[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 - bootloop - recover photos - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have problem with my Samsung, I've bee using it for some time with CM 11 - currentlly there is latest snapshot installed.
Anyway phone started showing some issues few days ago - but today it is just stuck on the boot.
I can get either into download mode and ClockWorkMod Recovery, but can't get ADB to connect to pull files I need.
I didn't also find my photos in CWM backup files (although I cannot extract all of them).
In CWM I can mount USB Storage - but this is external card, where there are no photos. They are in /sdcard/0/, but I can't force it to mount this as USB Storage.
What can I do? Any help and hints appreciated.

@Delwing: you can try to replace CWM by TWRP and access sdcard0 by its built-in filemanager. But probably your system or partitions are gone, then it won't work either.

When I go to install zip in CWM I can browse the directories I need, so I will give it a shot. Thanks for suggestion.

Although copying files to sd card throguh TWRP didn't work at least I see device in adb console, so now I am copying files to my computer
Thanks a lot!

@Delwing: you're welcome - you figured it out by yourself

[Q] Can't see sdcard in recovery mode.

Hey,
I've flashed Omega 33.2 and Siyah 1.8 kernel.
I used 5.5.0.4 CWM recovery (didn't change the recovery, just flashed Omega and right after Siyah).
I then flashed something from Omega kitchen that I guess made some problems with the ROM, so I got in a bootloop. Not a problem - I will just flash the rom again and everything will be ok, but unfortunately I deleted the rom from my phone memory. In those situations I just go inside recovery and mount the sdcard, so I went into mounts and storage -> mount /sdcard, I connected to my computer (windows 7) but nothing happened. So I tried to install kies, but it didn't help too. I also tried the same in Ubuntu (maybe it's mass storage and not MTP because from what I know linux doesn't support MTP), but it didn't worked.
I end up taking my external sd card, putting the rom on it, and flashed the zip from the external sd card.
I don't want to do it every time I want to put something in my phone through recovery. How can I fix this problem? (Yes, I tried more than one USB slot and cable).
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply.
Tried TWRP, CWM touch 6, but it didn't work. I tried to mount external sd card and it didn't work also. Tried windows7, ubuntu (I think it's mass storage so it should work), and another computer with windows7, but didn't work in neither of them.
Also, tried 'adb devices' when the phone is plugged in in recovery and it didn't see the device too. Does adb suppose to work when I'm in recovery? (I'm developing Android apps so I'm sure that adb is 100% working when the phone is on).
In CWM 6, I press mount /sdcard and after I press the text is still mount /sdcard (doesn't change to unmount), and when I press mount /ex-sdcard it change to unmount /ex-sdcard but doesn't appear on the computer also.
Does anybody else is facing the same problem? very annoying :S
Nobody faces this problem too..? :/
same issue here!!! trying to get some help as I don't have an SD card available right now

[Q] Bricked?

I may have messed up the flash steps when I was trying to flash SuperNexus from Froyo? So I did the following first:
Make a Nandroid backup
Then I put those two files on the phone with the following adb commands:
adb push SuperNexus-2.0-vibrantmtd-BUILD4-update2.zip /sdcard/
adb push gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip /sdcard/
After that I did
Do a Wipe/Factory Reset
Now I'm lost at the following step:
Flash SuperNexus ROM
On the CWM recovery interface, now when I select
install zip from sdcard
and then
choose zip from sdcard
I can't find the sdcard directory from the long list of directories such as Android, DCIM, data, external_sd, voodo, etc.! Where is sdcard?
Is it because the Nandroid backup didn't back up those two files (SuperNexus and gapps) because I did them backwards?
Now the screen only shows an open trash can with the Android logo, and it does not response? Is the phone bricked??? What can I do now?
Someone, please help!
When you click choose zip from sd card that takes you to your sd card and every folder contained in it. I usually just download ROMS with my phone and it puts them in the download folder. So when I "choose zip from sd card", then everything is in the folder "download". Next time either download with your phone or connect to your pc and put the files in a folder you will remember, example : sdcard/download. If you have pushed with adb then it might not be in a folder at all, I'm really not familiar with adb, maybe they were put in a folder named adb? I'm not familiar with the screen you speak of either, but it sounds like you have soft bricked your phone. Go back to stock with this guide http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guid...nja-apps-everything/page__p__11106#entry11106 if you are indeed soft bricked.

Just plug in you usb select mass storage and copy it in the main memory(where Android, DCIM, data, external_sd, voodo exist ) not in the External memory.... the other procedure rather than adb pushing was correct... this will be fine.:good:. try again and let us know if you passed well..... for being more sure put out your mini sd card from phone.....

Thank both of you for the kind suggestions!
It was quite scary for me since this was the first time I encountered such a scenario. After the soft brick, I managed to boot the phone into download mode many times, but the computer would not be able to detect the phone! Then accidentally I booted it into recovery mode, and the computer somehow recognized it. So I decided to just push the .zip files again with adb, After that everything went smoothly.
Now I'm fully enjoying JB!
glad you figured it out somehow... get used to it it will become easy to you when you do this again and again cause this phone can't be brick-able.. :highfive:

Noob mistake. Wiped data in TWRP - Including the OS

My G3 is a blank slate right now.
I put the SD card into my PC and downloaded the CM12 file and the Gapps file. Now with it back in the phone I can't find them. I click install > External Sd > nothing there.
Under "mount" it wont let me click the SD card.
Where do I start?
I would plug the phone in and reflash back stock and start over. But u could try mounting the the phone as usb storage and dl the files directly to it thn search for them on the internal storage since it wont connect to the sd.

Plug it into where and reflash it how? You have to ELI5. I'm reformatting my SD card now to see if it will recognize it.
Wow. I really had to go through some trial and error there. I spend the last few hours trying to get the ADB side loading to work. Trying ever driver known to man. I kept getting the no devices message. There was a specific order that it had to be done in order for it to be recognizing the device at the time of loading. Enable mtp > adp > plug in > side load.
I'm up and running CM12 now. And I'm ready for bed!
Since you have twrp installed, why not just get an SD card and put a ROM on it and flash? Seems like the easy way to me.
For future reference, was the phone recognized by adb when in TWRP? If so, did you try to push any files to the internal storage?
I did that once I just flashed a tot file then just rerooted I couldn't connect phone back with adb or anything

Can't Access Android Inrternal Storage?

I have a Sony Xperia Z2 running Android 6.0.1 stock, unlocked bootloader, and custom kernel(abricot), with TWRP. Everything was fine until I encountered a problem with transferring files from PC to phone over USB. I booted into TWRP and ran the 'Fix Contexts' option. That fixed the copying problem. But now I cant seem to access my internal storage via ES File Explorer (or the default one). I can view all my pics on internal storage via gallery. While checking, I found out that /storage/emulated/0 isn't mounted. So I used the terminal in TWRP to mount it. But that didn't fix it either(the directory disappears after a reboot). I also tried to install a script I found on XDA that claimed to fix this problem with no luck. I am still able to access internal storage via TWRP File Manager and over USB(MTP). My last resort would be to do a clean install. What could be the cause of this problem? Is there a way I can fix it?

Stuck in logo after rebooting. Can't flash a rom either.

So today I was looking at memes on Reddit and the pictures stopped loading. I was almost out of storage space so I thought maybe it had finally filled with memes and that a restart would delete some temporary files (?).
But after the restart it's stuck on the booting animation.
I am using Lineage OS 8.1, been using it since April with no issues.
I'm trying to mount it so I can copy the files but there seems to be some issue:
If I plug it in while stuck on the animation it doesn't show as a file system
If I use my desktop (Win 10) and plug it in using the mount option in TWRP it doesn't show up either
If I use my laptop (Win 10)and TWRP mount it shows up and I can seem to delete files but I can only access the sd card and I can't put files in there
If I use my laptop (Manjaro Linux) I can mount the drive and list all the files but I can't read or add anything.
So... I can't copy my files, I can't update to a new ROM and I can't boot.
I also tried using "adb devices" on my desktop pc but the phone doesn't show up in there if I'm in fastboot. It only shows up in recovery and bootloop modes :S
No idea what to do here.

Hey! I don't like asking this but... did you try switching your phone off and turning it on again ?
Okay, if you can access TWRP then try wiping dalvik and cache and it might just do the trick!
Also, try removing the SD card if you have one and restart. Corrupt SD cards can be the culprits behind implausible errors. Another thing you can try is draining battery to 0% and charge completely and try switching the phone on again.
Now these are just some easy and dubious fixes that might work and most likely won't. But just give it a try. If that didn't work we can try something else :
If you can access TWRP which I think you can because your phone is stuck at "boot animation" and not the boot logo. You can simply flash another ROM. I don't understand why you say that you can't do that.
1. Just take an SD card, copy any ROM you want to install.
2. Insert the SD card and reboot to recovery.
3. Flash the zip and you're done
If I'm missing something do let me know. Good luck!
