Waterproofness - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I recently felt that my phone was weird. The back was able to be pressed in further and squeaked when I applied pressure on it. Will this affect the waterproofness of the phone? This has been going on for quite some time now. Is it that the glue isn't strong anymore or is it just the nature of the construction of the phone?

My old phone did the same but it was 100% fine around water for over a year

I actualy have no idea
I thought it may be something to do with the battery or vibrator motor.

Thanks again, i think battery is moved a little an then return to its proper site when I pressed it… is it important to repair? If the back cover opened, water resistance has been gone?!

what is behind the battery cover?

Sorry if this question is answered else where:
When you take the cover off, there is something behind it.What is the metal thing on the back of the battery cover?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say antenna
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
It is the NFC antenna.
It is not in use on stock AT&T phones, but you can use it on most of the custom ROMs.
OP, I have a similar question. Could you take the cover off and try making a call? I want to know if that's the NFC antenna or for the cellular network. thanks
It's the nFC antenna

Stop askin, its the NFC antenna. If you buy one of the flip cover cases or even look them up on ebay etc it will tell you its the NFC antenna. Case closed!

[Q] Broken Glass Screen - Help

Just dropped my S3 this afternoon. Cracked/broke the top glass edge.
Is there a simple way to:
1. get the unit replaced by Three (no insurance but its only a few months old on contract)
2. Get it repaired by a service centre (how much??)
3. Repair it myself...what do I need?
Many thanks.

to repair my broken glass an indipendent service (not samsung official) asked my for 280€ (new glass and work), this in italy.. i don't know in your place..
Do you think that would have been avoided with a case that covers the end of the phone?

Ok. It looks a straightforward procedure. I can get the glass screen off Amazon for £14 so will give it a go...
Brave guy. I cracked mine, however I'm going to sell it. Damaging the digitizer while replacing the glass would be too costly.
I saw on ebay the glass and digitizer for 20 bucks.

Read the feedback..
"Looks like, the flex cable was already used!"
"Сlearly is not a T720. non-original parts"
"This is a Scam pice plastic"
And the item description:
"The Digitizer together with the Display,do not come with the Front Glass.Pls remember this."
Smart way to cover it indeed.
Maybe a protective case would have saved it, in fact I always have it on (Samsung) original, the only moment that I have taken it off, the phone dropped from about 20cm and the screen cracked.. I have been unlucky because I've hit the cracking point of the glass..

option 3 is only for non noobs , you do know how to seperate digitizer from outer glass right ?
Try to do it yourself if you are comfortable with opening your phone

It is possible and if you took time to read this thread from the beginning and follow the links you will be able to watch I it being done
Sorry if I've angered you but I did read the whole thread. Maybe you are right maybe not.
I'll rephrase then: In my opinion it is not possible to change the display, glass or digitizer separately. It is a single unit as it was with the Galaxy S and Galaxy SII.

Ok so the guy has some balls I give you that.
I am in no way trying to pick a fight here. All this is only my opinion.
You will have airgap between the screen and digitizer, second I wonder if the speaker works after al that heat applied. To me it looks highly unprofessional. Again just an opinion.
Remember most people complain about their screen being pentile 1-2 dead pixels and I could go on and on.
This is in my opinion not a good solution. Cheap but not good.

what i did was, order 1 screen+digitizer for 270 US dolars, replace the broken 1.
them i remove the cracked glass from the broken screen and replace it with a new glass
and sell that part for half the price.

So I cracked my screen!

So I was laying down and the phone slide off my wireless charger I knocked it off actually and it literally fell 2 feet and cracked hit the corner of the screen had the case on my phone the stock case but it offers no protection. So I'm really hoping the replacement phone doesn't come with ota update then I'd be able to root. Crossing fingers and now I have to get a really good case for this phone that offers protection.

I had mine on a wireless charger on a table about 5ft up. I got up to get some water, stepped on the wire and the device launched in the air about 8-9 ft with stock case. Landed face down on the screen. I thought it was totally done. I pick it up and not one scratch. I guess some are just luckier than others . I drop my phone from 5 feet+ all the time doing bunny hops on my bike when it falls out of my pocket and never any scratches. I think this phone is really strong and durable. Can I see a picture of the device? It hurts to see such a great device and such terrible condition.

No charge, think I got lucky though (I placed a good review I wrote months back along w/docs required). Remember to take your SD card; you won't get it back. Great phone. Want the z2 compact. Yeah I'd be careful taking it into the shower with you. One thing that has been problematic with other electronics is the heat in a shower can have unexpected consequences.
The phone has water resistance, its not water proof. Personally, I would still try and keep it away from water at all costs. Its only really meant for say like if your stuck in a storm and it gets some rain drops on it or something. I would definately still not go into a shower with it or go swimming with it.
It's waterproof. I've put this thing to the test. Just have to stick to the 30min, 3' rule (tough when you're having fun). No salt water.

Actually its not waterproof and was never touted to be. It is certified to be IP67 Water Resistant. Which means that it is dust tight and can be immersed in 1m of water for 30 minutes and it should be ok. Water proof would mean that it would be able to withstand any degree of water. If anybody is interested this page has a pretty good description and chart of what Ingress Protection is and what the numbers mean.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Wate...im-or-is-secretly-afraid-of-the-water_id53205
Have to to say though, its pretty inpressive how far up the S5 is on the chart. It is narrowing in on water proof territory.
Oooh Ok. I took mine out 4 times, vids & pics. Underwater. 1st 3 times worked like a charm, and we only used it for a short time. When you 1st go under the screen jumps around a bit. It settles after a quick second. The 4th time I took it to a water park, and had it out in the sun for about 5-6 hours. That killed it. Phone still worked, but screen went way dim. Had to use a flashlight to see it. Vids & pics were great though. Down water slides and all. So much fun with this phone. Just can't get too carried away. My bad for the wrong verbiage. I do attest this thing will create memories.

How would they know if the back and power cover "were indeed on properly"?? To answer your question, no.. And as long as Samsung keeps making removable batteries (god i hope so) they never will.. Don't care if it says "water resistant" It's WATER PROOF!
only reason they probably don't say proof is warrant. Bottom line, it's water proof. It can withstand hours underwater with no problem.
Samsung finally made a commercial and shows people completely dousing the phones under water.
I jumped in my pool with mine. there are tons of videos online showing how water "proof" this phone actually is. I think the sony Phone that we all know is water "proof" still only has an IP67 rating

Water damage HAS to be covered now since the phone is advertized as water resistant. Right?

I have the same issue with the front facing camera, only I never dropped mine. I started playing with the front camera on Friday and noticed a shadow along one side. At first, I thought this was some kind of filter I had accidentally applied. When I could not find a way to turn it off I thought maybe the top of my case was causing it. When I looked close, I saw that the top half of the camera was being blocked by this gasket. I took it to T-Mobile and they exchanged it as a manufacturer defect and I have a new one arriving today. Once the new on gets here I'll post some pics of the bad one.

Fair enough, but as stated directly following your message, someone had the same issue, took the phone in and was replaced under warranty so our previous talks prove factual, dropped or not this is a warranty issue, not fraudulent?
Either way I appreciate the work you do to keep this place tidy, thanks man.

I sure try... Thanks. The difference with the post after mine is the phone was never dropped. Warranty is for defects. Insurance is for accidental damage or bricking your phone. My statement was meant for just that, if you do drop it then responsibility should be taken and it is not proper to ask here if you can get away with getting it fixed under warranty.
Cheers
Kenny
Here are the pics I mentioned. Hopefully this does not turn into a widespread issue.
Front camera.
I have the same issue, didn't drop my phone. But the oring has shifted in front of the camera. Im wondering if I send it in if they'll fix it or just send a new one? Because I have a spigen glas.tr screen guard on it and I don't want to be out the money on it. I'd prefer they just fixed it.

I literally smacked the ring out of the way of the ffc. Don't know but this problem seems to happen to a few people.
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app

I had tried knocking it back in place, I'll give that another try I think..before I'm stuck warranting it.
Front camera defect
Hi guys! I just joined this site to share my problem with my new Galaxy S5.
It's been weeks since i got my new phone from T-Mobile. I love it! It's a expensive phone so a good cellphone case is a must. I have a case and screen protector to protect my device. Suddenly, I just found out the same problems you had with your phones. I've never dropped mine either. So I think it's gonna be a manufacturer defect. Something is blocking the front camera. Again, I never dropped my phone, it doesn't have any scratches on the screen and any dents on its body.
I went to my network provider and ask for help about this issue. They sent me a replacement phone (Galaxy S5) after 3 days then I sent over to them the defective one. They said that it depends on the manufacturer/service tech if the phone defect is under warranty or not. I'm still waiting for them to check the phone. Or else I'm gonna be charge $175 out of warranty fee!
I'll attach pictures of my previous Galaxy S5. I hope this is not a widespread problem. Share your thoughts too! Thanks!
