Hi,
i have samsung galaxy alpha g850f and it is rooted, i want to know that is it safe to update from smart switch.
because when i want to start update a warning popup that says
::: A rooted device may cause updates to fail, unstable mobile phone operation, and/or other problems.:::
so i want to know that is it safe and after update my mobile will still rooted or not?
Current version: PDA:NI2 / CSC:NH7 / PHONE:NI2 (BTU)
Available update
Latest version: PDA: OA2 / CSC: OB1 / PHONE: OA2 (BTU)
No, dont update rooted phone via smart switch download stock image from sammobile and update via odin. (format and factory reset via twrp before and after flashing)

Hello!
I wanted to check how I am sure that I have the latest version available for my phone?
These are the details:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: i9100UHKE2
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-i9100UHKE2-CL188078 [email protected] #2
7TVerdsC
Compilation: GINGERBREAD.UHKE2
Current Firmware Version: PDA:KE2 / PHONE:KE2 / CSC:KD1 (TPA)
Is this the latest one? Is there a way to update if it isn't?
I purchased this phone through a store in US. I live in Costa Rica..
It is Factory Unlocked.. But I've had some issues with it..
For example:
I access on the phone the option de Update Firmware or Check for updates.
It asks me to create a Samsung Account.
I entered all the details and I clicked on "Create Account"
And it loads the Terms and Conditions. I clicked ACCEPT and it goes to a screen that says "Loading" and it goes again to the "Terms and Conditions"... I clicked ACCEPT -> Loading -> Terms and Conditions.. etc.. haha.
Thanks! Any information will be appreciated.
Connect to Kies, it should say if you have any latest firmware available.
Regards.
Newest firmware leak is KG3 which is android 2.3.4 you can install it via odin or wait for a kies release.

As posted Kies will give latest firmware for your phone . That may not be the latest release and may be a few upgrades behind .But it is the one for your phone .
XDA for alternative methods stock rom post dev section ..
You can also try the software update in settings but its yet to roll out worldwide via that OTA method .

i wouldn't use kies for update. i destoyed my sgs 1 twice by flashing an original firmware update. just go to samfirmware.com . U have to register but you can always sure to be up2date. All firmwares are flashable by odin. instructions included.
e.g. newest firmware now is
I9100XXKG3 ## 2011 July 20 - MULTI - CSC - OXAKG3
I'm confused about the right combination of Firmware and CSC to get official updates from Samsung through KIES or OTA. I read that your CSC and Firmware have to match to get KIES support but not for OTA support. It has been sent to Samsung Belgium for hardware failure and came back with a different firmware, same phone. I took screenshots of the info I think is relevant, the screenshot from KIES is when I choose initialise and give my serial number.
Can anyone tell me what the right codes/combination is for me:
Unlocked, unrooted GT-I9300, living in Belgium, bought from a store which origin is in Netherlands. So I might have a phone from the Netherlands.
I ask this because KIES tells me my phone is not supported for firmware update. And with 4.1 in the running I want in but the official way, so if i stop following these updates, KIES or OTA will warn me in the future.

KIES tells me my phone is not supported for firmware update : for sure because you have a Netherlands device. The latest firmware for this phone is : Netherlands / 2012 August / 4.0.4 / I9300XXBLH1 / I9300PHNBLH1. (As KIES says) It's Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.
But when we saw your screenshot, I think you have a United-Kingdom (BTU) firmware (OpenEurope) , probably the latest ICS UK ROM.
So it's normal that KIES cannot update because for it, you have Netherlands device with UK firmware.
Can you put here the output of this command (on phone dialer) : *#1234#
added *#1234# screenshot
Can I flash Netherlands / 2012 August / 4.0.4 / I9300XXBLH1 / I9300PHNBLH1 with odin without losing user data? I've read that there are rom-versions for odin that do not wipe your phone. Otherwise I just wait for the official netherlands jellybean firmware and do a full wipe/install of that rom when it's my turn.

I confim that you have OpenEurope (OXA) firmware. Normaly, you can flash Netherlands firmware without losing user data (non wipe firmware), but if you have a boot loop, wipe data and cache will be necessary. So keep your data in a safe place before flashing your phone.
Doesn't screenshot 3 tells me i'm on PRO (which is belgian csc).
So if I summerize is correct:
I have a UK firmware on Belgian PRO but I need Netherland firmware on Netherland PHN?
Can I make it fully Belgian PRO WITH kies support?
By flashing Belgium / Luxemburg - 2012 June - 4.0.4 - I9300XXALF5 - I9300PROALF1. Or is my serial number forever bound to PHN?

Yes, you have : United-Kingdom Firmware / Belgium CSC and Netherlands Devices.
For sure, you have strong galaxy S3.
If it provides from Netherlands, the model must be one thing like that : GT-I9300RWDPHN and it never changes when flashing ROM.
For changing it : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.johnan.spooffw (I don't know how it works, so be carefull)
For KIES, your phone must have PHN firmware. But you can use another one (without automatic KIES update). I don't recommend using Belgium/Luxemburg firmware because it was very old (compare to United-Kingdom firmwares).
If you want JellyBean, you can try the latest UK firmware XXDLJ4. If it doesn't work well on your phone, you go back on PRO firmware.
I think I going to wait until PHN jelly bean comes out. They say it is best to wipe going from ics to jb. Then I just wipe and flash the right one. Thanks dude.

As per thousands of identical posts updates are nothing to do with XDA ask Samsung or your phone supplier .

You're from United Arabs Emirates. Download this samsung stock jelly bean rom and also odin and flash it in download mode. After that do all wipes from recovery and install csc select in your phone from Google Play and just check you're in AFR.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=7532
Instructions For Flashing Firmware:
Extract the firmware
Open Odin
Turn off your device
Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
In ODIN Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
Then finally click START!
Instructions For Changing CSC:
Download Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC app from the Play Store
Open Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC app
Tap "Change CSC" button
Select the CSC for you Country
Tap "Install" button (Keep in mind changing CSC wipes your device)
Thank you huskysdg. Why do i need to change CSC? is this ROM arabic enabled? and is it confirmed that the update wont happen through Kies since I have many data that cant be baked up?
This rom is the csc AFR, in Samsung codes means that's for arabics. This rom is official and stock, you shouldn't have any problem.
You need to back up your data with kies or with titanium backup always before flashing new roms just in case. For titanium backup you need to be rooted, look for cf-root v.6.4 for sgs3 here at xda. After rooting just buy and use triangle away from CF to keep your recovery binary counter to 0 and not loosing your samsung warranty.
If the csc enabled corresponds to the same region of the rom you've flashed in your device then kies will recognized your rom as offcial and will offer you the update option through OTA or through kies itself. That's the reason to check with app csc select if you're in the right csc choice. The app offers you to change csc but if you change csc there's always an automatic wipe from android itself.
Dude, if you don't feel capable of flashing the new rom look for more info at the sgs3 threads here in xda and how to do everything is explained several times by different people. I don't have more time for this.

What you mean "not officially"? You mean via Odin/Mobile Odin?
Re-install Kies.
No custom kernel right?

Hi friends I own Galaxy s 2 i9100....I got it from UK 3 mobile.. After coming to India I have flashed it with a ROM which is unlocked version as its is locked to 3 network...after the flashing I connected it to kies for backup and found the same message as others in this thread mentioned...so I tried reflashing it with a ROM that is compatible with Indian version and got the issue solved ...I am providing the details of the rom now I am using
PDA: I9100XWLQ2
phnoe: I9100DDLPC
CSC: I9100ODDLPD
BUILD info: Fri oct 26 16:04:15 KST 2012
But recently KIES software in my laptop got updated and when I connected my S2 it stated that my phone is not compatible to update from KIES. But, the same day when I connected wifi in my phone I got a message that an update is available and its done successfully.
Now can any body help me to get that issue sorted out when connected to KIES as it accepted before and now why it is not accepting ??
Thanks in Advance
This is all about csc codes and roms/firmwares from specific regions. csc changer from play store will fix most of the problems for you although root access is required in jelly bean. change the csc to your country and if all the planets are aligned in the third 1/4 of Aries your up and running..
However why the bloody hell you would want to use kies for anything other than backing your stuff up is completely beyond thinking about its the worst bloody piece of bloat you can install on your pc. Use odin you can flash any rom from any country you like its makes little difference as to weather your phone works in your country or not. HAPPY FLASHING.
@#1 If you really want too and jelly bean is available in your country install that via odin and that should also fix your problem.
Current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies
Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) about 2 months ago and I want to update it to gellybean. I tried to update via kies but it says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies". then how do I update my phone. Please help...! Thanks in advance.
Details about phone,
Model no: GT -I9100
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPQ-CL975203
Build no: IMM76D.XWLPU
HI,
When i connect to kies it shows as below:
Current Firmware: PDA:LJ2 / PHONE:LID / CSC:LJ2(XEF) - version 4.1.1
Latest Firmware: PDA:MC2 / PHONE:LKB / CSC:MB1 (XEF) - 4.1.2???
I need some help & troubleshooting info:
1. Is the lastest firmware version 4.1.2?
2. Kies downloaded the latest upgrade and then showed me Allow 'AdminDelegator' to modify my computer setting. I said yes.
But after that, Kies got freezed, it didnt start the installation. My S3 doesn't show the downloading....
Am I missing something in the upgrade procedure?
Thanks..

KIES is somewhat annoying to use lol. Why don't you just use the OTA feature of the phone? It's much faster that way.

HI,
Thanks for the reply. I have already tried OTA, but it says No updates available. So was I trying with Kies. Kies downloads the firmware and then the it gets freezed when about to start the initialization and never responds back.
Upgrade via Odin saves you posting the same question in multiple threads .
Multiple posts of the same question is against the rules .
Or get Samsung service to update for you .
