[ROM][Official] CyanogenMod 12.1 Nightlies for the Verizon Galaxy S4 (jfltevzw) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

IMPORTANT INFO:
-You must be on the VRUAMDK bootloader or you aren't going to be able to use this ROM. I'm sorry =(
(run this in a terminal to find out: getprop ro.bootloader )
-We have de-unified the Galaxy S4 line. This is for the Verizon variant (SCH-I545) only
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 5.1.x (Lollipop), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit our Gerrit Code Review. Your changelog is whatever was merged into gerrit.

We have de-unified the Galaxy S4 line. Too many issues with having them all in one and a maintainer's nightmare. Look for jfltevzw builds now as opposed to the jflte builds you previously used.

I guess I'll post first.
Up and running on 4/20 (flashed a few hours ago). So far I have noticed:
As soon as you open the stock messaging app a notification appears saying a message could not be sent. Choosing "Discard" from the menu of the unsent message does not discard it.
The compass is not working properly. Orientation is slow to respond and is off by 180 degrees. This only happens when stationary. When viewing the sensors using Advanced Sensor Tester the magnetic sensor is showing some changes, the gyroscope sensor shows very little changes, and the orientation sensor shows one line out of three showing very little change. Don't know if it means anything.
Not sure if I am using the correct term here, but, Adaptive brightness does not seem to be responding well and overall the lower brightness setting of the display seem to be too dark. In an outdoor environment any brightness setting below 50% is pretty much unusable and the brightness when in direct light doesn't increase enough. (May not have described that correctly).
BT seems good with a Jabra earpiece. I have yet to test it with something like music play over Ford's Sync and vehicle BT.
Not sure if it is an Android 5.1 issue or not but I have had to reinstall several third party apps since going to CM12.1. Opening them results in a force close. If I navigate to the APK using root explorer, selecting it, and choosing install (to reinstall it) the app works correctly afterwards.
So far everything else seems to be working.
Logcat attached:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/khdo1uicmj8l7j8/Log_2015-04-20_14-07-16.txt?dl=0

ran the 4/18 and 4/19 build. BT works, connects but won't stream anything. First my "Music" app was force closing every time it tried to play, it kept trying so it was a loop of force closes from it. I disabled the Music app, i then started getting bluetooth share has forced closed errors.
im flashing the 4/20 build but won't be able to test bluetooth playback to my car until tomorrow.
i also have the damn #in my status bar all day long. can't get rid of it, have no idea what its doing up there. even stays through reboots.

Ok, I have come across another issue. I disconnected my Jabra BT earpiece earlier. Now it will not reconnect. BT has turned off and will not turn back on. Cycling airplane mode does not help.

Ok, a reboot seems to have straightened BT out for now. It is on and I can connect my earpiece.

BT was not playing nicely with my car, tried rebooting with no change. BT would connect, but I would get a "Bluetooth share has stopped" message

yup, i didn't think it would be any better but was worth on a shot. can tell you on the 4/20 build it connects to my car (with a little convincing) but only recognizes the hands free profile. won't push any audio across. also turning on bluetooth is super buggy, it never really turns on and just switches the slider back to off.
I've heard euroskank builds have it working but i really dont want to full wipe my device again for the 3rd time in a week lol. i signed up for a motorola credit account, waiting for the account number to come in the mail and then ordering my 64GB nexus 6. my nano sim card came yesterday which I know verizon will give me a hard time activating. I also have a sim card cutter, some cases and a screen protector coming tomorrow so either way this is happening.

I was on skank's 12.1 build until 4.17 version and BT did not stream in my car at all. It would connect, then i'd go to play music and DoubleTwist would just keep skipping to the next song without playing any audio. Then BT would be wierd and wouldnt connect/reconnect after that until a reboot.
So far I'm seeing the same funcionality on this ROM so it seems like something with the 12.1 base to me

MMS was the easy fix. I made a few APN edits and it has worked ever since. What I did is in either the official thread or euroskanks thread. BT they will eventually fix. The compass, as we all know all too well, is a whole different story.

Yea I followed your APN edits awhile back, still was hit or miss. the MMS would eventually come in but wasn't 100%. great roms though, i'm really liking lollipop

Hello,
Thanks for you working on this ROM. My issue is I can't install it.
So I was running JFLTE-GPE 5.0.1 for a while now by Danvdh. I noticed that at one point the Model Number changed to the GPE and device was jltegpe (or something like that). It didn't bother anything until I tried to install this ROM when I received an error in TWRP that I can't install the ROM because it is only for the jfltevzw. Does anyone know how to fix this issue. I am now running Hyperdrive and build.prop is back to jfltevzw but I am still getting the same error message in TWRP.
I am on the Verizon model of the S4 running MDK, loki'ed the bootloader, and installed TWRP.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I was thinking about that but since they are only nightlies and not everything is working, I'll wait.

well its been fun boys..
just got back from best buy with my unbranded nexus 6.. the GS4 was a great phone and a blast to use but these roms and their problems were driving me insane. enjoy the development, i'll probably keep an eye on whats going on. if anyone has a friend looking for an MDK bootloader GS4 on verizon let me know lol

another one bites the dust - first rajones19 and now you. I might follow soon. Too bad considering the jfltexx variant has no issues.
I am test running a Nexus 6. Next weekend is the final return date. It is big but I am getting used to it. Let's see if I want to keep it.
My decision will also depend on Google's wireless network announcement. If it sounds good, I will return this Nexus 6 and buy one from the play store and leave Verizon.

I've talked jumpin ship before but I'll probably hang on till the bitter lonely end. I'm just hardheaded like that. [emoji14]
Seriously though, if I want decent coverage across my work area (10K sq miles in eastern AZ and western NM) Big Red is the only real choice. Who knows, maybe when I do decide on a new device it will be rootable and possibly even exploited.

well its time to move on, i really love the GS4 even more than my galaxy nexus but its been 2 years. I had this GS4 since launch date, actually had it 3 days early. she served me well and i honestly could have gone a little longer with it but I got tired of dealing with flashing stock roms on my phone just for certain key things not to work right. Got tired of having to explain to people when something didn't work it was because of custom software. Plus looking at my GS4 it just feels small now. Honestly would have preferred a 5.5inch phone but I dont see this thing being a problem once i get use to it. I'll probably keep the GS4 around as a mess around device so I'll probably still flash some roms with it. Don't think there is much of a demand in the resale space for a 2 year old phone like this. I've learned my lesson though, and I should have learned it from having a galaxy nexus but from now on out I'll only be using nexus devices.
I debated switching to T-Mobile and honestly I'm still very interested in doing so. Like others, coverage is a big concern and even though here in Southern PA (right outside of Philly) I get great T-Mobile coverage, I'm still worried about the one time to go somewhere that has 0 coverage. I drive back and forth to Long Island, NY where I'm originally from every few weeks and T-Mobile coverage is outstanding that entire trip so that would be nice. If I was still on the island I would switch in a heartbeat. Being in PA now, 75% of this state is a blackhole for T-Mobile coverage which very much worries me, even though I never really go that far. Maybe by the end of the year I might make the switch but for now I'm sticking with big red, unfortunately.

[Q] 4.2.2 WIFI tethering workaround?

I love the CM 10.1 build of 4.2.2. It is my dream phone right now. The problem is that no WIFI tethering works on it as of yet. If anyone has anything working I'd love to be proven wrong. This is a show-stopper for me. I can't use bluetooth because my laptop doesn't have bluetooth.
I tried every tethering app out there. Barnacle was the best in that it reported the errors it was seeing instead of just refusing to work.
Anyway, I am thinking of working around the problem by keeping a ROM stored as a TWRP backup that I can restore when I need tethering. I don't need tethering on a moment's notice.
I would like the tethering ROM as slim as possible. I haven't tried any yet. Would a restore be any faster with a slim ROM?
Can someone suggest what ROM I should use that has a small footprint and can restore quickly? I'm thinking that I won't have any apps and no account logged in. If I'm tethering I will be using the other device for email etc. And I'm sure the phone will work no matter what I'm running.
Can anyone suggest a better workaround than this?
I pretty much tether all day with my jellybam install. It has been a rock solid performer on my note and has kept me from having the itch to try any of the 4.2.1 ROMs.
There is supposed to be a new version released tomorrow, but quite frankly , I don't know whether I'll bother as the current version is exceptionally stable ( with flaps kernel )...
I'm sure with cm 10.1 going nightly, they'll have tethering fixed shortly. Its a pretty important feature for many of us.

Sounds like a bad download...Did you download straight to your phone? While I've never had this issue, I have heard that some prefer to download to their computers and transfer the zip to their phones..
You might be right. I did download it to my PC and copy over the zip. However, I had trouble copying and I had to copy a second time. So, I'll try again.
I did a fresh download, copied, wiped, flashed, and it didn't work. Apparently bam won't run on my phone.
...and your using the latest version of twrp?
Yes. I checked. I might be doing something wrong but I doubt it. I'm guessing there is a bug somewhere that rarely shows up. Until the source code is available these custom roms are somewhat a shot in the dark.
I'm just going to go back to my ICS backup when i need tethering. I guess I started this thread with the hope that someone would have a workaround. I really like 4.2.2 and I've decided to live with this. Maybe it will be fixed soon?
Thanks for your help.
The only tethering app that seems to work is "Open Garden." It's in the Play Store but you'll have to side-load it if on AT&T.

How do you keep AT&T from seeing that you're tethering?

I don't know who you are replying to, but I tethered all the time with ATT when using ICS. I didn't know they were trying to block it.
For a while they were changing people's plans to a tethering plan if AT&T caught them tethering. I got a warning email myself.

I know that Verizon has folded tethering into the normal data plans. They make it sound like a benefit but they're raising the overall price so they are really forcing you to buy tethering. I thought ATT and the others were going the same way.
I assume they realized they couldn't enforce it any other way.

I've been to their home page a million times because everyone said you could get the apk there. I was going crazy because all I ever saw was a big orange button to download a version for windows. I had just now typed a reply to you that said you were crazy and then it hit me. You meant to go there on the phone! I'd only been there from my laptop.
Thanks, I'll give it a try now.
-- later --
As I feared, open garden is bluetooth only.
I was researching the hotspot issue that only a few users have been having and found that it is inherent to android 4.1.2 and newer. What I found out:
"Throughout the previous iterations of Android (<4.1.2), Android has not identified for the carriers which data is for tethering, and which is not.
Android 4.1.2 introduced that ability (and requirement) for Android devices to properly flag when data is for tethering purposes. This is the first time this has been used in a vanilla release of Android...
For everyone frustrated by this update to Android: Android respecting a carrier's request to know if data is for a tethered device IS NOT A BUG. IT IS A FEATURE. It's not a feature for users like you and me, it's a feature for manufacturers like Samsung and HTC, so they can in turn build devices that carriers can have more control over.
So, to be clear, THIS IS NOT A BUG. Google INTENDED to respect carrier tethering rules. The only way to circumvent this is to either get a plan from your carrier that allows tethering, revert to a build of Android of 4.1.1 or earlier (I used wugfresh NRT tools, google it, they're amazing and simple: FOR NEXUS DEVICES ONLY, SORRY), or for a developer to find and KILL THE ****ING ABILITY FOR ANDROID TO TAG DATA AS TETHERING DATA and release that to the public; either by providing an modded Android image, or as an app (much less likely to work unless you're rooted)."
Copied from a past on another forum, and apparently I can't post a link to it.
Even though I clicked on Thanks, I'd like to thank you again for that clear explanation. I'm sure it won't take long for that to be hacked.
i think the next nightly may fix it
Next to fix on next Nightly

I sent JamieD a message about it a few days ago. I'm not sure if all developers were aware with source of the problem. Its especially hard when only some users report having an issue. Hopefully they get it working soon.

A Message From the Creator of Rootbox (as per request)

Here is a message from Bajee Baskararasa the creator of Rootbox ROM on Google+:
"Bajee Baskararasa - 23 minutes ago
Hey guys I know I've gone missing from G+ and XDA but I've been extremely busy with work these past few days. Unfortunately I won't be able to invest any time for RootBox for at least a week or two. I planned to get 4.3 builds rolling by this week or so but my situation clearly didn't allow that to happen. I'll try my best to set aside time for RootBox but since I got this new job it'll take some time to adjust myself and get a proper schedule. Another factor that will eventually impact my time is University starting in about 3 weeks.*So enjoy stable V4.2 build for now (which I'm running as well) or you can *always try out other roms who released Android 4.3, until then enjoy the summer and the good weather! (wherever you are)
Post this message in your device's thread. Thanks +Myles Nystrom*in advance since you will eventually post this message in almost all the threads "
I think this says it all....enjoy the summer and enjoy V4.2

On the 4.2 build, I could intermittently get the data to work by messing with settings in the network settings. I just turned LTE off/on a few times, then turned data off/on a few times, and also would cycle airplane mode. After doing these things randomly, I eventually got data to turn on, but it doesn't stick. If you turn data off or reboot, it back to not functioning and I have to try getting it to work again. It's very strange.
JamesPumaEnjoi, do you maintain this device at all? if not, do you know who to direct this problem to? The data worked fine on the 7/3 nightly, but hasn't worked correctly since that. I've seen a few posts on G+ Rootbox community about it, but they get very few responses.
I wish I knew a dev that could have a looksee at it. Bajee is maintaining this for like 20 devices, with a few maintainers for their specific device. I mean, I emailed Bajee directly about it lol, but it probably landed in his "waa waa waa! This is broke!" mailbox.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Yeah, I'm not sure why no one has fixed it yet. It would be one thing if the problem was trivial, but data is a pretty important thing on a smartphone. I'm pretty sure it's one of the only roms that has this problem. It also happens to be the only rom I want on my phone! Lol! I've even gone as far as making a build box and attempting builds myself, but still haven't had luck getting things to work.
Someone else I asked to look at it said it must be the drivers. It's stuff pulled from three different ROMs that do work on our device. I might start building and putting stuff together like Frankenstein
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
yeah, I just don't know enough at this point to pinpoint the cause of the problem. I wish I knew more.

Well, only 1 official rootbox build for verizon in the last month and a half (including 2 "stable" builds) has had working data. I don't know how it can be considered stable with data problems, but maybe that's just me. I'm not knocking Bajee or anything, since he has a lot on his plate... it's just a little frustrating is all since that's the only issue I've seen on the builds and it hasn't been addressed.
If any there's any dev that has any ideas on how to get data working properly, I know there's a few of us who would greatly appreciate it. I've searched all over for details on how to fix no data, but had no luck in finding a solution (tried porting the rom, swapping lib files from working roms, building my own build)... I've also got a logcat of the data not working, then turning on for about 3-4 secs and turning back off, if there's someone knows how to interpret them.
Something to do with the RIL?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4
I tried looking into any RIL files from the 7/3 (working) and 7/7 (next nightly stopped working) releases to see if that might be it, but I don't know enough to determine if it was a problem. I also checked the changelogs between those releases on rootbox(dot)basketbuild(dot)com to see if there were any specific changes that might have affected the verizon s4. There were 2 commits that I'm not exactly sure how they affected things:
7/4: "jf: revert ril changes"
7/6: "jf: bring back samsung ril. problems with slow data on certain modem"
I'm definitely an amateur when it comes to dev stuff though, so I would need someone else to explain if these might have been what broke data again. Either way, I'm slowly learning more about building, github, and such.

[Q] CM10.2 ROM for Razr XT912. No data service

I just installed Cyanogen Mod (Spyder) latest nightly and want Jelly Bean 3 so bad and I got it alright with Safe Strap. Flashed the ROM and gapps at the same time in Safe Strap. Used these files:

Well, what good is a smartphone that only works as a phone and has no data service. Are there ANY CM 10 ROMS that work for a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx XT912 where both the phone AND data work? Yes, I got my Verizon service, can make are receive phone calls and SMS messages. If I turn off wireless, I can do nothing on the net at all because although the signal strength bars are there on top, I get no 4G, 3G, or anything to indicate data is active and I have an unlimited data account. If I safe strap back to Stock 4.1.2, everything works fine. But I want JB 3. Going back to 4.1.2 is what I already have and works great. Going to 4.2.2 hardly seems worth the effort. Will CM10 ever get to an Android 3 version where phone and data will work for Razr phones? (XT912) Any help would be appreciated.

I'm on gsm and don't know a lot and the us verizon lock service but,
-Cm10,2 must be flashed on romslot 1 in safestrap
-check in info the baseband version (to me happened to find it "unknown" in that case search a xt912 baseband and flash the zip)
Check if you have any APNs saved.
Go into settings>More...>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names.
If there isn't any entry in there, that means you need to create one to get data to work. Call up your provider or simply look up on the net for the APN.
Hope it works.

.....awe crap! I got MC10.2 on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113 and love it so much, everything works perfect! I broke the outer screen digitizer, ordered a new one from a Chinese guy on eBay for $21, replaced it, good as new. Then, two days ago, I had to go to the doctor and was so distressed, I dropped the tablet again and this time the outter glass digitizer is all but crystalized. It still works so I ordered another digitizer and will replace it, but I do love the MC ROMS so much better than Verizon Blur, which I am using now on the Razr with Android 4.1.2, rooted, and it works so nice. Everything works!
I tried CM 10.2 on the phone (Safe Strap) and lost data. No good. Went to 10.1, data and phone work great, AND, I got my Cyanogen ROM so I could customize the hell out of it. But after a few days of it, this don't work anymore, that don't work anymore, and a whole lot of this stuff has been happening. I need Wireless Tether for Root Users and it works perfect on the Verizon Blur, but no wireless tether will work at all on CM ten anything! Not even all my apps, many of the ones I like and use all the time will not work. The Tether is a deal breaker. I have spent most of my time booted to stock rom slot in Safe Strap because at least I know that everything will work in it.
I finally reached the conclusion two days ago that Cyanogen ROMS are the Sh*t and I want them bad, but for a Motorola Razr Maxx, it is not ready for prime time in any way and now from what you say, it never will be. I will have to upgrade my entire phone to something else. What is really good? The Samsung Galaxy? Will that work with phone and data in CM 10.2 or should I just give up on Cyanogen completely? What is a really good ROM for this phone or what new phone should I get, powerful, great graphics, big screen, nice. Sounds like the Galaxy to me.
I really need a lot of opinions and advice, please pitch in guys. Thanks all.

...really? No crap? Oh man, now I have to nuke the 10.1 I replaced it with, unless, ...I can move ROM slots around. This is really important information, I have to save this. Will let you know, thanks buddy!
Man it is Thanksgiving, it is 11:40 PM and I am bored. I just *have* to try ndg99's advice, reinstall CM10.2 and change the Network Mode and see if this really works. I don't remember seeing a "More" option in settings, going to check current CM10.1 ROM install to see if such a thing exists in this ROM's settings or not. I got this all setup and would really hate to nuke it, only to find the new ROM isn't better. No way to save ROM slot 1 to another slot, is there? That would be sweet so I could try the new one yet still save what I know is working and already setup. Hmmm, Wireless Tether for Root Users might not work anymore without CDMA, but the new version never worked anyway, only the older beta version works. Maybe the new one will work with this new network setting. This is a "Must Have" app for me.
...oh wow, there really is a "More" in 10.1 and your settings are already selected! Why in the hell would they change that in the Spyder ROM for 10.2? This is SO stupid because now I have to go through the whole setup, then change the network settings, and this might blow the entire Google Restore Apps script! Hmmm, maybe skip everything in setup, change networks, get my data back, and then what? Reset Factory? That might mess up the network again. Grrrr, there has to be a way to make this work so Google will put my stuff back! Is there a setup wizard in the CD app drawer? No. Oh crap, this is WAY to much stuff setup in 10.1 to have to do all over again. There must be a way to save this config... Wonder if I can "update" over this ROM right from Cyanogen. They do give you updates in the Settings.
OMG! Right there!
/Settings/About Phone/CyanogenMod updates/cm-10.2-20131126-NIGHTLY
It is right there, in the update section. No need to install the ROM, gapps, restore and setup everything again. This is way too good to be true! Valium, my kingdom for a Valium please!
Battery at 80%, okay on that. Google account, should reinstall my stuff, only works once though, so if you lost it the first time, you have to factory wipe to get that update script to run again. That bites, because I know data will not work until I try these new settings.

Man, this is like getting an early Christmas Present! I need a Valium before I crap my pants!
Am I forgetting anything? I got Titanium and will need that because not all apps came from Google. Hmmm, Google should reinstall Titanium, just finding my old backups and restoring apps only to the new system I will have to see about.
Okay, going for the update to 10.2 in Settings/About Phone. Will keep you all posted!
Oh crap! The update was there! But because it is a major update to a newer release, 10.1-10.2, it put me into safe strap. I never did this before so I found "Instructions" on how to do it. There was a new directory on the SDCARD called cmupdates, and in there was the new update! But, I will need a new set of gapps to go with it, have it on my card, and picked that too, was ready to go, but these dammed instructions recommended clearing the caches and a factory reset. Okay, I cleared the zip cache, did the wipes, and went back to install my update. Guess what? It was gone! I bet the factory reset is what did it. Lucky I have the right ROM and gapps on the phone so it is from scratch, all over again, and this could have been so nice and sweet, too.
Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound, or live and learn. Next time I do something like this, I for sure will not be doing a factory reset just to update my phone. So stupid! Done already? I picked up the phone and by accident hit the back button so I could not see the flash results. Well, booting to system now. Oh, new boot animation! Taking a while so yeah, looks like we are getting a new phone alright. Man, if only I didn't do that reset! Man it was all setup right too. Bummer.
Alright, the Google App Install script is running. Had to go through setup through wireless, finished it, got my Cyanogen account and Google accounts, then switched over to "CDMA + LTE/EvDo" and turned off wifi just to see if I really had data. Google failed on a download during the process but sure enough, without wifi my apps are updating. I got data again in 10.2! Not crazy about the icon though. Says LTE and not 4G or anything like that but it works. If only I did not do that reset, well, it is working and I know better next time. I will start setting it up, might just watch a movie and let Google do it's thing. Then run Titanium to restore all my apps w/out data. Then go back and restore data for the ones that really need it.
Thank you very, very much, ndg99.
This is really what I want. A phone free of bloatware that is fully customizable, rooted of course, and with Cyanogen, I got it. Even got OTA updates again. And this one would have worked too, had I not done a factory reset. I have done a lot of OTA updates and never got dumped into Safe Strap before. Now I know why. Because you have to flash your new gapps, the old ones won't work.
Okay, movie and popcorn time. Thank you everyone, it is such a pleasure to be with you all. I feel honored to be in such prestigious company. I am no slouch, graduated electronics technology in 1982, worked steadily all this time and have been at computers for close to 20 years. Cell phones and tablets were a natural and of course, just having one was not enough, rooting was the first big goal and I sort of put off ROMMING for a long time. It kind of scared me. But the new ROMS and the posts, screenshots, and videos made me drool. I just *had*I to learn it. Learned with ClockworkMod ROM manager and that worked so good too. Use it on my tablet all the time and on my old Droid X. Freaked me out when it bricked the Razr. "Encryption Error" loop that you could not get out of for nothing! Fortunately I still had my terrific Jellybean script, good old "Matt's DROID RAZR Utility XT912 Jellybean", the dude is a lifesaver and a genius. I love the Linux option. There is a funny quote in Matt's script, I think is where I saw it. When you run the Linux shell script, it begins telling you what it is doing and gets to "loading drivers" and it was so funny, "Drivers? We don't need no stinkin' drivers!". True, Linux connects to these phones like old friends. As long as you have the right package and script, you really are on easy street. Not like Windows with drivers and ADB and all that.
Wow, Google is really going to town getting my stuff back. Yeah, the app drawer is filling up. Titanium is not here yet but on the way.
Dammit! The Google Restore Apps script stopped! This bites. Google shows "all apps" and "installed apps", but has no way of offering to install all apps that are not currently installed. I would have to manually go down a list of apps in the hundreds maybe and install each one. Yet, they do offer to "update all". How stupid is this? Titanium, if ever I needed you, it is now, buddy. Titanium is doing it's thing. Will keep you all posted.

Okay? Can you at least do that much for me? (Only if it helps you, not for pure rubbish or anything like that.)
Since CyanogenMod 10.2 did not give me data AT ALL when I installed it, I could not use it, took it out, and another fellow showed me how to make it work again, perfectly, with 4G speed when available. His settings worked perfectly for me and they are:
Go to: SYSTEM SETTINGS>MORE...>MOBILE NETWORKS>NETWORK MODE and changed to "CDMA + LTE/EvDo" Works great, phone and data.
This works perfectly for my phone. I get great phone and super fast data. The only thing that I miss is the 4G or 3G symbol at top bar. That is now replaced with I believe the LTE bar scale. This is hardly any sort of issue if it really words and it does. Maybe there is an app if one were really anal about this, who cares, it is the real deal. But do not take my word for it, test it yourself. Install a bandwidth speed test app from the play store. My favorite is FCC Speed Test:
Click the name to take you right to the install page. You have a Google account so it can install it right from your PC web page directly to your phone, tablet, or whatever. If you have more than one Android device, you can pick the download for the device you want it on. It says will be installed soon but if the thing is up, running, and online, you will have it installed in less than one minute.
Go look at my screenshot of my first test. This is a particularly cool one and it totally free The FCC is a government agency not biased by any individual company. It will give you raw data in real time. I have not played enough with this one but it has options to build a graph to see how it is doing over periods of time.
Dude, don't kid around. Look at the speeds for Chrissakes! Download 41.92 Mbps, my own Comcast service is rated at 25Mbps and used to be 6. Cable modems cannot regulate customer speed like DSL does. That is an individual digital subscriber line and AT&T has FULL control over it. If you get 6Mbps, that is ALL you will EVER get, it is hardwired into the protocol and how far from the office also limits your speed. This phone is totally kicking ass on my high speed Comcast and ANY DSL connection, now and all the time.
What is more impressive is that if you rooted your phone and who in here does not root there phone immediately?., then you can run a wireless hotspot so your laptop and up to 5 people can share your super fast internet on their devices too! Verizon would only "turn this feature on for an additional $20/Mo, whether you used it or not, period. I used to use apps like "Wireless tether for root users to get around this, share my high speed interrnet on my big WiFi Samsung Tab 2 10.1 because maps and navigation are glorious on such a big screen, especially Netflix or any high definition video that you want to watch. Comcast gives you quite a few movies and shows by network, TV or Movie, Genre, or anything you want. Now you get it all, free, on your tablet or several friends at the same time from your kick ass 4 G phone.
What is super cool about CyanogenMod ROM is not you get a free account for OTA updates and free wireless hotspot for you and your buddies is already built in! Pull down the quick settingsmenu where the clock is and tap to turn on WI-FI AP (Access Point), all configurable from the settings and it works GREAT. Nor more experimenting with different apps and combinations to make the phone work. Just do like I said, install the bandwidth test, and strap on some Depends Undergarments for Adults because you WILL soil your undies when you see the data streaming in and out of your phone with this app, not to mention the figures you get from the FCC Speed Test.
Forget the other settings, I tried several of them, this man who told me did his homework and this is the best thing you can get and it more than you had before. Just no 4G, 3G, or 2G icon, only bars. But the test will show you what is really going on.
I am quite sure you will be delighted with this, I will post a few shots of the built in wireless hot spot and how easy it is to turn on and off.
WARNING:
Using tether or WiFi hotspot does use a LOT of battery power. You could not keep this up for over an hour or much longer without a charger. Great for watching Law & Order in Hi/def at the doctor's waiting room, but if you plan to do this for over an hour, plug in the charger because it will eat your battery pretty quick. Remember, you are no longer just using the data for personal use on your phone, you are sharing it with one or more devices. That means that you are now running a WiFi brodcaster and broadcasting requires a LOT more power than simply receiving does. But this stuff is S?O cool you have to try it and will love it.
You must have a rooted phone to do stuff like this. Posts on this subject are everywhere so I need not go into it. Once I put CM 101 on the phone and in System Settings/About Phone/Cyanogen Updates. Pick what kind you want; stable, release candidate, or Experimental or NIGHTLIES, you will be shown what updates they are and install just by clicking to update phone. From 10.1 to 10.2 was a bit tricky, because I needed all new gapps to go with it or almost nothing will work. I got ClockworkMod Rom Manager and booted to recovery after that and installed the gapps zip file. This fixed a LOT of problems and most of my issues went away. It is always recommended you do that sort of an update by wiping everything off and starting fresh, but did not want to setup the entire phone again so the CM update with a second flash of gapps cleaned that right up.

thomasmolover,
There are no such options on CM ROM 10.2. The only thing there that works is:
CDMA + LTE/EvDo
Use that setting and it will work great! Don't take my word for it, do a Bandwidth Speed Test. The FCC app is free, gives great, fast results, and will even chart it for you over periods of time if you want to see when your low or peak periods are. Here, this is the one you want, download, install, and run it.
FCC Speed Test
Now go look at my attached thumbnail of the results screen. 41Mbps down and 16Mbps up is better than people with DSL get and matches and exceeds many cable modems. I don't need a "4G" icon to tell me this thing is kicking the speed barrier's butt! You get a super bonus in this package, built in WiFi hotspot is here in the pull down menu and it works perfectly. No need to hunt down and configure Wireless Tether for Root Users anymore, it is included, it works a treat, and if you have unlimited data, you will experience Nirvana! I use the phone to fire up my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 all the time for internet and navigation. Looking at a 10" nave screen beats the pants off a tiny 4" display any day of the week. I have been waiting so long for this. Use Safe Strap to flash this ROM and maintain it, big updates like 10.1 to 10.2 require going through recovery and Safe Strap will allow you to update the rom and gapps all at one time. Else choose TWRP and install that gapps package ASAP or practically nothing will work anymore.
This gives me 4G data speed where available but no longer shows up as 4G or 3G. I only get signal strength bars on top and I used the FCC broadband speed test. Yes, this is indeed running at 4G speed. Look at the attached test results. You see LTE at the top in the screencap with the bar strength graph? Now if that is NOT fast for a cell phone, then I don't know what it is.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO THOSE WANTING CyanogenMod 10.2 w/Android 4.3.1:
The only way to get this mod is to choose the NIGHTLY builds and the corresponding gapps package to go with it. These are "not completely finished yet, have "Some bugs" and are being developed and improved every night almost. Make a CyanogenMod Account online or during the phone setup and get your updates OTA from Settings/About Phone. Set for "New Version (Incl. Nightlies)". Update the nightlies often, because things that were broke yesterday may work today, they get better every day. For me, this is WAY too cool to pass up. I use Safe Strap with a rooted stock blur OS for absolute stability but find myself staying in CM10.2 because I love it so much and am improving it all the time.
Now, if it is not TOO much trouble, how about clicking the Thanks button if you found this post helpful? At the bottom of every post, looks like this (Colors exaggerated to show important button to click in RED .

thomasmolover and others, I would like to help you but I am not an expert at all things phone, tablet, and Android. For me, I wanted root. Found that with root I could pretty much run all over the phone, nothing was off limits, and this would certainly have some kind of benefits that others with stock firmware from Verizon or other carriers do not have. So root was my first, big quest. I learned a lot by doing that. Installing drivers, using cables to connect to laptop or PC, using programs like Oden to push roms and data onto the device and install it. My favorite is Linux because drivers are never an issue, the phones and devices natively connect to Linux as if they were part of the system. Windows was a different story. The samsung Keis driver would not install properly at all, the Motorola drivers did install if I got the right ones, but they often installed things I did not want like MotoCast and other junk software that I do not need at all. Dropbox automatically uploads pictures and video, what do I need Motocast for? Syncing music to the device maybe, but if I wanted a music player, I would have bought a music player, this is a super cool smart phone, not an mp3 player. I think I got lucky the first few times with my Droid X by installing superuser or root apk files and installed them, but that did not last long.
Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, or ANY carriers DO NOT WANT YOU TO ROOT THE PHONE! So, they make the process very difficult or impossible if they can. Many computer and device owners are not exactly brilliant people. They do what the device offers, enjoy it for what it is, and pay extra money to turn on "cool services" that they want like Mobile hot spot. For Verizon, that is $20/Mo whether you use it or not. They fill it with bloatware or "junk" like VZ Navigator that will be a GPS unit for your car to get you to your destination, for about $4 each time you use it. Why in hell would I want to do that when Google Maps does the very same thing, is MUCH more updated and accurate, and are free? With a rooted phone, you can turn on the mobil hot spot, use it to your hearts content, and cannot be billed for it because the phone company has not idea that you are doing this or any way to track usage for billing.
I make friends here and on other forums. We talked. They loved to talk about the newest or coolest ROM they installed to change the phone and how much better it was. They sent screenshots. The phone was cool alright and all that junk/pay software from Motorola, Verizon, or anyone else was gone. Good riddance, not only less useless clutter but more free card space. It took me a while to build up the balls to ROM my phone or tablet. I think I did the tablet first because I need my phone for work and daily use. If I mess up the tablet and have to try again, not a big deal.
You will be able to tell who is experienced and very good at this by their member status and by the way they talk. Try to make good friends with one or two of them. Let them show you some of the ROMS they installed and courage them to talk about what is good about it. People love to talk so if given the opportunity and an audience, they will talk. I cannot believe that some of these ROMS will turn your beautiful Android phone into an iPhone. If I wanted and iPhone I would have bought one. So make friends, talk to them. Learn from them.
The tablet I have, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 I rooted of course, then tried CyanogenMod ROM on because their seemed to be a LOT of support for it and development work going on. Now that my devices are rooted, I installed and purchased Titanium Backup and ClockworkMod ROM Manager. Both essential, both free, but the small amount you pay for a lifetime license is well worth it. With ROM Manager, you can totally backup your entire device, play with it, change it, mess it up, and always restore your backup to "put it back right". WOW! Same thing worked on the Droid X, but not the Razr Maxx, you must use Safe Strap for that.
Now that I have the confidence to change the entire operating system and if I don't like it or mess it up, I can easily restore it, I can start experimenting with ROMS. The Tablet was first, it does not have a "radio" in it because it runs on WiFi, has no carrier or monthly bill. The phone was a little more scary because I read in these ROMS that some of them have problems with "the radio" (The part of the phone that connects you to your service) so I stayed away from those. I finally installed CM10.1 on the phone and it wall worked great. I now have Jelly Bean, it is smoother, nicer, slicker, and works better if you do not get a buggy or beading edge ROM. And holy crap, you can customize just about *anything* on these ROMS, not like stock "Stock is frequently called blur" firmware or ROMs.
Now I want CM10.2 on the phone and Tab to get Android 4.3.1. I now use Safe Strap instead of ClockworkMod ROM Manager on the Razr Maxx because CWM will semi-brick the phone and it will never boot again unless you reinstall the entire ROM from a computer. Safe Strap does away with all that by letting you flash the ROM and gapps zip files at boot time. I heard talk that the radio and phone service did not work on the CyanogenMod ROMS anymore because they do not work on CDMA base radio anymore and that is what the Droid Razr Maxx uses for the phone. I installed it and the gapps with Safe Strap, keeping my original rooted stock blur ROM available and during the setup process, had to turn on the wifi right away and get it connected or the setup could not continue. Uh oh, looks like I will not have a working phone if I do this and for sure, data only, no more phone. I wiped CM10.1 off the phone and went back to rooted stock. But I did ask about CM10.2 on this phone and not being able to use it as a phone anymore. Being nice here paid off. Someone told me that of course it works, but you must change the radio settings under the settings menu.
/System Settings/More/Mobile Networks/Network Mode/ and choose CDMA + LTE/EvDo.
I did this, got back my signal strength bars, but no more 3G or 4G indicators anymore. It now also says LTE over the bars and works just fine. I did not have to reboot or anything, just make the change and try it out. Works great! I love CM10.2 because now you can get a free CyanogenMod account and get updates OTA just like the old days. These ROM updates are rooted so you never have to worry about losing root, and are slick as hell. But to get this stuff, you must use the NIGHTLIES builds, not the stable ones. I would swtich back to stock blur for daily use and then reboot to CM10.2 for a while until I became comfortable enough with it to try using it all the time. I had some issues, apps would stop, it would get stuck once in a while, but for the most part, all was well. But there now were updates in the System menu, I applied them and the phone only gets better. I am happy.
This is how I got my introduction to rooting, ROMMing, and customizing my devices. I know nothing about China Telecom, what exact type of device you are using. (Mine is a Motorola Droid Razr Mazz model XT912) Chances are that you will not get much help in this discussion because it is very specific to China and China Telecom. I would recommend that you make a new post, explain your situation best as you can, give exact brand, make, and model number of your phone, and the service provider you use. A couple of screenshots of the About Phone section always helps. CM ROMS offer the option for screenshots in the power press menu. Take some shots and post them so others can see what you are working on and with. They may ask you to go to different screens and take more shots to share. I attached a couple of screenshots of About Phone from 10.1 I have laying around to show you how to attach screenshots.
My best advice to you my new friend is to start a new post specific to your particular issue. Include important information in the title such as "China Telecom Razr Mazz XT912 with CM102" or whatever your ROM, model, and issue is to attract the attention of those that can help you. It is not likely that someone with a Chinatelecom issue will wander into this post and have the answer you want, but stranger things have happened. Make your own post, include all of the details that matter, and find people that who have been there, done that, and can really help you.
If you find this answer really did help you, please click the big "THANKS" button under my name. Good luck, this CM10.2 is good stuff, even though I have already updated it twice already. :fingers-crossed:

thomasmolover and others, I would like to help you but I am not an expert at all things phone, tablet, and Android.
I wiped CM10.1 off the phone and went back to rooted stock. thank you for the long reply and help me with frendly. I flash the Mokee Rom of China team, Now I can use 3G, follow
1. flash rom into the Razr XT912
2. you must not wipe data and cache if the last rom is CM11 mod
3. dial *#*#4636#*#*, switch dns check to "0.0.0.0 allowed", change the network type into any include "CDMA" mode (NOT WCDMA!!)
4. edit /system/biuld.prop file: telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1
5. reboot the mobile
6. now we can switch 3G data any time!!

On #4, how do you edit that?
My problem is I get LTE just fine but if I lose LTE signal, it doesn't switch to 3G. I just lose data signal all together.

Rooted! Thinking About Un Rooting And Updating to 4.4.2! Did Not Trip Knox! Help?

I have rooted my Sprint Note 3 a few times now without tripping KNOX. I am currently rooted and thinking about un-rooting and going back to stock via update of KitKat 4.4.2.
I have un-rooted without tripping KNOX either.
My main reason I want to do this is because I got a new car stereo that has Bluetooth audio and voice. Everything works perfectly and connects excepts that sometimes while listening to music something cuts out for like a split second. The phone is right next to the car stereo.
The car stereo unit is the Jensen VX4010
Sprint Note 3
I do not think the Jensen VX4010 has a bios update or will ever.
The only think I can think of is that the Bluetooth software on 4.3 is a little dated.
If I update to the latest Android software I am thinking this might fix the issue. I think the latest android update has Bluetooth AVRCP and 4.3 does not. I could be wrong.
Options:
1. Do you think this is a possible problem?
2. Has Google fixed all the problems with KitKat or is it still a nightmare? Like Battery Drain issues?
3. Should I just wait and deal with this Bluetooth issue?
4. Is there a way to just update to the latest Bluetooth technology and just stick with 4.3?
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your comments.
Ill be pretty straight forward here..
Jensen is known for budget low cost ( low feature) equipment in the car audio world. Its not total junk and its gotten alot better in recent years compared to how they were before Audiovox bought them out, but you get what you pay for. That head unit retails for around $240 compared to other brands that start at $350-400. You sacrifice features and build quality. ( its like comparing your Galaxy Note 3 to a galaxy S2 Mini)
The clipping you are getting I will put money on is your deck.
I don't think updating your phone will improve it, I would test another device and see if you can duplicate the cutting out.. And also try connecting to a different bluetooth device on your Note 3 and see if you experience it.. then you can rule out if its the deck or the phone.
My money is on the deck though as the problem.

Closest thing I can find that may give you hope. Most definitely an issue for those enjoying this feature, but looks that the update fixed the issue...

Not that I think of it. I have paired this in a Scion before and this never happened. and I have paired it with a JBL Charge and played Disc Golf for hours without a single hiccup.
So it must be the deck. Or bad connection between Android and Jensen VX4010.
Please advice because if this is true I am going back to the place where I got it installed and return it and get a pioneer. This is going to be a major hassle and I am sure they are going to give me a hard time but will do it.

Ok I have read the thread. Not seeing an exact correction but it does appear that if you update it will run better. Do you know if the blue tooth will drain battery or if they fixed the battery drain because once I update I can not go back unless something new has come out since last time I checked.
Please advise and read above post because I will be in a major jam tomorrow in order to return my stereo unit and or upgrade to 4.4.2 permanently and I never really had to in the first place.

I am unclear on many of the issues to which you refer with relation to the specific device you're using, as I don't use them.
I linked the thread due to your specific reference to Bluetooth and AVRCP.
That page to which I linked mentioned it being compatible with the AT&T Note 3 running KitKat.
As to Bluetooth drain being an issue that's been resolved or no on TouchWiz KitKat, I cannot answer, since I use a Bluetooth headset only, and have had zero issues. Others have reported Bluetooth battery drain since this phone was first released.
As to your choice to upgrade or no, I, unfortunately, cannot provide such a definitive answer as you seem to need.
If you wish to play it safe, then I suppose your safest bet is to not upgrade. The alternative has too many ifs and little certainty.

Update!
Ok so I returned the Jensen and got the Pioneer AVH-X7500BT!
Looks like this was a good idea. Bluetooth is great! Much more options.
The only question I have is …
Pandora all of the information shows up like what song it is and who is singing. But for Bluetooth neither this unit nor the other unit displayed information. I am just surprised that these decks can’t show that for 2013/2014 Decks.
I still have not un-rooted my phone and nor do I think I will now. I am just still thinking that if I update to 4.4.2 and get the new updated BT Software on my phone maybe it will transfer song information.
Can anyone verify this?
Other than the song information everything is working great on the pioneer.

Try a different note with 4.4.2 before you update because once you do update there is no going back to 4.3 .... so try and see if it will work before doing the update and maybe messing something else up

Man that is a brilliant idea. I can stop by the Sprint Store or something and have one of the Tech's come out with their note 3 or something. See if it works and if it does I will update and if it doesn't Ill just keep what I have.
Great Idea!

Bluetooth wont usually sync the picture and album art with most radios.
Pioneer is a good choice!
The radio itself has to have its own Pandora app to display what you are looking for... Bluetooth just streams the audio through with third party apps.. and when you use the music apps it sends the song information from the file its playing. There may be a pioneer app on the play store to do this for you with pandora/etc.. I still use my Pioneer Premier radio from 2006 ( Premier line was amazing then) I know pioneer has a thing called "Appradio" which uses MHL connection to your phone to use the phone display as the headunit so all your apps/etc work on the screen.
That may be the direction you want to go in.. if that matters the most to you.
Also- Rooting wont affect anything with your bluetooth- Everything will work just like it did before if you root. You just void warranty if you trip knox.. you only need root if you want to install roms, remove system apps, or install apps that require root access ( being able to write to your /system directory) like Titanium Backup, Tethering Apps, Flashlights.. etc..
Ive rooted every device ive ever gotten my hands on- I go through phones every 6-9 months, and I rent cars and use bluetooth with every model out there and they all work great with my note 3 regardless what rom i have. Only time i ever had a problem was when the phone was overheating..

Thank you so much for all this valuable information. I will try to do everything you have suggested and you let you know how it goes. I am so glad I got rid of that Jensen. I did like how the USB and the Audio Out was right on the Dash but I can get over that.
Again Thank You! Will be trying all this out!

You can definitely get rooted again on the latest firmware.
I just did an Odin One Click to the latest version ( Nc5 Firmware) with WiFi Calling
-used CF Auto Root to root again with Odin
-installed TWRP recovery with Odin-
-installed Freeza's Fre3 rom 2.1, flashed the 400mb update to 2.6, then flashed the theme pack thats in the thread there and my phone works great.
I also changed my LCD Density to 320 so my phones UI fits alot more on the screen like I do with most of my roms I flash.
As far as bluetooth goes I didnt notice any differences... The only problem I ever have when dealing with roms is when I use Cyanogenmod roms, or anything AOSP based I have issues with the volume being too low.. but lately Ive been on Freeza's rom and sometimes switch to Josh Beach's roms ( kitkatkiller) both are highly recommended and are based on stock samsung firmware thats themed and de-bloated.

Awesome I will check all that as well. I kept my phone rooted so far on 4.3. I might just flash all your stuff now that Chainfire has come out with a reset flash counter not that its a big deal anyways anymore. Note 3 is getting a little dated and the newness is wearing off so I am not worried about it. Works great.
I tried AppRaido with little luck. Everything works perfect but it does not show any song information on the screen.
What I would love to have is a Music Player that plays FOLDERS and shows SONG INFORMATION on the DECK. I am doubting that this is probably impossible.
If you have any other great ideas please shoot.
Looking forward to searching for more cool apps on Android to see if they are compatible. Just wish their was an App that can force the information on the screen.
I did use the built in Pandora function and everything shows up including the song information. That is awesome. Why can't there be an App that pushing the Song Information to the Deck.
Thanks!

Okay so I think I read the question wrong. But I recently rooted my phone sprint note 3 using the towelroot method without Knox being tripped. I unrooted my phone or broke my root purposely by deleting the .su binaries from the system bin using ESfile explorer. Look up that technique on YouTube for more directions. It worked for me. Flixster works just fine. And the root checker did not see that my phone was rooted after I used this technique. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vYz4E9nO2kM . Now if you have a custom recovery or a custom rom then this method can be a hassle. And I suggest you search for a Odin technique.

I would definitely try another phone with 4.4 before updating. I for one truly hate 4.4. So much so, that I'm considering trading my gn3 for a gn2 just to get rid of it.

Here is the deal I just went to the Sprint Store and tried a Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 on it and it showed all song data on any app that was used to my car stereo deck.
So then I thought hey maybe its the app.
Well ... Come to find out. The default apps do play the song data to my car stereo deck but Mort Player the player that I like does not. It does how ever play on 4.4.2.
Mort Player - Song data comes over to deck
4.3 = No
4.4 = Yes
Defult Music Players
4.3 = Yes
4.4 = Yes
Now I can keep my 4.3 and find a player that can push music information and display information over current settings via 4.3 like the default players do. Or upgrade to 4.4.2 and enjoy my music player with song information listed. Then I would just have to deal with everything else that everyone hates though.
Please list what you hate so I can decide which avenue to take please.

Please let me know how awesome 4.4.2 is and if I should upgrade and not worry about it. I went to the Sprint Store and found out that on every application on Android on 4.4.2 and a Sprint Galaxy S4 every song information played on my stereo deck. The Pioneer. I am thinking about just upgrading so I have the latest security, towers, and Bluetooth software installed on my phone.
Please read my last post to get you updated on my findings.
Also read the below quote. Many people hate 4.4.2 and I do not want to upgrade and become one of those people who are stuck.

What I hate has little to do with features and more to do with how much harder it is to do things as a themer. It is ass ugly and harder to theme properly. I want to tell Google and Samsung to _______themselves as they are attempting to stop us from changing things. Say what you want about how great Android platform is. Within a few years it will be locked down as tight as the iPhone. 4.4 is step 1 in that process and therefore bad.

Update Update Update!
I just couldn’t believe that no App would show the music data on my deck. After seeing it work on 4.4.2 and watching different Apps work I thought I would try a ton of Apps.
To my amazement these two Apps play music folders like I want and show all music data to my car stereo deck:
Folder Player
Rocket Player
These Apps I tried play music but do not transmit any music data to my car stereo deck:
Mortplayer
KAmMa’s Folder Player
Music Folder Player Free
EX Folder Player
MFPlayer
I have no idea why the how Folder Player and Rocket Player transmit the information. But it seems I get the best of both worlds for now. I can use Rocket Player via Bluetooth and see all my folder information and keep my Note 3 rooted on 4.3. Party!
I am just wondering if I should upgrade for latest security, tower information and perks but at least I have time to think about it now.
Thanks for everyone’s help!

Remember that you are doing this of your own free will and if anything happens negatively including Vader going back to the dark side it's your fault.
This is what I did to go from rooted, Knox reading not tripped to 4.4.2 Knox counter still untripped.
1)You would want to back up anything onto a computer and your SD card including nandroid if possible if you don't know what a nandroid is you may not yet have the technical ability to make one.
1a) download the latest stock version of 4.4.2 use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205
2)go here
http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-repair/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-3/
Print it out
3) download the Odin from here
4)the above has links to Odin and step by step instructions with pictures
5) download towelroot from http://towelroot.com
Put it on your SD card
5) pull your SD card safely and reset your phone with factory data reset or if your running a custom recovery through it.
6) follow the steps from
http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-repair/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-3/
you should of printed it out....
7) after it says pass and is booting put your SD card in.
8) side load/install towelroot
8a) run towelroot and make it rain
9) install root checker verify it worked and then a superuser program.
At this point you will have a rooted 4.4.2 stock rom.
For the latest stock version of 4.4.2 use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205
And yes the Odin listed in the unroot website flashes that rom on my sprint phone without a problem.
Worked for me.

[Q] Any good "daily driver" Roms on the Verizon G3?

I'm thinking of picking up a G3, but want to make sure that there's quality software to back up my hardware purchase. Are there any good Roms (or rom/kernel combinations) that anyone can recommend wherein everything pretty much works (including LTE data and USB/WiFi tether) and the artificial sharpness bug can be disabled? Marshmallow-based is preferred as I want to be able to flash one Rom and never have to worry about it again for at least a couple of years. Stock-based isn't a requirement, but it is preferable, as CM-based roms are usually lacking on hardware-specific features and optimizations.
Word on the street is that Fulmics Rom is the go-to for this criteria, but I heard somewhere between XDA and Reddit that versions 4.1 and 4.2 were the last version of Fulmics rom with properly working data for Verizon. Can anyone back this theory up?
I'm running the latest CM13 nightly build 08/02/16 and so far it seems to have fixed all issues I've had previously. Tethering and all that works, actually using foxfi tether from the phone to my tablet right now.
I have have this same question. I've been out I'd the loop for a bit with work being crazy. I am definitely looking for a good daily driver also.

@xdabbeb 's stock rooted 47A firmware with the debloat zips in the third post and if you have unlimited data, use his tethering mod in another thread either in Development or Original Development.

So stock Android doesn't actually have WiFi tethering built in? Or do you just prefer Foxfi over it because of the features and functionality offered? I'm open to trying a CM or CM-based Rom as long as everything works. Now do you have access to any of the equalizer settings with that (like Viper audio) or does it require a special kernel? How is the volume level on voice calls?

If I go with the G3, that'll definitely be one to try also as long as tethering works with StraightTalk.
How's the situation with audio enhancements on that Rom (Viper audio or similar) or does that require a special kernel? Is volume on calls through the device's earpiece loud enough?

I don't know if the built-in (or modded) tethering will work with any other carrier besides Verizon - I seem to recall some people saying it complains that it's not provisioned for it. I'm on Verizon, so can't speak from personal experience but you'd likely have to use something third party. I also don't know for sure if people only have a problem tethering on non-Verizon if they apply the modded tethering, so try it without using the mod, and then if it doesn't work, make a TWRP backup and try with @xdabbeb 's mod.
I haven't fooled with audio mods in a long time so I can't comment on that - I know some people have used Viper and/or others on his ROMs - search his thread for "viper" and you'll probably find something. I think everything on this phone is loud to very loud depending on which channel.
Note that one feature you definitely won't have on non-stock ROMs is the laser focus of the camera. No other app can work it. The camera will work, but it won't be as good. I used to dabble with CM but for my own use, it's too much trouble so I haven't fooled with it in a year or a year and a half, except on my LG G Pad 8.3, which stopped OTAs at Android 5.0.2 and it's too sluggish with it even when debloated.

Good call. Sounds like someone found a zip that will work, so that should be worth a look. As long as there's some customizable equalizer that works universally for the headphone jack, that's the most important part of the audio side of things. From the reviews I've read, the loudspeaker on the G3 should be louder than the one on my Note2 and the earpiece can hopefully live up to the Note2's legacy as well.

That is good to know. Can the stock camera app be installed on a CM-based Rom or do you have to be running a stock-based Rom? I've never experienced the G3's fancy rangefinder autofocus before, but it sure sounds like a feature that would be disappointing to miss out on.

No - there's no hope for getting the stock camera app to work on non-stock ROMs.
I recently told someone else here the two things I would most highly miss if I switched from LG are their warranty service and the built-in LG Backup, which is extremely fast and can take the place of Titanium Backup for the most common things, but you can still want TB for restoring Bluetooth parings, etc. Quirks of LG Backup to just be aware of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=67947945.
To add what @roirraW "edor" ehT stated as far as stock ROM, I used to run rooted. Mainly, this was due to needing TiBu. But once I discovered the LG Backup tool, I now no longer have my phone rooted. There just hasn't been a need for it as the stock ROM works pretty darned well for me. Battery life is good. As long as I'm not hunting , my phone lasts the day doing normal things like making/receiving phone calls, texting, checking news, etc.

If I recall correctly the stock ROM does have hotspot built into it, but you need to have hotspot in the plan you use for your carrier. I have the unlimited everything plan with T-Mobile currently so I don't have to use foxfi but I did pay for so I Figured why not. CM13 does have hotspot built in and it works just fine. Though I haven't tested USB tethering yet.
My call quality has been absolutely superb.
Built into the ROM is also an equalizer called AudioFX which is honestly my favourite equalizer, it gives you different options based on what you have the phone hooked up to or if you even have the phone just running audio through the speakers. I'll actually go ahead and try running Viper ( never tried it before) on here now and report back with my findings.
Edit:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Viper works perfectly fine.
I disabled AudioFX using [root] App disabler
You need to have root enabled, then the SELinux Mode Changer installed and set to permissive, then just install the Viper apk and let it install the drivers and you are good to go.
*Note I did not test installing Viper via flashing it.

Yeah, after years of being screwed over by Samsung's garbage Amoled screens, I have decided that no future primary device of mine will ever have one again. It's too bad because the Note2 has been fantastic other than that stupid screen with its green tint that has to be defeated using a custom kernel (which seriously limits the already-pathetic Rom selection) and annoying burn-in that never goes away.
I also tried the One M7, which, despite its tiny screen, is actually a solid device, but the terrible camera alone is bad enough to turn me off to it. Side by side, the Note 2's camera is better in most conditions (and that's a circa-2012 device!) and I just can't justify that kind of a drop in quality from an upgrade, so the G3 is the next runner up for me. As long as its lone screen idiosyncrasy (the artificial sharpness inherent with the stock rom) can be defeated, it sounds like a win to me.

Yeah, I'm not paying for something twice. That is just not an option for me, mainly out of principal. I don't tether that much, but when I need it, the ability needs to be there without any intentionally-sabotaged software getting in the way.

Good. That's what I wanted to hear. Is the volume loud enough to hear even in a loud enviroment? The reason I ask is because the Note2 is actually quite quiet by default, but there's this special Samsung feature called "my call sound" which tailors the audio output frequencies to your ear's strengths and weaknesses. It basically subjects the user to a hearing test while wearing earbuds and then applies an equalizer to the earpiece for phone calls based on the results, which makes the volume very loud, even at the lowest setting.

If you have unlimited data on Verizon, and you don't flash the hotspot mod, then you have to pay Verizon to use tethering. If you don't have unlimited data on Verizon, you don't have to do anything/pay anything additional to use the built-in hotspot. Using on another carrier like Straight Talk that he is (unless I'm confusing with another thread) is a different animal though.

The volume has been plenty loud for me when I'm out on the streets trying to catch 'em all, with people yelling and vehicles driving by with their noisy exhaust. I haven't tested it with the train going by but I usually can't even hear myself talk while it's passing.
On a side note the speaker on the back is of fair quality as well, I'm the type of person that likes to listen to music all day and the speaker has given me no issues or moments where I feel like I'd need to invest in a wireless speaker to tote around, granted it doesn't have bass but I don't ever expect there to be a bass driver in a phone that's just silly.
The only complaint I have with this phone is that it has a tendency to overheat with my usage, like right now it's at 35°C from me streaming and typing this response. When I play Pokémon go even at night, specifically last night for example it was reaching 42°C fairly quickly even with Coolify running, still trying to determine if it's the processor or the fact that a certain company that supposedly makes 10mil a day can't be bothered to hire coders that can program and optimize on the level of 10 year olds .
Edit----
Also wasn't to happy about all the hoops one needs to jump through in order to install custom recovery and even root the device in the first place.

When you say "overheat", do you just mean that the phone starts to feel too warm?

Also wasn't to happy about all the hoops one needs to jump through in order to install custom recovery and even root the device in the first place.

What's the story on that?

I mean the phone is literally getting to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and above at times which to my knowledge is not so good for a phone as the components arn't likely designed to be that hot, it will also physically feel hot and it starts to slow down.
As far as the process I had to do on my phone is as follows.
Since it was running the stock 5.1.1 firmware I was unable to get the one click root method to work ( found in another thread) so I had to
1. Use the Chinese root known as king root
2. Convert that to SuperSU and get the king root gone (apparently adds extra sketchy stuff)
3. Use the LG flash tool to downgrade to the firmware
a. Had to change device to com31 or 41 In device manager and find the proper files.
4. Then root the device with stumproot.apk
5 . them install twrp
6. Then flash the 35b bootstack along with cyanogen and the gapps.
Took me 2 hours
Hi guys,
I just bought my Verizon G3 used on Sunday night and, although I'm currently using it as a Wi-Fi only device, I thought I may still be of help.
The same night I bought it I successfully rooted, added TWRP Recovery (Used "Bump" method found in Original Android Development), and flashed a modified stock ROM (SkyDragon). Upon research and confirmation by a member, I found out that pretty much all ROMs are now pre-bumped, and flashed Resurrection Remix a day or two later.
All this bump stuff can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...pment/bump-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-verizon-t2900590
You need root before you add Bump'd TWRP, and after failure with a no longer functioning method, I rooted with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
If you need the official modems or bootstacks, they can be found in these threads:
Modem & Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/rom-jasminerom-v1-0-t2904641
MODEM IS ALSO IN BOOTSTACKS
Bootstacks (Don't know if there's more around): http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/xdabbeb-s-vs980-2-0-0-t3231279
In case you go to RR, I believe it needs 35B Modem and Bootstacks.
Now, I read here that the laser focus no longer works on custom ROMs, but I still see the red light flickering in the back (on RR ROM). So does it or not? Please un-noobify me and have mercy I haven't researched the Verizon G3 section since Tuesday.
I never tried the speaker without Viper4Android, but I think it sounds great with it.
I'm still not sure what the temperarure should be but at the moment CPU Temp Xposed moduled indicates around 140°F (60°C) and GSam Battery Monitor reports current battery temperature as 103°F (39.44°C). These temperatures seem a little high to me (CPU really), but I've never really paid attention to temp data on my other devices so I don't know what to make of it. I currently have and Otterbox case on, which does increase temperature, but not too much, as I've seen, maybe only 1-3 degrees, or maybe nothing at all...I still have to observe more.
I'm currently using RR as my daily driver and get what I believe is about 4:30 - 5:30 sot. I don't play heavy games and never have location on...need to try out with my bluetooth headset with music only. I get no discharge when I sleep the device at night (I turn everything off + 24/7 airplane mode, Greenify with Xposed, Aggressive doze from Greenify, DS Battery Saver to back it up, and soon to come wake lock and alarm modifications but probably will never arrive as I'm fine with sleep and everything off)
I was quite entertained typing that. It's probablh the most I've typed in one post here on XDA. I hope it helps you at least some and others as well. Maybe I went too far...I forgot what the OP asked while I was typing lol
Thanks for reading
EDIT: I was initially on Android 5.0.1 and 24B stock firmware

Hi! Just wanted to let you know the Bootstacks contain the modem, so unless you need, for instance, a 12B Modem on 24B Bootstack, etc, there's no need to flash a modem separately. If you were going to flash a different modem, you'd have to flash it after flashing the Bootstack, since the modem in the Bootstack would overwrite any modem you previously falshed. Post #2 of @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM thread tells all about what the Bootstacks contain. These are the only already packaged Bootstacks. For lower than 35B, you could make Bootstacks out of 23C, 11C or 10B, but usually someone will be on at least the very last release within a major version of Android (24B and 12B).
In case I didn't tell you elsewhere, or for anyone else reading this, a 46A/47A Bootstack would be unuseable because the 46/7A modem requires the 46/7A sbl1 partition, TWRP and root require the 12B aboot (bootloader), and the 46/7A sbl1 in combination with the 12B aboot causes a QHSUSB_BULK 9008 mode brick, so that's why we have to use the 35B Bootstack with 46A and 47A. I haven't tested yet, and probably won't bother, but I'm sure the same is true of the newly released 48A.
Also wanted to let you know that root method only works up through 24B. 35B and higher require KingRoot as far as I know, and so far the same versions of KingRoot that are able to temporarily (and invasively) root 46/7A won't root 48A.
That is all.
Edit: Also, you accidentally put the root thread link in where the modem and kernel thread is supposed to be. I'm sure you were just meaning @bweN diorD 's stickied thread in the General section. I think he has up through 35B in there. "Maybe" 46A too - I forget.
Noted, noted, noted, and noted. Thanks!!
Btw I meant the modems and kernels found in the JasmineROM thread
I use PA as my daily driver. Super fast. Not just saying that because I maintain it.
Roms!

Do you know if the behavior would be any different than it would be on a completely stock rom? I tested the stock tethering capability on an OG Droid Razzur using the bone stock rom, and (predictably enough) it won't even try to enable the hotspot feature with a Tracfone BYOD sim card and service.

Sounds like you're working it too hard . I think any phone would increase in temperature a bit when you're taxing it, although it's my understanding from the original AnandTech review that the G3 throttles itself down dynamically even in the stock rom to keep thermals under control.

It's good to have it all here on one page, but a bummer that it's such an annoying process.

Thanks for sharing. Since SkyDragon appears to be based on the stock rom, it's no wonder that the rangefinder for the camera works. What's the word on disabling the artificial sharpness on that rom though? I couldn't find anything on it in a quick search of the Op or even the entire thread.

Interesting choice. Beside the rangefinder, are there any other features or goodies that non-LG-based Roms would lack?
