Hello all, how are things? Well I hope.
I know there is a thread somewhere here that is what I need but in my search I seem to be confusing myself and finding more uncertainty than answers.(Not by fault of the forums, it's probably on my part)
Anyway, what I have right now:
Galaxy Note 3, Sprint, Rooted.
Software: N900PVPUDNK4
Hardware: N900P.12
Model: SM-900P
Android: 4.4.4
Baseband: N900PVPNK4
Kernal: 3.4.0
Stock ROM, no TWRP/CWM, tripped Knox(don't care). Used Odin and AutoCF when I rooted it, but that was long enough ago that I can't remember specifics. It was easy though.
Now what I'd like is to upgrade to Lollipop. Preferably stock ROM, and remain free from TWRP/CWM. If it is necessary, TWRP is preferred as that is what I used on my previous phone and am familiar with it some-what.
From searching this and other forums I 'think' the same Odin/AutoCF method works to gain root. Is this correct? Is there a stock ROM already rooted that can be flashed with ODin, or would I need to flash unrooted lollipop, then re-root?
I've been searching but I'm seeing a lot of posts, links, guides, some of which predate the N3 5.0 release so I'm not sure if they are still valid.
Thank you for any advice, help.
you'll need to flash the unrooted tar (with odin) to get to lollipop cleanly
then use cfautoroot to root (also with odin)
then I would flash twrp (again with odin) So you could flash in the future.
first this

(ROM)(ODIN)OC5 stcock firmware tar
and then this to root

Instructions for flashing ANY custom/stock Lollipop via recovery
Kingdazy, thank you! Didn't have time over the holiday weekend, but got around to it the other day. Perfect, well, almost. I did install TWRP. Only snag was that when reflashing the stock lollipop ROM TWRP hangs when it installs modem. I let it sit a while before rebooting and everything is working. Interesting... But it works..
Thank you again.

sorry my response post was so short, little detail. (had family issues at the time, and you seemed competent enough to read, follow directions. ?)
glad you got around to it! the process seems daunting to read, but once you do it, it's like boom-boom-boom super easy.
it was more a pain in the ass to get my stuff restored more than anything...
enjoy!

A while back when I first got my Verizon Note 2, I used Adam Outler's Casual method to root my phone to Stock. I don't mind stock and root mostly for the Tethering.
About a week back the OTA notice hit my phone. I have declined the notice/update twice giving myself time to look for the root update. I found this thread by Beans: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518704 ........ It seems right but this thread by AdamOutler says not to use ODIN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045563
So I am a little confused. I just want the update but don't want to mess up and not have my tethering ever again.... or brick the phone.
As a newbie, it's a scary task. Someone please help point me in the right direction. I just want the 4.3 Stock. If there is a thread for my situation I couldn't find it. I search "casual TWRP 4.3 OTA" and other similar variations.
I can still get to the TWRP 2.5.0.0. I have also downloaded the ODIN and started it... looks simple, but there are no instructions.
Someone please help me...
Thanks

Welp, couple things...
#1 - The link you posted above is the from the Note 3. You want this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458
#2, The ROM gets flashed via CWM or TRWP like normal, it's only the radio update that gets flashed via ODIN. That shouldn't affect your current unlock/root status.
#3 - If it is only ROOT you are after, the 4.3 OTA is Rootable, just not unlockable. So if by chance you accidentally take the OTA you should still be able to ROOT and install your Tethering app. You just won't be able to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery/rom.

So if you are OTA'd to MJ9, how do you unlock?

You cannot. Best bet is to not take the other and unlock your bootloader. If you take it you will probably be locked for a very long time.

Correct, you cannot currently UNLOCK the OTA MJ9 boot loader. But you can ROOT. Which will allow you to tether.

I would think long and hard about taking the OTA...although root is available, you may want an unlocked bootloader at some point, and there is no guarantee that is coming to the official 4.3. My guess is that it will not simply because this phone is 18 months old and the skilled developers that put in the time to do things like unlock bootloaders move on to newer devices.
If you managed to use Casual in the past, Odin won't be a problem for you. Below are the steps:
Odin takes about 5 minutes total...its really easy.
Download Odin (it's just a simple windows program). - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576
Make sure you have the latest samsung drivers - http://www.mediafire.com/?hzlnda0l5t8qyes
Download and extract the firmware from the first post in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458
Save whatever 4.3 ROM you choose to your external SD card.
Power down the phone and boot back into download mode (volume down, power and home at the same time).
Open Odin, plug in phone...Odin should recognize the phone and you will see the com port noted in yellow.
Check the PDA box and put the firmware file (unzipped) in the PDA slot. Click start and 30 seconds later you are done. Phone will reboot into recovery at this point.
Then you can flash any of the 4.3 ROMs (including stock) in TWRP (I use 2.5.0.0 too). I have tried them all and Sophisticated 3.0 has worked the best for me...I will be trying beans 23 as soon as it is done.

Thank you so much. Updated and everything seem to work just fine, but after some use it started rebooting. I am going to put on Sophisticated as you suggested. Hopefully, it will be more stable then the stock ROM.
And I can't get the WIFI Tethering to work. Which Tethering app are you using? I have unlimited data... and need to make sure Verizon isn't charging me for no reason.

I had some reboots on the stock rom too...but once I went to the other roms (I tried Nephilium, Sophisticated and N3bula, but had the best results with Sophisticated) and I haven't had one reboot.
As for the wifi tethering, on stock you need to flash the file below (some of the newer roms, including Sophisticated have it baked in).

The reason you ask what? You didn't ask anything. And as it's been stated a million times, no unlock method avaliable and unlikely there will be one.

Eh, he is one of those that puts the question in his title instead of the body of the reply. But as @akellar said, there is nothing available.
Thanks so much for all the help. I got everything working right based on the instructions from this thread. I initially had an issue with the "Wifi Tether" because I was using a 3rd party app. Instead the correct app is the "Mobile Hotspot" app. It might be named differently for other carriers, but for Verizon it is "Mobile Hotspot".
Again thank you for all the replies.
Thank you for Sophisticated v3.
Thank you Adam Outler for the original Casual root.
And Thank you runandhide05 for the "Mobile Hotspot" hack!

Hey, first post here but I've been reading some threads since 2011.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (I have experience with custom roms and such with the Droid Charge, also Samsung. See a pattern?).
I rooted it a while back, but recently have been experiencing quite a bit of instability so I wanted to try a custom rom (Hyperdrive is the one that I'm looking at but that's kinda irrelevant to this post).
The problem for me is that every guide expects me to be rooted with the custom recovery. I am rooted, and I did have CWM installed to perform the root, but now for some reason recovery boots into stock and I haven't been able to load any custom recoveries. I tried the CWM Rom Manager app to get CWM back, but it didn't seem to work (touch or normal). I have also tried Goo Manager to get TWRP and that was a complete bust.
I noticed one or two other methods involving safe-strap but I cannot for the life of me get safe-strap working on my phone and I've followed a couple guides several times without success.
I need someone to point me in the right direction to get a custom recovery back on my phone. I'm assuming something got screwed up somewhere along the line, so I'm not confident in these other methods but I'm trying to find a guide using Odin. Part of the problem seems to be that the Verizon phones aren't too common so all the guides and downloads are for a different model.
Please help, I'd prefer an Odin method but I'm open to suggestions.

If you are on NC5 then Safestrap is your only option. You are going to brick your phone if you just keep throwing recoveries at your phone until one sticks. If you are on MDK then your bootloader is unlocked and you can do what you want. Read the threads, that's what they're there for.

I'm actually on ME7. I haven't updated in a very long while because I wanted to root and then stop tinkering. That's not an option for me anymore for the stability reasons. I had over a year of rock solid performance though so it was a good run.
I was searching threads on this forum and others. This one seems to be more reliable than others (and a whole lot friendlier), but I still can't find what I'm looking for.
Maybe you can help me out by pointing out one of the threads that has what I need?
Thanks much.

MDK, as I understand it, is the only bootloader that has been unlocked thus far. If you are still on ME7 and it's locked anyway, you may be better off just taking the update.

Well you can update via Samsung Keis, or if you know how to use ODIN you can flash the latest NC5 through ODIN. You'll find everything you'll need from here.
Forgot to say that after you upgrade you can root through towelroot which you can by searching this forum or Google it.
After you install busybox you should be able to install Safestrap, but if you can't, you need to download and install an app calle SElinuxmodechanger and set SElinux to permissive. Then you will be able to install Safestrap. Once you have SS you can only install ROMs on the Stock slot. non of the other slots work.

Thanks in advance. I have been out of the Android loop for a bit and am having some difficulty catching up.....
I have a VZW S4 i545 --Details:
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I545VRUAME7
Kernel: 3.4.0-690088
I would like to update. KitKat at a minimum, Lollipop if root is possible. At the moment, I want to keep to the basic updates and experiment with other ROMS later. I have installed SafeStrap and made a backup to the SD.
I have been searching for days and can't find anything for updating from this set-up. Either the Baseband or version is different and I am not confident enough to take any chances.
If someone would help me out, I would REALLY appreciate it. I realize this is an older situation that was maybe covered in the past, but some help would be great.
Thank you so much. I really look forward to getting back into the swing with Android.......
(BTW...No didn't go to iPhone, just been away from it for a bit...ugh..lol....)
APPRECIATE IT.......Thanks....
You can upgrade to KitKat, there is no root for lollipop yet!
You will have to start from scratch though...or find a stock Rom for KitKat. I recommend the ODIN flash stock, and start clean as you will need a new version of SafeStrap possibly! If you want the link for the odin files, I have them!
Thought so...but Question?
I kinda figured. The problem is every KitKat file I find say that it is to update from 4.3 ? I'm at 4.2.2, also often the Baseband mentioned is different. VERY confused about this.
I would love the proper ODIN files...THANK YOU.....
Locating this KitKat file seems to be harder than I thought.
Also, when you say to start clean, you mean factory wipe? Also, get Safestrap off? I'm guessing that is ok to keep?
Shouldn't be long and I'll be back in the swing of things, just this first move in so long has me nervous....
THANKS.....Look forward...
I meant to wipe everything of complete stock! Then reload ROOT and SafeStrap.

Hey guys I was able to take the time slooooowly download Stock firmware for our Prevail. Practically no support to this phone at all, but I've been working to change that as best I can. I am learning the ropes of ROM building and I have been able to make use of ASSSAYED Kitchen v.110 (Now upgraded to v1.20).
For those of you who don't know:
Odin tutorial
**DO AN ADVANCED WIPE IN TWRP BEFORE FLASHING. EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE EXTERNAL SD CARD**
Download Samsung USB Drivers (Go to this xda thread here).
Download Odin (Get it here) Extract to Desktop (Or wherever)
Download firmware to desktop (It's in .zip format and you can find it here). Extract .zip file to odin folder (again, or wherever). Extraction should yield G360PVPU2APJ2_G360PSPT2APJ2_G360PVPU2APJ2_HOME.tar
Right click Odin 3.10.6 and click on "run as administrator".
Click on AP and find the extracted ROM. Open it and it will take a minute to load in to Odin...Now make sure the 'Auto Reboot and F. reset time options are ticked and nothing else.
Make sure to be using a quality USB cord. Odin will recognize your phone being plugged in. It will say COM port number in the top left hand corner and added or removed will be in the log window. Once you are ready begin the flash press start.
Relax, It will take about 10 minutes to do it's thing. After the long agonizing initial boot process, you will be back to stock firmware PJ2 for SM-G360P
Hope it helps! So far there is no lollipop for our phone. Click here to check out all my uploads for this device. So far I have a TWRP port that actually works. (Must flash through Odin) an a Stock rooted deodexed busyboxed zipaligned rom of this firmware (Thanks to ASSAYYED Kitchen).

just wanted to say thanks i have 2 of these phones 1 use for mp3 player/ play phone and the other my daughter has to use. ive tried a ton of twrps for this and everyone broke recovery. im dl ing the twrp and the rom you posted. ya there is no development on this phone at all. ive tried almost every rom i could to get it to lollipop with no luck. im going to try to get the theme store and the launcher swapped out with an updated version.. n5 s7 any is fine i just want to get it updated lol. ill play with it tonight and let you know how it goes. i appreciate the effort your putting in to this. i dont even have service to them i have a stubborn s7 that refuses to get rooted. i had no prob with the note7 but idk if i have some updated version of s7 but i cannot obtain full root. i need to have my audio mods at least. i have a good one with beats, dolby atomos and viper im going to try on the 360 as well. let me know if you would like the file. after i check if it works on this on that is.
Please stay tuned. Upgrading this thread to the most recent PJ2 firmware.
Thread updated to PJ2 firmware. I can confirm this will make your device status 'Official'.
Thank you!
I just wanted to say:
Thank you so much mate! An amazing job here, I had a broken rom on this device, and thanks to your PJ2 build; I now have a fully working device again!
Fixed the play store, play services, and all the ads and junk on this Textfree branded device (PE2 firmware confirmed). keep up the great work!
Thanks for posting this! I see your other files, would you mind going in more detail how to install the stock rooted deodexed version of this rom? How do you recommend unlocking the bootloader to install TWRP or can we just simply flash it with ODIN then install the stock rooted rom? Thanks!

Hello. I'm Dave. I just got this phone (G360P Prevail LTE) and I'm pretty excited about it because it could sure use some stuff and I'm new to development and ROM porting. My goal is to bring great ROMs to the lower end phones that are sometimes forgotten in development. Right now I only have one good port under my belt, but it's a great one...PAC 5.1.1 for the ZTE Zmax Z970. Unfortunately, I used device and kernel trees that were already put together by another developer, so I'm not completely sure how to get started on putting trees together for this one. At least it's a Samsung, so mistakes will not be deadly, hopefully lol. There's a lot I don't know and this will be a hell of a learning experience. If anyone could fill me in on which devices that have some development going are most similar to this one, it would be a big help. I flashed the TWRP for the G360T1 before I found @adrwill2000's stuff since it has the same processor and specs and I'm sure you all know how that worked out...I guess I'll start by grabbing stuff for the device that our TWRP was ported from, unless you guys have any better suggestions. It would be best to start with trees from a very similar device. I almost hate to post this because it's very possible I will get nowhere, but I could sure use input from you guys that know this device well as to what my best starting point might be. Thank you.
I'm back to running H1 for now because it seems to be our latest that xposed is working on and imo this KitKat stuff sure needs some Gravitybox. Also, on mine, in J2, when I hit reboot it would reboot recovery. I was gonna fix it, but it's working in H1.
Scratch that...I found the Xposed updated for new 4.4s, so I'm on the deodexed, zipaligned j2 now. Thanks for all you've done with this, @adrwill2000...
It worked for me. My phone was bricked and I could not even get it to hard reset. Thank you!
This is the Odin ROM for the PL1 update. Requires the the use of Odin, computer, and USB cable to use. This is the stock ROM pulled from Samsung Kies3. I've flashed it inside Odin, and it upgraded my device without wiping contents, but I cannot promise the same result for everyone.
To (re)root, follow this:

So what does the PL1 update get you? Does it improve the radio modem operations? Is it just so it will work with Nougat?
It's a security update, that's all. Note 3 is done with OS upgrades. 5.0 will be the last official

Hya there..
I have been following all your posts about flashing the PL1 update through either Odin or TWRP. I am familiar with both, but wanted to ask for insight on my particular setup.
Model SM 900P (Sprint)
Im still on 4.4.2 Kitkat Killer and has been doing well but looking to upgrade if I can find a good ROM.
I am still on baseband version NC5
Kernel 3.4.0 BeastMode
I figure I would be smart to flash the Baseband and Modem to the PL1 but would of course like to keep root and keep my TWRP recovery.
Ultimately I would like to flash the DarkLord ROM or even Resurrection Remix ROM for the Note 3 on CDMA (Sprint)
This is my daily driver, and cannot afford to frag my phone so I want to be sure I make the best choices.
If I follow your posts I would do best to downlowad your TWRP Stock Pre Root zip file, and simply "recover' the file as if I was doing any normal TWRP recovery. This would then put me back to Stock Lollipop and upgrade my Modem and Baseband and get me the latest security updates (well fairly recent anyways).
In lieu of that, I can ODIN the PL1 file offered by you and this would in effect 'factory reset' my phone as if I just bought it from Sprint (well you know what I mean) and would re install all my apps etc (through Titanium Backup etc).
From there I can try Resurrection or DarkLord Mod's and load them like any ROM install?
Thanks for double checking my train of thought...
Dave
Thanks! This helped me out.
@Unidave199 -
Use ODIN to push Greaper88's PL1 file to your phone. (now you are updated.) (I just used it, it works.)
Use ODIN to push a recovery to your phone like TWRP
Find yourself a ROM you like (Darklord's is good.)
Flash ROM via TWRP (Read the ROM's OP's entire instructions for flashing.)
Final step....Enjoy!

I hope this is the right thread for this...
Pardon my ignorance here, it's been a few years since I frequented this forum, or even XDA...
Is this what I want to use to get back to total stock, unrooted for resale?
(I've been rocking the Note 3 since it came out, FINALLY upgraded to something newer, and want to sell this to a sprint user.)
Yes it is
Just use the "CSC" file and not the "HOME_CSC." This should completely reset the device and clear user data.
