I was using the stock Email app, but since I updated to Lollipop I always got the "Exchange Services has stopped unexpectely". I got tired of waiting for a update/fix and decided to use a 3rd part mail app.
I have read through and testet different mail apps and ended up with two candidates:
Nine
Type Mail / Bluemail
I love both - specially for the features to combine mails with tasks, so I can be reminded of mails later etc. Only difference for me is that Nine is a paid app and Typemail is free.
However I need your help on the privacy! It seems some mail clients store mails temporary on their server, scan your mails and sell information to advertisers and maybe other stuff? Does anyone has insights on this and preferable regarding these apps?

You could try K-9 Mail, an open source mail client. It is available on Play Store as well as on F-Droid.

Thank you for reply. I tried K9, but I really don't like the older looking inbox view and it doesn't have the extra features such as reminder for later read of emails.

I am also afraid of email apps that rely on third party mail servers for the very reasons you have stated above. Were you able to find an android app that "fetches" and isn't associated with scanning or selling private info? I have heard good things about TypeApp and BlueMail - but there seems to be a third party email server involved, which I would really like to avoid. Also, I would prefer not having a unified mailbox, as I have five separate emails that I am constantly checking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Yahoo mail still exists???? Get Gmail if problem persists.
I had the same issue. Even when I switched to display 20 messages from any date, it would say no mail but also say x available on server. If I tapped that it would compose a new message. I haven't used the native mail app in a while so after that I said screw it and went back to K9.
yes
same problem and looking for fix, I'm going to try sending the yahoo text/yahoo mobile from my computer to my phone and see if that works

I am having same problem. My work uses yahoo mail to post overtime. I am losing cash so I hope they solve this quick. Yahoo is what company adopted for email so switching isn't an option.

You could always use the browser until you get it fixed. Probably something to do with the server ports. I'll dig around on the Hero boards and see if I can find the settings.

Seriously, K9 mail. It's free in the market. It is the best mail app I've seen. And when we finally get some sort of root, you can use titanium backup to backup your data and if you switch roms or whatever use that to restore your accounts and settings instantly.
It appears to be a known issue. I cannot get my Yahoo mail to open using the stock Email app either, I can send but I cannot receive. You can use the Yahoo Mail app, that works just fine and has a nice user interface, but me, personally I prefer using the regular Mail app for all three of my email addresses. My Yahoo address is only mainly for crap. If people think using Yahoo is archaic, I use ***gasp*** *OH NO’S*** my ISP email address which is where all my important stuff goes, banking stuff and so on, and the address I give out to close friends and family. Only reason I have a Gmail account is because you’re forced to in order to use an Android phone. Hopefully a fix for this problem is in the works.
I'm surprised anyone uses anything other than gmail with an android device for personal email.
Same problem here. Started happening just yesterday for me.
A Sprint rep told me that Yahoo blocked port 25 on their servers which is causing issues across all phone platforms. He also said that Yahoo wants to start charging people for Yahoo Plus in order for it to work, but I have found no confirmation of that. As a matter of fact, I found at least one Yahoo Plus user who is also having this problem using the native mail app from another HTC phone.
I have contacted Yahoo about the issue and will post their response here when I get it. However, it does seem to be a very widespread problem.
I will be waiting for an answer because I would rather use sense for emails then the app.
glad I wasn't the only one.
same problem here. I noticed I was not getting yahoo mails today. I use mine for business, and frankly don't ever want to use another email. Yahoo has been consistent, reliable for me for over 14 years.
I downloaded and installed the Enhanced Email app on the Amazon Appstore today.. special for today only for 4.99... seems like a good program..
I did not know about K9,, I could have saved the 4.99... but I think the Enhanced email app has a lot of features I haven't started using yet.
same issue with yahoo..
set up quickly.. but no emails coming in...
and yea been using Yahoo for years.. not going to switch because gmail is android friendly lol
i want a fix too, i use gmail, hotmail, and yahoo and want them all on my phone with stock software. depends on who i am giving my email to or sending to as to which account i use

I have the new HTC Evo 3D and Yahoo mail does not work with the
native HTC Mail app. Before this phone, I had the original HTC Evo and
Yahoo worked fine with the HTC app over the course of one year that I
had that phone. I upgraded to this phone last week, and for 5 days
Yahoo was working fine on the HTC mail app, but it stopped working
yesterday. Gmail and my work email still work through the HTC mail app
and my Yahoo mail is still working on my computer, so I believe the
problem is on Yahoo's end.
Please advise if this issue had already been reported and if it is being
worked on.

I use Gmail for personal use (friends/relatives) and Yahoo for commercial use ie. Amazon, Netflix, forum addresses, etc.. Keeps my Gmail absolutely spam free and when I get a Gmail I know it is really an email I want to see and have pushed to my 3VO.
I had the Yahoo set up problem too, just got my 3VO yesterday. Finally got it to work with the standard mail app. Turned out to be a security issue on my account, and after I changed my password to a more secure one, and after I signed on to the account from my 3VO browser, I was able to set it up using the manual mode (IMAP).
Remember to remove the "htc." from the incoming and outgoing server addresses though.
I have been searching and cannot find a solution to this. Can Themer give a unread mail count for mail accounts other than just the gmail account?
Dont think so sadly =(

Unfortunately not, we are working on this feature though. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Ditto on this request, but I have another question that's similar (same?)... I have Gmail and Corporate email accounts I have to monitor. It seems just about every theme has just one email, one sms, and so on. I love the themes and the application overall, but the rigidity of icon placements and selections in the themes makes it hard to replace my stocker for work use.
Is there an ETA for when this will work? I don't use gmail and yet, I'm forced to see "0" for email. Also, shouldn't have to be logged in just to use a theming program. Let me go online to "see" new themes but requiring that I'm online is a waste of bandwidth and battery.

the application is great, but I only use that email exchange, you have a date for a version that would display the number of e-mail ?
If you associate your other accounts with gmail though, shouldn't this solve the issue partly ?

Hi,
We can't give an exact ETA, but it won't be anytime soon. The amount of resources required to integrate accounts other than Gmail would require a large of time from the developers which would put everything on hold - which is something we just can't afford at this moment in time. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Regarding the login box, this is for security reasons on our side, in the event that someone breaches our servers.
Thanks for the hard work, can't wait for other email accounts to be integrated :good:
Just a general question, or just a point out. Why would google put that e-mail app in Lollipop, when gmail can take care of all your accounts, another thing the email app is not even usable when you open it. It'll just redirect you to the Gmail app. Just weird Google would do that.
Gmail handles all email accounts now. Just slide out the side menu, and the accounts will appear by the top if you linked them.

Actually, gmail *does not actually* handle anything at all besides gmail itself.
It is actually opening activities from the regular email application.
If you disable gmail, you will find that the functionality of email increases.
Either way, they both suck badly. I suggest k9mail and disabling both of email/gmail.
Gmail does actually handle exchange and hotmail .... at least for me.
I deleted Touchdown.
Wish Inbox was updated to handle more than just Gmail.

I compose email, it sends email.
Why be such a " ", I open Gmail it works why should I care less how?
Why I ever want to disable Gmail it works it provides my inboxs, calendars, and address books from every email account I own.
How it does it I really do not care.
I have to have Gmail why would I be stupid and install something else if Gmail does the job.
Did you read my post. (I own Touchdown found it was not needed and deleted it)

Give up. You are incorrect and parroting garbage being spouted by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
In fact, how about you try this TO PROVE ME WRONG:
DELETE the following trees;
/system/app/PrebuiltEmailGoogle
/system/app/PrebuiltExchangeGoogle
But LEAVE
/system/app/PrebuiltGmail and whatever update may be installed in /data/app
Observe how suddenly "gmail" can no longer use IMAP, POP3, SMTP, or exchange.
Hmm, I wonder why that would be, if these were actually functions of gmail.
Like I said, I'm truly sorry for you, that you were dropped on your head as a child.
Why no other mail??
Apart altogether from the frankly appalling suggestions (which should warrent a permanent ban, I have a relative who was dropped when small) why (apart from paranoia and greed) does Lolli not have an option to pick up the former mail app; I don't like gmail and don't like learning a new one.

I don't know if it's greed as much as survival. I'm the same way where I prefer not to use the gmail app and YouTube app or be logged into my browser and have google search everything I'm doing. What got me excited about gmail when it first came out was it offered free pop3 with basically unlimited storage for free. Then they offered imap which was way better. All these years since gmail came out I only logged in to the actual gmail site or app very rarely, mostly just because it's better at searching for old emails. Realistically though, as awesome as AOSP and Nexus devices are, it doesnt do them any good to offer a general mail client that pushes people away from the gmail ads. Makes more sense for them to try and get us Nexus people excited about Inbox even if a lot of us are old school curmudgeons. Very few people these days use stand alone email clients outside of the office. Much more people likely use their own personal domain email using gmail as the mail client as weird as that is to us.

My point, exactly.
I don't want or like to be pushed about by Google, call me curmudgeonly, but.....
Hi I need a good email client because ever since I updated to marshmallow gmail doesn't sync automatically anymore and yes I've tried everything from deleting and reinstalling gmail to clearing it's data, clearing play services and framework data, removing all the accounts and re-adding them and doing a factory reset but nothing works it'll work for a little while but then stops again after about an hour also went on the gmail forum and asked there and saw dozens of other people having the same problem with no luck on getting a solution
If anyone had any other ideas besides switching to a different email client it would be greatly appreciated as I'm accustomed to the gmail app I also tried inbox and I still don't get notified when an email comes in. It's really frustrating as I rely on receiving email notifications promptly for work and checking my email every fifteen minutes to see is getting old real quick. I tried blue mail but don't care for it
Thanks Rob

CloudMagic is an awfully slick solution for e-mail while mobile, provided you can tolerate the delegation of retrieving your e-mails to their servers in the cloud and you don't need any fancy folder management or message composition. My experience has been quicker handling of e-mails and better battery life too since you're set free from the ugly cycle of push notifications.
k-9
K-9 Mail is IMHO the best Android Mail Client out there for IMAP & POP3. Been using it for many years. Open source, still under development, very feature rich and customize-able.

Hello,
I wanted to know which email App you use. Because the original one I don't like it and Gmail on quick app is very awful :/
So if you can answer to this it would be great!
I use Gmail. Yeah Gookill is just evil.
Use a cloud based only app like Gmail.
That eliminates malware completely unless you chose to download it.
Gmail is excellent with spam and I have never gotten malware through it except if not mindful of downloaded files.
My Yahoo email got locally wifi hacked once, I don't trust it's encryption now.
Outlook is malware central
Yahoo mail, with Gmail and Yahoo account.
I have no notifications, but I check it anyway, several times a day.
Aquamail, the best.
Nine -> Just get it from Petal Search. If you paid for it on playstore you can add your subscription on the Huawei without issue, you just need to paste the order or something in the app.

Hi, I've been using Spark, I tried also BlueMail but didn't like it at all, what made me convince about Spark is that it syncs also your gmail folders, so everything keeps as if you were using gmail app, also your signatures, contacts an many more features that makes me forget about gmail native app.
It's available in app gallery, good luck!
Another cool app imo -> "Re:Work". https://rework.so/
I was using "Nine" previously so this is their new app and even had promotion for "Nine" users.
It's not available in the app gallery but it can be downloaded.
