[Q] Porting camera driver from JeallyBean to KitKat - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
My Smartphone was relased in two versions but only one diffrence between them is a camera (confirmed by technical support). My device has 5 Mpix, second version has 2 Mpix. Now Android 4.4 KitKat for this second version is relased and there are no plans from Manufacturer to prepare update for my device. The question is how i can port camera driver from my JB ROM to KitKat? I have original ROMs (JB) from both devices and original KK from the second one. If solution is not simply please give me link to any tutorials or guides. If its matter the SoC is Broadcom BCM23550.

[Q] Porting from JellyBean 4.2.2 to Kitkat 4.4.4 for Exynos 5250 based YSE5250

Hi,
I have been working on JB sorce code for Exynos 5250 based YSE5250 board. It works fine with JB 4.2.2 and is tested on board.
I need to port this board from JellyBean 4.2.2 to Kitkat 4.4.4.
I went through few referances like youtube.com/watch?v=mvxYt3AkbrEand "Embedded Android" by Karim Yagbmour.
I also went through google's official porting guide source.android.com/devices/index.html
I downloaded aosp project and exynos kernel from google git and tried to do changes according to above references. But I am facing issues while building source.
I am still confused about how I proceed with this task.
Is there any good tutorial or procedure to port boards to android or porting existing Android JB to Android KK?
Any directions/help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sunil.

[Q] Any way to port "Android One" rom to another MT6582?

Hello guys,
I have an MT6582-device with FWVGA Display and JellyBean (Innjoo i1 - only available in the Middle East and Africa) just like the "Android One" devices..
I see a lot of support and ROMS for those devices and they're getting stock Lollipop this month too!
So I thought I could try and port one rom (CM11) for example to my device.
Is this even possible?
I have my device's stock ROM, MIUI v5 that I ported myself to my device, My device boot.img extracted with the kernel, ramdisk, and device tree. (and a Kitkat kernel for MT6582 available at github)
I just need proper steps on how to port Cyanogenmod to my device.
Thanks.
I'm not asking for anything but to tell me if it's possible or not!!

A few questions about porting

Hello,
I read alot lately about porting Lollipop (CM 12.1) to my device (Allview V1 Viper which is basically a rebranded Gionee Elife E3) but i have some questions:
1. As far as i understood, there are some problems with CM and Mediatek devices. However i saw some posts with people succeeding to boot CM 12.1 on these devices. Can this be achieved ?
2. If yes, can i use KitKat stock kernel with a Lollipop build ? (my common sense says no, but who knows ?) If no, how can i build a kernel for Lollipop for this device. I saw that Mediatek released kernel source, can that be used ? Also, can i use the drivers from KitKat ? If no, which and where should i get the drivers from ? Can i use any files from KitKat stock rom for a Lollipop port ?
This will clear some things for the beginning.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Help needed to port a ROM to a differen phone with same SOC

Hi,
I would like to port the novafusion lollipop rom from Samsung golden (S3 mini) to Samsung skomer (XCover 2). They both use the NovaThor U8500 SOC. There is a kitkat rom for skomer (vanir).
Does this mean I have all the bits available I need for the porting?
Can a kernel be used on different phones with the same SOC?
Is there somewhere a list what has changed in the source from kitkat to lollipop - or can I reuse the device tree from the kitkat skomer rom?
Have I missed the "[GUIDE] Port to another phone with same SOC" thread which answers all my questions - and the next to come ?
Best regards
Daniel
