I was on 3.2.3 then I rooted it with towelroot then i left it for an hour or so and came back to use it and it was dead it was fully charged so there's no reason fr tit to be dead, apart from something that went from the software and my computer comes up with usb not recognized or malfunctioned I've tried different unbricking tools but to no success im getting nothing from the kindle it wont even boot so i dunno what I've done wrong
Hmm. I have heard of similar things happening on 3.2.8, but not 3.2.3. Did you try to boot in recovery? Try holding down power and plus for a while.

Yeah sorry I ment 3.2.8 I have tried trying to getting into recovery but no success there as well so I'm not sure where to go from here
Oh, it may be beyond repair sorry. Look around the boards, but many people have had this happen. It was probably a botched ota update.

I agree with this assessment. If the device was at 3.2.8 and OTA was not blocked via HDX toolkit then Amazon likely pushed an update that bricked your device. Apparently the 3.2.8 rollback is not compatible with the 4.5.4 update currently being distributed. To date there have been no successful recoveries from this type of brick.
Blocking OTA with HDX toolkit is essential immediately after rolling back to 3.2.8.

It worked allright, until I tried to do the manuel update. But because I disabled air update earlier, Amazon Kindle couldn't find any update the manual update failed. How do I do to enable the update again, is there anything else I can do to solve this?
Is it possible to reset to 13.3.2.3.2 again?

Rerun the tool kit it has a reenable option. Just out of curiosity did you ask this question back in the HDX utility thread? Nevermind it might not of let you post their.
Anyway if as long as you are using version .94 should work fine for you. And make sure that you have Wi-Fi disabled and even forget your network as you are planning on doing a manual update. If you plan on trying to rollback we advised not to at this time just wait till safestrap is updated and works with the newest firmware... Way too many people are breaking their devices by trying to do the build prop modifications necessary to do these manual updates.. If you want the latest firmware just let it up to Wi-Fi nHit check for updates then you can wipe it root it or whatever... But just to let you know currently safestrap does not work on newest firmware..yet. Just do your homework because there are a ton of brick devices right now that are getting sent in for BS warranty claims.. And I have to emphasize yet again there is no easy way to recover this device at this time if you mess something up unless you are using safestrap and on slot 1 ect...NO fastboot capabilities at this time..And bootloader is locked
Thanks

My advise, don't try rolling back, most likely you will brick your device. Search for an app called kindlefree if Google play is what you want.
btw, thank you for posting in Q&A.
Hi,
Just updated 7" HDX to 4.5.8 after Amazon downgraded it to 3.2.8.
The manual upgrade works fine, but without any prompting it downloads 3.2.8 again installs it and reboots. All of which I cannot control as its done automatically.
Any ideas?
Thanks...

Looks like an answer is surfacing in another thread (sorry, can't post cross link at the moment). If not post back and I'll try to help. Short answer is you need to manually upgrade to 4.5.2 before proceeding to 4.5.3 (assume reference to 4.5.8 is a typo). Note 4.5.3 may limit your options; might be better to stay at 4.5.2.

Which is correct. As I understand it you downgraded to 3.2.8. That breaks Amazon's OTA process. Don't expect support from them going forward.
Yes but they never mentioned any downside and they pushed the downgrade to me. Academic now...Will try the 4.5.2 upgrade and root....is the rooting process described as safe as Towelroot?
Yes. However, you need to reboot a few times for the permissions to reset themselves. After you do it, try super su. If you get an error, reboot. Eventually, it should work.

All Worked...
Thanks for that!
Now got 4.5.2, rooted and OTA turned off.....not sure whether to upgrade to 4.5.3 or f its worth it - particularly if OTA comes back on and I lose root!
You are welcome. Checkout the rollback thread. You cannot root 4.5.3.

Thanks for your help man....I am sticking with this rooted 4.5.2 then for now - does't seem to be much worth upgrading for!
I can't seem to find any working root for my kindle and i'm need help to root this darn thing.
I really want to Get rid of amazon and go get Android kit-cat and use the Google play. Your answer will be thanked if your answer works.
i heard about roll backing my kindle fire hdx but i need more info on how to get into the internal storage folder.
My kindle runs Fire os 4.5.4
I have no idea how to find the firmware...

Its been a long while though.
I guess amazon won the war against rooting...:crying:
This is a brand new update. So, it actually has not been that long. There has been a root found for almost every other release including 4.5.3, but I think they patched it with this new release.

4.5.3? You sure because i Looked everywhere for answers only to find out the roots does not work... But i hope they find a root.
By the way can you reply to me when they have a root out for my 4.5.4 Update. make sure to give me the link. That will be really Nice.
You should be reading through the boards yourself. If you had, you would know they found a root option in China which worked on 4.5.3. It did take a while to find, but they found one.
I can't just hotlink to a file or post because this device is so fickle, you need to understand what you are getting into when you root. I have been on Android since 2.0 and I have never seen a device so easy to ruin and difficult to fix. Sorry.
That Chinese root also doesn't work 100% of the time. It didn't work on my Saturn(HDX 8.9). That said, I seemed to be the only one who had trouble with it.
The update for 4.5.4 came out in the last week.

No, my device is a kindle fire hdx 7, it runs 4.5.4 and it seems like kingroot does not work.
When it fails it gives me this Email Icon with a check mark
and then a number 13096
i even checked it with a root checker and it said no Root access
So that's the error screen. Hope they find a root for 4.5.4 Soon!

There is a way: downgrade to 3.5.8 (there is a thread for it) then upgrade to 4.5.3 then root it with kingroot.

Use great caution if going this route. There are numerous reports of bricked devices following 3.2.8 rollback apparently due to an immediate ota push of 4.5.4 which renders the device unusable. To date there is no known recovery method. If you opt to downgrade you must either block the ota mechanism via HDX Toolkit (other methods do not work) or take steps to prevent network connectivity until 4.5.2 is successfully installed.

Not at this time. Nor is there a benefit relative to 4.5.2. If you are on 4.5.4 you can roll back to 3.2.8 then upgrade to 4.5.2. However, there are risks involved (unrecoverable brick); procedures must be followed exactly.

Sorry - Saturn devices can not be rolled back. The OTAs used are specific to Apollo and Thor. Amazon never offered rollbacks for Saturn thus no one was able to capture the rollback file. The internals are sufficiently different that you'd likely build a brick if you tried to 'force' an Apollo update. Apologize if I missed a prior reference to Saturn and falsely got your hopes up.
I have been working on a new version of Safestrap. This aims to allow devices that aren't unlockable and running update-kindle-xx.4.5.2_user_452004120 to install HDX Nexus ROM v4.xx.
I am looking for a Thor and Apollo tester to confirm that they can indeed install Nexus ROM v4 with this.
I have confidence that this works, but if you agree to do this please understand as usual that you do so at your own risk.
So far the new version has been tested on unlocked devices to confirm compatibility and works fine.
The next stage is to test on locked devices, which as I have said have high confidence that it will work.
The prerequisites for test are:
- Must be running stock update-kindle-xx.4.5.2_user_452004120 firmware
- Must be rooted
Things to be aware of with the new version:
- Secondary slots boot, but the WiFi module does not load
- Since the secondary slots work but have no WiFi, you will need to flash Nexus v4 to the stock slot
Let me know if are interested in helping with this.

Congrats!! Rolled the dice and won!
Be mighty careful around the 4.5.2 update. Those who received it via OTA (may have been 4.5.3/4.5.4) were treated to a hard brick with no known resolution. Best do the update manually using the procedure/files outlined in this thread. Stay off wifi until 4.5.2 upgrade is complete.

my device had no safestrap but it was rooted decided to let it auto update so turned on wifi and checked for update. the update centre said no update found, so went and downloaded 4.5.2 from amazon that was taking a lot longer than it should. checked the update center again. a glitchy 4.1.1 was downloading with the download bar glitching from view. i then let it continue pausing 4.5.2 download it then promptly rebooted and attempted to install 4.1.1 the screen went black through the update. hard brick.. i have my warranty and i have another one coming.
here's a tip don't update to 4.1.1 if you are rooted.
hoping to get a kindle with <3.2.6 my first one was originally that <version

For the benefit of others ...
NEVER take an OTA update on 3.2.8. Every reported incident has resulted in a hard brick. Keep WiFi off until OTA is blocked. The only effective method is via HDX toolkit. Renaming otacerts won't work on 3.2.8.
@ggow Any idea when this version will be released for Thor or if I could help test it? It would be awesome to have 4.5.2 with Safestrap.

I have the tablet rooted via tether. An android update came up today. Could not install it. Im guessing its due to the tethered root. So I tried to reset tablet, still no luck with android update. I then unrooted via supersu, still errors on update. I don't know how to do any future android updates. Anyone have any input/ideas? thanks
If you have rooted your tablet, and did not back up those being-modified files, then restore them, definitely the OTA update will fail.

You might need to find a virgin device , it seems that with some devices that ship with lollipop installed updates will fail simply if the partition has ever been mounted rw.
On those devices you have to dd the raw image back to the system partition before doing ota updates.
Not saying its what is going on with yours what's the log say?
im assuming DD has to do with Linux stuff of which I guess I better start learning. I don't have the tablet. Dell replaced it as it didn't boot up. I was lucky. If I only knew what to do a backup, what to backup and what software, etc...I would love to root it again, but Dell has already sent out 3 updates on this tablet. Once I root it, I cant install updates. It reboots to install update, then a android robot comes up on bootup with the dreaded exclamation mark/triangle, stating update failed. I did not keep a log of it. I know windows since 3.1, maybe its time to learn some Linux
Thanks for helping this newbie
