Other than the Netflix capability, are there other functional differences between the two ROMs? I've been running Vegan-Tab since receiving my GTablet but being a tinkerer (though, not too adventurous), I was thinking about flashing a new ROM.
Thanks for your thoughts.
I'd like to add to your question if I could, as I've been feeling the same. If I opt for Cyanogen, if I am currently running Vegan 5.1.1, can I use the 'recovery method' to load it on from Vegan (would want the nightlies), or just use CWM? Basically, just wondering if I need to resort back to stock or anything.
You can load it from cwm just like any 1.1 rom.
I really like CM7. Its been really stable for me. Its worth a flash in my opinion.
CM7 runs Android 2.3.3 (soon to be 2.3.4) and Vegan runs Android 2.2. That in a big difference. The file structure for CM7 is a little funky at times also. I prefer Vegan 5.1.1 over CM7 but that's just my opinion. Both firmwares are made by very talented developers.
I just answered to another post in the general section about this very thing...
I have two gTabs (one running VEGAn 5.1.1 and one running CynogenMod 7.0.3). The VEGAn 5.1.1 gTab takes about 30 to 45 seconds to boot up when powered on, the CynogenMod 7.0.3 takes about 2 minutes to boot up when powered on.
VEGAn 5.1.1 is really fast. That and if you install and use the VTL Launcher it makes the gTAB a pretty nice experience. It doesn't let me watch movies via the Netflix app but I can watch any of my ripped dvd movie files (xvid-avi) without any issues with the stock video player.
CyanogenMod 7.0.3 is also fast (once it finally boots up) and it has location tracking via wi-fi that is really accurate and also let's you install and run and stream movies via the Netflix app if you have a Netflix account without problems (if you install the Netflix apk with the device check disabled). But I have yet to play a single movie file from one of my ripped dvds on it even using RockPlayer or Mobo Player. Everytime I try and open one of the xvid-avi movies the app starts like its going to play the movie but then within a second it shuts down without any errors or messages.
So, they both have use to me today but if somebody can get Netflix to stream movies on VEGAn I will probably leave CyanogenMod.
Anyway, you should be able to flash either roms via ClockworkMod version .08 (bekit) on your gTab without issues since that is what I've been doing since I've bought these gTabs back in November of last year. Just remember to clear data/cache/davik cache for best results.
Good luck.
Well, there's Vegan Ginger as well. That's 2.3.3, and it was based on CM7. It has lots of nice little modifications (such as the void.fstab change already incorporated so the internal memory stays as /sdcard instead of /emmc) already incorporated, but there hasn't been a lot of news from GoJimi since RC1 was released. CM7 has advanced, including resolving most issues on the Gtab.
Also, since it's being updated constantly (via the nightlies), I get the sense that all of the issues will be straightened out, and I have some sense of what to expect in each update. It's for that reason more than anything that I switched to CM7 a while back. I'm running the most recent nightly.
The big issues with CM7 are currently two-fold:
1. Void.fstab mounts the internal memory as /emmc, which is what Google wants. However, applications want to use /sdcard, so you'll want to flash the void.fstab fix that you can find by searching on these forums.
2. Boot times. I'm not sure what the issue is, but after you install quite a few apps, especially if you install them via a non-Market source, the boot time increases. It takes about 75 seconds for my tablet to boot; my phone boots in about 20. Once it's booted, though, it works well, so typically I only reboot it once a week or so.
Hi,
I'm having a Nook tablet 16GB model here. I am running rooted stock software, version 1.4.1, I think. Using GO launcher EX.
I have just updated Firefox browser for Android (the new version with the curvy tabs up top thing), I was testing out the browser and logging in to Gmail when it crashed on me then the whole device become unresponsive. Nothing I can do whatsoever, can't even turn off the screen. Touch gesture doesn't work, hardware button doesn't work.
It's a software crash, not the failed flashing roms, so I don't know if it can be called bricked or not. But as of now I'm really desperate for any fix! Anyone who can, please help!
Thanks!
Have you tried holding the power button for about 20 seconds to make sure it is turned off?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the reply
I did try to hold it to reboot (I held pretty long, but I'm not sure if it was 20 sec or not, probably 10-12 sec or so), but it doesn't work.
But I just managed to pull through just now (connecting to PC via the USB cable, it doesn't response at first, but it the pc recognised it so I left it there a bit, when the storage came up, I tried to push some small files through, and the screen started to be responsive again) thanks for helping anyways.
*** Message to other Nook tablet owners *** : I'm not really sure if it's just me or someone out there can get this problem also, but I just want to warn fellow Nook Tablet owners: Do NOT update Firefox for Android browser to the latest version! It WILL crash! I haven't tried it with CM7 or CM9, but in rooted B&N ware version 1.4.1, the latest version of Firefox does NOT work!
--> Fix: if your tablet become unresponsive after the crash like mine, try connecting to a PC and push files through.
I generally use Dolphin HD, but somehow the latest version of Dolphin can't access Gmail although it browses other websites just fine, so that's why I tried Firefox for Android and it crashed on me. I'm a big fan of Firefox on PC but regrettably I have to say its android version is a big disappointment!
So I guess now I have to use Dolphin and Opera Mobile.
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/aurora/
The v14 version specifically does not work on tablets in their release notes!
Download the v15 firefox aurora alpha version instead. Tested on my cm7 sd card rooted nt 8gb and works. crashes now and then, so not as stable as opera, but loads pages fast.
To chime in, Firefox does work on the CM9 alpha. It does suffer from the same "jagged" scrolling effect as everything else, though. But otherwise, works great

got it here in Pa also.
Do you see any difference? My Venue seems faster and smoother, but that could just be my imagination.
Just saw that update here. It's a 305.9mb file. I hope there will be a root method for this update soon.
The color line on the speaker side seemed it has been fixed. Flipboard density seems to be fixed too.
App loads bit faster (I think).
Still not compatible with GTA SA. :S
Home under device setting kept crashing for me after update.
Been playing with my Venue for a few hours and the update has been more positive then negative.
Pros:
Apps look like they load faster
Games seem smoother - Especially my fav Dead Trigger 2
More memory allocated
Cons:
Seems to be crashing more
Wifi keeps dropping
Will add more as days go on
Excellent, this is a surprise... downloading....

Also, the lining in landscape mode seems to be fixed.

I got this on my Venue 7 too, though the description of the upgrade screen was blank. But 305.3MB
The issue with the crashes has been rectified. The apps were on 4.3 were not really compatible with 4.4. I re-installed most of apps and now there's no more crashes.
If anyone has noticed, Dell seems to have updated the kernel from 3.4 branch to 3.10 branch.

yeah me too, i regret update to 4.4.2. It has to many bugs .. app crashing, rebooting, black screen. I want to go back to very stable 4.2 but don't know how ? The only good thing with 4.4.2 update is it seems a little smoother and faster. Hopefully, they release an update soon to fix this.
I was having a few issues and contacted Dell support. This is what the support person had me do and so far, my Venue has been pretty stable:
We are sorry about the situation, to rectify this issue please follow the steps below.
Please back up your system to Google as you'll be doing a complete wipe of the Venue 8.
Press and hold the power button until the tablet completely powers off
With AC power connected to the tablet, Press Volume Down and the Power Button (Volume Down + Power) at the same time.
Select RECOVERY
When you see the Android Robot Icon, Press Volume Up and the Power Key (Volume up + Power) at the same time
Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" then select "Yes - Delete all user data to factory reset"
After factory reset completes, select "reboot system now" to reboot system.
System should recover and boot into the current update version of Android OS
After this is done, please log into Google and download the apps/files that were backed up earlier.
Let me know if this helped.

Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] Sero 7 Pro (US) - AOSP 4.4.4_r2 DoPa v2.51. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Upgrade to V2.6
I "upgraded" to v2.6 beta1 from v2.51. With V2.51 with overclocking and Nexus7 spoof. After "upgrade" I had to reload GAPPS to get Playstore to work. As an aside, I also reinstalled the Nexus7 spoof. I also use SetCPU to manage overclocking. I am not sure that I have gained anything over v2.51 but am quite pleased with the performance.
Thanks dolorespark.

You got a unified kernel (no more separate installation) that uses less power than the previous overclocked version. At speeds up to 1.3ghz, it's the same as the previous standard kernel. The GPU's default speed has been upped to 448mhz from 416mhz at little cost; however, if you overclock it to 520mhz, it will use more power than previously. Also, if you use exFAT-formatted SD cards, you should find their performance is significantly improved.
BTW... you really shouldn't use the Nexus spoof from a previous version - other info in the file (build.prop) such as the version number may be incorrect.
Wiimote older and newer (motionplus) pairing correctly
Hello,
With the latest beta version of the rom I was able to successfully pair the older and the newer (motionplus) wiimote with the sero 7 pro. Had to use the Wii classic corded controller connected to the wiimote for game use. Was able to play vice city with the classic controller without having to change any of the button mappings.
Hope this helps.

Oh........ That would be sweet!
Nice work thnk you
got it running on UK version runs better than stock a lot smoother we were quite a few revisions behind the USA also installed the gmail 5apk it's running very sweet
SD Card
I have a question. Im Using a Hisense Sero 7 Pro and have Rooted it with sero7pro-philz6.58.0-dopa-v2.6, Installed sero7pro-aosp444-dopa-v2.6 ROM and pa_gapps-modular-micro-4.4.4-20141110-signed. But just like with the stock ROM I cannot move apps to the SDcard I installed in it, I have tried 3 different cards and all the same, since I am new to Android can someone help me figure this out?
Just wanted to say thanks!
We often take you guys for granted, and wanted to take a moment to say thanks so much for all your time and hard work on such a solid rom..best I have tried for the Sero7 Pro..everything works and no crashes!
..So Thanks.
Active speakers
Hello, I noticed something peculiar about my sero 7 pro and was wondering if anyone else has this problem.
When I hit the power button to turn ON the lockscreen (from sleep) and then tap it again to sleep, I hear a low continuous hum or hissing sound from the speakers (barely audible). It's not that big a deal since I can fully unlock to home screen and then put it to sleep (which stops active speakers).
I only bring this up because it's a noticeable drain on my battery when my tablet is on sleep. I'm using current dopa 2.6/philz touch. If it's just me, I'll probably backup and re-flash again sometime later.
not working
I flashed this rom but my gmail crashed. I did it again and again but it is still crashing.
Stock AOSP Rom
@dolorespark
You think you can release a version of this ROM (5.0 Lollipop) that is completely AOSP? I don't like having third party software such as SU, Xposed, GravityBox, etc pre-installed. Let alone not having selinux in enforcing mode. It would be nice to see another build for it that retains a completely original AOSP ROM (other than the tweaks in order to get it running on the Sero 7 Pro).
Buggy Overclocking
@dolorespark
It would seem in Lollipop Beta 1 that the overclocking module is easily bugged. After switching the clock frequencies a few times the settings bugs and ends up frozen to stock clocks.
Just a few things I've found on the newest beta 5.0
Hey dolorespark,
I've been using the AOSP 4.4.4 on my Sero 7 pro for some time now and loved it. Currently I'm waiting for my Moto G 2013 to get the official Android Lollipop from Motorola, but I saw that the love has already come to the Sero 7 thanks to you. Grats on that. I installed the newest beta on my Sero 7 Pro last night (AOSP 5.0.0_r7) and I have only noticed a few things of mention that you might not be aware of:
The wifi status page (link speed and what have you) is corrupted in portrait, but fine in landscape.
Periodically, the lock/power button hard resets the tablet instead of locking the screen.
The last thing I've noticed so far is that the notification bar will overtake the soft buttons at the bottom of the screen while in certain apps, one example being Google Play. If you swipe down the notification drawer, the bar at the top will clone itself over the buttons at the bottom while the drawer is open, and will disappear once the drawer is closed. Saving a screenshot of this occuring was impossible as the screenshot removed the bar and restored it after it had been saved.
The attachments are of the statusbar issue and the wifi page curruption. Nothing game breaking just a few things i've noticed playing around with this build.

Problems installing fastboot in Post #1 of main thread
I am trying to follow the instructions in the #1 post of this thread to install 4.4.2. on a stock Sero 7 Pro and cannot get this to work to install the philz.img file:
plug the USB cable from your PC into the tablet, then install the driver (open Device Manager, right click on "Other Devices->Fastboot", then select "Update Driver Software")
Click to collapse
When I open Device Manager in Win 7 Home Premium there is nothing like "Other Devices->Fastboot" listed. I tried Add Device from the Control Panel and it found nothing.
I already ran >step0-DoItAll.bat< from this thread and it completed everything sucessfully.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Steve Ahola
P.S. I have been running DOPA 2.20 on a different Sero 7 for several months now and it has been great! BTW I have tried several different CPU tuners and I think that the CPU tuner in 3C Toolbox (formerly Android Toolbox) seems to work the best as it controls all 4 processors independently. I use the premium version but the free version also has this module.
Is your Sero booted to fastboot mode?

After reading this, I tried changing speeds many, many times and never had any problems.
I don't know if this applies here, but in general, don't judge the ROM's performance based on your first bootup after installation. It has to do a tremendous amount of work to get set up, and not all of the loose ends get tied up until it has had a chance to shut down and restart. Do some minor config stuff on that first boot, then reboot before putting it through its paces.

I noticed that and thought it odd but it didn't really register with me as a bug. If it is, I'll have to leave it to Google to fix. Chances are that it will be many months before Google has all these little bits and pieces taken care of - and maybe as much as a year before Lollipop comes across as really solid and reliable.

If you already installed the drivers for ADB, then there's nothing else to be done - Fastboot uses the same driver. As someone else asked, are you in Fastboot mode? Disconnect any USB cable, hold down Volume-Up and Power, and wait for the word "Fastboot" to appear. Nothing further will appear on the screen - it's all done from the PC.

I'll have to look at this util to see what it offers, but I really doubt it can control each core independently. All four use the same clock, so if one is running at, say, 1.3ghz, all of the other cores that are online have to run at the same speed.
Thanks for your quick reply! I finally got ADB working by running your BAT file a second time. I still couldn't get Philz installed through ADB so I ended up installing CWM 6.0.4.5 from a different site and then followed your instructions to replace that with Philz. (CWM 6.0.4.5 aborted 1/2 way through install of your ROM which kinda freaked me out but Philz made everything good.
Many thanks not just for your excellent ROMs but also for the great instructions that you post here on XDA. I really like ROMs with the fewest bells and whistles which give the apps you are running more horsepower. BTW TKruzze's minimal GAapps files make your ROMs even more sleek. Its like my Sero tablet died and went to heaven!
Steve
P.S. As for 3C Toolbox (formerly Android Tuner) while all CPUs must be set to the same frequency as you said the app can put them offline independently as needed. I will post links to screenshots showing that. I've tried CPU Tuner, Set CPU, Juice Defender and ROM Toolbox Pro on 10 different Android tablets and I've gotten the best battery life when on or on standby with Android Tuner. (I leave some of them on just to test battery draw in standby mode and I have gotten over 18 days on one of them which would go dead after a day or two before I rooted it.)
The free version has ads that pop up when you are finished with the other modules but since the CPU tuner runs in the background there is no difference between the free and paid versions. But I really like their file explorer which does work better in the paid version.

Welp, doing it over on a different port and cable seems to have handled it.
Flashed it.
Might be placebo but it seems much smoother.
Also the recent bug is fixed and the toggles in the Account Sync have been changed.
Images flashed......"optimizing app 98 of 154" so first 5.1 boot should be soon.

I don't understand what the bug is. I never experienced it before, but I can try to replicate it in 5.1 if you explain what I am supposed to do clearly.

What I got is, sometimes when starting the N10 while charging, there is no sound at all, and I have to reboot the N10 without charging to get the sound back.
I tried with 5.1 and so far, 5-6 times, no bug, but as I said is only happening sometimes before...

It looks like 5.1 has fixed the audio bug. It has for me at least.

Using the default Launcher3, not really. The Google Launcher lags when pulling down the tray, and lags all other animations for that matter. It always has since 4.4, but I put up with it because I like the GEL. It doesn't lag anywhere else thankfully, so it's your call.
On March 10th I did a factory image update to 5.1 but did not wipe user data on both my Nexus 10 and 5.. At least for me, this is the best version of Lollipop I've experienced.
My Nexus 10 was more stable than my Nexus 5 on any 5.0.x release but it seems that all the issues I'd been experiencing are resolved. On 5.0.x my Nexus 5 experienced the memory leak causing UI slow downs, odd reboots, total freezes needing power cycles and frequent disconnects of both WiFi and my cell network.
Android 5.1.0 did break the K9 email reader but that was fixed this morning and Jota+ SMB support currently is not functioning. On the Nexus 10 my battery stats still does not update always showing 100% charge even when its been off the charger for hours. Its been like that for a long time including with KitKat.
I am rooted and use a number of app beta versions including Nova Launcher, GMD Gesture Control and GMD Auto Hide Software keys, Viper4Android and they all worked before and after the OS update. That is a little surprising as previous Lollipop 5.0.x updates had broken more apps when they were first released. For the first time in a long time MX Player Pro still worked after an OS upgrade.
This was what the Lollipop release should have been. I'm happy especially as my Nexus 5 is as reliable as it was with KitKat.
That's great. Smooth
My 5.02 Nexus got an OTA to 5.1 last night (I'm in the UK). Everything seems fine and I am really happy that I have a tablet that is still supported.

Hi.
I have narrowed it down to when i bring up google search with the swipe up gesture. Once on google search the screen becomes unresponsive. But a can reboot by pressing the power button and choosing 'reboot now'. I may try and reinstall it.
This only started happening with 5.1.

In my case I have that feature replaced by a more useful one: a handy launcher:
