I have very poor signal strength when on LTE/WCDMA/GSM mode.
I am based in the UK on Vodafone. This isn't a carrier issue as switching the same SIM into my old SGS4 gives a full signal when on LTE/WCDMA.
The only solution is to manually set to GSM only mode when on wifi for good signal strength and call quality and back to LTE when away from wifi when data speed is important (at the expense of signal/call quality) .
Anyone else experiencing this?
I hope this can be fixed via OTA update.
i'm on vodafone uk as well and recently had the issue of not receiving calls/text while on wifi. its intermittent so really hard to know when it's happening.
i've just updated to 5.1.1 now and will see if the problem persists. hopefully not!!!

Which S6 edge model / CSC are you?
was it downloaded or OTA ?
Cheers.
128gb uk model. i flashed XEU as it gets faster updates.... and looks like i was right lol it was an ota update.
i tried calling and it seems to be coming through right now but as it was intermittent...i can't say if fixed for sure or not.

Interesting, I have the 64gb model - but can't find any firmware > 5.0.2 for any CSC (BTU, XEU ...)
Could you post a link ?
Cheers
i couldn't find a link anywhere either.
it was ota update, so right now only way as far as i can see is if you flash the 5.02 XEU and get the ota update from there. or wait till the firmware appears on samfirmware etc... on samfirmware they said there was an update in france ...nothing about uk.

Great - thanks for the share ...
Out of interest, what was your CSC before the XEU 5.0.2 flash? the image shows XEU but I wonder if that was changed by the flash process for all 3 (Original / Firmware & Active CSCs)
Cheers.
Originally on o2. But i unlocked and flashed xeu..the other option was btu...but i know from previous that btu is the last to update.
It was showing as o2/xeu as active csc before this update. Now its just xeu.

I have a Galaxy S6 Edge and my reception is also horrible for cell and for wifi. Mine was purchased unlocked in Hong Kong. Tried it in numerous countries with various carriers. Easy to tell that it is not a carrier problem but a horrible cell problem as this smartphone has the worst reception compared to all the smartphones I had owned previous to this one. Only thing this smartphone excels in is the screen quality and camera quality but battery life, cell signal and wifi reception are beyond horrible. Freakin Samsung should have put a larger battery in it,allowed a little more battery consumption to power the Qualcomm chipset inside for better reception and signal.
I am having precisely the same problem as described in comment 1 which is poor signal reception when in LTE mode. So my temporary fix is GSM mode with wifi. I think this has really been the case since the 5.1.1 update but not entirely sure of that fact.
I am on Vodafone UK but using the SM-920FD model which is the Pakistan and Phillipines handset in DUOS which is the reason I bought it. It works on all the same bands as the model sold by Vodafone Uk.
I am not a developer ... Can anyone explain to me a solution if they have found one? Should I downgrade the software update ? Not sure how to do that. Also strangely my phone is now telling me it is a model 920F without the D, could it be that Vodafone pushed an update onto my phone that was not compatible with it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Simple thing to improve signal quality is....change network. Vodafone are total and utter rubbish. I have changed network and all problems gone.

Well I have a Samsung Note on Straight talk and I am only getting EDGE network its a AT&T Sims for Straight talk not the tmobile. My wife has a LG Thrill and its running Straight talk and always has H+ 3 to 4 bars all day. I took the Sims card out of the Samsung note and put it in the LG Thrill and got H+ with no problems. I did drive around town and got 4g anywhere from 2-4 bars but when I got home it went back to EDGE!! I notice in some areas was on EDGE when it should been on H+. I have tried different apns and get the same results. Is there any service code I should be looking at??? If so how do I do that? Where else should I be looking?? Thanks Bud-sc
Straight Talk uses AT&T network so you should get 3G. I also read about a fix to get 4G I'd you're in a 4G area.
But you said you tried several APN's and nothing improved. What modem are you using (settings>about phone>base and)?
Also, check this setting:

Packet Data checked.
You probably used more than 2GB of data in a month or used more than 100MB/day. Your probably being throttled by ST. Might give them a call and if my assumption is correct, act innocent.
Good point. Even the $45 unlimited plan gets throttled at 2 gigs. But it sounds like he never got 3/4G yet.
Thread about throttling and solution:

All go on everything and I only had this new Sims card for 3 days so using to data might out. OK my baseband is T989UVKL1 and here is my zip code 29582. Thanks Bud-sc
That looks like the stock modem. Did you root? I'm guessing yes because you said you changed your APN.
If I were you I would flash the UCLE5 modem from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27863509
Why? It sounds like a reception or antenna problem. So changing modems could improve your reception.
But you need CWM recovery installed to do that.
No the phone is not rooted.I just only change the apn that Straight talk give me then after that I tried a few other apn settings to see if I get different results but no luck yet.I am not going to give up yet but this phone is suppose to get ics this July so maybe then the new fireware might make things better. I hope so. Thanks Bud-sc
Is your phone the at&t or international version? Did you unlock the phone to put in the ST sim card?
ICS is out now. The modem I suggest is the current ics modem.

That's your problem right there sir. Thats a Tmobile Baseband. All you need to do is dial *#2263# and select GSM Bands then select all...and bam you should have 4G or H+ in no time.
another solution is to flash any AT&T Baseband/Radio. But that would require flashing CWM thru ODIN. But no root required for that.
Its the att and yes its unlocked. I checked the update last night nothing yet. Is there away to check the update with out the time limit?? Is there a stock firmware on Samsung web site for At&t??? Thanks Budsc

dude did you see my reply? The T989 Baseband is specific to the Tmobile's Galaxy S2.
And the stock AT&T Radio can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506212
Just flash thru ODIN.
If your phone has at&t logo but has a T-Mobile modem (as the baseband suggests) someone has already flashed a different modem.
Do you know about CWM or Odin? In other words, what is your skill level for solving this problem?
My skill on something like this little afraid too be truthful. Thanks Bud-sc
OK what do I need to download to my computer and how do I do this??MY phone does not or does it need to be rooted???
try disabling mobile data?
Does your phone have the AT&T logo at the top?
You don't need root access to flash a modem.
Are you chatting with me from your phone or a PC? Why? Because you will have to perform the next steps from a PC.

First things of, download drivers for your phone. Enable USB debugging in settings. Then download latest ODIN (i believe its v1.85 or something), then download the http://m-s-j.net/dagnarf/phone-odin-att-stock-radio.tar.

Ok first you have give it time between posts...asking for assistance or info...you have give it time to get your issue's addressed...XDA is a world wide community...
have you taken it to your carrier to see if they can put in on the network,
you prob have to get you imei set with the carrier what carrier are you using, say verizon on your profile is this what you are using?
I had to do this with my carrier on a different phone, call them or go by the carrier store...
you said when you unlock it, it wont connect to att...is an att note...why you unlock it for an att sim? or am i not reading it right?
Thanks for the reply... I have spent so much time looking for a solution online and nothing... well I unlocked it for t-mobile first and got network unlock successful. Then that stupid circle stayed and never gave me signal. Now I dont care what carrier its on I just want it working but not even its original carrier will work (ATT). I called cellunlocker.net and they said to call att. i called att and they blew me off as well. I called att and they said its not unlockable?? what the heck does that mean?? its a gsm phone!! So now im stuck with no signal ever since i entered the unlock code.

I was having same issues my apn came up with cingular. Ive never had them so im playing with those settings now...we will see if this helps

Cingular APN is OK. But you need to call at&t store and ask them to reprovision your sim so you can use LTE/4g network (if it's available).
When they change that (it doesn't change your rate plan) your APN will change to PTA.

When you unlock its a permanent change in your phone that let's you use any GSM carrier sim card.
You have to flash a modem compatible with the network. That is your base and number. For at&t the current modem is ULCF5, and its good for all North America, except T-Mobile, Wind(Canada).

I'm thinking of buying this phone and dumping a blackberry...but I rely on WfiCalling for my phone signal.
I have read one thread related to Orange where the guys couldn't get it going.
Anybody hear of this function working on GS3??
I'm on tmobile in the USA and there is no wifi calling options in my menus like USA tmobile branded phones usually have (not that i've found anyone with a US GS3 to see if they have it) so my opinion thus far is there is no wifi calling option on the i9300 used in the US on tmobile.

Hint" Posted by a t989"? You obviously have a I9300 which doesn't have wifi calling (t-mobile USA one)
You may be referring to Internet calling, which you use a sip to make calls or receive calls. I don't think any UK version has wifi calling, correct me if im wrong.
Edit: I was wrong, Orange has a feature calling Signal Boost.
www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?c=OUKService&pagename=OUKPersonal&cid=1306843176798
UMA/ Signal boost are the same basically
One is hardware based and can carry the call from wifi to cell (UMA) the other cannot do the hand over and is software based (WIFI CALLING)
However only ONE carrier per country is allowed to have it. as I know the they are:
T-Mobile USA
ORANGE UK
Orange FR
Is that USA T-mobile S3 Hacked to allow wifi calling?

I am trying to get a Tinji i9300-GT to have service on T-Mobile USA. From what I have read and found in the EngineerMode my phone only gets 850 MHz GSM signal, which I am fine with. On Tmobile, an 850 MHz signal is 2g, and turns out that I am using other company’s towers at this signal. I am assuming that is why I do not have signal. Could someone please help me to clarify if this is a modem/band issue, Chinese phone issue, whatever the case may be. I have no signal, no service, my sim card is recognized by the phone, I have tried numerous rom versions, and I am on my last hope of a 2 week battle with this phone.

First, that phone is not a real GSIII. With that out of the way, T-Mobile requires 1700Mhz for 3G, which your phone does not have. If the info on Alibaba is correct, your phone should support 2100Mhz, which is what AT&T operates on. Even my real GT-I9300 does not work on T-Mobile USA for high speed data.
100% agree as per previous posts you do not have A Samsung SGS3 .
Details given are not for a Samsung phone .
This is a MediaTek phone

Tinji i9300 don't support T-mobile or any US Carrier,so get a refund or ask your seller to send which supports
I think the carrier unlocked Snapdragon Note8 is the best option for people in the USA, more specifically people using CDMA carriers.
From what I undersand you can use your hotspot as a normal feature without any additional fees, without root.
No bloatware is installed including carrier specific apps, eg. Verizon Voicemail. I don't know if the missing bloatware will be available to download from the Playstore.
You lose Wi-Fi calling features because it has it's own firmware, with the exception of T-Mobile.
From what I understand you can ODIN your carriers firmware to gain all the missing carrier specific features and bloat but you will probably lose the free hotspot. I don't know if you can go back to the unlocked firmware after that.
If I'm missing anything or have any errors please comment and let me know! :highfive:
ALSO NO ROOT
which makes it useless to me

Not actually true on T-Mobile: Wi-Fi Calling works on T-Mobile with the unlocked firmware. Apparently other carriers are more strict and limit it to their specific firmwares though.

I just woke up from the nightmare of the unlocked version, which I had dreamed of for years. Even though I called Samsung and Verizon in advance, they both assured me wifi calling would work. It did NOT, and Samsung tech told me just yesterday they had just become aware of that shortcoming, and it only pertains to Verizon customers. Works on all other carriers. In addition, no Verizon visual voicemail, although there are other, less desirable options in the Playstore. However, there was no notification received if I had any incoming voicemail messages. It just added up to too many things, and I had to compromise my firm stand on an unlocked phone. Too many cons to offset the pros. People on other networks than Verizon might not mind, or those not requiring wifi calling. Sent phone back and will have to get Verizon version. Still getting over the N7 loss. Samsung, I love you less and less.
I feel like this is the first time I've seen Verizon being supported on an unlocked version in the USA. But it probably started with the S8.
There are a pretty good amount of bugs to be "compatible with Verizon Wireless".

You can still flash the Verizon firmware and it is as if you bought the Verizon version....even get OTA updates from Verizon...
I was thinking to flash unlocked firmware to my t-mo branded phone, but I don't see much T-mo bloatware and some can be disabled anyway. Is there any chance somebody could take a screen shot of system applications on unlocked phone for comparison? Maybe some things are hiding under obscure names.
I hope we are slowly moving towards one hardware, one firmware for all carriers with carrier specific programs downloaded after purchase as a voluntary update maybe? Already ,as it is, we can cross flash firmware from all carriers, what we should be able to do is to just flash carrier specific modem and few carrier feature programs and be done, without touching base firmware at all.
I've got everything working on mine besides VVM & WiFi Calling; wish I could have my cake & eat it too!
