[Q] Bricked and locked my phone :( - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bricked my moto E 2015 LTE and locked the bootloader too. I am not able to flash because I get errors to enable USB debugging and unlock the boot loader. I am not able to flash custom ROM as well.
Phone is not getting to recovery mode where custom boot loader can take over, I get into fastboot mode. Bootloader logs shows error
failed to validate system image
Fasrboot Reason: Fail-through from normal boot mode
Any help appreciated..

Is this what happened to you? http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/general/warning-bootloader-relocking-t3059595
Which model number do you have? (XT1524, XT1526, XT1527 etc) The stock firmware for most models is now available online. You can reflash the signed stock firmware for your model to unbrick it. You will need firmware that matches your CID. You can get your CID from fastboot by running "fastboot getvar cid".
There is a large repository of Moto E stock firmware here: http://www.filefactory.com/folder/752fdb49361c7f62/?sort=filename&order=ASC&show=100
Downloads are rather slow on that site though.
If you have an American model, there are faster downloads here:

Thanks a lot for your response. Will try your suggestion.
Model Number of my phone is XT1521.

I am having the same model XT1521 and showing the same error. Which ROM file you have flashed???

So i am here because my device Moto E 2nd Gen 4G ( Indian Dual Sim XT1521) is not booting up. I had a rooted device with bootloader unlocked but i got an update to android 5.1(OTA) and it was not able to install on my device as it was rooted.
So i decided to revert to stock firmware. My device was running android 5.0.2 at that time but i flashed 5.1 firmware of the same model no. And relocked the device.
But from here the problem started,my device is not booting up now. in bootloader logs it shows can't validate syaytem image and it is now stuck in fastboot mode. Now please tell me what should i do now.

Dude in the bootloader mode go to factory mode and press the power button about 30 - 40 times your phone should boot up and then you can go to settings and enable developer options , OEM Unlock and you can unlock the bootloader and flash the stock rom again

If you're using TWRP recovery you should be able to have it not validate images.

Again flash rom without gapps and check. Or you may have to flash twrp by fastboot
Also, in bootloader, is there any hab check fail or any such error?

you can flash old recovery through fastboot.
Flash older twrp through exact same steps you did to flash the current one.
If that doesn't help then at last flash stock lollipop from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755857
Booting for the first time after flashing stock rom takes time, probably you have to wait atleast 10-15 mins at "Unlocked Bootloader" warning
Avoid downgrading to kitkat

AS330 Stock Firmware

Does anybody have or know where I can get the stock firmware for the LG-AS330?
What happened was I flashed a custom recovery and got the error code 1003 and couldnt boot to recovery but the phone was still usable. The I glashed a boot.img using flashify and now I'm stick in a boot loop that says "Secure booting error! Error Code : 1003 MODIFIED !!" then the phone turns off then goes right back to that screen then repeats. The only thing I can do is get to download mode to flash stuff to it (I think). Anyways, if anybody has or knows where I can get the stock firmware and what program to flash it with it and post the link to the firmware and the program it would be much appreciated.
Always make backups before you flash. As of right now, there is no official stock firmware.

How to get back to a Stock ROM

Hi,
sorry if i'm the 100th person to ask this question but how can i go back to the stock ROM with OTA?
I currently have a flavor of LinageOS with the Turbo Z kernel installed on my phone but it's just to buggy for me. I want to have root access on my phone for various reasons though.
I tried to just download different (6.0/7.0) stock ROM files but i can't install them with TWRP. I know that 7.1.x was released but i can not find the ROM for it.
What is the easiest way to just go back to a stock ROM? I know my way around the console but i don't want to brick my phone. I made backups of my files and also with TWRP so data loss is not an issue.

First things first.
On which bootloader are you, MM or are you on Nougat. If your device has been flashed with the 7(N) bootloader, you cannot flash the 6.0 stock, you will have to stay of 7.
Use the fastboot flash / erase commands, as in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73119650&postcount=1
If at any stage your phone get bricked, ie, black screen after reboot, no charging, etc. Use these instructions. They saved me in the last week from returning my device for a replacement(and paying $350.00):

If you didn't take a backup of your stock boot and recovery before, then i think you'll have to go the long way by flashing the whole rom.
If you manage to install the 7.1.1 OTA after that, boot once into TWRP, backup stock recovery & boot and save it on your sdcard/pc. Then you can start flashing TWRP permantly, root, etc
Someone correct me, if I'm wrong.

The reason that I installed Magisk is because after unlocking the bootloader with the stock rom, it would not boot anymore. Installing a custom kernel or Magisk solves that issue.

Okay I uninstalled Magisk which initiated an immediate reboot and resulted in a bootloop just after the bootloader message.
I think the issue occurs because the Data partition gets encrypted when root is uninstalled and decrpyption fails because of a bad key due to the unlocked bootloader.
To recover, I used TWRP to wipe/format the Data partition and then flashed the no_verity zip file from the thread below which disables encryption. I then ran "fastboot continue" after which my phone booted back into Android:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/help/bricked-moto-z-unlocking-bootlader-t3634701
My phone status was then: Stock Android 7.0.0, no_verity patch (no encryption), stock recovery, unlocked bootloader.
So my phone is about as close to stock as I can get it with unlocked bootloader.
I finally attempted to install the 7.1.1 OTA again. It reboots and indicates that it is installing and then pops up with a message that says "Error".
Pressing the power and up button brings up the recovery screen with the error log (with info that I don't understand) and from there I can reboot into system again where I get another message indicating that the update failed and no changes were made.
I'm hesitant to install RETBR or other non-RETEU roms (Because although they might work, there probably are some differences such as LTE bands etc. and they are not actually correct for my phone) so I'm not sure how else to get to 7.1.1 unless the wifi issue is resolved with the image that Erfanoabdi uploaded in another thread or Lenovo releases an official 7.1.1 firmware package for the RETEU model.

The best for you would be to search for your version of ROM and FASTBOOT FLASH everything back.
Then see if the 7.1.1 OTA wants to stick.

So far I have been unable to find the official RETEU firmware from Adnroid 7.0.0 and I'm hesitant to flash the firmware for another region because it isn't technically correct for my phone and there are likely small differences that might become an issue at a later stage. (Maybe the LTE bands are different etc...)

The LTE band on RETEU is 20 and stays 20 with RETBR. No change and everything works. No issues with LTE.
As I mentioned before, the RETBR version is the only working 7.0 backup for RETEU devices. After flashing RETBR , the softwarechannel changed automatically into RETEU. With this, i took the OTA 7.1.1.
Btw. the 7.1.1 OTA doesn't even change the boot loader Nr.( 0x9107). That means, if you mess up with 7.1.1 you can safely downgrade to 7.0 by flashing RETBR (and take a fresh 7.1.1 OTA again)
Did that twice without issues.(for security reason i always skip the two lines with "bootloader" and "gpt" at the top of the flash commands)

I cannot get RSDLite to detect my phone in fastboot mode so I guess I'm going to have to run the fastboot commands manually.
What do you mean about skipping the bootloader and gpt commands? If I skip those, I keep my stock "unlocked bootloader" and "gpt" but then the phone probably won't boot again because that is very much like what I have now except that I flashed the no_verity patch when my phone would not boot.
What exactly are you avoiding by skipping those two lines? Should I skip them too?

It's out of my knowledge if your verity patch influences either bootloader or gpt partition. So i would recommend to flash those two commands in order to "repair" them. If you'll get an error message, skip them and proceed with the rest.
I always prefer RSD method instead of manually flashing by fastboot commands.
Have you installed the latest version of RSD-lite 6.2.4? Have you installed the latest moto drivers?
If you have extracted the RETBR. zip, search for "flashall.xml" file. Open it with a texteditor and you'll find the correct flashing commands.

If you don't want to download the whole firmware I'll upload the boot.img file when I'm at home on my computer.
Thanks

Btw. Could you write a guide on how to Port TeamWin for Android One devices? I think it would be interesting for other people who don't have TeamWin for their Android One devices.

Hi everyone. I am trying to install twrp but stuck at fastboot menu.
I have unlocked bootloader, because it says device state: unlocked. Then i am trying to fastboot flash but get error. I am trying flash:raw and set_active a and b. I try boot recovery.img. no matter what I do the phone restarts, shows android logo and then go back to fastboot. Fastboot devices shows the phone. What am I missing? Wrong files, wrong order, any better guide or files to test? I am not sure what I have done also flashed a vbmedia file

bricked realme xt (help neended)

I have unlocked the bootloader after that I have installed the twrp and wanted to have the magisk too.
but unfortunately when flashed magisk zip phone got bricked and didnt boot into recovery just go into fastboot (btw the recovery i flashed was also temporary as it has been gone every time i restart and i have to again reflash the recovery) kindly help me how to unbrick my phone????? tried many method found online all in vain.
I was using realme ui 1.0.
So you have unlocked bootloader from ui 1.0 and flash twrp and try to root. Perhaps the magisk is not for ui 1.0. Can you still go into twrp and flash ui 1.0 (c.03) or downgrade? BTY your phone is India version, right?

yeah still i can go to twrp but unable to install the officiAL rom as twrp does not recognizing ozip file so what to do now? i have global version.
So you used stock recovery to flash india version ui 1.0 and unlock the bootloader and flash twrp, that sounds great. Just try to change ozip to zip and see twrp do.

So you hard bricked you phone by locking bootloader.
Maybe you should take it to service center.
Flash twrp 3316 IMG..it will flash ozip
Had boot/recovery destroyed message after attempting to flash a gsi. I followed the unbrick guide. I can access fastboot & boot into recovery, however touch input is not working so I'm unable to do anything. Phone sticks on the realme screen when attempting to let it boot. Any ideas? I live in the US so a service center isn't possible.
XDA seems pretty dead these days. Shame.

it happened to me too. i can help you. first boot into fastboot and use ur computer to flash twrp using command "fastboot flash recovery (attach twrp img here) then boot into recovery which should be twrp and then download orangefox recovery for realme xt. it should be a zip file so just install it using twrp. Then get the official realme xt ozip from their website boom orangefox should install it then wipe data once again.. then start your system. if it goes into recovery again just wipe data again and it should work.
