Get a logcat app from Google Play that can record or use adb.

i meant (from a other approach) navigate to /data/data/com.lge.qremote using root explorer or whatever root file manager grab qremotesettings.db from g3's qremote folder and put it to d618's qremote folder, worked for me when i changed phone

Did you succeeded doing this? I am interested in trying, but I still need to root.
I'm on Bell but have Niaboc's D6503 23.1.A.0.690 installed and my phone says there is a system update. Any idea what this would be?

Why not flash one of the many prerooted 1.28 zips offered here on this forum. Search and you bound to find one
Or download the FTF of choice and use PRFcreator to make your own flashable pre-rooted zip.

Two things, Triscuit:
1) You posted a link to a WHOLE ROM and not an OTA;
2) The ROM you linked to is for the MDK bootloader which most of don't have.

You can download it from Sammobile. I just downloaded it a couple of days ago. It was a very slow download though. They want you to pay for faster downloads. See link. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SCH-I545/

I used Odin. I'm not aware of any other way except maybe a custom recovery.
