Ya, I got this on my SGP611 like 3 days ago. Ended up taking the plunge and doing the upgrade (redid everything from scratch). Not sure what changed, whatever it is it's minor (still 5.0.2 based). It's rootable, at least via THIS method.

It won't let you update when rooted with a different recovery. It'll fail when it says validating download.
I just got mine a couple weeks ago, and moved right after I got it, so other than root and recovery I hadn't done much of anything yet..

Baseband is the modem version, IMEI is the unique identifier that registers you on the network. So I doubt the phone or data will work without those. Are you rooted?
I would do a full backup, and then try a repair in pc companion then post back.
I've seen someone else with a similar issue who's had to send it back to Sony for repairs as couldn't find a fix, UK that's the worst case scenario, start with a repair.

Then try flashing rom, there's a depository thread somewhere. Doesn't really matter, but try flashing one in your region.
When you say repair didn't work, did the process complete?

You don't need to be rooted to flash stock ROM and don't need to unlock bootloader either. I would suggest flashing 532 first and seeing how it is.

Yes, but we already knew that. Sony said that 4.4 for the Z1 and ZU is scheduled to be released in January/February, so this isn't news.

I've got an interesting question. Once Kitkat has been officially released by Sony, would obtaining root be fairly easy?
Or would it be a mission like on current 4.3 firmwares where we have to downgrade, root, flash, etc?
I'm still on 4.2 and will not bother upgrading until Kitkat has been released and obtaining root is done by a one click procedure.
If anything it'll be harder to root
And you would more then likely have to downgrade etc

What Jack said
There is a slight conflict here, you want an easy root path, but you want a secure phone that no one can hijack. If there is a one click root tool then there can just as easily be a 'no click' root exploit that you dont even know has been un on your phone and the writer/hacker now has full control of your phone - see the problem?
The way Sony wants us to do it (and the best security model for us and them) is to unlock the bootloader and install recovery to flash our phones - this is what we do now except we do the extra steps of running a root exploit so we can latter restore our bootloader/TA to a factory state

I understand. What you said makes sense. I previously used Vroot to root previously like most others but after hearing rumours that were apparently true, I no longer used it. As you mentioned they may be stealing our imei numbers and taking control over our phones violating our privacy...
Since Kitkat 4.4 is around the corner, I won't bother updating to 290 Firmware. Who knows, we may need to downgrade and flash to root Kitkat.
As long as we have an unlocked bootloader root is easy
hmmm.i remembered that when the nexus 5 came in..they got it rooted fast.since the software securities of 4.4 is almost(if not the same) with 4.3..but who am i to say..im just a simple guy passing through... but hey, we already have a working kitkat rom for ZU..so why wait? *smiling

You're the second swede in here that haven't received 4.3, and since both Norway and Denmark received it a month ago, I'll conclude that Sony hates Sweden Sony and Ericsson did break up after all, so I guess Sony doesn't want to go back there and risk bumping into Ericsson. Awkward.
I assume you've checked PCC for the update, and that you haven't changed your CDA to a country that haven't received the update (a mistake I did).

I have not changed anything, it's all stock. Since I have a Mac, there is no PCC, only Sony Bridge for Mac. But no, no update there.. :S
I just kicked my ZU back into .290 and PCC and Update Centre both say I'm upto date - no 14.2.A.1.136 update.
Can anyone else check or have I broken my install. two days ago the same nandroid was saying there was the .136 update ready to be DL'd

I know. Been looking for the update daily for about a week now. Nothing.
I dont really mind though.......I have an occasional wifi drop out on 290 but nothing else serious. Also with my ZU I have held back on root/unlocking bootloader just because............it kinda does everything well without root! I remember a video by Adrian that eventually android would get to such a stage that root wouldn't be needed anymore (apart from customization). Maybe we are seeing the first step of that with sonys firmware? Obviously touchwiz, sense etc are different but Sony is pretty close to stock.

Mine doesn't have the update yet ? I just checked still says no new updates :/ Can I download it to my pc and flash it via computer ?
You'd have to download the ota package to the root of storage, then install via stock recovery, not via computer or custom recovery

i'm assuming you OTA'd to lollipop. if you're on any kitkat build there are root methods for all builds and you can downgrade to nc5 (easiest method imo)

Exactly. This device has been rooted for ages. The first rule of obtaining/retaining root: NEVER OTA
Devs are not inclined to find exploits for every single update that comes out (especially when the updates are usually to patch the exploits previously used). It's usually just the first or maybe a handful of releases (if you're lucky) that get root.
