An ad blocker that uses the hosts file. The hosts file contains a list of mappings between hostnames and IP addresses. When an app requests an ad, that request is directed to 127.0.0.1 which does nothing. There are options to run a web server to respond to blocked hostnames and to direct requests to the IP address of your choosing. You can download hosts files from the app but it is possible to use your own and to add certain sites to the white- and black-lists.
Rooted HTC 610
'Unknown sources' allowed in the settings.
Flashify
symlink_hosts_to_data.zip from this thread.
AdAway
Go ahead and download all the required apps, i.e. Flashify, the flashable zip and AdAway.
Launch Flashify and go to the 'Backup/Restore' tab and make backups of your current kernel and recovery. After that go to the 'Flash' tab and select 'Zip file', locate the 'symlink_hosts_to_data.zip' and select 'TWRP or Philz' under 'Your Recovery' and tap on 'Yup!'. If you have downloaded the zip to your internal storage you don't need to copy the file to a safe path. The phone will now automatically reboot and flash the zip, you don't need to do anything.
After you're rebooted install AdAway and launch it, when you are inside AdAway click the three dots in the top right corner and select 'Preferences', scroll down to 'Hosts File' and tap on 'Target hosts file' in the popup menu tap on '/data/data/hosts'.
Go back to the main tab and tap on 'Download files and apply ad blocking' and reboot. Enjoy your ad-free phone now!

Its great to see someone making and sharing guides for our phone. Thanks!
Also if you're looking to get rid of ads on YouTube there's an xposed mod called YouTube adaway. Just look for it under downloads in xposed installer then click the box under mods. You might also like "yourtube".

I found out that I needed to select "R/W" at the top of Root Explorer to delete that file. After I deleted it, I tried downloading the Adobe Flash again and it was giving me some error message. I rebooted the phone, tried to download again and was successful. I thought by downloading a newer file I would be able to watch youtube. I still can't. I guess I could start a new thread but will that adobe.fix file fix my youtube problem?

I followed the steps on that link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054
"To make it easier, all you need to do is download Adobe Flash Player 10.2.156.12 from market and replace the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libflashplayer.so which is AND 10,2,156,12 hex edited to look like WIN 99,9,999,99 for HULU.
1) Extract libflashplayer.so to sdcard
2) Copy libflashplayer.so from sdcard to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib using root explorer and make sure the permissions for libflashplayer.so is rwxr-xr-x or chmod 755 the file.
To get this working, make sure to set your browser User Agent string. With the stock Android browser and probably other browsers excluding the Dolphin browser, you might have to do this each time you run any flash based site including hulu.com or start the browser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686765
Others are strongly encouraged to make a .apk installer file to share with others as a contribution to the Android community. Unfortunately, I have no way to make the .apk file as I have tried existing .apk's and all they did was made it seem like Adobe Flash was not even installed on all sites including hulu.com."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686765
After doing all this, I can finally watch youtube and HULU*added bonus. However, when I load the youtube application on my android, it says," There was a problem while playing Touch to rety"
Hey guys, this is a Module I made for Xposed.
With this module you'll be able to stop the ad's provided by the google API (com.google.ads.AdView)
The app does not provide any UI except for the toast messages showing that a ad is being blocked
For example blocking a ad in Jewels Ninja

How well does this work with Chrome for Android beta'a "reduce data usage" setting? Since its function passes all unencrypted web traffic through Google's proxy which then compresses data before getting to your device... and Google's ad servers use those same servers, I didn't know if it lets me turn the chrome beta setting on without letting ads in?
When downloading from the Xposed installer it tells me the download name is incorrect.
Remember that this does only block the AdView API in apps that are using it, if apps are using something else to show Ad's then this will not work for that app

Indeed, I also use AdAway & it's not the only ad blocking app available but I consider it the best one. A big difference is AdAway requires root to continually modify the hosts file, whereas the Xposed Framework only requries root once upon installation to plant a system file. Xposed modules normally do not require root access. Some users do not want to stay rooted. I think ad blocking via Xposed is an excellent idea.

You'll have to provide more information than "it does not work." What doesn't work? Device? ROM? Please review how to install Xposed modules if this is your first one. That would be the same place you found the Xposed Framework.

I was thinking of putting a request for someone to write a module to do this but I thought it would be AdMob not AdSense (maybe?).
However, I renamed my hosts file, installed, activated and rebooted my phone, started up Angry Birds and up popped their adverts promoting AB Star Wars II. Never get that with the hosts file system.
Many thanks

Xposed is a framework for modules that can change the behavior of the system and apps without touching any APKs. That's great because it means that modules can work for different versions and even ROMs without any changes (as long as the original code was not changed too much). It's also easy to undo. As all changes are done in the memory, you just need to deactivate the module and reboot to get your original system back. There are many other advantages, but here is just one more: Multiple modules can do changes to the same part of the system or app. With modified APKs, you to decide for one. No way to combine them, unless the author builds multiple APKs with different combinations.
Rooted HTC 610
'Unknown sources' allowed in the settings.
BusyBox
Go to the Xposed website and download what version you want (I recommend Stable since your flashing Xposed) or download them from the official links down below.
Latest Stable - 2.6.1 - recommended
Latest Experimental - 2.7 experimental1
Install the Xposed Installer and launch it, after that open the 'Framework' tab and tap on the 'Install/Update' button, if it asks you for Superuser permissions, tap the Grant button. The phone should restart automatically, if not tap on the Soft Reboot button.
After rebooting open Xposed Installer again and open the Settings tab, tap on 'Installation mode' and select 'Recovery (write zip to SD card, flash manually)', then go back to the Framework tab and tap again on the 'Install/Update' button. A pop-up will appear onscreen and it'll ask you to Reboot into recovery, hit ok and remember the zip file location (/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files).
When you boot into recovery tap on the 'Install' button and go to Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files and select the Xposed-Installer-Recovery.zip. Flash it and it should say it was successful, only thing left is to tap on the 'Reboot System' button. Your phone should reboot and now you have Xposed installed on your HTC 610.

Hi everyone
I managed to root my android phone yesterday (I checked with 2 root-checker apps). Now I'm having trouble removing pre-installed apps like Twitter and Yellow Pages which I never use. I tried few uninstall apps, and after granting them permission from SuperUS, they perform an uninstall (some apps do it forcefully) and give a message that the apps were deleted. The apps are not removed from my application list but when I click on it to run, they give an error message. But when I restart my phone, those apps I deleted start working again as if nothing happened.
What I'm I doing wrong? My phone is HTC One M8, android.
Thank you for any help

Really strange. It's as if it wasn't uninstalled to begin with.

You need to remove read / write protection. You can do this most easily by flashing a modded kernel (boot.img) through fastboot. Alternatively, there's custom roms that have this already or you can mod a kernel module. There's a guide in the General section of your phone's forum. If you go that route, make sure that the module is compatible with the update you're on as the guide might be outdated.
