Well this past week I was in a area and had 4g lte the whole weekend on my S6 edge. My girlfriend has the S5 and was only on 3g the whole time. We both are one the same verizon account. My download speeds was twice as fast, when we got back home on Sunday her phone went back to 4g lte. So I was picking up lte in a area she couldnt.
most people complain that the edge can't get as good a LTE connection as the s5

My contract with Verizon ends this week. Really thinking hard about switching from Verizon to AT&T to get this phone. I went and played with one at the store yesterday. Screen was amazing! I have unlimited data with Verizon right now and thats the only thing holding me back right now. Anyone make the switch and care to comment.
Had the iphone and other android phone with verizon madebthe switch day one the Gnote came out And love it i also had unlimited data l and gave it up just got 5 gbs and i dont thin it will.make a big difference As im on wifi at home most of the time butbi rarely hit 5 gbs while on verizon but the GNote is totally worth the switch to AT&T specially if yu got LTE in your city

I did the same thing! The note is the craziest phone ever! I'm in the same boat I usually use wi fi at home so it wasn't a huge deal to go down to 3 gigs a month. Plus the deal killer with verizon was the spotty 4G lte coverage. If I switched from lte to 3g I was losing data for about 5 minutes at a time, or I would lose it altogether! I complained so much they let me out of my contract almost 2 years early. Best thing I ever did!

Well major bummer! Was excited to switch to AT&T this week for the Note. Thought my contract was up on the 15th. Seems I'm eligible for a discount on the 15th and my contract goes through July. I'll be keeping an eye on this forum and if the Note/Journal or whatever they might call it doesn't make it Verizon by then...see ya Verizon!
I'm making the switch and can't wait. I'm also giving up unlimited data but have never used that much data anyway. That may change when I get this phone because I may have better HSPZ+ and LTE coverage .
Verizon
My contract with Verizon is up in June.
If no news on the Journal by then: it's AT&T and The Note.
Been with Verizon for eleven years. First and only carrier.

You find ATT's LTE coverage less spotty than Verizon?

I LOVE my note, but if I wasn't locked into AT&T I would have looked hard at the galaxy nexus. I'd miss the bigger screen of the note, but the nexus screen is pretty big as well, and it's always nice to have a google phone. It's still LTE, already running ICS, and probably will have better/more sustained devleopment over its lifetime. Plus, I think overall verizon coverage is a little better and more reliable, although in my area, AT&T is fine.
A potential upside to AT&T is that if you are in an area where Verizon doesn't have LTE, I think (but I'm not sure) that Verizon falls back to CDMA, which is slower than even 3G on AT&T. But if you don't have LTE on AT&T, there's a good chance that HSPA+ 4G is available instead, which is noticeably faster than 3G on AT&T, which, again, is itself faster than Verizon's CDMA. This is to say, that if I'm not mistaken, if you're with Verizon and you don't have LTE, you're looking at pretty slow data on CDMA. But if you have AT&T there's a good chance you're on HSPA+ instead and still looking at some pretty stout speeds.
Coming from my iphone 4 on AT&T 3G, I find that their 4G HSPA+ is noticeably faster (in real usage, not just tests) than 3G was. And the HSPA+ coverage is nice... in fact, I'm not sure I've been on a 3G network yet anywhere I've been, it's all been at least HSPA+ or LTE, even out in the country. My understanding is that Verizon's LTE rollout is quite a bit more widespread than AT&Ts at this point, but I haven't been on it to say for sure just how far past the cities it really is. If their LTE coverage gets to the areas you frequent, you're good to go already, but if it's not much further out than around big cities, depending on where you spend your time, you could see faster speeds with AT&T by utilizing their 4G HSPA+ in areas where Verizon does not yet have LTE. So that's my long winded version of what I *think* I know, but I'm sure someone will correct me.
Anyway, after having the big ass screen, I don't think I could ever go smaller. Bigger, sure, maybe another half an inch or more, but I would struggle adjusting to something smaller.
Another Verizon to AT&T GNote user here. Had unlimited 4G on a Thunderbolt. Was worth it to switch back to AT&T (which I had before Verizon) since we now have LTE in New York.
I even broke contract with ETF to do it. Still worth it to me.
I just switched from a iPhone 4S on Verizon with unlimited Data to the Note on AT&T
I'm not even looking back NOTE=WIN
I had the Verizon galaxy nexus.....I switxhed to tmobile to get the galaxy s2...withing 14 days I broke contract to at&t....lol....the galaxy nexus is nothing to brag about...tmobile s2 is faster to me..but crappy customer service and signal....so far the coverage on At&t where I live is awesome..and the note rooted...with v6..scripts makes this phone a blazing beast by far the best phone I've owned

Folks,
I went to a Telstra shop (Australian 4G network provider) and was testing the 4G capabilities of the device. Having a HTC one XL to compare and an SII 4G, I noticed that it took a lot longer to connect to 4G. When it did connect we could only run speed test once on 4G and then it would not reconnect to 4G, always sitting on 3G. It was not a reception issue as the other 2 devices next to it were working fine. We placed the phone in flight mode, turned off data, 're enabled data, etc and nothing would get it back on 4G. There was only one SIII to check or compare so I am curious if others have the same issue? I can confirm it was running 4.1.1. I wonder if other i9035 users experience the same thing or its just a Telstra / one off device issue?

Not sure abt telstra but my virgin S3 4G always stick to 4G whenever available

They are meant to automatically connect back and forth from 4g to 3g where evere there is the coverage. There might be a setting, I am using Vodafone at the moment as my number has been with vodafone for ages, and I am not that worried about 4g untill the coverage becomes much larger, by then Vodafone is going to jump in the game anyway Early 2013, so will see how it goes, might jump into telstra or optus, I am pre-paid as I love to have the choice and no lock-in contractss
I'm on Telstra in Melbourne and can confirm the data speeds are fantastic and don't have any trouble getting on the 4G network. Infact, when in a 4G coverage zone it is always on 4G, doesn't 'step-down' to 3G or HSDPA+, Just sits on 4G ready and waiting.
I got 2.8MB/s down and 2.4MB/s up from my work on Collins Street.
So couldn't be happier.
And once I rooted and removed all the bloatware, runs perfectly! Really couldn't be happier.:good:
One thing I noticed is this modem is better than the standard S3. I get better 3g signal now inside my place than before.
At Sydney airport.....first taste of 4g. Wow! It's fast.
I have done a few speed tests of my data and it has always been good. The other morning I was at Skippers airport on the way to work and I thought I would give my speed a test.. 48mbps, I was shocked (in a good way..), I did not know those speeds were possible.. I need a speed app with a higher speedo as mine stops at 20mbps.. So old school now with 4g around..
Max I got in the city was 50mbps (bear in mind I only did two tests). My speed at home using my Optus ADSL connection (with Optus) my speed was under 2mbps.. Crazy difference..
Attached is a pic of my speed tests, the last two are the really cool ones.. I will have to test the speeds at Skippers when in the airport again next week.

For some reason I haven't been able to cnnect to LTE here in Olympia, WA. Works great 3-4 bars on my Nexus, anyone else around here having problems? Voice works fine, and I am getting full 4g signal.
Thanks
I'm in Seattle and getting fine LTE - maybe call VZW? Might need a new sim?

You're in oly there's your problem. .....I kid. If settings didn't work then yes sim card could be an issue. Don't think mine has dropped LTE since I got it. But I left the nw for the warm South.
I'm in Portland, and I have no 4G connection for some reason. I activated my phone online and it told me to use the sim card that was in my gnex. I've even tried to switch my preferences from global to CDMA/LTE but no go. I should have full bars where I'm at.
My phone just stays on 3G.
*EDIT*
Decided to call Verizon and activate the sim card that came w/ the Note and 4G is working so all is well. Kinda weird you have to activate a new sim each time you get a new phone...
I live in Puyallup WA and I have full bars 4G just like I had with my Galaxy Nexus and Razr Maxx. I used to get poor reception in big department stores with my GN, so far the Note 2 has gotten better reception in the same stores.

Hey guys while I don't get terrible signal on my s3.how is the note in somewhere like the country? I sometimes drive through the country to visit my friends, and sometimes I don't even have signal in some of the areas I drive through.

outside of 4g lte the note 2 shines! I never had much trouble with my s3 in 4g territory but 3g was spotty and would occasionally get some data drops...not a huge deal, but I have not had one data drop with the gn2 where I had them with the s3.
Thanks, definitely will be looking into maybe getting a replacement since I have such a long winter break!

My experience has been the opposite. I live in a rural(ish) area. The drive between my house and the city large enough to warrant a 4G market is about 30 minutes long and involves intermittently picking up 4g about 3 times before it locks in as you get closer to town.
My S3 was quick to pick up 4G, but would briefly drop data and voice coverage in the "holes". The N2 is slower to pick up the 4G towers, but makes the transitions without interruption. The N2 has a much better radio IMHO.
((Important Note)) I ran the S3 stock for the first couple of weeks and then moved to Synergy Nightlies most of the time with occasional stabs at CM10. I flashed new basebands on the S3 as soon as they were leaked. The N2 was purchased on 12/12/12 about ten minutes after I learned of Adam Outler's team and their unlock hack. So none of my very unscientific opinions have anything to do with a stock S3 vs. stock N2 experience.
So much jonesing for a 1080p screen with a recent Android version, snappy interface, and replaceable battery and replaceable microSD... I somehow forgot the reputation Samsung has for CDMA radios.
Whereas my Rezound provided consistent 4g at my home and in the park and downtown... my S4 gives no 4g at home (you read that right-- NO 4G at home), and occasionally some 4g in town. 3g is pretty consistent on the S4.
Short of
a) moving to a home on top of a Verizon tower
b) dropping a small fortune on a different phone,
how do I go about improving 4g reception on the phone? Is there anything that will help? Enabling/Disabling Power Saving mode? Fancy case? Carrying a cantenna around?
I've run the phone stock. I've also tried the VRUAME7 modem from arcanexvi's I545VRUAME7 Radio thread on my stock VRUAMDK ROM with no difference.
EDIT: Resolution was going to Verizon Wireless Store and having them replace with/activate a new SIM-- instant 4G connectivity after.
It wouldn't hurt to try a new SIM. Some folks, myself included, had bad SIMs that would give preference to EVDO over LTE.
Okay I was just at a Dennys and one of the customers with an S3 on VZW was showing me that he had 4G service. I'm wondering if my issue may be related to this being a phone purchase on Swappa from an east coast seller. I'm based on the west coast.
Pretty sure it isn't the SIM because the same SIM works fine in my Rezound and gives 4G service on the Rezound in the same areas where my S4 is stuck on 3G... That being said, I may drop by the VZW store to see if they can swap out the SIM just to rule out the possibility of something obscure with the SIM.

The SIM that caused me problems worked like a champ in my Galaxy Nexus. When placed into the S4, it would default to EVDO. Not necessarily saying that's the case with yours, but it's a quick and easy thing to try.

Thank you! Not sure if it was the physical change of SIM or if it was the configuration the tech was doing there in the store, but the whole process resulted in me getting 4G reception on my S4 all over town consistently and at home!
