Motorola Droid X2
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How can I tell if I have a Motorola Droid X2?
1. Check in the battery compartment, under the battery, on the label, Model is in the middle of top line, the Droid X2 is model MB870.
2. In the software Menu>settings>about Phone>system version will include MB870.Verizon.en.US
Q2: What is the newest Stock Android Version and System Version?
The current Stock Android Version is 2.3.4 (Gingerbread).
Current System Version is 1.3.418.MB870.Verizon.en.US
Q3: Where are the Custom Bootloaders, Recoveries, and Kernels?
Because of the Locked bootloader, the stock bootloader cannot be unlocked and Stock recovery can not be replaced, to use a custom recovery a Bootstrap app is used to Hijack the boot process. See
HowTo: Perform a bootstrap (or nandroid) backup and recovery of your Droid X2 by Moon Shadow - NM
Bootstrap explained by Koushik Dutta (Koush) the Droid 2, X, & 3 bootstrap creator

Q5: Where can I Download the Stock Rom/Firmware?
Droid X2 Firmware (SBFs)
Q6: How do I restore the stock rom?IF the phone can be booted to bootloader and the battery has enough charge, Stock Firmware(SBF) should be able to be re-flashed as long as the is no hardware failure. There are 3 methods to flash SBF/Firmware.
RSD Lite (Windows only) see my page Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (Stock Rom)
ezSBF bootable CD or usb flash drive (Windows/Linux/Mac) ezSBF DX2 2.3.4 with zergrush root option
sbf_flash (LInux/Mac) see http://blog.opticaldelusion.org/search/label/sbf_flash
Q7: What is the Best Rom?
Best/most stable ROM threads aren't allowed as they're too subjective, you'll receive lots of differing opinions on the same thing. The only way is to try yourself and find the one that fits you best as that's what these forums are about.

Q10: Can I use the Droid X, without activating with a carrier (WiFi only)? Yes, to skip activation, use 4 corners method or Boot Android {No BP}
Boot Android {No BP}: Power on phone holding volume down, when you see fast boot keep tapping volume down till you see "Boot Android {No BP}" and press volume up.
It will boot you into Google Setup....just click the green guy then select the "skip" option for the rest of the setup. When you get to the location service consent section with the 3 options just don't select any and you will boot to the regular home screen with no service.

Preparing SD Cards for flashing
I'd like to 'clean house' before my next ROM flash and I wonder what's the best way to rid my int and ext sd's of un-necessary crapola. I've copied contents to my pc so I have all my pix, Tibu bkups, clockwork bkups, and items that I need. So can I just delete everything I see on the sd cards now through my PC? or are there files that I need to leave in place for the ROM to flash successfully? I guess what I'm worried about are Root utility apps and files like: Superuser, Busybox, etc. can I just delete all and those neccessary files are safely stored in the hidden system files? I know i can use Google backup for contacts, calender events, etc..
I'd Love to see a guide on "preparing your byte zones for a happy Flash party!" with suggestions and instructions on how to clean out the detritus of uninstalled apps and leftovers from previoius ROMs.
I too

I also would love to see this.
When i click download roms on clockwork mod ROM app I get a message that says:
You must have CWM Recovery installed b4 continuing. Install the recovery through ROM manager first.
The app (CWM) does not have any Moto Razr version of the recovery to download.I found RazrBootstrap.apk that is said to be the Razr recovery for Clockworkmod. It also says to download RAZR-CWMOnBoot.zip but i think I already have this.
I have razr safestrap on my phone already and it reboots into Recovery with the Clockworkmod logo. Is it safe to download RazrBootstrap.apk when i already have safestrap? Something is telling me that would mess up my phone.
So what do I need to do to be able to use Clockworkmod ROM manager for Moto Razr?
You can't use rom manager on any phone with a locked boot loader. We are using cwm recovery but not in a way their program can read it because we can't actually replace the stock recovery. We just work around it. So to flash a rom you would need to download it and then manually install it through safe strap or bootstrap. I prefer safe strap that way if it fudges up I still have my stock rooted to fall back onto and don't have to rsd back.

Thanks, now i know not to worry bout it and can unistall CWM rom manager and get my refund.
WRONG! Rom manger works on a lot of Motorola phones with a locked bootloader. My droid x was one of them. Wish the noobs would get this one right! Koush just for whatever reason won't write a bootstrap for the razr.

Some General Knowledge:
What is rooting?
Android rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.
Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user. On Android, rooting can also facilitate the complete removal and replacement of the device's operating system, usually with a more recent release of its current operating system.
As Android was derived from the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device is similar in practice to accessing administrative permissions on Linux or any other Unix-like operating system such as FreeBSD or OS X.

I wan't to update to jellybean, how?
Visit here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212067
1). Can i root my phone?
To Root your phone go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36138808
2a). What can i benefit from rooting my device?
Apart from mentioned above you can flash custom ROMs based on your choice.
2b). Is there a downside to rooting?
Yes, you may loose warranty if you damage your device by rooting.
3). What is ROM?
ROM is the whole system on your phone just like windows/mac os/ubuntu on PC.
4.). What is CWM and Custom ROM?
CWM and TWRP are recovery, in recovery mode you can flash new ROMs backup existing or factory reset etc. Custom ROM are Custom OS based on existing sources modified for better performance and reliablity.
5). What is this Stock ROM/CM/AOKP/PA/PAC your talking about?
Stock ROM is pre-installed OS
CM is short for CyanogenMod, CM gives its user vanilla android experierience at the same time more options and customization available there are 4 versions so far CM6(froyo 2.2.x), CM7(Gingerbread 2.3.x), CM9(Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.x), CM10( JellyBean 4.1.x) and CM10.1(4.2.x)
AOKP is short for Android Open Kang Project, AOKP brings user MORE goodies than CM gives and it also gives the user Vanilla android experience.
PA is Short for Paranoid Android, Also like CM but it gives you unique Tablet UI (phone will look like a tablet) for your device even though it's just a phone.
PAC is combined PA, AOKP, CM. It gives the combined features of all 3.
6). How to install one of this rom ?
Look for the rom that you think you like in android development section and follow the instruction given by the developer.
7). So which of them is the best?
Try them all and don't compare roms people have their own preferences. when you compare roms some devs may feel bad and leave this device for good.
Comparing ROMs is very rude and disrespecting to developers.
8.) I want to revert to ICS after JB update, how to?
Refer this Guide for the process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213663
9.)What is CID and how do I check my CID?

This is how to unbrick your razr if you accidentally wipe and flash the stock rom slot w/o Backup.
this is also another way how to unroot your razr running JB 4.1.2
A. Enter AP Fastboot mode. how to enter ap fastmode mode?
1. press and hold the volume up & down buttons and the power button simultaneously for i think 10 secs.
2. you can also view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=togllOW3qvw
3. once youre on the Recovery mode:
3.1. Scroll down by pressing the volume down button and choose AP Fastboot mode
3.2 Once youre in fastboot mode connect your phone on the computer and launch RSD Lite application
3.3. RSD lite will detect your phone once its connected
3.4 then proceed to F.
B. if you phone is already lowbat?
you just cant figure it out for you have no OS to show the battery when you charge it.
you have to use motorola factory cable. i have created mine and you can follow the steps here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwwI_6doBWk
C. if everything is OK then just follow A.
D. download RSD Lite application. you can search that on google. Im using 5.7 version and its working.
E. Download the Firmware here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289
1. there are different versions of razr firmwares you can choose depending your choice or place. Im from Philippines, i supposed to choose Asean version but razr has no Asean version for JB release so I use Europe version. Thats depending on you actually.
F. Open the RSD lite application:
1. on the "Filename" window choose the "Firmware" that you downloaded by clicking on the "Box" (has 3 dots) beside the filename window.
2. a pop up windown will appear and choose "Decompress only".
3. then click "Start" button on the RSD lite application.
4. Wait...
5. Wait...
6. Wait...
7. Voila! congratulations your Razr is alive!
proven and tested motorola phones are extremely great when it comes to quality!
Solved from my end.

Your link to the firmware returns a "404 Page Not Found", otherwise this is pretty great. I've only been able to find the XT910 firmware so far. I'd really like to find the XT912 RAZR stock firmware.
RAZR XT910 Firmwares SuperThread (Jelly Bean)
Found it... Maybe. If someone else could maybe confirm? These seem to be the stock firmware for VZW Droid RAZR...
Verizon US Motorola Droid RAZR (XT912)
So, this is happening... I've tried a couple of the VZW firmwares I found earlier. I've also tried RSD Lite on my main windows 8.1 system and a secondary Windows 7 desktop. I've only been using RSD Lite 6.1.5 so far, I'll try a couple different versions next.

*Update*
DROID RAZR Utility XT912 Jellybean
Seems to have done the trick. It's basically a script and all required dependencies are included. It also has the JB firmware for the xt912 included, so you don't have to get that on your own even.
Followed your guide until I hit that hiccup above, and not able to find a way around it I ended up at this most recent link. My VZW XT912 Droid RAZR has now been successfully returned to stock after I mistakenly wiped the stock rom slot in bootstrap..
I would like to thank you very much for setting me on the right path.

Booting from AP fastboot to charging mode
If the Device will only boot to AP Fastboot and it says Battery Low
Connect the phone/Device ato a Wall Charger (not PC)
-In AP Fastboot Mode hold Volume down& power buttons at the same time for +10 seconds
- When screen goes black...release power button
-Then IMMEDIATELY press and hold Vol - and Vol+ to boot to Boot Menu.
- In Boot Menu scroll down with volume down to BP Tools, press volume up to select
- Device should boot to Charging Mode with battery icon
- Once battery is charged, try flashing in AP Fastboot again
This will only work if battery charging Firmware is still preset and not corrupted
If Motorola Device will not boot to Charging Mode, a Fastboot cable will be needed.

DROID RAZR Gingerbread XT912 fastboot files
I have a Razr stuck in bootup and found some very good directions for going about an AP boot but the missing ingredient has been the fastboot files. I was pointed to this site where I found a description of the files but no download. Anybody know where they can be found?
