[Q] Can Phones Multitask While Ringing? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A lot of phones force you to either reject or accept a call while ringing
but lets say maybe sometimes (eg cold callers) I want to keep the phone ringing and still be able to perform normal operations like browsing or texting or look at pictures
Is there a way to let the phone ring in the background without accepting/rejecting, and still be able to perform daily task on the phone?
P.S. I used a lumia 1020 and an xperia x2, they dont seem to be able to do that.

Ringtone Delay

If I use one of the default ringtones, when someone rings they hear one and a half rings before my ringtone starts playing. If I use a custom mp3 ringtone then the person hears 3 rings before my ringtone is played!!!!! I tried using .wav files but they also gave a delay of one and a half rings.
In all cases the phone starts to flash and light up almost immediately within the first ring so its just the dialer and/or ringtone taking time to initialise.
I wanted to see if this is just me or if anyone else was having same problem since I've searched and previous android devices didn't have any problems.
Note: I had the exact same (if not similar) ring delay on my diamond but I fixed that by using wav files and the wm5 fix (it was also solved completely in custom roms). Is there a similar way to fix/minimise the delay on the hero?
In WinMo, there is a RegEdit to resolve this so you can change the delay.
Is there nothing in options? Like it might be set to vibrate first then ring?
I've just double checked the setting options but there is nothing about the order of ringing/vibration. I also killed touchflo using taskmanager (couldn't find another way to disable it) to see if it would make a difference but the delay was still the same.
I was going to try and transfer my ringtones to the phone memory itself...but the file manager just says 'couldn't be moved'.
Am I the only one with the delay?...if so it could be something I've installed then....
Any solution for this? I have the same behaviour on my hero. It flashes, then vibrates, then ringstone. Can this behaviour be modified? I want it to flash, vibrate and ringtone all at once from the very beginning.
Yeh I'm having the same issue aswell, there no way of setting the order.
sounds like it needs to load the resources before it can play the ring tone..
just like diamond1.. it lags when ppl call..
:/
I just tried my hero, no call lag at all.

Hmmmm, is your hero branded? Also, what format are your ringtones in?
I doubt it, but could it be a network thing? I'm on Orange uk...what network is everyone else on?
Unbranded from handtec, use "old style" ringtone

I only get the delay when I'm using custom ringtones.
i have a t-mobile g2 and there is a big delay in a person calling me before the screen wakes up and i can see who it is
the light on the scroll ball comes on, but the vibrate and ringing doesn't start until 3 rings on the caller's phone have passed
any help?! it's really annoying
Although I have noticed that the light goes off before the ringing and screen wakes up, what the person calling you hears is not reality.
It is somewhat network dependent, but when you call someone you often hear rings before the person you are calling actually hears them on their phone. This is because there is quite a few seconds of of network negotiation going on, and the telcos think it is better to give you an indication that it is connecting rather than nothing at all, so they often start the rings at the connecting stage.
ah! but sometimes when the phone is on my desk i can see the ball flashing for about 3 seconds (if not more) before the screen livens up and i can see who is calling
I have this problem too on a SIM free unit. Using custom mp3 ringtone for calls and a sound exported from a soundboard for my message tone.
For calls at first it just vibrates and the trackball flashes and then a few seconds later the screen will light up showing the caller and the ringtone will start.
Not a massive issue obviously but would be nice if it all happened at once as I would expect.

I have exactly the same issue, except its everytime rather than sometimes.
I am using a white unbranded Hero, and one of the standard ring tones.
Ringtone lag on my device is present too. But i guess that having used winmo after so long got myself immune to this.
It seems that the number of people with this problem is low otherwise this thread would be booming. I've reduced the delay to one ring by using wave files...but sometimes it still does produce a longer delay.
Note: I also get this problem with texts...the trackball lights up but the tone is heard after a couple of seconds. Hopefully the upcoming update will sort it out.

I don't think that the number of devices with this problem is low. On the contrary, i believe it is prominent on most of the devices but just that most of the people here have been using winmo for ages and are quite used to this "ringtone delay"
I for a fact considered it to be normal until i saw this post . I don't think htc updates will solve it up ( never did for diamond ) but i just hope that once chefs start cooking custom roms for our heroes, they'll figure out a tweak or something to reduce this delay.
Me too
I also have the issue of lagging ring/notification tones for call, text messages, and emails. Screen could also come on sooner for calls, although I find that unless I have the phone next to me on the desk, it's not an issue as by the time I get it out of my pocket or so, everything works as it should.
Just so people don't think the number of people affected by this is low. I think it's rather a case of most people not considering it much of a problem.
Yup, I have the problem. I could alter the registry on WinMo so it didn't happen, but seems to happen quite a bit on my Hero. I even get it sometimes when the phone rings for 1 second then goes silent.
Ring delay is annoying though

[Q] Push notifications and chat delay

Hi!
I have a few very annoying problems I want to get rid of.
The first is that all sorts of push notifications are often (if not always) very delayed. For example, when someone's played Wordfeud and it's my turn it can take up to 20 minutes before the phone alerts me. Same thing with Whatsapp and other apps. I did a factory reset recently and the problem seemed solved but after just a few hours the delays began to appear again. Both with 3G and Wi Fi.
It is the same thing with the built in FB-chat. Sometimes messages are also delayed for up to an hour. Occationally when I enter the Message hub and swipes to Online tab the messages arrives but it's rare. It could at first appear as work when two or maximum three messages arrives but then the conversation just dies and I must go to the Facebook app to view and continue the chat. Also after the factory reset it worked somewhat fine but just like with Push notifications it didn't work long enough... Same here, both over 3G and Wi Fi.
Does anyone have a single clue of what the issue is here?
Is the phone checking for new notifications in a certain pattern, like every 30 minutes?
I'm not completely sure if this is the right forum for this but I'm beginning to be kind of desperate. Notifications on iOS and Android works like a charm and I don't think the Lumia with WP should be behind in this matter.
Extremly thankful for answers.

Mikael Ivarsson

its not a problem of software, its a wanted feature of microsoft, wp7 doesnt have any multitastking, so if you turn of wifi and whatsapp is running, wifi is turned off for some minutes and if you turn on screen, wifi connects and whatsapp gets your messages, thats what i realized..
next phone wont be wp. :/ nice OS but the little things like this are annoying

Thanks for the reply!
But that's the strange thing, even if i don't turn off the screen and keep the phone "awake" there are no toast. The push notifications were instant for a few hours after the factory reset so there must be something that is "blocking" push messages. Same thing with the fb-chat. The chat should also work without problems even when the screen is turned off.
Me too are also considering walking out of Microsoft on this one. The OS is very beautiful and everything is so thought through but they still have som work to do.
Yes, background agents run every 30 minutes
thats why i wont buy a wp phone anymore. its really annoying and not SMARTphone like!
But shouldn't push messages be pushed through nearly instant?
it should be popup in the second it arrives
Exactly. Even if the screen is unlocked and wifi 3G is connected and all that it still is a delay.
The problem seem to have solved itself! I don't know what I've done but one morning I woke up and everything worked smoothly. Let's hope the issue doesn't return!
Data connection should be enabled for Push notifications to work. Maybe you went above your data cap or sometimes the 3G reception got lost.
Also, are you sure that app uses Push notifications and not regular Toasts sent by a background agent ?

Disabling everything that has to do with phone- emissions

Ok Allow me to explain.
I am sure there will be naysayers saying it isn't possible or attribute it to placebo effect or whatever.
I am having really sensitive issues with my Samsung galaxy S2.
Before I had a simple nokia. I didn't use it as much, and I didn't experience any discomfort.
Now with my S2 I am feeling pains/stings, in my stomach, brain, teeth, heart, eyes, legs, fingers.
I know how it sounds, but that's appearently how sensitive I am.
I know it is caused by the device, but I don't know what causes it. For example wifi feature, basic call/receive- cell phone technology something else or a combination.. I didn't test this as much.
Even if I am doing something else and someone *activates their phone* meaning the screen lits up, and I don't even see the person doing it.
I know usually very quickly that a phone is nearby.
So when the phone screen is dark. I don't experience it as much, more so when it is in *usermode*.
Anyway I don't wanna sell it because I don't know exactly what is causing it and it cost me 300 euro's. I still have my basic Samsung for calls.
I still want to use it for mp3 playback because I like the way it works + some offline games.
So my question here is. I already disabled wifi+ mobile data+bluetooth icon
Is there a way to de-activate the MOST components other then what I need to use the mp3 player+ play plats vs zombies for example.
I want to de-activate or freeze everything with Titanium backup tool or maybe you guys know a better way?
Please assist me in what is safe to freeze.
look at the stickied thread in themes n apps section.. :good:
This is not helping my friend.
I need someone who knows what they are talking about.
I want to shut down every service/ app that may communicate any kind of signal, mobile/wifi.
Does the Samsung really not put out any wifi signal when u press off the icon?
What services may block incoming calls or "checking" connecting to the airwaves/network.
Basically I want the telephone dead of emitting anything..
I don't care about normal apps that don't use any kind of emittance.
Hi chrisssj2,
When you press off the icon it just shuts down wifi so no it doesnt put out any wifi signal.
The best and safest way is just to freeze apps since you have to do more work when you accidently deleted an neccesary app.
The service that does checking connecting to mobile network is telephony/ril service, I dont know the exact name how samsung calls it but you can use airplane mode since it disables simcard/mobilenetwork and it disables wifi.
You could also disable bluetooth and location services/gps.
It seems that you are very, very sensitive to electronic devices.
There is also probably also a list of applications what you can disable on your galaxy s2 but I cant find it for you since my browser on my tablet (chrome) updated and now bugs like hell.
Did you already went to a doctor or maybe googled on internet about your sensitivity for electronic devices? Maybe there is like a temporary fix or a solution for that problem like some kind of case which reduces it so it won't irritate you.
Hello,
How do I use airplane mode? I have heard of this but I have never used such thing.
I have wifi gps, vibrate, screen rotate, blue tooth. mobile data, power saving, sync .
Only things on are powersaving, vibrate and sync. (not sure what sync does)
No I haven't. Because I know it isn't an accepted thing... you know people calling you crazy and all..
I read they have stickers for it, but there also naysayers on this.. not sure.
I also have disabled wifi on my internet router. I hope the signal is really 100% off when you do this. So I can really test how Ill feel.
I did not find this "telephony/ril service"...
I am not overreacting because I have been annoying on it for like 1 year now (got the phone almost 2 years now.) And I just seem to get more sensitive to it.. and have been ignoring it, but now something said enough is enough..
Anyway I took out the sim and put it in my simple nokia phone.
I will be so happy if I not get electrocuted by my phone and can listen music on it ^^
Very important to me, I like it way better then a normal mp3 player.

How to kill the Android 8.1 "Turn off mobile data?" popup?

I'm running Lineage 15.1 on my Moto G5 Plus and I have to say I'm very satisfied with everything in the new release with the exception of one thing: the annoying popup it gives you when you turn off mobile data. Does anyone know how to turn this off? It's driving me nuts, reminds me of my old Samsung.
Any help, suggestions, or simply +1s are appreciated.
I'd like to know that too. Mighty annoying little popup.
Why Android, Why?
So makes me want to toss my phone every time, multiple times a day, all day long.
YES, I'm f** sure, that's why i clicked it and additionally that's why I put it in a list of fixed quick commands because I fully am aware exactly what the f*** it's suppose to do.
It's a popup that covers 85% of my screen that can be swiped away ONLY if you DO NOT want it to do what you want, why is this backwards. Asking Bixby or Google to turn of mobile data as part of a list of commands is not possible, ie. "I'm home" is set up to 1.turn on wi-fi 2.Turn off mobile data 3.Open calendar - What happens instead is 1.wi-fi-on 2.attempt to mobile data off - popup for confirmation 3.opens calendar - But mobile data never turns off because the popup was never confirmed, so for all I know I get booted off wi-fi and am streaming movies on mobile data. So makes Bixby and Goggle "quick commands" USELESS to me. Forcing me to touch my phone more often than I should have to, forcing me to really think that Android may believe we are as clueless to customization as iOS users, Forcing me to have to stop and stare at phone in disgust
Do I really need to be told 6 times a day this same message over and over? On top of the daily harassment of 2 dozen popups about damaging my hearing from loud volume. IT'S MY HEARING !
Where is the "Don't show again" button? Why need a confirmation instead of just a notification? You want to tell me that wifi is disconnected - sure, tell me data is off/on - sure thanks, but why is there an extra button to push for anything to happen anymore. Not very "Smart" these days, OR they think we're not as smart these days. IDK but I need a fix, anybody?
I know how u feel bro am having the same problem on my asus zenfone max pro.
I searched everywhere.
Haven't found a clue how to.

Disable fly-in volume level on v60

This wouldn't be such a big issue if the fly-in was happening less often, but I use bluetooth a lot. When the phone connects, it feels the need to show me the level of the volume. I usually couldn't care less so I tap somewhere to make it go away. It flies in again. I tap again. It flies in again and by this time might want to click play or pause on YouTube but this stupid fly-in won't get out of the way. I'd rather just disable it.
Also the call timer when not on the phone call app. I hate it. I use bluetooth often and speaker phone and couldn't care less how long I've been on the phone. It's just in the way.
Has anyone been able to modify these without rooting? I'm wary of rooting because I'm sure I'll need to use the warranty on this phone.
