Warning: Permanent Screen Burn In From TWRP 2.8.6.1 - G2 General

So I went to do a Nandroid backup in TWRP and noticed it had somehow automatically updated to 2.8.6.1, something I didn't know was possible. So I go to do a backup and the screen starts jumping around with lines all over. I'm unable to see anything else on the screen.
After a few minutes I reboot and low and behold the lines are permanently burned into the screen.
This is a D801
Has anyone ever heard of this happening? TWRP auto updating is a mystery in itself (Was on 2.6.x before) but the permanent screen damage is just miserable.

I think is impossible that twrp autoupdate itself. Did you used flashify/autorec/patch for lollipop?
Blastagator twrp is thermal protected so it will avoid screen damages.

The screen burn disappeared overnight amazingly, now to figure out what's up with TWRP.
Mods, you can delete this thread.

Lucky you, it can't be automatically updated or you need to have some app for it.

you installed a rom or something that updated twrp, mistery solved.
now, the thing is to find what happened to your screen.

That's not from twrp, i've had it after wiping cache/dalvik and having the window with the android is optimizing and counting the apps. After it was finished the white message box was burned in bur disappeared for couple of hours. I think it might be again something related to the temperature.

[Q] Accelerometer stopped working! Please help!

Hi guys I'm on bionix 3 with JACs OC kernel with the latest voodoo and color fix installed. Since I installed the newest kernel my rotation has stopped working in all my apps. I downloaded an app to test my orientation sensor, everything is set to 0. I also dropped my phone after I installed the kernel so maybe that could be the reason...any ideas? Is there a way to test if items software or hardware related? If it is damaged hardware, should I unhappy and go to t mobile? any advice is greatly appreciated thanks!
Revert your phone to complete stock and see if it begins to work again. If it doesn't, then your best bet is to bring it back to Tmo.

thanks ill try to remove the lagfix and ODIN back to stock.
if i were to take it to Tmo and the stock rom didnt fix it, would they replace it under warranty, you think?
I'm almost positive they will replace it. Just don't tell them you dropped it!

Happened to me, requested a new phone because it would not orient even after wiping.
So I get the new vibrant and go to town and wipe again, removing superuser su busybox, when in one app I realize it orients....
It had been on lagfix and orientation worked. I moved it to ext2 on sdcard, orientation worked.
So I blame an app or something else I have not redone on this replacement.
Btw check your compass, stuck at north too isn't it?
Edit: Wasn't me knocking it off the couch if a wipe fixes it.....

some apps automatically put the phone in landscape, like the youtube app once you watch a video, but if you press back and get to the main youtube app page it will stay in landscape but it wont rotate to portrait at all until you get to the home screen which i have locked onto portrait....ill wipe and odin to stock and see what happens, but what did you t-mobile when you gave it to them? and how do exchanges work exactly? ive never done one before with a phone, do they switch you out right then and there or do they mail you a replacement?
Thanks guys for your suggestions =]

If you turn off auto orientation and exit your media apps, phone is in portrait, makes it more usable until you wipe phone.
I am not sure the stores do it past the 2 weeks, you call tmo and they might ask you to try things until they send you a new phone via ups, you put old one in a box and put the return label on and drop it off at a ups store to send it back, if you take more than 7 days, you get to pay for the replacement
pretty painless process unless you are impatient and say sure, charge me $21 for express shipping.
hm ODIN'd back to stock, works like a charm, thanks guys! must have had a bad flash or something...

doubtful, it's something else, i have not flashed anything since the update.zip to root it, and it failed to orient long time after that, wish i knew what did it

Hmm that is strange, but there were a lot of weird things happening when I had the rom and kernel combo I had before. I had long wake up lag, intense battery drain, and no rotation, but I odin'd, rooted, flashed the same things again and everything works fine now, I even titanium restored some apps and settings ran fix permissions and nothing weird happening yet. Idk what could have caused it before...
My accelerometers are very flaky -- I have been assuming it's related to my nearly-useless compass and my completely non-functional GPS. I use "Digital Speed" whenever I drive my '55 (which has a broken speedo cable at the moment) and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Completely random, even after a fresh reboot.
Same problem here. Running Bionix 1.4. First noticed a problem when I installed a game that needed tilt to operate, it wouldn't work. Then I checked and the homescreen won't flip. Test apps show "no data" or "INIT" and no actual values for the sensors. I'm using the OC Voodoo version, is this a common thread with the problem?
Don't restore system setting from backup. It can kill the orientation. This is my experience.

Didn't.
I upgraded to Bionix 1.5 without Voodoo and the problem is gone. I thought maybe the 1.5 update fixed it, but another user is reporting the problem while on 1.5. I believe the Voodoo kernel is to blame at this point.

A full wipe worked for me, then again i never used anything too crazy. His experience suggests you should try it, oddly enough for me running the calibration tool, the error message talked about a stale nfs file
Reminds me of deleting battery statistics to reset the battery meter on other phones......and the full wiping/odin flashing nukes it.
Everything works fine on the replacement too with the same apps and fixes (minus lag fix) as before (orientation working wasn't found to be working before i already got a replacement on order :/ ), only thing i hate is gmaps 4.5.1 causing a load of 8.x+, enough to once get everything killed (uptime did not change although everything was reloaded, media was scanned as if it had rebooted) and a shut down the other time.

[Q] CyanogenMod freezing and/or rebooting

Hello all
After the recent nightly builds following the last monthly update (4.4.2 KK) I keep facing an annoying problem. The device keeps on getting unresponsive especially when I try to drop down the notifications panel. Then the device gets locked, sometimes changing the background and clears all open apps from the cache, where opening the app already was opened will have the app launched as if it was closed and not already in the background.
Besides, the device can make a soft reboot (showing CM logo and reloads the system without doing a full reboot).
Any idea what the problem could be? Any solutions suggested outside doing a full wipe?
Thank you very much!

It must be a newly introduced bug, though on my nook I just wait till it fixes itself and un-freezes - there's none of the other stuff you mention. Course I have a recovery backup where it sounds like you don't. Save you a lot of pain to make recovery backup before flashing updates.
I'm still trying stuff to see if there's a workaround, but probably need to wait for it to be fixed.
My only problem is still the camera (google camera) after taking some photos (2-10) it freez and i got can't connect camera errors, only restart mobile is solution.

[Q] How to troubleshoot random reboots on stock ROM - Galaxy Note 3?

i've recently been encountering random reboots on my Galaxy Note 3 (N9005), on stock 4.4.2 ROM.
The reboot occurs regardless of time, foreground/background running apps, battery level and anything else i can think of. for instance, it can just instantly hang+auto-reboot while i'm browsing facebook, surfing on chrome, switching tracks on poweramp, or even when the screen is off doing nothing (deep sleep)!
I've tried to uninstall some of the recent installed apps, but still unable to find any culprit. is there any way i can identify the culprit, without resorting to factory-reset for my device? i spent a lot of time doing the configuration for each app that i use, and wouldn't want to repeat the whole process..
Thanks in advance for your help!
could anyone help please?
Only way to know would be to get a logcat or last_kmesg. You might try something like this since it is so random:

i downloaded aLogRec as requested and recorded the log for the entire day.
this is the log for the first 16hours - i opened it with notepad++ and the log was super short - is it normal?
Link 1
this is the log for the next few hours, where the random reboot occurred halfway - seems that it's empty. does that mean there's no way for me to know how the reboot came about?

Yea, that app definitely didn't work. Not really sure why. But other than catching it in the act using the logcat, whether it is another automatic one or just the manual way via the phone or computer, there's no other way to tell. You do know that you can backup most of your apps and settings with a variety of tools? It won't make everything perfect, but cuts the time of restoring your phone after a factory reset way down. I literally wipe my entire phone and reset it up like 3 times a week on average. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to an hour depending on if I just need it usable or exactly the way I like it.

thanks for the reply. got a few questions:
1. other than aLogCat, any other app i can try to catch the random reboot in the act?
2. yes, i could backup all my apps+settings using TB, but would i also be restoring the 'random reboot' in this case as well?
3. another symptom just occurred and i'm not sure whether it's relevant to the random reboot. after the random reboot (or so it seems), all my saved WIFI passwords get forgotten, and i need to re-enter the passwords for it to auto-login to my home/office network. i also realize it loses one of the settings i previously adjusted in Developer Options - the transition animation scale was set to 0x last time and set back to 1x.. but when it random reboots nowadays, it will just default back to 0x (which isn't the correct default).
i'm so frustrated at the number of problems my phone is facing right now..

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.lcex - looks pretty solid and more updated than the other one.
Possibly, but since we don't know what caused it, no way to know. What you do is backup everything, reset, then test, then start to add apps back in and test. Sucks, but just one of those things. Software issues can be tricky because there are so many different factors in play.
But it seems like this might be an issue with certain Samsung phones with batteries that are not performing as they should:

alright, will try the Extreme version and hopefully it catches the culprit.
As for the battery problem, it doesn't seem like the same case as mentioned in the other thread - he had a reboot loop and crazy drain, both of which are not existent (luckily) symptoms on my end.
Your issues could definitely be explained by battery issues though. Have seen stuff like this before at my shop. Batteries are less than $10 typically and worst case, you have a spare battery so if you go out and about and the phone dies, you don't have to run to a charger / outlet.

I was experiencing random reboots on the stock ROM for my KFHD when I was running stock. Turns out it was caused by me adjusting the DPI to a custom value.

that could be one possible cause as I have certain preset dpi's for apps using Xposed.
any other possibilities and any other way to avoid it?

The only thing I can suggest is resting the DPI to stock, unfortunetly. Or a DPI that is known to work well with your device.

just curious - did anyone look through my logcat to see if there are other causes? i already restored to default DPI but still experiencing the same issues.

Second Screen Not Working

I updated to Marshmallow using the kdz and tot method, got root no issues. Phone works great, installed su, Xposed V84, again no issues. Was able to restore most of my apps via TiBu, again no issues (except a few minor ones). I'm running Nova Prime for launcher.
I have G4 Tweaks installed and running no issues. BUT, I have no second screen! It happened last night out of the blue. Not sure what is going on or why it happened. It is simply not there either when screen is on or off. I did freeze some apps via TiBu but nothing other than the standard bloat stuff.
I went back to my original, 1st backup before I modded anything and the second screen was there.
Any ideas??
Xposed breaks 2nd screen. There's a fix but I dont know what thread or how to do it since I dont used Xposed.
Just pointing you in the right direction.
Thanks, latest version does not have the issue as I understand so I don't think that's the issue

Xposed 84+ should fix any of the issues with LG software... it's been the case for me, as I currently have a fully functional device with root, Xposed, and all the while being on MM. I haven't seen anyone come across anything like your issue, so you may have to do what I just did to narrow down my issue with WiFi calling and that was to install groups of things and doing a backup in between each group until you can narrow it down. luckily you have a backup where everything was functional that you can start off on. if you do find the culprit, I'd be curious to hear what it was. for my broken WiFi calling, it happened after installing busybox.

This may be a case by case scenario. Xposed 84 almost with certainty, broke my second screen and I had to flash the second screen fix in order to remedy the situation. Been working like a dream ever since.

Thanks guys. Yes definitely a unique experience I'm thinking. I worked my way back from my 1st backup after installing MM. Installed a bit at a time, backed up and kept going. I'm now fully where I want to be and all is well. I did not restore anything from TiBu except some of my basic app data (messaging, phone logs etc). Everything else I did a clean install from Google Play.
If I had to guess, something that I restored the first time via TiBu likely borked the second screen somehow though I really do not what or how.
My best advice to all, be patient! Go slow, install backup, install backup etc.

[HARDWARE PROBLEM REPORT] WebGL issue triggering freeze/complete reboot

Note: this is another issue reporting thread. In case of duplicate or forum location problem, consider (re)moving my post.
Hello,
Months ago I noticed a weird issue in the internal browsing system of the SM-G361F
When I browse to a website using the WebGL integrated API (for exemple: https://get.webgl.org/ ) the displayed shape gets glitchy. Nothing really strange first, just some random blink or short frame flashbacks. But after a time (generally above 30 seconds) the shape become more and more glitchy until the kiss of death: the whole phone process freezes, as nothing respond anymore, then the screen gets shady on some parts and bright on the other, until a kind of bar come across the screen and the phone make a complete reboot without any transition.
I already experienced such thing a year ago, but that was due to a bad root flash that triggered the freeze on any root access request.
The other strange thing is that I discovered it when I ran a web code displaying an "holographic" shape: however, the code worked fine the first times, and I did it long ago; so would this be due to a bad firmware flash or a system harm?
If you own like me a SM-G361F device and are not easily scared (this issue normally doesn't harm the device, it will just freeze and reboot) you can test it by opening the link to the WebGL official website.
Sharing experience about this potential issue would be appreciated.
I also had this issue. I experienced severe jitter in videos, and gifs in the web browser. It seemed to occur randomly, and would sometimes stop after a little while.
I didn't experience the device crashes though, but fixed the video by downgrading "android webview"
Sorry for late reply.

Hello mate!
I must tell you that this happens not only on your device but on SM-G360H Varient too.
In the last 2-3 days i figured it also happens due to high CPU usage and the Kernel goes into panic mode.
Try disabling Kernel panic from apps like LSpeed and see if it helps!
Thanks!

1 more.
If you are on a custom ROM, then remove the AOSP webview for root -> system -> apps -> Webview. And then install Google webview from the playstore and convert to system app(optional).
It may fix the random crashes and freezes. It does freeze but no more crashes
