I live in Colombia, and the OTA will probably take months to come. The recent apps bug has drove me up the wall, and I've read that the 5.1 update fixes the bug, aside from making the device faster. I don't want to lose the Moto Display, so I don't want to flash a custom ROM. I want to know, can I flash a stock rom with TWRP as if it were any other rom? Does the fact that the rom is for retail US phones make it unusable with Colombian carriers? Do you think it's worth to flash a custom ROM, even if it means I won't be able to use Motorola apps?

I have never had the need but I am considering rooting. One item I am concerned about is the ability to get firmware updates after rooting. Do they still prompt/download? If not what do you guys do about this?
NEVER take a firmware update when you're rooted; thats never a good idea. Devs usually get the updates, cook them in the roms, then you would flash the updated rom over your current (if its same) or flash the newly rooted rom. Alot easier than it sounds, you'll get the hang of it. 9 out of 10 times accepting firmware updates will remove root. Just ask the retards that accepted the 2.3 GB update on their Evo 4G lol. Had to wait abt 3 months for root ...
Hi guys, I was curious, I have been using my HTC One I got from ATT on launch day, Now I want to root it, and I can through HTC Dev but I have a OSX Mac 10.8.3 and I am scared of screwing the device up, First of all, Is there any way to run 4.2.2 with zero bugs or issues? if not, what can i do to remove bloatware that i do not want (besides att adress book which i actually use), so I can free up my memory, because I use memory booster and I see lots of stupid stuff that eats away on the RAM, I hate the blinkfeed and I just want to optimize the device, Also once 4.2.2 is available OFFICIALLY i want to be able to upgrade to it without having to go through hassle (ota) if i root I cant do that?

I've had no problems using a Mac in the past with regards to unlocking through HTC Dev.

As you are probably aware, HTC has not released an official 4.2.2 update for the One. Even when they do, you will have to wait for AT&T to release their OTA update for it (since you are using the stock AT&T ROM).
However, once you root your phone you can use a custom ROM instead of the stock AT&T version. Most custom ROMs for the One right now are still based on 4.1.2 and Sense 5 (as they are primarily modifications of the stock HTC sense ROM than entirely new versions), however a few ROMs based on 4.2.2 do exist for the One presently (CyanogenMod, AOKP, etc). Be aware that these ROMs are still early in development and are likely to have some bugs at the moment.

You can install a custom ROM with the bloatware pre-removed or you can keep the stock ROM and root your phone, then simply remove the applications you want manually. Personally, I would recommend you take a look at the Android Revolution ROM, as it is very close to the HTC stock ROM, but it also has some useful mods (such as the percentage battery indicator and performance tweaks) and all AT&T bloat removed. You can always reinstall any AT&T apps you miss if they are available on the Play store (and I'm pretty sure all of them are).

If you don't want blinkfeed you have a few options:
Change your launcher to something other than Sense, such as Nova (does not require custom ROM)
Install a custom ROM that does not have blinkfeed (one of the ROMs not based on Sense)
Stay on Sense but switch your default homescreen to something other than blinkfeed/disable all sources for blinkfeed (this doesn't remove blinkfeed but it does effectively the same thing)

My understanding is that if you simply unlock your bootloader and root your device, but stay on the stock AT&T ROM you will still be able to get OTA updates, however you may have to re-root your phone after doing so. If you want 4.2.2 available right away when HTC releases it you will likely get it faster here on XDA than you will by waiting around for AT&T to push an OTA update, however. Updating your ROM with a custom recovery tool like ClockworkMod is very simple (just place the zip on your SD card and click "update from zip" in CWM), so personally I don't see the big deal of having OTA unless you aren't near a computer much. Some custom ROMs even support OTA updates for that ROM.
I want to get rid of some pre-installed apps and get tethering working. I found these instructions, but they seem to be for users in the UK, and I live in the US. IDK whether installing that ROM would work or leave me with useless brick.
Wouldn't recommend it. Especially since you probably don't have access to the original firmware / rom from Cricket-ZTE to restore it if it does not work. Plus it doesn't say which update that was based off of and it might not be compatible with your firmware at all.
We are in the "soon" state from january, first with 5.0 and now with 5.1 and this phone is pratically becoming "motorola moto indians" considering that only them are getting soak and/or updates, so, what do you guys think? wait or go for a custom? i'd flash a custom now but i read everywhere people that have problems going back to stock after flashing custom roms on the E and someone says that this is the easiest phone to brick (why? dunno)
ps. yeah i really want to change, stock 4.4.4 it's giving me problems and since i need to reset soon i want to upgrade.

That someone is probably me I guess? Well ya, some devices are unbrickable but some devices like this one are easily brickable [emoji20] One bad move and you would end up with a bricked device with no rescue. There's more that can happen, unfortunately Please be careful, do not depend on OTAs much because they are the most famous sources of bricks. Always prefer flashing ROMs via TWRP latest. Also, if you want stock, ask someone to upload their TWRP backup of system and boot partitions if you already have messed up with OTAs before because at this point of time, we really don't know which OTA can brick the device so please stay away from them and prefer custom ROMs or TWRP nandroid backups [emoji55]

Once the factory image is released, I guess it'll be easy to flash it via fastboot.
Planning to get a new moto z from a carrier since theybare having a sale and not charging anything for the phone. Fiancé is planning to switch to that carrier anyway since her workplace and is switching all phones to it.
I liked the idea of the moto mod and was thinking of getting the new turbopower pack by Motorola instead of the incipio one. I read that the turbopower requires the moto mod platform to be at 1.6 for it to work. I believe the nougat update brings the platform to 1.6 right?
At the same time, I want to use custom roms on this phone and I read that going to official stock nougat updates the bootloader and brings problems to custom roms. So my question is, can custom roms update the mod platform to the latest while keeping the bootloader on marshmallow? Can we flash nougat custom roms while on marshmallow bootloader with no problems?
