Nexus 9 model by serial number - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello friends,
I am planning on purchasing a Nexus 9 and from my understanding you can identify if the model is a bad one (light bleeds, bad buttons). I was wondering if anyone knows the starting serial number of the Nexus 9 which does not have any of these issues.
Thanking you.

There is no guarantee, but models starting with "HT5" (meaning built in 2015) are probably recent enough to have all the kinks worked out. (HT51 = Jan, HT52 = Feb, etc.)

[Q] Nexus 2012 / Nexus 2013 which one do I have.

I got a ASUS Nexus 7 from ASUS in Feb of 2013. Now I am working with it and keep getting asked if I have the 2013 or 2013 Nexus 7. My question is simple and probably obvious, how do I tell which model I have? I have looked on line and they all look much the same, and have yet to find a way to tell them apart......

I have a SGP 771 in the U.S., came from overseas - Upgrade help

Hey guys!
I used to be pretty involved with XDA as I own Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9 and Pixel XL. I work for an electronics distributor and we have sold Sony tablets for years. This tablet came from e-bay or Amazon before we could order through the Sony channel. It came with a Bluetooth keyboard with Korean? symbols on it.
That's the background:
So the tablet is currently running 5.02 and checking for software updates gives me nothing.
Build number: 28.0.A.8.251
Kernel has a date of Aug. 19, 2015
My question is whether this is a special build and why I can't seem to update it. Not that familiar with Sony's software for updates but when checking this build it seemed to show as a demo version and didn't have anything for a more recent update file.
Can anyone give me any background? I'm not necessarily looking to root it, I just want to update it to the current software (Android M?).
Thanks for any help or tips!
Maybe the bootloader is unlocked. Check the service menu.
With unlocked bootloader there are no OTA updates any more.
You can flash any suitable ROM with Flashtool. This software comes with XperiFirm to download the ROMs.
If it is really a demo unit (they run different ROM-versions though) I would return the tablet.

I've run into the same problem. Moreover, I have found that when I type in my tablet's IMEI at http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/software/ the page responds with 'No information available'
Seems to be a problem at Sony.
Please, contact the Sony Mobile support so that they can fix it. The more requests they receive, the faster they will fix it

How likely is the Huawei MediaPad M5 8 to get Android 10?

What are the chances? I know it released last year and it has been updated to 9.0, here in the UK anyway. But I want to know if it is future proof for at least the next android version. How are Huawei with updates?
My answer is based on someone in the US with a US M5, there is not a snowflakes chance in hell it's getting it. [emoji3]

To get 10 you first need to get 9.

9 is rolled out widely, but in the US. Nevertheless I doubt that we will see Android 10 from Huawei. Lucky are only those who were able to unlock their bootloader as they can use the GS images and will probably have Android 11 and ...
I saw a list of devices getting the emui 10 and only the Mediapad M6 was on it, so highly unlikely the M5 will ever see it.
haha doubt it, mine haven't even been updated to android 9... Never mind 10, its the 4g model... last update was August security patches
It's a great little tablet but still being stuck with 8 (here in the US, anyway) sucks. That lack of continuity among devices (10 on my Pixel 3XL and 4XL) is probably the most frustrating thing about living in the Android ecosystem.
My M5 10 has had official Android 9.1 for quite a while now. My latest security patch is from october this year.
I have read that the M5 Lite 8 has Android 10 available as beta in some zones, although I don't know if the sources are good.

Hi,
can you post the source please?
I have M5 10.8 LTE and I have EMUI9.1 since August 2019 and still received a few day ago security patch october 2019.
I have no insider knowledge on this, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility. On one hand Huawei have released a comprehensive list of devices to get 10 and the M5 isn't on it. But on the other hand, Huawei have a reputation to fix after the Trump/Google ban debacle, and the pinned tweet on their UK Twitter account says that they are committed to Android updates for existing devices. It wouldn't surprise me if they extend their 10 rollout just to rebuild their rep.
I inquired Huawei UK regarding EMUI 10 (as I asked specifically for my 8.5 LTE) and the customer support replied regarding the matter and said that "the software should be with you by the end of January (2020)."

LG V521 vs LG V530 anyone ?

the internet says, the V530 CAN get android 8-point O. since these devices are similar ( build number is the same, but the processor is NOT )
would it be a nightmare to port the V530 ANDROID 8, to a V521?
the V521 is nothing special, but to me , its a super useful tablet. the IR blaster is nice when needed, and the full USB port is why i happen to enjoy this little econo-box. ( V521's can be had on auction sites for 20-30 bucks )
a full size USB port on an ANDROID tablet is rare, and highly welcomed. i also belive the V521 has a built in DAC (similar to the V20 phone)
anyone have any thoughts or ideas ?
I have the G Pad X2 8, and currently sitting on 7.0, and had previously bought another G Pad x2 8 (both v530) that had 8.0 on it. 8.0 when compared to the 7.0 was sluggish, not very responsive, had a much shorter battery life. The battery life might have been attributable to wear and tear on battery though. Perhaps most importantly, the pad with 8 always had a lot of crackling in the external speaker/battery. BUT, the 8.0 had phone enabled and not limited to just data over LTE. I don't know how seller (ebay) was able to accomplish.
I kind of miss the pad running Android 8, but I can make calls under 7 using talkatone or similar. I certainly don't miss the shorter battery life and noisy external speaker.
You might consider finding the source code for LineageOS 15 (Android 8?) for the v530, and recompile for different processor in your v521. Hope that made sense. I am happy with OEM 7.0 (Build NRD90U) on my v530. I don't remember build number on the 8 - it died a horrible death during an accident involving my pickup and airport shuttle...

Each year it was a standard that flagship device received new Android in December before year end.
It is almost end of December and no any signs of new Android :/
