Selling phone & have question? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I am currently rooted stock OC5 with TWRP. How do I go back to stock unrooted/stock recovery on OC5? Thanks in advance!

1. Download this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60417881
2. Power off phone completely
3. Load tar file from #1 into AP slot in Odin - make sure you extract tar from ZIP first!
4. Put phone into download mode (volume down+home button+power button)
5. Connect phone to PC
6. Flash tar from #1 via Odin
7. Once flash is complete, reboot into stock recovery (volume up+home button+power button)
8. Factory default reset in STOCK recovery
9. Reboot and profit

Won't be selling the device for a few weeks, just wanted to predownload all the files needed before hand. Why is this method not working for some?

They usually miss a step. Like not clearing data first, or not pulling battery for odin.

Seems like it's almost always the step of clearing data in factory stock. I've not had an issue when entering download from completely powered off state, but I've never pulled the battery either but YMMV I guess.

Worked like a charm no problem. Also wiped the phone completely with ##RTN# and my MSL number. Can't see selling a phone to someone with my cell phone and name still attached to it.

Is my phone bricked?

So I was doing the Odin flash part, and after it passed, my phone would of rebooted, but it just stayed on the samsung logo. So i restarted it, and its still happening. I can't go into recovery mode.
Yes it sounds like a soft brick. You can usually fix this problem with a USB jig.

Crap my friend doesnt have an SD card. he only has internal. How can he put a ROM in the phone?
Do you havea link to a thread? I can't find anything how to fix a soft brick.
Ima try this
Part 5: De-brick
1. First thing you should do is to try access CWM recovery (see above), then either restore a previous nandroid backup you made, flash a working rom that's on your sdcard, or put a working rom on your sdcard via your PC 's card reader and flash.
2. If you can't fix it via recovery, then put your phone into download mode. Flash a stock rom via Odin (see above)
3. If your Note won't turn on at all, you may be facing a hard brick.
4. You can also purchase a mini-usb jig which will put your phone into download mode even when above methods fail. I personally bought this one for $1.60 shipped. But basically any jig for the Galaxy phones should work.
That shouldn't matter, did you try going into download mode? If you can't then you need to by a jig, they aren't that expensive or you can make one yourself!

Then what you need to do is flash a stock ROM and try again but I recommend using a different kernel seeing as the first one didn't work.

Hey, Ultimate. I'm the friend that's in need. When I open Odin, do I keep the two ticked items the way they are? Or do I untick F. Reset Timer?
Keep them, just make sure re-partition isn't ticked and if it's only one file flash in the PDA section

OK that's a good sign, first time boots do take a while because cache and data need to be created so be patient, if it takes more than ten mins, go back into recovery wipe cache and dalvik cache and try again, if that doesn't work then also wipe data

You must have been patient and see if you already have cwm installed if you do then no need but if you don't i suggest you find out other ways as ROM manager isn't very good I just helped someone out who was having cwm issues and they flashed it using rom manager but you can try if you wish

Perpetual Force Closing / wrong gapps version / 4.2.2

Ohhh man. I effed my phone up. I recently had the power button die, so I was able to eventually flash cwm touch recovery to be able to wipe and install. Well, in my infinite wisdom decided to name my old 4.1.1 gapps as gapps.zip, and flashed that by accident. I've now lost both touch recovery because I reinstalled 4.2.2, and I have the wrong version of gapps on my phone, causing it to perpetually force close gapps and the Setup Wizard, and I cannot get past that. I can't use the regular cwm recovery because the only button that selects anything is of course my broken power button. I'm pretty much hosed, so my question to you guys is, through which method would I be able to pull myself out of this ****hole?
I'm pretty sure you can use the home button to select items in recovery

Negative, home button on 6.0.3.0 brings you to the top of the options, already tried all buttons. Power was the only one that selected.
Are you able to flash anything? If so what about siyah kernel which has the navigation bar, use that for selection purposes. Just a guess....

I can boot into 4.2.2, but I get back-to-back force closes and I cant select anything or proceed past them, only thing I can do is touch ok then it pops up with another force close.. I was previously able to get into settings > aokp and flash the recovery which allowed my to touch the wipe selections, but now it is stuck on non-touch cwm, and only the power button can select anything, and it is dead.
Would it be possible to revert back to something with odin, kind of like when it was first rooted/flashed?
Just use Odin to flash a .tar JB Kernel that has TWRP Recovery & then u can wipe data, etc. (jeboo has one in SHOstock3 Rom thread, post 3).
Then proceed with flashin ur Rom of choice, etc.
Edit: U will have to pull the zImage out of the kernel.zip and use an archiver to put it in .tar in order for u to flash it through Odin.
Edit 2: Had a few minutes so here ya go... View attachment jeboo_kernel_i777_v2-1_TWRP.tar MD5 = 5A63171E4DB7181F84A7EE44049CDDA7

[Q] challenge for senior members BOOT LOOP SGH-T959

I will try to keep this short and sweet, but it is what it is. Please don't let this be the end of my phone!! so i had my vibrant rooted and running a cm. 10 rom. i was an idiot and when it randomly flipped into recovery mode and wouldn't do anything else i panicked. I immediately factory reset which wasn't bad but when the problem wasn't solved instead of reinstalling the zip, (I wasn't thinking about it at the time) I figured using odin I would reinstall éclair. now my phone is in boot loop and will only pull up the boot menu if the sd card is in. another symptom is that when i use odin to install éclair everything in the process works as it should up until it gets to the reset then the phone says cannot wipe data... phone reboot then it shows that it is charging and when i unplug it and try to power it up i still get boot loop if anyone knows the solution to this I would greatly appreciate it and any other ideas I could try to bring this baby back to life. ANY SUGGESTIONS AT ALL ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED
Perhaps you are not using Odin properly? You're using the file called pda .tar and the .pit file? And be sure to uncheck the repartition toggle.

I assume that I am doing it right... from what I have researched it is correct. I have double checked to make sure that the tar goes into the pda and that the pit has pit. but the reparition toggle may be something I over looked. I just downloaded the pit and tar files online would there be anyway that those could be the wrong file or I have to use a proper combination of two files? do you suggest downloading those files from a certain site? Once again thanks a bunch for your comment!

I could not figure that program out to save my life the comments made me believe that its an app for the phone itself. but my phone doesn't boot up.
im kinda thinking that the problem is actually when the phone says cant wipe data. because then the loading bar stops and it boots straight from there. What would keep the phone from not being able to wipe the data?

A corrupted internal SD card most likely , have you been on an ICS ROM lately? Try to Odin Eugene's Froyo that does not brick, if this works then you most likely got hit by the EU bug. If this is the case you will have to do the external SD card work around.

maybe this will tell you more if my phone has a dead internal sd card. I just barley noticed this but the phone actually doesn't bootloop unless the external sd card is in. if the external is in the phone shows the Samsung vibrant logo and then it turns off. if you hit power it will try to boot again.

Questions before I root?

Coming from HTC so this is a little different for me..I did search these out, just want to be sure.. First, will qbkings method still work since it was done on the first version for this phone and its now on MJ4? For TWRP, when you flash a new rom, what are you wiping, Factory, System, and internal or just system? Any other advice is appreciated, just don't want to screw crap up... Thanks

I used cf-auto root on my phone. It trips Knox but I didn't care about that. You can find it in the original development forum.
As far as what to wipe for a custom ROM just read the first few posts of the ROM you are looking at and the Devs will be very specific as to the steps needed to avoid potential issues.
All the Devs here are very helpful if you have any issues as well.
Hope that helps.

Welcome to the community, bro.
Here's a starter set of instructions, followed by a backup set if you get stuck. [Make sure that you are on MJ4 prior to doing this.]
---------STARTER STEPS
1. Download TWRP (tar/odin flashable) from teamw.in (V2.6.3.7)
2. Download and install Samsung drivers for mobile phones (you may already have these installed)
3. Download Odin V3.07 (you may already have this too, link takes you to what appears to be a master thread for Odin)
See this post for a nice visual and comments, pic and thread provided by a fine gentleman that has about the coolest user name I've seen on any forum
At this point you can decide whether or not you want simply stock rooted, which TWRP can give you without flashing anything, or if you want to install a basic stock rooted rom, kindly provided by @freeza, can select DeOdex or Odex, thread here
4. Download MJ4 DeOdex or Odex and place it on your phone
5. Power off your phone
6. Put your phone into Download Mode (voldown+home+power)
7. Flash TWRP with Odin and boot into it once done (volup+home if Odin auto reboots your phone or volup+home+power if it's off)
8. If you decided to simply go stock rooted, then go to reboot>system and TWRP will ask if you want root, if not, then proceed to flash MJ4 DeOdex or Odex
9. Profit
---------PLAN B IF ABOVE FAILS YOU
[Some just can't get Odin to play nice with the TWRP tar, don't know why.]
1. Follow QBKing77 video and install root using CF method, thread here
2. Download img file for TWRP from Team Win site, flash using app from Play Store called Flashify
3. Flash recovery
4. Follow the rest of the outlined under the heading "Starter Steps"
---------AFTERTHOUGHTS...
Once successful, go into TWRP, backup only your EFS, then separately, backup boot, system, and data. Throw your EFS backup on your PC and Dropbox in case of emergency (hopefully you won't need it).
Pick a rom you like, and start fiddling. Support the devs, have a blast.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

Yeah, it is. But there's a reason I layed the steps out so broadly and specifically; half of that was given to me (the stuff above the Plan B line) by one whom knows far more than most, and I still had to do the stuff for which I hadn't planned. Worse, I got stuck at that horrifying yellow Sprint logo, with no bootup. I pulled my SD card and the battery, powered up again, and I only then had success. Most have no issues, but thankfully enough have that there were similar experiences conveyed across these forums.
I really hope that you have a trouble free experience.

The button combo you're describing is taking you into the bootloader. Try the other direction with the power button to get into recovery.

You're going into the bootloader. Hold power+home+volume up. You'll get into TWRP, bro.

Haaaa, if it wasnt for dumb mistakes...I thought the down vol got you into TWRP as well. Doing a quick restore, hopefully it works.

No problem. Just don't let that this dispel ya. Pick a rom and start flashing. There are a lot of good choices, you've already tripped Knox, so have at it, defile the thing and make it work the way you want.

[Firmware] NE5

First thanks to Garwynn for posting the stock firmware for us.
Since the firmware I posted is getting buried I am posting its own thread. Just to make sure people can find it if needed.
Here is a link to my NE5 folder on Copy. It has the following files. Stock Kernel (Odin and Zip), Stock Modem (Odin), Stock Recovery (Odin and Zip), mirror of the stock tar Garwynn posted, all firmware except the system and cache, and a tar with just the cache removed so it doesn't wipe data.
If you Odin the modem only tar put it in the phone slot. On the S4 it wouldn't take very well, if at all, unless you put it in phone. So I am assuming it is the same with the S5.

It depends. If you are still on an ND2 based rom and want to update, you odin this:
Stock_NE5_Rom_No_Data.tar.md5 (includes everything but cache to prevent data wipe) 1bafa46d70f67e8abd9358d1a7a09bca
If you already have an NE5 based rom, this will update the modem ONLY:
Stock_NE5_Modem.tar.md5 7a8b103649f4e9cdf927876922eaa26c
And to update the firmware, this one:
Stock_NE5_Firmware_No_System.tar.md5 (includes everything but the system partition and cache) 732d08b126b4e18429d111847ba1462d
Note: Updating firmware will cause stock recovery to come back, simply re-install your recovery of choice. You won't loose root. You might want to make sure that TWRP actually installs your backup. There have been reports of TWRP backing up ok, but not restoring. Philz recovery does work without problems.
utilizing Odin via the phone slot and mobile odin my baseband is still stuck on ncb baseband when I try to flash the modem file. Any suggestions?

Are you using an app to get into download mode or are you shutting down, pressing volume down > home button > power button to get into download mode? I've read that using an app to get into download mode doesn't work too well. Also, using Odin 3.09 or 3.07 seems to be the best version.
i am still on nd2 so it looks like i will be needing the Stock_NE5_Rom_No_Data.tar.md5. i will be doing now via mobile odin....thanks ramer

You're right Odin 3.9 did the trick, thanks.
My baseband ver was G900PVPU1ANCB. Flashed the Moar rom, everything works. Flashed NE5 modem via odin but my baseband ver. stayed the same. I thought the baseband suppose to change? 4G signal isn't that good. Did I do something wrong?
I realized what the problem was. The 4 way reboot to download mode will not work. I was able to flash NE5 when I set my phone to download mode via hardware buttons.

Flash it again and make sure the phone is off before you boot into download mode. I had to flash several times to get the ND2 baseband to take. I do get much better LTE, especially when moving. I stream podcasts a lot when driving to and from work and it quit dropping data after flashing NE5. Also, I work in a basement and I can keep LTE down here where I couldn't before.

No, actually it took NE5 on the first try. I was expecting to have to flash it more than once because I had to flash twice when upgrading from NCB to ND2.

EDIT: I did it! Someone here linked me to a thread where it said to power off before booting into download mode and it worked like a charm!

Great! I hope you see as much of a difference as I did.
I flashed the stock no data ne5, but now I can't access menus through dialer codes, like ##3282#, is there something I can do to get it to work?

Hi guys !
I'm trying this trick in my Qtek 2020i and when I make a softreset the settings(User_) don't change.
But If switch from auto to night ambience the user_settings return to default.
What can I do ?
I must remove the User_settings from registry or other ?
Thanks in advance.
