Went ahead and made a custom boot animation for my Wiko Rainbow 4G.
It works perfectly.
I have one question though... There is by default no boot sound on that phone,is it somehow possible to add one?

Yes u can use any bootanimation which has boot sound already.... Open that zip.... And edit it according to need...easy way....
Hope this helps.
Do you maybe have a link to one ?
EDIT:
By the way,if i need to move some stuff (ex: the mp3 sound) to the system/media folder then i'm screwed because i can't move any file with root explorer to that folder : /
(Yes i have root and already tried to install an SD Card Xposed module, but it still doesnt work)
Use es explorer and enable root explorer and click on the button /option there u find options one of them is mount r/w click on it and set root or system to write mode... DONE..
Xperia z lollipop bootanimation has sound..search it...
If u not find ask me i will upload it later...
Nope,can't find that boot animation.

For anyone wondering how to replace your bootanimation, just mount your system partition either with Clockwork Recovery or root explorer and push a bootanimation.zip to /system/customize/resource/TMUS_bootanimation.zip
Here are a couple you can use:
My Evo 4g Bootanimation Thread - Sorry some say Evo 4g.
SamJamz BootAnimation Thread
Basically any bootanimation from a phone that is 480x800 should fit just fine.

Do you push the file while in recovery mode? Kinda confused about that part.
Edit: Got it, yep, you have to be in recovery to accomplish this.
Can this be done on non rooted phones? I know it was done on the nexus

Our phones are a little bit different... our bootanimation is located at system/customize/resource and renamed bootanimation.zip to TMUS_bootanimation.zip I did all this thru root explorer no adb required!
just incase, I also copied the original file I was replacing to my sdcard (if ever I wanted to go back)
Hope this helps
Here's one of my favs, R2d2 boot animation. It's already named correctly, just use root explorer, and make sure the permission is right. Ahh, can't upload zip from the app, I will when I get to my cpu
Thanks for this!
I now have a sweet Android (Cyanogen theme - in prep for CM release ) boot animation in place of the lame stock "my" scribble.
Now all I'd like to do for boot is change the stock splash screen. I've found one to use, but the instructions for applying are for the Evo and not sure I want to risk jacking something up if it's not right. It states to use fastboot to flash the splash screen onto the phone, replacing the stock. To those who know - does that sound right? Where is the stock splash located so I can back it up to my sdcard first?
Any pointers appreciated!
it looks like it u have to be permarooted for the changes to stick :-\
can anyone else confirm??

I am trying to paste the renamed zip file into the folder but I keep getting the error when using root explorer "you cannot paste here because the file system is read only"
I am full rooted. What am I doing wrong?
***EDIT*** Nevermind, I got it to work, I forgot to click mount up top. DOH!

Maybe I'm stupid, but I couldn't get system to mount through Clockwork, so just copied the zip to my sd card and replaced the stock file using Root Explorer.
Worked fine, though I backed up the stock one first.

I am also in root explorer and went thru the needed folders till I got to bootanimation folder. How do you paste the renamed animation into that folder? (don't want to screw it up) copy from my sd card and paste it into the folder? Do i paste it into the folder and then tap on (mount rw)? Or do I tap on (mount rw) then hit paste. Rookie worried I might screw it up if do it wrong.
Thanks,
Vinny
I simply modified this one with mspaint and updated it like this :
- 2010 => 2011
- 800 mhz => 1000 mhz
- Android 2.1 => Android 2.2
How to install :
You need a rooted phone.
You need Super Manager (availaible on market for free).
Using wifi/usb put bootanimation.zip where you want on the sdcard, then cut this file with Super Manager and paste it in /system/media
Reboot your phone and enjoy.
Thanks! I'll try it
It's OK, thanks!
nice thanks
Applied. This one is quite amusing

nope..
you just need to put and overwrite that .zip file in the /system/media folder.
use that app in the 1st post to do it (because you need root - and RW - privileges).
AWESOME!!!!!

Hey, stop crossposting your "not working" posts! If you describe your problem a bit more detailed, we could probably help. But not in case you mentioned above
Wondering if there is way to change the Cm7 boot animation to some different. Have one downloaded and tried copy it to the system/media location where the original is located but wouldn't allow rename or move.

did you set your file manager to r/w? its probably r/o right now.
if you dont know how to set it, use root explorer (which gives you an option at the top that allows you to toggle between the two)
thanks now if i can only figure out how to get sound to work with it

hey there,
i took the file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297084, converted the resolution of the images and adapted the desc.txt and packed it again.
i'm using the ROM Devil_2.3.7 and just put it to /data/local/ using adb, it works without problems for me.
i hope you like my first post in this forum

The way I did it was (NOTE:Only applies to ROM's based off CM7.1 as far as I know) place the bootanimation.zip file onto SD Card. Download a Root File Explorer like Root Browser from Google Play. Navigate to the file on the SD Card and copy it. Now navigate to /system/media and backup(if you want) the existing bootanimation.zip or you can go straight ahead and just delete it. Now paste the bootanimation.zip you copied from the SD Card and you should be all good to go
When I'm able to(because I'm still new here) I hope to write up a proper guide on how to do this

On rooted S-ON legends you can do it only in recovery mode with adb and r4-legend-recovery tools.
boot into recovery mode, after launching recovery-windows.bat (if you use windows of course) from r4-legend mount /system then push the bootanimation.zip into /system/media
I'm trying to apply this animation but I can't remove/copy for back up the old one.
I have root browser and superuser gives it root rights but I cant modify permission to the file or move it.
Any suggestion?
