Can my Z2 be rescued from the dead?! - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Update 2: I've connected the battery's flex cable again with the mainboard and plugged it into a Sony wall charger via USB. The red led is now blinking during charge, which it did not do before, it was only solid red all the time. Is this good?
When plugged into the magnetic charger, the led is constant red.
Update 3:
I can only get the phone into flashmode when I put it into the USB of my PC WITHOUT the battery flex cable attached to the board! I also have it then show up in device manager as "SOMC device" and flashtool shows me a device ID. It then connects and disconnects from flash mode about every 50 seconds, before disconnecting, it seems as if the led shortly flashes yellow or something. It then shows a faint battery icon on the display with a small red bar on the bottom of it. When it connects again into flashmode, the battery icon is gone.
(When I try to connect the phone with the battery cable attached, flashtool doesn't recognize it.)
Still, I've tried to flash a whole 4.4. rom to it (when it was in flash mode) and to my surprise the flashing went through and it didn't disconnect!
But still, I can't turn on the phone after reattaching the battery cable.
When I plug it into the wall usb, the red led blinks. When I plug it into the magnetic charger, nothing happens, no led. If I quickly unplug and plug back in the battery cable and then try again to connect the magnetic charger, the red led stays solid.
I've just discovered, that the back side of my battery doesn't have a QR code or barcode or whatever it should be on it as the original battery should have. I'd like to look at the other side of the battery and see if it's a real Sony but I'm having trouble unscrewing it because my screwdriver is not small enough!
Update 4:
I've managed to repair the device with PC Companion (all the while with the battery unattached to the board, very risky, I know) but it still doesn't boot!
I've hooked it up to a wall usb charger and let it charge for a while - red led is blinking.
It seems that it SHOULD be okay now, because it went throught the PC companion repair, shouldn't it? I can only think of the battery as the only remaining fault here?!
If the mainboard would be broken, it wouldn't let me flash an entire rom or enable a PC Companion repair, would it?
So it could be the battery?? Problem is: I need to spend 12€ for a new battery to try it out, but if it isn't the battery which is broken but something else, I have a useless new battery and a dead phone!
Update:
I have the battery still unplugged and plugged the phone into my PC's usb port. Flashtool recognizes it and shows "device in flashmode", after about a minute or less, it automatically disconnects and says "device not connected", after a while it connects again in flashmode and so on. (I didn't pull the USB out of the USB port). I can also get it to fastboot mode (blue led solid) when pressing volume up.
Also, for the first time ever, when it was in flashmode, I saw a faint battery icon on the display with only the bottom of it filled with a small red bar, then it went away! I had this happen twice already. I still have only the Kitkat kernel flashed. I'm afraid to flash the full rom with the battery unplugged or even with the battery plugged in as there is not enough charge, also flashtool tells me the device connects and disconnects itself from flashmode every couple of minutes and this would be very bad during the flashing process.
I'm not sure, but I believe everytime I plug the battery back in, I can't get it into fastboot or flashmode and flashtool doesn't recognize it, what could this mean?
Ok, here's the deal: I've bought a broken Z2 on ebay for a bargain prize. The seller wrote: "It only shows a constant red LED when charging, and three pulses of the red led when disconnected and pressing the power button."
Also no vibration, no booting, logo or anything.
Of course before buying, I've researched the different methods to bring it back to life and believed I could do it.
Turned ozt, they all didn't work.
I've tried holding power button, power button + vol down, power button + vol up, power button + vol up & vol down. BTW: The small reset button under the micro usb/sim card flap is gone, maybe broken, missing, I don't know.
I've let the phone charge for hours with wall outlet and also magnetic charger as I read this could help when USB is not working (of course not booth at the same time!).
No luck.
When unplugged, the red led stays on for a while after that. When the red led is one, neither PC Companion nor flashtool can register the phone, flashtool says: "Device disconnected" or nothing.
When the red led is on, flashtool registers it and says "device connected with usb debugging off" but I can't enter flashmode. Also no fastboot (I don't know if bootloader is locked or unlocked!)
Now, in my desperation, I've opened up the back cover and disconnected the battery. With the battery still disconnected, I've put it into the usb port, flashtool says "device connected in fastboot mode", for the first time ever, the BLUE LED came on. No more red!!
Then, after plugging out, plugging in, connecting the battery and such (I don't remember which order or what I did) flashtool said: "device connected in flash mode" (Again, for the first time ever!!!).
Flashtool can also sometimes detect the device (maybe depending if battery connected or not or after having it disconnected for a while) and shows me a device ID and "true". System manager says "SOMC flash device" (also, this did not happen before!!).
So, when flashtool said device connected in flashmode, I had an UK generic Z2 D6503 4.4 rom ready (it is a D6503 because the little white slide out slip under the micro sd flap says so), excluded everything but kernel (as I read this is faster and should be okay as a first step in flashing) and started flashing.
To my surprise, the flashing worked without problems! So the kernel should be flashed.
Alas, phone still doesn't turn on!
Do I need to charge it for a long time (USB wall charger or magnetic, I have both available)? Connect it with battery unplugged or plugged to flashtool, trying to flash the whole rom?! Let it sit there with the battery unplugged for a certain while?
Could it be that the battery is faulty and not holding a charge/not being able to charge and that's why it can't boot?
Right now, I have it sitting with the battery unplugged, not plugged into the PC.
It seems the phone has still some life in it, at least a lot better than before unplugging the battery as I could flash the kernel and it sometimes is registered with device ID in flashtool, in system manager as SOMC flash device or even in fastboot/flashmode and the blue led came on.
Could somebody tell me if it is possible to revive the phone under the current conditions and what to do exactly? Should I unplug some other cables from the mainboard as well and let it sit for a while?
Any help is much appreciated!

Can anyone please help me with this?

try to find an other z2 and setup the driven needed when the phone is offline

You mean an other working z2, turn it off and plug it into the pc and see if it installs new drivers or other drivers? Then maybe flash the rom again or try another PC companion repair? When I first did the flashing of the complete rom, flashtool said it all went fine, the PC Companion repair afterwards also went successful, PC Companion said.
I don't have access to another Z2, but I have my fully functioning Z1, could this be similar enough to install the necessary drivers? Prior to flashing/the PC Companion repair I had already installed the general fastboot/flashmode and Z2 drivers from the flashtool drivers folder. Is this the same?
I had the phone on the magnetic charger for the past 7 hours with a solid red led but the battery isn't even a bit warm as it should be when it would be actually charging. As soon as I unplugged the charger, the red led went off and phone doesn't boot. Does this confirm that it didn't charge at all or that it can't hold a charge?
I have now the usb charger plugged in, the red led is blinking all the time. The battery is not warm so far.
I don't know if the bootloader is unlocked or maybe wrongly flashed, does this affect flashing a new rom or a successful PC Companion repair? If so, what can I do differently to flash it in this case? Something via fastboot mode? I can get it to show the blue led and into fastboot mode when plugged into the pc.
Oh, btw, when I had the phone in flashmode when flashing the rom (flashtool said so), there was no green led as it should be in this mode. In fact, there was no led glowing at all. Is this important?

same case with me
I hope this issue can be resolved,.
I have z2 with the same case, only red indicator
or may be battery is faulty ?

How did this happen to you? What is your current status, what have you tried already?
I've finally managed to unscrew the battery from the case and look at it. I'm not sure what to make of it. My battery doesn't quite look genuine. It's missing the QR code and lines of text on the lower part of the front and also the QR code on the back. The text on the back is also smudged.
See photos for what I mean. The first two are a original battery, the last two are from my battery.
I don't know if the previous owner replaced the battery with a (non genuine?) one because the phone wasn't booting and he couldn't flash it and thought this would solve his problem or he could flash it but it still didn't boot because of the non genuine/faulty battery.
As I have managed to flash the phone/repair with PC companion, I'm now facing the fact that it could be and hopefully is the battery which is the remaining fault and once I have the battery replaced, the phone should boot.
At least, that's what I'm hoping for.
I just bought a new battery on Ebay. It should be here anytime between tomorrow and Saturday.

maybe that's the problem i also hope the same

Bad news everybody: My replacement battery has arrived but the problem is the same. When the power button is pressed, the phone blinks red 3x. When plugged in it is constantly red.
No life in it, no vibration, won't start. It could be the mainboard which is also defective, but then, why was I able to flash and repair it?! Anyways, a new board is 100€ and that's not worth it. I've given up!

[Q] x10a dead? not going into flash mode anymore

Hello,
I have an AT&T x10a - which I upgraded to 2.1 using the non-GUI flashtool few months back - and then to the dual-touch update through SEUS. Everything was fine until about a week ago - when my phone started freezing randomly (and would have to remove / reinsert battery to get it to restart).
After a few times of this happenning, I downloaded the latest GUI flashtool (0.2.9) and reflashed the generic 2.1 ROM - no issues doing this - but phone froze again after a day of use. Battery Graph app showed sudden drain in battery charge right about the time when the phone would freeze. So decided to restore this back to AT&T 1.6 firmware -- found instructions in another thread on the forum to modify the build.prop file and change the SI number using root-explorer. Managed to change the SI number in that file successfully -- but since then my phone has stopped working.
Last couple of days - on pressing power button, phone would vibrate for a second - but not turn on - no display - no LEDs.. Couldn't connect in flash-mode (even in Flashtool) or regular USB mode. Now the phone does not even vibrate on pressing the power button - nothing happens (it's not the battery - as my wife has the exact phone and I have been interchanging batteries / making sure its charged)..
I have tried several things I found on this site -- holding back button - then plugging in battery, reinstalling SEUS, PC Comp, Java - etc.. -- no luck. At one point yesterday - I removed the battery, connected wall charger and reinserted battery - green light came on - tried the same by plugging into USB port - and PC Companion recognized phone as connected (still wouldn't turn on) -- but I cannot get that to repeat now.. The phone does nothing.
So - anything else I can try to make it come back to life - or I am hosed?
Thanks in advance for the help -- and this forum is pretty awesome.

battery too low i believe!
It seems to me that your battery is on a very low level of charge, since your phone is not working correctly it won't start to charge it as it should.
You can try the following:
Remove the battery, connect the wall charger, wait 2s, place the battery in, leave the phone charging for at least 30min, if the battery or the charger starts getting hot remove the charger and the battery(only charger hot = some sort of short or waste of battery somewhere, battery hot = charge too fast or charge and decharge too fast).
2º charge your battery using a 4,5v DC external connected directly to the battery for at least 20min, the power supply must be at least near 500mah wall charger, even an old mobile charger which you can cut of the wires to connect directly to the battery, remember to test carefully the poles + and -, if you do reverse this YOU WILL KILL THE BATTERY, + goes into + and - into -.
If the battery gets to hot check the poles, if they are correct wait sometime replug the wires and leave it at max 45min.
Put the battery on the phone and test, if it does work try to get to the system and check the battery, if it has more than 70% you can try to reflash everything using seus to make sure you won't get the same error again.
DO not try to reflash the phone with the battery below 30% because if there is any error that is causing your battery to drop too fast it may break your phone.
Thanks for your reply - but as I mentioned in my initial post -- I have tried two batteries (since my wife has the same phone) --- and I have made sure that battery is charged before trying flash mode. I have used both the batteries and the result is the same - the phone won't start - no LED indicators. I have also tried plugging in the charger first and then inserting the battery - no luck.
Thanks.
You seem to have tried everything that I've tried in the many times I've messed up my phone when I've impatiently installed a ROM... I get overconfident a lot =)...
Anyway you seem to be going the right way but have you tried to remove everything from your phone... battery; sim and memory card... for about 5mins.
SEUS is probably your best bet if you can get your comp to recognise it for long enough... I couldn't though... so had to first reflash the baseband using flashtool... which is also a waiting game as it may not recognise it as a X10 anymore, so be prepared to quickly, as the phone will only remain in flash mode for a little while, identify the phone in the popup and then reflash to the right BB first then ROM.

Is there a difference between how you flash baseband v/s the complete firmware using Flashtool? Because even with flashtool I cannot get the phone to go into flashmode - when trying to reflash the firmware.

X10 Wont start, Not recognized on pc. Can use Bootmode in wall socket

Hi everyone,
Some time ago my Xperia X10 suddenly got some error messages and i decided to just remove the battery and repalce it.
After i did this the phone wouldnt go further than the Sony Ericsson logo, so i pulled out the battery again.
After some time it wouldnt start up at all anymore.
I actually gave up hope untill a few days pack i decided to try connecting it to the pc once more.
when i tried to start in in boot mode (back button + connecting the usb) a red led started blinking with a 1 second interval.
So i tought if the led blinks there is life in it and i can fix it.
I fooled around with it a bit (note that my pc never really found the phone) and tried charging it in the wall socket.
When i try to start boot mode while connecting it to a wall socket a green led starts burning.
So i tought it might have been the battery, i ordered a new one wich came in today.
Sadly no help since the green light imediatly shuts down if i put in the battery wich has been charging for about 5 hours now.
Can anyone please tell me whats going on and if its fixable?
If you need anyomore info please ask because im sure i forgot some important stuff.
Thanks in advance.
are tisawla
I'm just trying out some more and found that:
-its not boot mode but just the green charging light comming up when i connect the phone to a wall socket without a battery
-there is no green light (so no charging?) when there is a battery in the phone
-with or without battery there is no green light when i connect it to my pc's usb (not enough power supplied?)

[Q] Solid Red light when I connected to Charge

im getting solid Red Light when i connected to power. no charging not even recondnice by the computer.. What can i do to power on the phone..
i did hard reset too nothing happend....
i read some article about red light and some says to return to sony store and some says to unplug the battery and reconnect ... i dnt have warrenty to send it to sony.....so " if i change the battery does it works" ?
Sometimes it works with replacing the battery. Sometimes you need a new mainboard ( about 100 $)
I don't know if these "test buttons" works. Then your phone will be recognzied as S1Device and you could use trying S1tool (but i think it does not support Z2 )
Same problem
Hello,
I've got the same problem. No response at all with any button combination or the red reset button.
If I connect the usb cable to charger or PC red LED turns on but nothing else. The PC doesn't recognize it, not even if I connect it with volume down pressed. I opened it and disconnected the battery. With the battery disconnected it has the same behaviour, only red light if connected.
Any ideas of what I could try?
I wouldn't expect a dead battery causing this. I mean, if the phone can get the power from the charger then it should turn on even with the battery disconnected right?
I was thinking to charge it for two days and see if anything happens, just in case. Otherwise I will need to think on how to discharge the battery manually and see what happens.
I don't to buy a new battery unless I am sure that will help...

What happens if you disconnect the battery, put the charger cable in the phone and then hold the power button and volume up button for like 5 seconds.
Do you get the battery logo on the display then?
No... Nothing at all happens

Is it the original loader (Sony, 1500mah) + sony charging Cable?
I have chargers laying around everywhere, and I noticed that sometimes the phone did nothing while using samsung chargers 750mah).
When I put my phone in the charger the light turns red. Nothing on the screen.
When I take out the charger the light stays red for a long time.
But when it is off, and I take the battery out and then put it on the charger (without the battery), then the display shows a battery logo.

Phone is not responding, screen black, no charging LED, please help

For the first time I am actually afraid I really managed to brick my phone :-/
I recently flashed ResurrectionRemix-M-v5.7.3-20160822 but had some problems with the camera, hence I tried flashing gapps and google camera again, resulting in a boot loop, without the rom on internal storage. since resurrection came with CM recovery which couldnt access the sdcard storage there seemed to be no other way than to flash twrp recovery. After trying fastboot with a successful flash but still only going to cm recovery I flashed a zip with adb sideload containing twrp+stock kernel but possibly for a different device.
NOW my z ultra does not turn on anymore when pressing power, no reboot with vol down + power, no charging led when connected to charger, no fastboot with vol up and plug in and not even flashmode vol down plug in to reflash ftf.
The only thing I can make it do is hold power and volume up to make it vibrate 3 times.
I am really stumped, is this an actual brick or is there something else I can do?
please please please help me
edit:
tried pressing the red button on the inside as well, same behaviour as vol up + power. I have it connected to the wall charger it came with and the usb cable from my shield tablet (which I consider reliable) and hopefully charging.
ok so I let it charge over night and was presented with a continous red LED in the morning. When I connect it to my computer in any way (vol up down does not make a difference)
and flashtool shows repeatedly this:
02/033/2016 13:33:26 - INFO - Device disconnected
02/033/2016 13:33:53 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
02/033/2016 13:33:53 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
02/034/2016 13:34:01 - INFO - Device disconnected
Rebooted the computer, put the phone back on charger, two hours later I don't get a connection to the computer anymore. Right after plugging the phone in there is no charging LED indication whatsoever. I suppose when the battery is "full" it changes to constant red.
Maybe the battery is just dead, although I don't understand how that would have been possible. It did charge via usb now for +12h. Still in only red Led stage. when unplugging the LED blinks 3 times indicating a low battery which seems unlikely. I have switched to the magnet charger now, maybe this might do something, but it might just as well being similar symptoms from an entirely different problem.
I could replace the battery but I wont order one without anyone confirming that it might be the right move
tried reconnecting the battery like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ7nYfN_4eE
in fact with the disconnected battery I get red flashes but on reconnecting the phone does not boot up.
ordered a new battery..
installed new battery
plugged it into the wall charger, no charging LED
volume up + power gives me the force shutdown 3x vibrate pattern
screen does not turn on
connecting it to the pc with vol up, vol down, nothing pressed does nothing
help me please, I don't know what else to try?
Have you tried the original Sony flashing tool, maybe it works at a lower level before recovery kicks in?

Hey there. I found a bit old phone in my house, Huawei G730-U10 with MTK6582. Here's problem:
Phone won't turn on at all (no reaction) with battery in and USB out.
With battery in and USB in (connected to charger or PC, no matter what), at first it turns on red led that stays still, and after some time it starts vibrating with interval of about 10 seconds and PC sees it for 2 secs (it connects and after 2 secs - disconnects), then everything repeats. I assume it's bootlooping, but there's no anything on screen (it doesn't even turn on, full darkness). This continues even after taking out USB, only way to stop it - take out battery and place it back.
With battery out and USB in, red led starts blinking with very quiet beeping (very very very quiet).
As you could guess - recovery, fastboot and other things aren't working.
I've checked main board, everything is ok, connected and working fine.
I think there's problem in ROM (not firmware ROM, but ROM that's read-only memory). Something's wrong, maybe there's wrong preloader (or there's no preloader at all), maybe boot partition is damaged, I don't know.
Service center tried to fool me on buying new board for 100$ (althrough it costs 40 on aliexpress), I think they didn't even look at it, so I can't trust them.
I don't need suggestions like "try to flash new rom", you think I didn't try? How is this possible if I can't make PC to see phone for more than 2 secs? Flashtool isn't working even without battery mode.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks for help.
