Absolutely stock Android. Very svelte set of installed apps, not rooted. I continually run out memory (Chrome throws an error at the bottom of the screen indicating that not enough memory was available to perform the task) and performance slows to a crawl.
Am I the only one? If not, what solution has been found for this?

I believe there is a memory leak in 5.0-5.0.1, I heard its been fixed in 5.1 So might as well reboot ever so often to relieve the issue temporarily or flash a 5.1 rom if you can't stand it.

Nope, Sony have managed to fix the leak in 5.0.2.
Low memory is the case of bad memory managment, really, it is terrible. You can disable some of the apps which you don't use in settings but do it with caution.
Regards
Simple. Close Chrome pages that is not used for a while. The biggest memory hog in Android is the Chrome. With any other app the issue happened far less often.
I know the issue memory leak should not happen, however same thing happen to me when im playing game, its close suddenly. stock kitkat and stock lolipop
however it did not happen in cm12.1 based rom... this indicate sony bundle app, eat too much memory. lol

I'm running stock 2.1 with JIT v2 enabled and SetCPU, but i've noticed an increase in Lag lately.
Is there a minimum of free space recommended for Android to run better? I've checked a few similar threads across xda and others but i couldn't find much useful information. My main memory currently has 100 MB and the sdcard 1,14 GB of free space.
Or maybe it's a cache issue? Never cleaned cache files before, can they actually cause lag? Hopefully is not the first signs of an incoming hardware fault.
Try using CacheMate and see...

Laggy after JIT enabled?
Normaly, the phone will just lag for the first 30s-1 min after the booting.
After that, the phone would work like a charm.
Also, remember to maintain enough ram for you phone, kill unneccessery apps.
Also, check you SetCPU settings,I used the performance and set to highest frequency(not to worried the battery,my phone usually drops 2-3% for one light)
If problem continues, just reflash and problem should be solved.
cheers,
L
I have no idea what happened, phone was very slow for the last couple of days, but out of nowhere it simply got back to it's normal behaviour.
Since JIT my x10 has been working very smoothly, hence my surprise when things started stuttering like crazy, the only thing that made it lag like that was a beta for Fennec/Firefox i've tested, but that app was already uninstalled when the problem started.
My noob knowledge of the Android OS led to a conclusion that some app in the background was misbehaving and the system itself shut it down eventually. Does it make sense? Watchdog's last alert accused Pulse News, but nothing looked out of the ordinary.
It started again yesterday, this time i've got random boots as well. Uninstalled a bunch of apps and the difference in performance was instantly noticeable. I've removed Beautiful Widgets and Lookout, but the former is more likely to be the naughty app.
too bad i've payed for that crap.
I noticed that my RAZR XT910 had become very slow after some time. I am using the UK jellybean firmware. Recently I had a problem that was only resolved after reflashing the phone. After the flash i noticed how smooth the phone was again. Installed many of my apps again (Nova Launcher / Widget Locker / Beautiful & HD Widgets and a ton other). The phone is still smooth and usable at the moment. I have not yet rerooted the phone, but will get to that very soon. My fear is the phone will probably start becoming slow again over time. What should i do? Has anyone else had a similar experience? Oh, and clearing cache also never sped the phone up again.. Just wish it would stay smooth like it is now.

For running it smoothly you need more RAM free for tasks. So, if you open a Browser, then PlayStore and Music App your phone will tend to get slower (Sadly, Droid Razr only has 1GB unlike few other new phones). Also, putting many apps on your phone that remain open in background unnecessarily does not help (Some Apps use your phone even when you havent even opened them).
You can use the "Advanced Task Manager" or other task managers to monitor, how much RAM is being used, which tasks/Apps are using it and probably uninstall some of the garbage Apps. Also, you can kill the processes to free up RAM space, that will make your phone instantly fast, in case it tends to slow down.
I used the Cache clearing from Boot Menu, it did not help me out as well. So I finally had to put this task manager and use it to control my Apps whenever my phone slows down.
I noticed a little lag on the 4.2 kernel but it seems to be running smoother on the 4.3. I am using cyanogen mod 10.2 but just remember to flash the correct gapps if you go this route.

Hi!
I met the same problem too. The interface was very slowly.
My solution was to increase more space on internal memory. I was almost full because I downloaded offline map files - a lot of small files in complicated folder hyerarhy (2 Gb).
Flash memory like SSD-disk needs free space for quick work.
I deleted offline files and reboot and miracle! My phone XT910 became as young dummy phone even on stock 4.0.4.
After that I started playing with custom firmware and now I am on 4.3.1 SlimBean and it is more smoothy and more free RAM without moto-soft.
After a few days the tablet has been on, it gets laggy. Opening the app drawer and other things gets choppy. After a reboot, everything is good. Its almost like the cache in memory is cleared. I've never had another tablet that does this. Is there s reason it gets laggy? Is a reboot the only thing that fixes this?

you didn't specify firmware version you're using, but it seems that some app you're using (and is in memory after reboot) has memory leak. It slowly "eats" all the available memory, which prevents other apps, from working normally and causes severe lag. After reboot, there is plenty of free memory and everything works ok, until situation repeats.

4.4.4. How do I figure out which app could be causing this? I looked under running apps and didn't see anything strange.

seems only by deleting apps one by one and testing your device for some time after that.
Your issue is practically the same as here.

I put nova launcher on my tablet. Lately I haven't noticed lag. To make it even faster, I disabled all animations in developer options. It flies.

great!
Hello all! I have searched XDA for a similar issue but can't seem to find anything. I find it hard to believe this hasn't been asked before, so I must be using the wrong verbiage.
For some reason, certain apps are getting killed off when they aren't the foreground app. I could be playing a game, hit the recents button and switch to hangouts to type out a text, switch back to the game, and the phone reloads the entire game. This is extremely frustrating as you can imagine, but games aren't the only apps this happens to as pretty much any app does this, with the exception of Hangouts and a few others. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it either, because it's not limited to only apps that take up large amounts of ram like games. I've checked my free ram available while running Hearthstone, and it never drops below 500 it seems. I am running SKyDragon's version 9.0, Sense 7, LP 5.02. I know LP had a memory hole issue when it first came out, but I thought the version of SkyDragon I have fixed it long ago. Thanks for any help!
Well Ok then. Does anyone know if this inherent to LP with the known ram issues or is this something else?

Don't know if its a problem with LP in general. But Sense ROMs have always been notorious for high RAM usage, as well as aggressive killing of apps. You might try a GPE or AOSP ROM, to see if it helps.
Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to modify the phone's inherent management of apps and memory? The only thing I could find was changing the minfree values. I'm not super familiar with how exactly it works though. I've read a brief overview of it, but when I changed Empty App to a lower number (200), it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have a feeling I'm not understanding it correctly though. Like I said in my first post, the free RAM amount never dips below 500, so it's not killing apps because it's running low on RAM. smh
Can try a different kernel, memory is usually controlled there.
As the title says, my games are closing itself after some time. This is happening for about 4 months now. I tried flashing few different ROMs (I did hard-reset each time, completely wiping internal storage), and tried flashing few different kernels, but the problem still appears. It's not issue with RAM because I'm monitoring RAM when it happens, it always has ~100MB free.
I'm currently running Resurrection Remix LP v5.5.9 ROM with ArchiKernel v3.0.31. I don't know anymore what may cause the problem, I tried everything to fix it, but it still appears. Problem wasn't appearing before, but now it is in almost every game. Every other app or while outside the games, everything works smoothly like fresh factory reset was performed. I don't have much apps running in background and I don't run any optimisation apps (like RAM cleaner or app killer in background). Thanks in advance!

Hello,
you can try to use Greenify to stop some Apps.

Why would I want to stop some apps? I want them to run. What does it have to do with my original post? Please don't spam if you can't help.

If you really think this is Spam I won't help you any more. If you know anything about Android and read my answer you should be able to solve the Problem.

Classic Oom behaviour. Even though you think it isnt ram related you'll probably find oom errors in logcat.
S3 i9300 doesn't cope with any os higher than jellybean. Hence why samsung never issued one.
If you encounter these issues on a jellybean rom then the rom is rubbish.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
