Increase Mobile Data Speeds - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi,
Do we have any mods or tweaks that could increase mobile data speeds?
I am running Lollipop so a working mod or tweak for this frameware would be great.
TIA!

Android has nothing to do with speed it's your Carrier/plan
Do you have unlimited late?

Well there is a mod that claims to speed up Data Speeds and it also claims that it is a known Linux speed tweak.
Yes, I do have unlimited connectivity.
Currently running Lollipop as mentioned and following that mod doesn't seem to have any effect.

Lmao that's for 2.3-4 do you have GB on your ultra? That was written 3 years ago.
If you have T-Mobile you can use fast instead of epc

Yea I know that was an old mod the reason I am asking if there is any known mods for the "up-to-date" versions of Android.
Thanks anyway, glad you noticed my question.

If you want faster speed do a Google search for your carrier's APN.
Pro tip
Unlimited lte is 80 from T-Mobile

Android on the Cricket Android plan "Easy Web and MMS Fix"

This thread is for the talk about Android phones on the Cricket wireless Android plan. I have started this thread out of respect of "token419" to keep his thread Clean for his support and development.
If you signup or change your plan to Crickets Android plan you no longer need a WAP proxy. MMS well also work with only the need to setup your APNs. Your internet well be much faster in most cases 2x as fast.
It although can be a large pain in the A** to get cricket to make the appropriate changes to your account. There are people around the internet that can and well make account changes for a small fee. It can be done with out having to resort to that though and can take many I repeat many calls to cricket to get this done. some say all you have to do is request to be put on the "ADR Smartphone All In $55" plan. Others like my self also got there phone type listing changed form CPE "Customer Provided Equipment" to the "Kyocera M6000".
ONCE YOU GET YOUR SELF ON THE ANDROID PLAN:
Don't forget to remove your "autostart.sh" and your "u2nl". autostart.sh is in /data/opt and your u2nl is in /system/bin. Or you could simply remove autostart and reset your phone.
Please post your successes
I plan to upgrade to this plan. I have an incredible and my girlfriend has a hero. My incredible can access the internet and apps work but no mms. The hero can't access anything or send mms.
I got my data working from one of the zip files token419 uploaded will these apns work even though MMS isn't working at this point? Also not having anything work on the hero I am assuming something is wrong in the pst settings but I can not access epst from ##778# I can from ##data# but I don't think all f the needed settings are there. Any thoughts?
Thanks

The APNs form Token's .zip Should work, they did for me.
On my eris some ROMs don't support diagnostic dialing. Ported froyo ROMs in my experience defiantly don't. It's more then likely the same for the Hero. your best bet is to flash to a rooted stock rom or some kind of plainJane rom then do your epst settings.
Also if you can dial ##diag you could change the appropriate pst settings from something like QPST.
whats the speed difference between the android plan and the unlimited 45 plan(which im on)?
My speeds are averaging about 500kb(download) and about 600-700(upload)...is there that much a difference? And you said MMS should now work even on AOSP roms? im on CM RC1 and was wondering this before i changed over my plan to the android plan.

I average about 1150kb (Download) and about 650kb (Upload). I'm not 100% sure about MMS on a AOSP Rom. Please let me know if you find out.

Yeah it's weird I tried it on both 1.5 and 2.1 stock roms. I tried using qpst with no change maybe I missed something. I am used to flashing WM phones from the phones epst settings so qpst was new for me.
The hero is stuck saying "turning on...." for the mobile network could something else be causing this?
Thanks
ok so i think i got that all taken care of finally. so a fresh installed rom with the normal apn changes made are all thats needed now?
mms still leaves me with some questions specially when dealing with sprint roms and the evo since i know the aosp cm6 still puts sprint in the banner unless i change the eri.xml file and the stock messenger def has sprint things in it but we will figure that out soon enough

Hmm... I don't know I'v never had that problem. In my experience flashing a WM and a android Phone are almost identical processes. Maybe on your hero you should flash over a factory rom with a factory radio return it to a completely stock phone and start over???

I don´t have the infinity plan, as any pre-paid plan is a waste of money, no matter what country you live in. Instead I have Liberty +50 (post-paid) and pay 29.90 for "unlimited" data plan (well, we all know they lower the speed after 4 GB);
This said, it won´t make any difference on data transfer rates. What makes difference is where you live, and how good is the 3,5G coverage.

well actually i have unlimited traffic with my prepaid plan (0,50 R$ all day long) and it's quite ok for me: 80% of my calls are made via sip so a postpaid would be a waste of money.
Anyway, of course that speed depends from coverage, that's why u should test in same place with the original and the modded build.prop to see if there is any difference; some guys in the original post had impressive improvements.....
boosting speeds
Dear Kiwi..,
thanks for sharing.
Best wishes.
Ok, here are the details:
Test location: São Paulo, Brazil
Operator: TIM (3G - H)
Software used: speedtest.net for Android (available on the market)
Location (for those who know): Tatuapé
Server used for testing: Jundiaí
Upload/download with mod: 262kbps/1150 kbps
Upload/download without mod: 256 kbps/980 kbps
Verdict: no influence at all. At least for mini pro
Didn't work here; tested 3 times without mod and 3 times with mod.....nothing at all.
Anybody can actually confirm that this is working with mini?

Well, seems we were the first to test it, so so far we can confirm it doesn´t work. I tried to play with numbers, and nothing. This seems to be an old shtick, btw. It has been discussed way back in 2009 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595291 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595108
But... my phone is unbranded. I wonder if someone with branded phone has any of the ro.ril.XXX entries in their build.prop and if yes what are they? Can you guys check, please?
PS Rikirix. out of curiosity, were you TIM speeds comparable to mine?
thanks mate!
@vlissine: i had 270/450kbs..... here in Fortaleza 3g sucks! I've got much better values in Rio, more or less as yours.
BTW, my mini is unbranded and didn't get these ro.ril entries so i just added the code at the end of the build.prop file......but i was almost sure that wouldn't work....
Update I took out all lines leaving only these two:
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=10
The upload speed went from 260 to 360
The download speed from 980 to 1150
Changing it to 12 took it back to 260/980
And of course it makes sense because X10 mini pro officially is a class 10 terminal, so any value above 10 was making no sense.

try inserting only these 2 lines
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=10
and reboot TWICE - I mean turning power on and off and not by using a soft reboot program. Also when you edit build.prop don´t forget that you leave permissions the way there were.
Let me know how it goes.

Try changing ro.ril.hsxpa=2 to ro.ril.hsxpa=1 (as it is network dependant parameter). Also don´t forget to reboot twice.

Thanks for the input vlissine, but i found no differences after 2 times the reboot and hsxpa changed.. :-/ Guess it's already on the XL's speed quota.. But i find the latency dropped though.. so nice having this mod in mine.
EDIT: haha silly me, it is deliberately limited by XL to 384kbps.. Damn.. But again, if the bandwidth is not limited, then i guess the whole network in Indonesia will be a drag to use.. :-/

New-T-Mobile Radio/Modem Thread

To All, This is a new thread dedicated to trying to resolve the known problems with the current Hacked Radio/modems we all have experienced.
Please do not post already known issues over and over I will delete them. The Effort is to keep this thread clean and up to date with newly discovered fixes an/or new bugs.
Both Allgamer and I have a Note so any developer that needs something tested pm us and we will assist you as best we can
The issues we all seem to have experienced Are:
1. Dropped calls, this is a big issue... need to phone to never fail us..... especially for those who are business dependent.
2. Low up load speeds
3. Inconsistent data speed issues
4. Data dropping
5. Battery Drain/heat issues
If there are other specific issues that arise please post and I will itemize in the OP. Let's see if we can draft the assistance of a developer (s) who are excellent with radio/modem hacking. We are close to a final fix let's try to get across the finish line to 100% success.
Thanks to All who have to date helped in the quest of finding a perfect fix.
SPECIAL THANKS to All who paid the bounty..... kept your word....... and helped in any other way...... It REALLY warms the soul to know our community can come together and follow through on commitments......... Thank you all.... Oka1
Allgamer posted this for a fix for some : In case anyone still have the drop call issues, here's a good work around http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...77&postcount=2
RESERVED.....
Thank You
I just wanted to give Thanks to the guy that made this happen! I wasn't part of the initial bounty, but I sent him some cash! I love this device and just wanted to say Thank you!
can't wait to see
what comes out here.
Wasn't there a few people who started a new bounty for the 100% properly working radio fix? Could the OP please add them to the first post and maybe keep a running total with names like the original bounty?
Also, are there any radio/modem developers who could give me a few tips on how to start working on this? I opened the radio files all gung-ho like but as they are binary I have no idea what's what in there
(Or, if a radio/modem developer is considering working on this, let me know and I would like to help and donate $20 if we are successful )
I just wanted to say thanks for making this happen first.
Second, I used the updated build.prop that was posted from the guy who figured this all out and then flashed my phone with the Telus radio even though I'm on T-Mobile. I am pleased to say this combo works PERFECT for ME.
I am getting download speeds of around 10Mbps and upload speeds are usually around 2 to 3Mbps. This is plenty fast enough. Also the data switching is instant between edge and 4g if I go out of a 4g area. My signal is also just as strong as other T-Mobile branded phones by looking at the dB level of the signal.
If you are having issues I would encourage you to try this combo. I am perfectly happy with my Notes performance.
The OP is a forum moderator and as per their rules, they cannot condone or participate in bounty threads. A separate thread would have to be started.

i agree it's working pretty good for me as well
i'm still undecided which radio is better KID or Telus
they both seems o be doing great
in my end the limitations is mainly due the service provider, even on my T989 i can't get good upload speed, and download speed is the same on both my T989 and i717
so from my point of view, it's as good as it'll get
the only bug i frequently encounter is the data getting hung
which thanks fully the NoBar took care of that issue for me, if there is no signal for more than X amount of minutes it'll restart the radio for me to catch a new signal

Silly question, I gues not all AT&T Notes are created equal? I tried flashing the KID modem and my Note was very unhappy. It started up but it was stuck in an unholy lag. I tried everything but it was not until I flashed one of the other 2 modems that it went back to normal. I am trying the Telus/build.prop combo and the download is a LITTLE better at just under 4Mps with still the lousy upload speed. I live in northern Delaware.

Shouldn't have any lag in the operation of the phone. It is likely that the KID modem you are using was the original T-Mobile zip and not the modded one.

I don't notice any kind of heat issues with this device on any combo I've tried, however I don't play games for hours or anything.
As for battery life, it seems just a tad worse on battery with the build.prop modification and Telus radio but even with worse battery it is still the best life of any android device I've owned. With the data speeds I'm getting the battery life is an ok trade off.

[Q] Need to unlock ATT tethering with custom rom on Atrix 4g

I have a rooted, and radio unlocked Atrix 4g. I didn't install the rom (bough it used), but it says that it is the zch45inxdroid55. I went to the Cairbbean for a week and was using a 3G/4G plan with tethering (go figure that they could get a 2GB tethering plan with calls and text for under $50US, with 2GB more for just over $10 more) and the phone REFUSED to do mobile hotspot or usb tethering. I tried the "ro.mot.entitlement_check=false" trick. the build.prop did NOT have this entitlement line in there originally, so i added it. The APN already has tether in it. I restarted and tried again, with no luck. Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me.
It should be noted that i can use my lapdock already with no problems, just not the mobile hotspot

So there is no way to get this disabled and use the "standard" way of bluetooth or usb tethering. honestly would like a BT option.

h932 and hotspot throttling

Thus far, I've avoided switching to a custom rom on my h932, but now I'm faced with the dilemma of needing to use my mobile hotspot.
Will a custom rom remove tmobile's throttling?
Is there any other effective means of removing the speed limit? I've searched a bit, and it seems like older methods no longer work, so I'm just hoping to garner some tested and current working knowledge from my specific device.
Hotspot is enabled on custom roms with no throttling.

Oh, yeah. I should have said that up front. Rooted. Latest stock rom from npcdotcom. Twrp. Magisk. Everything.
I'd kinda like to stay stock if I could. But, if I had to go to a custom room to defeat throttling then I would.

Sweet. I still hope for a stock solution though.
