot of users
Wow that's strange nothing wrong with mine except this crappy battery life. A 3700mah battery like the droid turbo 2 should be in order
Having the same issue here for a few weeks now. A reboot fixes it temporarily. I have been trying to pinpoint an app but no luck yet. It seems random.
