Guys, I'm still new to android so excuse my ignorance.
My s6 is rooted and I don't have a custom ROM. What I do have is a highly tweaked phone (sqlite and other CSC tweaks) What I would like to know is that is it possible to create a Firmware backup of my current phone and state as it sits so if i get into trouble i can use Odin and flash the backup i created. The caveat here is that I don't believe i can install CWM b/c it will trip the Knox counter.
Thanks
Please post in the right direction.

Hi All,
I have some questions I couldn't find an answer to...so here goes:
1. I have an Asian RaZr 65.1.40.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03. Which ICS Leak can I install?
2. If something goes wrong, is there a way out?
3. Can I go back to GB (even if nothing goes wrong?)
4. When the official ICS is released, how different will it be from the one I flash right now? ANd if let's say I want the official one, can I upgrade to it from the Leaked ROM?
5. Will I be able to go back to GB and then upgrade to the official ICS without problems??
Thanx a lot!
From what I have heard, ICS updates your kernel meaning you cannot downgrade back to GB. It's a one way trip my friend.
Shouldn't an Thread Name tell me in short words, what's going on in here?
I mean i read it and think > yeah, an guy is pissed off because of Threads and kicks everybody through the forum
But no luck, just the same question

Yeah...you are right, I should have written the name in the thread. But I was just a little scared as there are many other threads with more or less the same question...however, since my device is ASIA, I thought its a different.

Oh...that was my fear...so in short, once the official ICS is out, there is no way I can get it??

first thing is:
questions go in the q&a section. reported.
and as stated above, there is no need to rush into this. all the information is here and only if you are capable to read up on it, you will understand what you are doing. only then should you start flashing roms and root your phone. without the basic information you are likely to destroy your new phone.
1) you don't need to be rooted to update to ICS. Select the Samsung ICS Stock rom for your place from this link and download it. Don't worry the guide for flashing through is there in the link
2) you can then download the kernel from this link to root you phone. The guide is there for this too..
enjoy your S2 with root. It is definitely worth it..
Though fair warning.. You'll lose your warranty.
Check out the links in my signature
I'm looking for a GT-I9100 Stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread firmware.. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

this is not a froum where you're spoon fed on infromation. You want to know something? Google is your friend. You want to find something? I don't see why Google wouldn't be capable of that either.
To help you along the way..
You can find all or most stock firmwares for samsung devices at http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Good luck!

Okay, you carrier doesn't have an update for you yet.
If you want to update, it has to be manually (Odin/mobile odin).
Go to the general section and read information posts, there's a lot of information about flashing, versions (both stock or customs), rooting and a whole lot of useful stuff.
You need to learn a bit, so you won't harm your device, hence, harm yourself
Exactly, there are enough posts and guides in the General section
But as a hint: Most firmwares flashable via Odin only contain one file which has to be put in the pda field in odin
You can choose the firmware for your country on sammobile.com..

Well firstly a little tip, do not use idiotic generic titles like "need help". Topic titles are supposed to be descriptive of topic content so that people browsing forum get an idea of content.
Second, I would HIGHLY recommend you go and do some reading because you obviously haven't. There are plenty of guides and topics that already answer your questions. Spoon feeding is not allowed.
I also recommend watching the video that you're shown when signing up..

Sorry if it's being asked a lot. I was flashing ROMs last night and I wasn't in the most stable of mind set. Anyway I wake up to a text from my buddy about this update. I remember doing a Samsung update but not an ota and it never went to download mode. How can I tell if I updated it?
I keep seeing VRUAME7 as the new update but this is my current about info and my build is obviously a different rom but my baseband isn't what I see as the before and after screenshot and I just checked my phone with a root checker and it passed. Sorry for being a noob but I came from a gnex! Can anyone give me an idea how to check if I did or if I'm fine?
Sorry I meant to post this in help / q&a not general sorry please move it!!

You're running a custom ROM (CleanROM), so you don't have the update. You do not want to flash the update since it kills root access and prevents the bootloader workaround. This is discussed in nearly every thread in the forum right now.

If you updated you wouldn't have a Root and I don't think you'd have a custom ROM.

The update fails if you have a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM), which is needed to flash roms. So as long as you have a custom recovery the update can't go through

Thank you. Thanks everyone. I was used to nexus prior to this so I wasn't sure. Thanks for all the answers. I have root, still on CleanRom, build/radio didn't change and can access recovery. Thanks again and sorry that this is in the wrong section.

No problem. I came from the Gnex too and there is definitely a little bit of a learning curve with the S4 modding scene compared to the Gnex. Questions are the only way we learn!

Yes. Especially since I don't fully understand this auto Loki (I understand it flashes a pre release kernel that is insecure hence how I rooted the phone via Odin and motochopper in the first pkace), that and with the boot loader still being locked or at least not unlocked and being bypassed I wasn't 100% positive. Now can I flash the new modem.bin from the update via Odin without messing anything up? From this thread:

Thank you everyone, and again if a mod see's this please move to q/a forum I didn't mean to post here!

Sorry, thats not how it works. Its all written out for you already. As mentioned twice already, go to the general section and look for the thread "stickied" at the top with the title "sticky roll-up thread" which had all the guides you need, including the one you want right now

Alright thank you for replying, but could you link me up to this thread/topic you are on about, I can't find the right one anywhere and it's confusing and a hassle to find, I need instructions to go from aokp mr 1 milestone 1 ( 4.2.2) back to Sammy stock rom (4.1.2) so could someone please just tell me or link me up to the specific thread or something please, sorry if I'm being a bit of a douche and a real hassle for you guys but I'm just not getting it.
Thanks once again,
Nick

Look at the top of this page. You will see...
> Samsung Galaxy S III I9300, I9305 > Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > [Q] GT-i9300 back to stock from aokp
You're in the SIII 9300,9305 forum, in the Galaxy SIII Q&A, and in your thread. Click on the first bit and you will see the General forum in the list. Click on that and read those stickies. (got a stick pin beside them)
Then you should probably spend some time looking at the other entries there to get used to how the forums are organised - will save you (and others) a LOT of time.

If you don't need a sammobile.com stock ROM, you don't want to return it to stock then. So your question really is "How do I restore a Nandroid backup?" ????
Or perhaps you're confused and you think a nandroid backup will take you back to full stock? It wont. Sammobile.com is the only way to return to stock. Nandroid backups only restore your ROM and DATA. They do not restore your recovery, bootloader, modem to stock.
So, either
1) You want to return to full stock, in which case you need to follow the guide we have pointed you to multiple times already
2) You're wasting everybody's time by posting one thing and meaning another.
okay thank you for explaining, and i am very sorry and wasting your time, i would like to flash my nandroid stock rom if i can, could you help me with this please ?

That means you want to restore a nandroid backup that you took some time back . Just look up how to restore a nandroid back up and youre done but i strongly suggest going back to stock , rooting your phone and then then restoring the backup . or atleast properly flash a 4.1.2 custom rom after clearing all the necessary files and then restore your backup . but Flashing stock through ODIN and then rooting and then restoring is the best way to go i feel Good luck

Ah ok. Understood.
I think you should read the link in my signature "read before rooting". Its not a guide but has lots of information every rooted user needs to know
You should also be able to piece together what you want to do by reading it
