Installed safestrap on 3.2.8 - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

hey guys it's been a few years since Iv been rooting devices so im still a little tender on this subject
Found my kindle fire HDX 7 in my draw and decided to see what i could do with it (from when i brought it, it was totally locked)
Spending all afternoon researching and trying different things iv managed to downgrate to 3.2.8 and Root device. There for i obviously installed safestrap after that i followed the instructions to install recovery and so on.... cutting to the chase:
I click install recovery and it installs fine, i reboot to recovery and device reboots from now on after where i guess im suppose to get the recovery i just get a black screen and it sits at that? Any ideas? I can press and hold the off button and it will reboot, go black then disconnect from pc and reboot back into normal kindle o.s.
Any ideas? I hope i made myself clear enough and im not being a fool and not reading something right.
Kind regards
Ashley

There's your problem. You should first fully remove your current version of Safestrap (i.e. don't just remove the app) and download the latest one, which should be 3.75 B02.

[Q] Problem loading Safestrap

Hello,
I followed the below instructions from the attached link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441
The problem I am having is after I use the “Install Recovery" button my phone goes through the install process and prompts me that I have installed Safestrap however the State of my phone says not installed. I assume that Safestrap is not installed did I do something wrong? Thanks
I also attached some screen shots as well. Phone specs: Verizon S4 Saferooted on Build VRUEMK2, Android 4.3
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
1.Requirement: Root
2.Requirement: Allow APK install from Unknown Sources
3.Download the Safestrap APK
4.Find the APK using a Filemanager tool and open it on your device, then click "Install".
5.(If updating from an existing Safestrap you might be warned that this will over-write the existing installation. Click the "Yes" equivalent to this message.)
6.Once installed, open up the Safestrap application as you would any other app.
7.Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
8.Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
9.From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
10.That's it for the installation! Read below for a brief overview of Safestrap Recovery v3.x

Im gonna give ya the best info i can. Im new to the safestrap stuff so bare with me hopefully someone can tell me if i am wrong.
1st:
On the stafestrap page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45517751 make sure you are using the correct SS for your version. There is a MJ7/MK2 version and a ME7/MI1 build.
2nd
If you have ran and installed SS before you may need to uninstall it before you install the newer version. There is instructions on that in the link i provided also.
PS
Make sure if you get it working that you download the correct Kernel Modules for the baseband you are running. Very important.
Hope this helps, but like i said... I hope i can be backed up on this and if i am wrong that someone can tell me that lol

Im running out of ideas but Im gonna do whatever I can to help you get this going. I may be doing this tonight to my girlfriends phone and I want all to go smoothly .
This may be stuff you have tried so just ignore if you have already. Just gonna make a list.
1. Redownload the APK. Maybe its a bad download and reinstall it in your phone. Uninstall your current version and then reboot phone. Then install the newly downloaded one.
2. If you can, maybe find a little older version of SS and try it.
3. Do a complete wipe of everything on the phone and start clean after the factory reset (as long as you dont mind factory resetting your phone) and then try the SS install. (make sure you can install from unknown sources again)
4.Make sure you didnt deny the SS app superuser permissions by accident
5.Buy me a beer and maybe i can come up with something else?. Just kidding ofcourse :silly:
Ill do what i can to find a solution for ya

Root should not be lost. If it does then you can reroot. Yeah all your app / contacts / settings will be deleted. You can using Titanium Backup to back up all your apps. Gmail can back up all your contacts. Settings, unfortunately you will have to redo all these. Also, what are you using to download the SS APK?

Anyone else viewing this thread have any ideas?
Well this process shouldn't be this hard. What I would do at this point is Odin the MK2 no wipe.. so you keep all your data then use Saferoot again to root the phone. Then re download SafeStrap and try again.
Another thing are you opening up SuperSu so it can update your binary after rooting and before installing SafeStrap?

Never thought of that.
Never really figured basically unrooting and rerooting the phone would help, but hey, anything that will work.
Thanks for the feedback!

I mean I actually don't think you'd even have to Odin back either but at this point might as well just start over fresh.
Then root the phone again and make sure to update the SuperSu binary then reboot and try installing SafeStrap again. Seems like a superuser deal to me. I could be wrong... Just something I'd do to troubleshoot something like this

I am a little hesitant to re-root as I had a problem rooting the first time but I got through it. And I am not familiar with the Odin process but I see it all over the forum. Eventually I know that I need to venture out and learn this if I am going to experiment with the S4 and other roms. At this point in time I don’t plan on changing ROMs do I really need Safestrap? All I am trying to do is this 4.3 Tether Unlock MOD? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512981
As for the SuperSu updating the binary it did prompt me and I allowed it and I am pretty sure it was before trying to install SafeStrap. Thanks

I hope you didn't wipe your stock rom... because that bricks the hdx.
Try to unbrick it. More then likely you will need to return it to Amazon or wait and pray we find a way to fix it. Other members please help.

I agree if u wiped your stock slot without a backup or a good rom to flash on it and you attempted to reboot after you wiped the system in stock...sorry but as far as I know there is no fix for you at least not as of yet. That's why safestrap was developed so you could apply an extra partition to boot system and data from to eliminate screwing up the stock os because currently we do not have a working fastboot or unlocked bl... again thanks to amazon locked ecosystem and lack of thorough research...another warranty claim.. another brick on the wall
Yeah, I haven't seen a response, so need more info. What exactly did you wipe & how? Did you, or do you, have safestrap installed? Sometimes the issue is that it mounts system to perform functions & never unmounts, so you can;t install anything until you use adb to remount or reboot. I need to know exactly what you did & exactly what you had installed & what version of FW you were using to tell you anything.
Thanks all for reply. I hope some one can help me

If you had to read the fire hydrant thread at last at least the last page or two you would know that it is a nonfunctioning Rom.. But if you still have safestrap cycling when you reboot there may be a way to push Hashcodes stock base to SDcard ... Why would you attempt to install anything to your stock slot? That is why we have safestrap because we have no fast boot ability . Or if you did not wipe your stock slot you should be able to activate it and boot up stock.

Correct. I recommend not attempting a downgrade. You run the risk of bricking. Thank you for posting in Q&A.

What is ur original base? That you got updated to..? Do you try safestrap 3.75 b02? And are you trying to flash onto your stock slot or have you created a slot? Ok and if you had read the threads you would discover they will not boot or will not work and less you flash over the top of a back up of stock or restore your data from a stock Backup.. if yo are still 13.3.2.3.2 the only Rom that will work for you is the new thor for 13.3.2.4
thank you for your reply. I did all steps you mentioned about but are u sure I should use the 13.3.2.4 rom? because that post warning that the new thor rom only can use on 13.3.2.4. but I think I can restore it even something bad happen right?

But you did not read the thread did you? If you had you would have discovered that many people are using it on the same system you are on . You should be reading nearly entire threads on anything that you are interested in doing to this device .And of course only do anything with a slot never your stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786190. And of course you can always restore a backup.

NK1 id the newest. Your options are root using the one root method for NK! In the general section of this forum, then use SAFESTRAP recovery from that same thread, then flash a touchwiz ROM from the Dev section of this forum, or if you want Google Edition style, check out KitPop (My ROM).

I tried that when I was on your rom and the install never worked. Thats why I used odin to go back to NK1 but I'm stuck in a loop process android.process.acore at setup. I'm lost not sure how to get back to stock or even your rom all i can do is odin. If i could get past this process android.process.acore loop.
Do you have a odin file for your rom?
Got my phone back to stock. I used the Full Wipe ( AKA Emeregency Repair) located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172
Thanks,
Chad

FireOS does not like alternative launchers. While experiences vary few (if any) work without modifying system files which you really don't want to do. Best option to go with a different rom. Your choices and the tools needed to pull it off will depend on the version of FireOS currently on you HDX. Nexus v2/V4 and CM11/12 can run nearly every launcher in the Google Play store w/o incident.

Edit: try installing Apex or Nova from apkmirror which sometimes can help regain temporary control so you can remove google now. If you can get past the language screen try enabling adb access (usb debug) in the settings panel. You'll need that if you loose control of the UI. If possible avoid use of the home button which will invoke the stock launcher and bring you back to the language screen. You'll then have to reinstall Apex/Nova to regain control. This can be a tough nut to crack on FireOS hence the alternative ROM recommendation.
Long shot: try "Home Switcher" by twisted apps to set the launcher of your choice. This saved my butt on more than a few occasions on various devices with limited options - but it's old and may not work on a HDX.
yeah i just fixed by factory reset via adb. thanks anw
one more question: can i install safetrap 4.0.1 when in 13.3.2.4, my kindle has only been rooted and doesnt have safetrap?????????

No, and you'd be far better off by downgrading to 3.1.0, installing TWRP, optional updating bootloader to 3.2.3.2, and unlocking the bootloader then.
Take a look at this thread.
With 3.2.4 you must use Safestrap 3.75, other option would be to update to 4.5.2, root, and install Safestrap v4, but TWRP & unlocked bootloader would open the wonderland of HDX ROMs for you.
install safetrap 3.75 - factory reset- copy 3.1.bin to storage and update. is this the right step ro roll back to 3.1.0??????

No, install Safestrap 3.7.5, then follow the points mentioned here, i.e. flash the rollback image to the stock slot, do a factory reset, etc. - Keep WLAN off/flight mode enabled at all times! You don't want to get updated by Amazon.

Yes, the rollback file is just a 3.2.4 with edited version info, so it identifies as 3.0.9 in order to get the "update" to 3.1.0 working, which is a downgrade then of course.
After the downgrade to 3.1.0 you can install TWRP, and flash the 3.2.3.2 bootloader update via TWRP, then unlock the bootloader.
Yeah thank you. I just had it yesterday and had never used any devices like it before. Fire os is such a problem for me

You need to go with Safestrap v3.7.5 with that version of FireOS. SS v4 will brick your device. One installed you only have one (excellent) rom choice: Nexus v2.0.5. I can't post links from my current location but you can find the relevant threads in the HDX Android Development forum.
You can also downgrade FireOS, flash twrp and then unlock your bootloader. More upfront work but ultimately gives access to the full complement of HDX roms including Nexus v4, cm11 and two variants of cm12. Also vastly superior recovery capability should something go wrong.

What do you mean by "full wipe"? You were supposed to do a factory reset, i.e. the standard wipe. If you wiped system, your HDX is bricked.

Nothing, sorry. Wiping system in Safestrap 3.7.x is lethal.

Confirmed - there is no known recovery from this situation with a locked bootloader. Sorry for your loss.

Amazon will not repair the device. However, you may be offered a one-time exchange for a refurbished unit if it still within warranty and the purchaser is in good standing. Simply state the device attempted to upgrade and got stuck at the grey Kindle logo (factually true). No need to go into specifics.
I just bought it on 14/8/2015 and it still looks new 100℅. Do all devices sold have one year warranty? P/s i'm from germany

Standard Amazon device warranty is 12 months. You should contact Amazon to confirm eligibility and return/exchange logistics.
