So I bought a phone (Eris) off Craigslist to flash it to Cricket. I was able to get all the settings right in order to have MMS\3g using EPST and enjoyed it for a while. Unfortunately, I recently moved to a town that does not have Cricket in it, so I installed a new rom and was able to Activate my phone with Verizon. Unfortunately, I have been unable to access 3g on the Verizon network and was wondering if anyone could post the correct settings to use with epst in order to get 3g working.
Please, I have searched for them but am either using the wrong search term or just cant find a thread that has the settings I need.
I am currently using KaosFroyo V32 but by the time anyone reads this I will have reverted to a rom which allows me to use EPST.
Thanks,
Q
So I switched over to the Xtrsenserom and, just as I thought, the settings in EPST are all still setup for cricket service.
Im going to try #228 and see what happens now that Im not on a Froyo-based Rom anymore
Peace...
AAARrrgggghhh!!!
This so sucks!! The ota did not change the settings (or at least not enough to allow mobile internet) It was so easy to find the settings i needed to change in order to have mobile internet through Cricket. Why is it so hard to find the ones to revert back? Under the NAM Name it still says cricket but my MDN is correct but I can tell a bunch of the numbers in subsequent settings are connected to my old Cricket account... Please help!!
It's *228 for one. Which page in EPST do you need?
Ah I figured it out. It had my old number as min and crickets info for login and a few other abnormalities resulting from cricket. I gotta say this version of Android 2.1 I reverted to in order to access EPST is real nice. I don't think im going back to Froyo for a while. I forgot how nice the dialpad is where you can just dial in part of someones name and all the numbers that fit your input start appearing
can you send me the settings you used in EPST for verizon. I think I may be having similar issues.
Use the verizon RUU.
This will put everything back, you can *228, reroot, then restore your nand backup and uninstall auto start.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
You know what, just throw a verizon prl file in there, and you should be able to *228.
Try that alltel verizon hybrids one if you can't find any others.

I'm sorry to bring this thread back up.
I just went through 3 days of frustration on this issue and since this thread is the top google result, I want to help others.
I bought a used Droid Incredible that was flashed to Cricket. We had the phone flashed back to Verizon from a local Cricket dealer. However, my data wasn't working at all. After spending 2 hours on the phone with VZW, I learned of ##778. The rep only went through two menus and only one option was different (home nid/sid). It didn't help changing it, and in fact, everytime I do *228, it just goes back to what was in there originally. So anyway...I found the security menu later that night. Noticed that HDR AN AUTH Password and PPP Password said 'cricket'. I deleted that, reboot, and then saw 1x finally pop up, but it wouldn't stick.
Changing PPP Password to vzw made 1x work, but the connection would constantly try to obtain 3g, and reset the connection so it was still unusable for the most part.
Noticed on the Eris (previous phone), those Password values were encrypted...Google research suggested a painful adventure of memory dumps, etc, etc.
Then I found another post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2563813&postcount=32
I blanked out the two password fields, committed, then went to home sid settings (or home sid profile) and changed network type from simple ip mode to mobile ip preferred. Commit, reboot and bam! 3G was there!. I didn't have to, but a *228 may be necessary. The two password fields got updated automagically and now have encrypted values in them. Life is good.
Edit: just wanted to state that in the middle of trying to get data working, I flashed over the verizon RUU, which didn't help immediately, but may have been a compounding solution.
So i got my phone flashed over to metro today but they screwed up and didnt port over my verizon number. I will be going back thursday to have that done since i need to let 48hrs pass. Will that affect doing anything else?
Currently Web works, SMS but not MMS (they say they will fix this), GPS doesnt work (they say it needs to be updated to google maps 4.7, they will fix this as well), phone calls works, email works, and my MMA news app works. No Marketplace access and apps like TiKL, Wordfeud, Engadget do not work.
What is left to get everything working right? It was flashed over but not rooted so its still relatively "stock" 2.1. Ive found this tutorial...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...an-HTC-Droid-Eris-to-Metro-PCS-(Tutorial-v2.0)
Ive noticed a few apps on my phone that werent there before:
AnyCut
APN Backup and Restore
On one of my screens, theres a Proxy settings thing that when i open it it says
Hostname: wap.metropcs.net
Port: 3128
Whats next for me to do? I guess where do i start in that tutorial? Also, should i do anything since the phone still needs to go back so they can port my old number onto it?

You probably should not do anything until whoever worked on the phone says they are done. They should be able to get the MMS going fairly easily. In the meantime you should DL the Gmaps update and check that the GPS is functional. There are lots of GPS apps that will check signal and signal strength and you may want to DL one of those also.
To DL from the Google Market you will need to use WIFI, most on Metro have no luck with the Mobile Network downloading.
The apps you mention not working probably will not work on Metro. If the app goes out to a site using a specific port it won't work on Metro since to connect to the web you are using a proxy, so the app thinks it can't connect. If the app has a way to be told to use a proxy then it will work.
You should recheck on whether you are rooted .. you probably will find you are since in order to use iptables and the proxy you need autostart and autostart.sh and those cannot be installed on an unrooted phone I think.
In summary after the MMS is working (keep in mind the Metro size limit on MMS, around 240k!!!!) you should be all set.
Ive logged into the market via wifi to check for updated google maps...it says im up to date. I dunno whats going on. So even with that How To guide posted above, apps like Facebook still wont work? How do i check if im rooted? edit: i downloaded a free terminal emulator and typed "su" (without the quotes) and it said "permission denied." I guess this means im not rooted?
Metro size limit on MMS eh? Ill have to look at that. I tried sending a really long text message that normally would have been broken up into several messages (or sent as one large one via MMS) but it would always fail to send. Not sure whats goin on there, it wasnt even a picture or anything.
edit: I know Metro doesnt have alot of 3g coverage but someone said looking at their coverage map and selecting "dual band" shows their 3g coverage and i am well within a 3g covered area according to that. How do i go about getting that 3g/EVDO access going?
My phone is the Boost Mobile XT1526. Running Cyanogenmod 13 by squid2. The latest build.
I've been using the Boost APN found here, and even though it works, its not ideal. I'd rather use the APN that's built into the ROM or the APN I pulled from the stock ROM.
My problem is that, for the life of me, I absolutely cannot get the APNs to stick. The APN that's built into CM13, doesn't stick. It disappears. And if I manually add the APN I pulled from the stock ROM, that disappears as soon as I hit save. I have no clue why. The only APN I can use is the one I linked to above. But that one isn't ideal. But I'll use it if I have to.
Can anyone help me with this that knows more about this then I do? I'd really love to use either the built-in APN or the APN I pulled from the stock ROM, if its even possible.
I have data so that's not my problem. I just can't send or receive MMS messages using the SMS app in Cyanogenmod.
Thanks!
If anything isn't clear then please tell me and I'll try to explain better. I suck at explaining.
Trying to get it to work too!
I'm having the exact same problems. I think it might be an issue with cellular network settings in CM13/MM roms (you'll notice clicking "Carrier Settings" in any of them causes com.android.phone to stop).
I've been playing around with various things, and I've found so far that using the Cypher rom (which doesn't have any Boost stuff baked in) I can put in the APN settings you linked to and send and receive MMS but LTE doesn't work. I then went back to Squid's CM13 rom (which is amazing, btw!) and LTE appears from install but changing any APN setting makes it fall over. Then I tried editing the Boost APN in deega/Buzbee2's flashable zip from "n.boost.ispsn" to "Boost_Mobile". I could flash that, and that does make it "stick" in the APN settings but, again, LTE disappears when I do this. Entries under the "Access Point Names" tab do seem to appear and disappear somewhat randomly whatever I do!
I've tried various other fixes suggested online, from root-deleting the telephony database to trying some SMS programs that let you put in the APN settings manually, but still nothing. I feel I'm close...but not that close I'll keep fiddling and see what happens but I'm not entirely sure whether this is a settings issue or a CM13 issue.
Thanks for replying. I'm gonna do some testing too. I had the same exact issue on CM12.1 so I don't think its a CM13 issue.
I wonder if there's a way to use adb or fastboot to force the APNs to stick?
I tried using the Boost APN I pulled from the stock ROM that Motorola or Boost put there and you'd think it'll work but no. It disappears as soon as I hit save.
I know CM13 has to be using some kind of APN because I have data, but I don't know what that APN is nor why I can't get the SMS app to use it so I can send MMS messages.
I'm confused but I'll figure it out. Maybe. :/
EDIT: I notice too that whenever I tried to get into Network Operators that com.android.phone would FC. I was able to get in there by putting my phone in airplane mode and rebooting. I can take the phone out of airplane mode while I'm in it without it force closing. But I'm not able to do anything. Kept saying "error while searching for networks" or something along those lines. So I just gave up for right now.
EDIT2: I noticed that in the file /data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/com.android.settings_preferences.xml that it had APN settings in there that were blank for the most part. I tried editing that file to add my APN settings but it didn't help.
I've been testing things during the day and my hunch is there's a deeper problem with the LTE implementation in the 6.x roms (and earlier, perhaps, if you had issues with CM12 as well). It's difficult to know if this is Boost/Sprint related only - Buzbee2's flashable fix seems to be working for people on Freedompop and Virgin. I had a few issues today where my phone would be telling me I had LTE connectivity but web pages would give timing-out errors. I switched to Cypher which was solid on 3G where LTE had basically crashed. I sent MMS with manually inputted settings on Cypher again.
So I was left feeling that at the moment it's a choice between fast (patchy?) LTE speeds without MMS or solid (slow!) 3G with MMS. Hmm. It may be that current roms have a issue switching down and up between LTE and 3G...?
Looking at deega/Buzbee2's flashable zip it doesn't seem like it changes much, so it should be a settings issue, just as long as those settings can stick! Trouble is there might be multiple points of failure at present.
I dug up an interesting thread on the Moto G forum where a user who struggled with this on their phone found that Boost requires authentication for MMS over LTE but not on 3G:
Getting MMS to work on LTE made me pull my hair out. Virgin mobile(Boost) working on Sprint networks when it comes to MMS messages is an over complicated issue caused by the providers. When attempting to receive MMS on LTE networks with stock MMS or some 3rd party MMS apps it returns with a "HTTP error: Authorization Required". When trying it on 3G its no problem. Seems they required "Authorization" for MMS on LTE but not 3G - go figure. Hangouts basically works for all because the app itself doesn't use the phones APN settings. It tries (and does) to attain what carrier you are on and use its settings. In our case it will identify you are on the Sprint network and use those APN settings. Why don't we set our phones to the Sprint settings?...no LTE then.

Sounds eerily similar, but his fix file has disappeared into the mists of time and seems to have only worked on certain roms. Anyway, I'll keep digging and hope others might chip in.
I found a file called preferred-apn.xml in the data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/shared_prefs directory where you can set a preferred APN. Least I'm assuming that's what its for. But I need the APN id and I can't find the id for the built-in Boost APN.
I'll keep looking and testing stuff. Hopefully we can get this figured out.
I'm stuck with using 3G where I live. Boost/Sprint doesn't have LTE where I live. So LTE isn't a issue for me.
That's a good find. I think the APN ID refers to the line where you can find the details for the APN in the telephony database. There's some stuff on the Moto G forum about it here.
I'm guessing that the APN settings tab is pulling stuff from the telephony db and that your XML file is telling the phone which is the default. If so, maybe writing to the telephony.db (in the databases folder just along from shared_prefs) might make changes "stick", although if you delete that db it's recreated at reboot so it's not the originator of the data. My feeling is that there's a screwy connection between telephony.db and various other bits of CM13 right now...
Maybe taking telephony.db from a stock Boost rom and copying that in will do something.
I still have a backup of the stock ROM on my laptop. Tomorrow I'll pull the telephony.db and copy it onto my phone replacing the original one and see what happens.
Update:
I pulled the telephony.db from the stock ROM and copied it to my phone, replacing the original and I set the APNs in apns.xml to what I thought the APN should be. I wouldn't recommend it.
As soon as I rebooted CM13 stopped recognizing my sim card and the com.android.phone error popped up and wouldn't disappear. I couldn't do anything. Had no choice but to reboot into twrp and use its file manager to delete the db file. So that's a no go I guess.
I found a program for Linux (also available for Windows) called SQLiteBrowser which let's me open the telephony.db files and look through them. All of the APN IDs are stored in that db file. I'm going to use it to look through the telephony.db file for CM13 and get the APN IDs that I need. Then try to edit the preferred_apns.xml file to set it and see what happens.
EDIT: I'm looking through the telephony.db file from CM13 but there are no APNs in it for some odd reason. Wonder if we can manually add them if need be?
Finally working for me
Buzbee2 made some suggestions on his support thread so I tried them and - to my amazement - everything worked. Not immediately, I had to wait a few hours (for the APNs to be picked up from Boost?) but it did work.
So what I did was first go into airplane mode and entered the Boost_Mobile APN details that you can find everywhere online (and on Buzbee's support thread). When I switched off airplane mode those settings disappeared and those baked into Squid's CM13 (or flashed via Buzbee's zip) came back. Switched on airplane mode again, those disappeared and the Boost_Mobile one I entered and saved is there. I can't believe that's meant to happen, but there it is.
I then downloaded Google Hangouts. I'd heard it sorts out its own APN settings if you set it to be your default SMS program. I could send SMS through Hangouts but still no MMS. I gave up at this point as I had to go out.
Checked my phone a couple of hours later and my MMS sent via Hangouts had arrived. I tried a few more and they all worked. Then I tried the stock messaging app and that could send MMS too! I couldn't believe it. I uninstalled Hangouts (much prefer the simpler app) and went to bed. In the morning, no MMS. Reinstalled Hangouts, still no good. Left it a few hours and - yep! - MMS was back for all my MMS apps. I tested with and without wi-fi, knowing that Hangouts likes shortcuts , and it was all good.
So the moral of the story is...I have no idea. But either Hangouts sets the APNs for the whole rom, or some combination of the Boost_Mobile APN (even though it doesn't "stick") and Hangouts gets it going. Maybe set that up, leave it overnight, and see. It doesn't explain some of the weirdness in the carrier settings, but at least it might work.
I'll try that. ☺
Any luck, Debdude? My phone has not been perfect, with it refusing to switch down to 3G when out of LTE coverage, and MMS mostly sending but sometimes not, but acceptable for something running a cutting-edge rom. It'll hopefully improve as things mature.

Damn. I forgot. My bad. I got busy with my new laptop and my ps2 I just completely forgot about this.
I'll mess around with it in a bit. And try the suggestions you mentioned a couple posts back.
So, I have an unbranded unlocked N8 I bought from Best-Buy assigned to my VZW account that was missing the "Advanced Calling" menu in settings. My wife's branded VZW S8+ has this menu. I tried the guides for other carriers to unlock WifI and HD calling, but alas, none of them worked. (I did however get the camcorder in the phone dial pad, but it didn't do anything) *******Still working on WifI calling**********
I spent hours testing settings in the IMS config via the shortcut app, all with no luck.
TIP: I called big red (VZW) on the phone and told them I bought the phone from bestbuy (didn't mention it was the non carrier unlocked version) and that WifI and HD calling menu wasn't on my phone. She told me my IMS wasn't configured on their end and she would update it. (This did not affect my grandfathered unlimited data plan)
Steps:
1. Call VZW and tell them you dont have access to HD voice on your phone and need help.
2. They will update the IMS on their end.
3. Turn off WifI, turn on mobile data.
4. Reboot and profit.
Ive uploaded a SS of the new option which wasn't there before I called VZW.
*****WARNING****** I seem to have lost the ability in the shortcut app to access the IMS launcher settings. Not sure if the 83mb update I took today caused it or not. Just warning you. I can still get into WifI calling via the app, however, it still crashes every time I get into it.
(Yes I know I shouldn't have taken any updates while we wait on eng. code to be released. Oh well I guess. )

You can always flash back to stock then...as long as it is server side as soon as it provisions, you should still get the goods...and be back to stock...this update does not lock you in...congrats though...
Does your Wi-Fi calling still not work? That's my only hangup of going with the Verizon rom.

Nope; works out of the box with Sprint & T-Mobile; haven't tested my AT&T SIM
You can get into IMS Settings by using Nova Activity launcher; under DEBUG INFO > IMS Information all should be true; if not VoLTE isn't enabled on the account or provisioning isn't completed; this can be done with a simple reboot.
Also; IMS Service Switch, make sure VoLTE Video is on for video calling; if/when VZW uses universal RCS profile you will have access to "iMessage" like features which Sprint/T-Mobile can currently use.
The Sad thing is total wireless morons have no clue what an ims is...

Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately after recent official Oreo software update, can't get into IMS Settings using either Nova Activity Launcher/Shortcut maker or through any other app.
Is there any way to enable "IMS Service Switch" thereafter enable VoLTE so that VoLTE option would appear under Settings->Mobile Networks?
Please suggest.
Thanks.
Bad news, the LTE functionality test hack used to edit apns on S9 and older phones doesn't work anymore. But good news is, if you know your MSL (all 0's for unlocked), you can create new APNs. Just dial ##3282#, put in your MSL, click APN Settings, and create a new APN with the same settings as APN2 LTE ... internet, but add dun at end of APN type.
You cannot modify the APN once you save it, but if you make a mistake, go to general management, reset, reset network settings to remove the APN you added and fix any problems.
Enjoy
EDIT: Updating profile deletes the APN so you should get used to creating new APNs frequently.

I do not believe so but I have not been able to verify yet. I can verify that it does switch APN because mobile data cuts off for a min when you switch to the one you made, and a similar procedure on the S9 did not count on my tethering data. I get 50gb and it didn't count at all, just my normal data. I will test with this new one though.

Just call andtell them you want it if they ask for what tell them you're a developer
Add button is greyed out... I am not unlocked, I used 6, 0's but it let me hit Ok
Hope to find better solutions.
Thanks this worked for me hopefully it sticks without profile getting updated.
How did you edit this my phone will not allow me to edit this its grayed out. I try to add a d it dose nothing
works. :good:
how to get "enhanced LTE" working? so LTE stay connected while on voice call?
It seems that after the new update, I can not change it to my new added apn. Anyone could help?
I just called Sprint and they have me all 0's as my MSL. So means I'm unlocked and I didn't even know. Unless they lied. I'm about to find out when I try this hack.
Update: boo add option is grayed out. I didn't take this newest update and I thought that was the update that prevented adding APN.
If I reset will it reset to the original software version I had when I initially bought phone or the last update?

It will reset to your current update. You could flash older though, as long as the bootloader's haven't changed, which I believe hasn't but could be wrong.

Thanks. I'm going to look for the version I had when I bought my phone 3/12/19.
I think that Hotpot is included with my Sprint plan. Yip I think it's 50gb hotspot.
Disregard.
Following along... MSL 0's, cant "add" anything... I rarely use the hotspot, but at times I *need* it.
Any idea if anyone has broken this yet? I’m in the same boat where even with my MSL the edit functions are greed out.
is this still working?

would love to know if sprint folks still have the workaround for the wifi hotspot. I'm sitting on an unlocked S10 that I haven't shoved my SIM card in yet because I absolutely need the hotspot sometimes...
