I am looking for a bedside clock app, and yes I know there are many, here is the catch. I want one that dims really low like Better alarm but also has all moving parts aka the clock bounces or moves and there are no parts at all that will cause possible screen burn. Would also be icing if it could enable itself when plugged in.
Does such an app exist?
Gentle Alarm has a really nice bedside clock that dims perfectly. Also it has an option to change the clocks position to reduce any screen burn. Oh and you can set different profiles. Works great!

Try alarm clock plus.
You can set the clock to move around every minute when it is dimmed
Klaxon, the full version supports clockwork. Very nice dim. Black screen with dark green font. Still visible in dark room but doesn't light up the room, also has weather. Looks just like the stock android clock that our phones don't come with.

I use Lightning Bug for white noise and has a nice bedside clock.
+1 for Gentle Alarm, especially if you're also looking for an excellent alarm clock. Btw, I use Tasker to automatically launch GA when I plug in the power. You can customize by time, or in my case, when I plug in the power, I get a popup menu giving me the choice of several "modes," including a night mode which launches GA, turns off connections, and adjusts the volume.

I use bedside. It dims perfectly, has tons of options. I haven't found an option to move the clock around, but I've been using it for months with no burn in.
Night clock from Doug Ricket is the best alarm clock I have used since I got my G1 on day one. It is not in the market any more, just google it. It uses my mp3 files as the alarm, randomly, adjust brightness, color, snooze time...lots of settings

Another vote for Bedside, even though it doesn't move the display. It is real dim and has a sleep mode that blanks the display until it is touched/moved. Very sensitive - I usually just tap the bedside table lightly and it wakes the display. Perfect way to keep it dark but still have the time on hand.
It seems that HTC has deleted the old Sense desktop clock I had on my Dinc. I have tried several new clocks but they all have a backlight in the dim mode that is very bright in a dark room and I assume it also consumes a lot of battery.
Does anyone know a clock app that has a "black" screen, meaning not backlit, that also turns off the red LEDs. I have tried Desktop Plus, Alarm Clock plus, Clock Saver, etc.
I tried to find something like this as well and just ended up using the stock alarm clock and turning the screen on the phone off when I go to bed...
Look for Relax and Sleep in the market. I don't use it for an alarm but it has a nice desk clock mode. Doesn't seem too bright at night to me either.
Thanks for the input. I tried the app and it is still pretty light in the dark--again it is backlit. However, this app made me think about Lighting Bug which is similar (also a sound machine). I opened it and it has a number of clock mods you can do and it might be the darkest screen yet.
I use Locale with the shortcut plugin. I tell it to turn the brightness down to 20% when docked and it's after 9pm. I also have it launch the clock app. The combination works great.

I use Kaloer Clock and its awesome...tons of settings and its free. I have an orange led alarm clock with no backlight and 10% brightness.....works perfect and also has a screen saver setting to prevent burn in(although i dont know if burn in is really an issue on this phone..any thoughts?) Def check it out though
Interesting. So you guys are talking about being able to always see the time?
Yeah, might worry about burn in but that would be handy.
Thanks for this Kaloer Clock app. This one looks like a winner. It has the darkest screen, most settings, screen saver, and button lights out. Can't ask for more than that and it solves my problem.

Thank for showing me this app. It has the darkest screen I've seen, a lot of custom settings, and is exactly what I was looking for. I put it on 1% dim, dark blue letters, no button lights, full screen, and keep screen on--it's a winner. It'll be sweet dreams tonight.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for but I thought HTC had removed it. I just never waited long enough for it to take effect. Simple with the darkest screen. I do wish there was someway to activate it sooner but the screen is dark, time moves around the screen, and it turns off the buttons.
Thanks
I have found Gentle Alarm to work well. Was free a while back on Amazon's FAOTD. I use it on both my Touchpad and Rezound when we travel.

Well, I think they call it "image persistance" or something. I've seen it on LCD monitors at work. I work on software that has a constant image (not a pic, but the software layout stays in one place) on one of the monitors and while most of the icons did not have a burn in, if you were at the desktop you could see a distinct line across the screen where there was a separation of screen elements on that monitor. So when watching a quicktime on that monitor's desktop level you could see a horizontal line through it. I don't know why just that one line showed up since the icons are usually permanent (they can be changed but usually once someone programs their setting that's what they use). The only thing is those are clicked and the button changes when that happens so maybe that's why.
Anyway, I'll wait for reports back before I use one of these clocks with my phone.

That sounds good, I like that it moves on the screen. I can't find out how to activate it though. Where are the settings?
If you go to the HTC Desk Clock (not the dock) and just leave the screen open, in about 5 minutes the small night clock will automatically start and the button lights will go out. There are no settings that I am aware of.
Sadly, after trying night clock last night, it is backlit like all the rest. The backlight is very bright in a dark room IMO. I just got out my old Dinc, went to the Desk Clock, and it has a button toward the bottom of the screen that lets you activate the night clock. Also the background is absolutely black, not backlit.
Still trying to find that dark screen with clock!!!!!
The old HTC clock would turn to a nice desk clock with just a dim digital time when in landscape. The LTE's clock ha the time displayed like it is in settings in a bright white and highlighted bar. TERRIBLE for use as a nighttime bedside clock!!!
anyone have the old sense 3 version of the clock??? i couldn't find any clocks in the HTC hub thing.
---
the flashlight is in the HTC hub though, for anyone looking
---
so, are there settings somewhere to change the clock's appearance?? this clock sucks. it just looks like settings, it locks out standard, just no reason for it at all.
I do know that the clock will change when you apply a skin

I was looking for the Desk Clock too!
And by what he meant by the skin, when you change your scene, the Big Digital Clock widget's skin changes also
Count me as another person who very much misses the night mode clock. I downloaded "night clock" from the market as a temp solution, but I really would like the old HTC clock back.
I'm also looking for a way to dim the capacitive button backlights when the phone is on the charger.
You should check out Alarm Clock by double twist. It's only a buck right now. It's really nice.
Alarm by Double Twist
doubletwist alarm clock - its ok... but still not desk clock.
someone got the flashlight from sense 3, not the hub, can't anyone with a #D extract the clock apk? i didn't know it would be so hard to find
I'd be interested in this too, and also how you get it installed. I've been searching for a way to install the HTC Note app from the International One X with no luck. I found the apk files, and tried a couple of the obvious methods of installing, but no luck.
i'm screwed, the update gave me 1.5 on the 3d, so i can't back up anything without wiping everything i'm trying to back up, and i can't get into folders to play with extracting any apps either. have to beg someone out there to do this for me!!
I really miss this feature as well. I used it every night after I set my alarm. I've been using the doubletwist alarm clock application for the past few weeks and like it but I still miss the old desk clock mode in the stock app. Hopefully HTC will bring it back in a future update. Seems like an odd omission.
I too noticed that, and is the only thing ticking me off right now about this phone.
I used it every night. You put it in night mode, and it would dim even further.
Best when you wake up half asleep wondering what time it is. Easy on the eyes.
This would be huge if someone can make it work on this phone.
Same story here.... Also I would like a desktop clock that is easy on battery and doesn't shut down the display... Any thought on using any widget combined with widget locker or something like that to create something similar?

Doubletwist alarm clock has a "keep screen on" option in settings. Though I've never tried it, that plus one of it's clock displays (the screen dims when you switch to the clock view) might do the trick.
I found that drains battery unreasonably compared to either shut off or the old HTC desk clock option. I've tried everything I could find to replicate the old sense 3 clock. apps just somehow use at least double the battery
Hi
On the S7 Edge you have the option for AOD and night clock. I have looked, according to me, everywhere for night clock, but can't find it. Has it been removed or can someone tell me where to go to setup night clock?
sorry to say its been removed since the s8.
That's crap....it's one feature I used on the S7 edge, having aod constantly on chows the battery...perhaps an apk of the night clock feature?

they do have some thing that resembles it called edge clock which you can set at night, it shows only at the edge but its quite useless. I just ended up leaving AOD on only at night didnt see that much drain, my phone is in airplane mode though.
I was to believe that AOD only used 1% battery per day?
The edge clock is the thing that is missing or that I cant locate..I can't find it under edge panels or anywhere...the clock that sits on the side of the edge screen. The aod took 2 % per hour on my s7 edge..on the s9+ it takes 3% per hour
I just got my new phone today and noticed this was gone as well -- this sucks!!! It was great to glance at my bedside table and see the time in the dark. Crapola.

The point that the fan of the S7 Edge approach is trying to make is that he can not set the phone up to switch between two *different* always on setups automatically in a rotation on the S9.
As an example, on the S7 Edge, one could set:
-Always on display with clock and date displayed in large letters on the center of the screen as 8am to 11pm.
- Night clock with the date and time sideways on the edge of the phone and nothing in the center from 11pm to 8am.
Though they've folded the night clock look into the always on display feature, so you can get an always on display that looks like the old night clock, the OP can't duplicate the aspect of the functionality that allowed a more typical AOD during the day and the side one during the night without manually going into settings and changing it both when he wakes up in the morning and again when he goes to sleep in the evening (Twice a day). Now he must pick one or the other and any swaps have to be manual where before he could automate. He can limit the one he picks to certain times, and automate that, but he'll get a blank the rest of the day. So, duplicating getting two that switch back and forth automatically at certain times, which is goal, appears impossible.
I actually don't have an S9, but I do have an S7 Edge. I actually found this thread through a search engine where I was wondering if night mode would still be an option in the event I upgrade at some point, so I get exactly where the OP is coming from, and the functionality described here is not the full functionality of the S7 Edge night mode feature. It sounds like they folded part of it into always on display and eliminated the rest.
An "always on display" automated switcher might be a good app for someone to write. You could have the functionality this guy wants, plus it would enable you to do things like have one AOD for work and another for leisure or family hours. You could look at your phone and come to associate one AOD display with work and one with fun. Maybe your work one could be a serious plain clock face and your fun time one could include a zany picture.
I could be incorrect but I was under the impression that the S9/9+ brought back the NightClock*feature? Not the AOD version but the original?
Anyhow, I was able to unlock the original NightClock feature (S7E, VZW, Oreo 8.0) via a simple floating_feature.xml edit. Now I can go to: SETTINGS -> DISPLAY -> NIGHTCLOCK and can set what time I want the clock to turn on/off. Just like the original.
But, sadly, at the set time, nothing happens. AOD turns off, no NightClock.
The problem that I am facing now is that apparently the framework needs to be edited to actually get the clock to display. Until we get the ability to modify Oreo framework this is likely the end of the road for NightClock.

Exactly. It was an really nice feature on the S7 edge.
I really liked being able to use the regular AOD clocks during the day and the edge clock during the night. Seemingly many other S7e users liked this feature too. Shame when an new "improved" model loses a desirable feature.
I have an S7+ and just updated it to the latest Oreo release, which includes the latest Samsung updates. I've lost my night clock!! It's the best feature of the edge display, one I use all the time. I'm gutted I upgraded now!! Why Samsung? Why??? Btw, the edge clock in this latest update simply doesn't sit within the curve so it's useless!
Get actual Samsung Edge Lighting Notifications with any app while your screen is off!
Since we all know Samsung only did half the job with this feature, this app will enable you to trigger Edge Lighting (the real one !) when your screen is off. It works with any app by reading the app notification creating a new temporary notification that triggers edge lighting (you won't notice it in your notification list).
You can set custom color filters for your apps, based on their names.
Real Samsung Edge Lighting
Extremely minimal battery drain
No fake AOD Screen
Works with ANY app (including Messenger!)
Initial setup is a bit tedious, but that's mostly Samsung's fault.
Any suggestion to improve the app is -of course- welcome!

Great works but for me that I use AOE to have the notch light notification instead of the absent led, it doesn't work.

Thanks for your answer , but with Always On edge I can have the notch notification untill I read it. With the edge lightning I have only the lighter when the notification come. I like to have both.
I was using always on edge and holey light together to have this effect but this affect the battery so I was looking for another solution.

Well I use my app for Edge Lighting (around the edges, not the notch) to see when a notification comes, and Holey Light to remind me of unread notifications.
I can't seem to get it to work. I have edge lighting set to always. But when my screen is off it doesnt work. I'm actually getting only this app's notification with it's color (black)

On my S10e it is working.
But I probably do not fully understand philosophy of the edge light at all or something, because for what is this good for when it only do the effect one time, which takes only few seconds and thats all.
How will this help me to alert to SMS for example when I get back near the phone and look at it?. Or it is not ment as substitute for notification LED?

No it's not meant as a substitute for notification LED. First release was actually on phones that had a notification LED. It's just a pretty way to display notifications. And if your screen is off, it will prevent it from turning on.

Edge Lighting just makes the notification more noticable if the phone is in view, that has always been its only purpose. It allows you to see, by color, what the notification is. It is not and never was meant to a substitute for the notification. Now, if you use Holey Light and Edge Lighting you can have both...
Can't wait to try this. Curious though, how did you learn to make Android apps in a day then upload it to the play store that quick. I started learning a while ago for games and still not the best at it and uploading to the play store normally take max of 24 hours to get on to the store lol.
The app is working great, however, these would be my suggestions for a slight improvement:
1: Add a search function, as the list can be quite long.
2: After you switch on an app, move it to the top of the list, so that when you enter the app all of the ones marked "on" would be at the top.
I can't think of anything else as it is working just fine.
What happens when multiple notifications come in? Will it cycle through them?
Yes
Just tried it but I am sticking with just Holey Light. It would be nice to have this maybe cycle back on for a set amount of time so you could use it as a notification light.
