Just bricked my Dell Venue 7 3740 with some Build.prop modding and flashed the unbrick image to recover it.
After System boot Hangout asked me to set it as the default SMS App. I then checked and there was the stock sms/mms app.
I immediately tested the sms function and send an sms and it got send to my phone.
Then i saw that even the Phone app is visible. Without a blink i tested it and i could make a phone call.
I am now testing to update the System to 4.4.4 cause the Unbrick Image is 4.4.2.
I will report if this Version has also Phone and SMS support when its finished
And yes, even that the baseband has 3.5G in its name LTE is working fine.
Edit: First OTA to 4.4.4 and both are still there and working.
Edit2: Last OTA, it still works.

my venue 7 3740 is rooted.
i tried to do that with xposed and sms+tethering enabler, but after install xposed the device can´t reboot.

are you using mtnl sim in your tablet cause I am using the same and have the same error of ciphering but don't know of call broken problem as you say.
ciphering is something related to mobile internet which is when disabled it shows the error but when enabled the error is gone.

So this is my sisters phone and Im trying to fix it for her. The phone was locked when our little sister failed to open it too many times (my sister had the graphical lock enabled). My sister then took it to a phone store which managed to fix the lock (updating it from 1.6 to 2.1) but in the same process they somehow managed to make the phone block calls and text. They told her that it had "been blocked"..?
She after that she cant send or receive texts, cant make or receive calls but she can surf via 3G.
What is wrong?

So I've tried both to re-flash (with flash tool) the phone and to restore it with SEUS. None worked. First after using the Flash tool the phone got stucked in a boot-loop. At this points I tried SEUS but it would just get stuck and then tell me that the restore had failed. At last I managed to get back into a working phone when I went down to 1.6 using ROOT_F3V3 (I dont know if I did the whole flash procedure right but right but when it was done the phone started fine but the text and call issues persisted). So then I tried SEUS again and this time it worked so now I got a fully updated and restored phone. BUT STILL: it cant text, make or receive calls. Is there any next step? Any method which I haven't tried yet? I stumbeled upon something called xRecovery. Could that help me? Or is the phone pretty much bricked...

Try it with a different sim card to make sure that it's not something related to the mobile account.

I've tried 3 different Sim cards
Go to Settings > Wireless settings stuff > mobile provider > Choose your network manually
I dont know how it's called, in english because my phone is in dutch. But somewhere there you can choose manually a network.

Changing carrier doesn't change anything for me...
Try flashing a custom rom via xrecovery there is a sticky in this section specially made for "android noobs" like you and mate no offence

hi everyone! i need help... I accidentaly deleted my dell streak system dialer using titanium backup. when i try to restore it, it doesnt work. I cant receive call and sms and my 3g is not working but I can use wifi, when I tried factory resetting it, it only make it worse.. when i reboot my phone it stuck on the "Welcome to Dell Streak. Touch the android to begin." What should i do to fix my streak? really need your help on this.. Thanks!

Touch the android to begin of course . You factory reseted your device, so now you have to set it up again.
A factory reset only wipe out data. You're still missing the dialer app from system.
Find the apk somewhere and push it back to system/app or wherever it reside.
Of course I touch it but noting happens. Just stuck on that.

Hello Experts i need some help, I'm Newbie for android smartphone my first Android Smartphone is Dell Venue but i had some problems please help me
1. sometimes my phone is crashed (I Don't Know why) and stuck at dell logo. When that happens i usually removed battery and waiting 30-60 min
and its working perfectly for 3-4 ours and its crashed again and again.
2. i cant call anybody well its says connection problem or invalid MMI Code, i can only do text message or receiving calls. that's the big problem
3. can i install ubuntu in my dell venue ?

Following is the solution
1. Factory reset
2. Network issue (possible)
3. No ,, no ubuntu
Already installed 10.1-20131020-nightly p4 for a GT P-7500 3G unfortunately the phone application is not working at all ! I can't send or receive even though the 3 G data connection and messages workin fine, once try to call it gives a peep sound then closed , when I tried to call the tab it seems that the number it's not even existed as nothing at all, any help

1. Install through CWM modem i9103XXLQ3 zip which you can get here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1875024.

Hope this solves it.
There is a problem with some MTK phones.
In short: If you recieve and SMS with equal sign "=" phone will reboot.

This is the case with my P780. I've tried to uninstall all sms aps, install 3rd party apps, nothing is helping. Phone can reboot even without displaying any notification abut new sms message.
W would like to trace this and possibly do something to eliminate this "feature".
Maybe you will have some good ideas, maybe we can find the reason together.
What should i test first? Changing baseband maybe?

Tested. On my phone Lenovo p780 with stock S228 made before 03.2014 and my wife Lenovo P780 made before 03.2014. Sended = sign and nothing happened.
Here are the configuration of our phones
1. Stock S228 mine and S227 my wifes
2. Modified modem software Xakeps.
3. Removed software like Drive... etc etc
4. Updated Lenovo ideaFriend to version 3.1
5. Rooted SuperSU v. 2.45 from ChainFire
6. Custom recovery TWRP
7. BusyBox ....
