if I decide to unlock the bootloader and root my at&t m9, will it change the bootloader status to locked instead of relocked? Also im guessing if it did it would require me getting s-off with sunshine? Was thinking about rooting to remove the at&t bloat but want to make sure I can go back to completely stock if I need to.

If you unlock your bootloader it will say 'Unlocked' if you decide to go back to stock it will say 'Relocked' unless you have s-off then you can follow the instructions below and it will say 'Locked'

Is it possible to get temp root only in such a way it doesn't mark the bootloader as TAMPERED?
For what it's worth, there is only a handful of reasons I would ever need root access and quite honestly I don't see the need to be rooted 100% of the time.
However, I don't feel the need to have to unlock the entire bootloader from HTC Dev just to install an APK or two.
Thanks for any pointers!

You only need to unlock the bootloader if you want to flash custom roms and such. If you just want root access for apps just use zedomax's root and dont unlock the bootloader. You only get the tampered messages if you unlock the bootloader.

Actually that's wrong. They're two different things. If you root, it'll show tampered, whether unlocked or not. Locking or unlocking will not effect tampered status. Any root will show tampered. It goes away if you use RUU.
To answer the question asked, no. At the current time it is not possible to root without tampered bootloader

Yea i didnt word it very well. I assumed the reason the op was asking is so he could get back completely to stock if need be. If he only roots and then runs the ruu he would be back to stock. Thanks for clearing it up.
Thanks for the info - I didn't understand the mechanism that triggers the bootloader to show tampered.
Ultimately, I was looking into determining whether or not ICS encrypted the mail (not gmail) database, regardless of the device itself being encrypted or not.
i want to send my phone back to handtec to replace my phone with new one that work fine with no issues like my phone...
and my phone is rooted and unlocked....
there is any easy or noob way to make it fully stock agin?

First you have to use the all in one toolkit to relock your bootloader, then you can run the ruu. Just FYI at the top of Hboot it will now say relocked, not locked. In other words HTC will know you tampered with it.
yes, but a relocked bootloader has nothing to do with warranty (in europe)...
I'm trying to get back to full stock (which I am) but on my bootloader it says relocked and I want to get back to locked so I can use my JUMP thing from T-mobile. Any tips on what i should do?

Need more info:
What firmware are you on? Are you S-Off? If you are S-Off, what did you use to achieve it?
The easiest way, assuming you want 4.3 fully stock is to use the RUU that tmobile provides.
Ok, i am on ATT 4.4.2 with unlocked bootloader/S-OFF/Rooted/TWRP
i am still on stock rom, if i do the update, will my phone still be S-OFF (firewatered) and will i be able to unlock the bootloader?
Youll need stock recovery regardless to accept an OTA,unlocked and s-off is fine,to be safe I would unroot before taking any OTA, some say its not necessary but I dont leave things up to chance

Hi I basically want to trade in my HTC desire 610 (EU addition) at CEX.
It is currently S-ON, deodexed & modified stock rom with JMZ kernel.
I want to be able to unroot and relock bootloader without signs of tampering as I will get less for it if they find it has been rooted.
I am fine to flash an odexed stock rom (im pretty sure there is one in the dev thread), but does anyone know how to get the bootloader back to its original state, when I have tried with other phones it always says "re-locked" instead of locked and is obvious it has been tampered with.
Any ideas?

You can do "fastboot oem lock" to re-lock the bootloader. This will change it from saying "unlocked" to "Locked". However it will still say "Tampered" above it and there is no way to get rid of that once it has been unlocked.
