need a quick tip please - Motorola Droid RAZR

have the razr, not fully used anymore.. use it in my daughter's room to play music.. she let it die, unpluged it.. It's always had an issue chargeing up from dead.. I know the USB port is iffy, cuz it will only work with certain cords to charge it.. I plug it in, and has the white light that's on for anywhere from 1-5 min.. i keep plugging it in and trying to put a charge on it.. but its been almost a week and I can't get a charge..any ideas?

Yes, if the battery gets too low, the firmware needed to control charging can not load. If you see the white light, charging should be hardware controlled, which is very slow. This could take a couple days, but any more than that it's probably not charging.
Several possibilities.
Battery could be bad, buy a new battery.
Charge port is bad, could be fixed, but likely not worth it.
Sometimes when a motorola device's battery gets too low, it just will not charge, like it didn't shut down properly.
A few things you could try
Connect to PC, for a hour or so, then retry a wall charger for several hours.
Hold volume down, connect to pc, if you see the AP fastboot mode, post complete screen text, then try wall charger again
Buy a fastboot cable, connect to pc with fastboot cable, while holding volume down, if you see AP fastboot screen, post full full screen text.
Try the MacGyver Method
---------- Post added at 06:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:15 PM ----------
Another option is disconnect the battery for a min or so
Motorola Droid RAZR Battery Replacement
you would need to pry off back cover, and remove 1 or both of the battery terminal screws with a T5 Torx Screwdriver.
Then screw it back in, and try charging again.

i've already replaced the battery, when I was useing it, I converted it to the razr maxx. So I know the battery is fine. I didn't think about trying the computer.. i'll give that a shot.. thanks!

Still if you have the original, i would try it, it will still help eliminate possible issues.

[Q] Dead Photon won't charge? (SOLVED)

Yesterday I let my phone die (low battery > powering down) and it stayed dead for 30 or so minutes. I plugged it into my wall charger and nothing happened. It didn't boot up, and there was no LED light.
I plugged it into USB and got a WHITE light, but it didn't charge. Even if I remove the battery I still get the white light when it's on USB.
I tried leaving my phone on the wall charger overnight, nothing happened.
I left it on USB for 4 hours, still nothing happened.
To sum it up:
Plug it into wall charger: Nothing happens, no LED
Plug it into wall charger with battery in: White LED
Plug it into wall charger with battery out: White LED
Nothing will charge it. I tried 2 USB cables and 3 wall chargers. I know they all work because I also used them to charge my replacement phone.
Returning to Sprint is NOT an option (I live in Canada)
What can I do to fix this?? The phone is less than 2 months old

Your battery has been drained out completely.so you will need to boost up your battery.either connect your battery to a compatible battery charger or do following step
take one of your usb cable and cut it. you will get four wires. you will need red wire and black wire. Take out the photon's battery and connect the red wire to (+)positive terminal and black wire to (-)negative terminal of the battery as indicated on the battery.now connect it to your wall charger and let it charge for 15-20 min and after charging insert the battery in your photon and charge like normal.
Huge thanks! Worked great, my Photon is back up and running! I stripped the cable I had from an old audio player and connected it like you said (the (+) and (-) are the outermost terminals).
I'm going to invest in a standalone wall charger for the battery now, as well as tell Tasker to turn off my phone at a reasonable 10% battery so it doesn't completely die.
Thanks again for the help!

Proud that it helped..
But remember not to overcharge your battery with this method this is only for boosting the battery. don't charge for more than 15-20 min.
having a very similar problem as op but...
Hey wuddup fellas,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Well, never really had to until now. Anyways, Im having a VERY similar problem as the OP but with the difference that my white LED only comes on for a short amount of time when connected via usb, maybe a couple mins max. Not to mention, for some reason, the white LED only comes on when connected to a specific usb port... I got 3 on my laptop (1 on left, 2 on right) and it only comes on when attached to the 1 on the left.
Lead up to failure: I was on texting when the 5% low battery pop up showed itself. I usually get 10mins before it dies so I didnt sweat it. Then, a few mins later it died. Ok, np, I'll just connect the charger wait a sec and we'll be good to go... Guess again, when I plugged in the charger, the charging indicator didnt come on, which I thought weird. Maybe its super dead, I'll just wait a few mins and it should be able to turn on... Nope, nada. So, I pop in the extra battery I got... Same thing happens to that one! Now I'm at a loss.
I read a few forum posts around the interwebs that sound along the same lines of whats going on with my phone. This post turns out to be the closest, so I try and jump start my batteries... Again, nada. Another post says I need to charge the battery out of the phone. So, I Amazon a standalone charger for the batteries. Throw one on the new charger, battery is completely dead, takes a few hours for it to charge. Throw the newly charged battery in the phone... nothing. Charge and throw the 2nd one in... Again, NOTHING!
Now the white led wont come on anymore. Which I guess it wouldnt need to cause the batteries are fully charged. But now I got no clue where to go... please if someone has any insight, i'd greatly appreciate it.
I can only charge from the car charger a very old laptop and by computer if a hdmi monitor is pluged in to the photon.
The laptop has a dead cmos battery so it sites at the hit F1.

Sorry to wake up this thread, but I'm having a similar problem and tried the wire method. When I plug into the computer I get the same white light, but I also get the white light when I plug into the wall. After trying with the wire, I plugged into the computer and pressed the power button. The light turned green, but the screen still didn't come on.
do you have spare battery from any other mobile.just take it and connect two wire + and - to the spare battery then other end to the photon phone pins using crocodile clips with same + and - symbol just double check before connecting don't connect reverse only connect to two pins then try to turn on and post your reply..
Motorola Photon Q, Dead. Fixed easy
I did as some suggested above, but without removing the battery. After removing the back, I just unscrewed the (+) and (-) screws on the battery, lifted up the battery tab, then clipped small alligator jumpers directly onto the battery tabs. I connected a power source of 4.35v until the battery read 3.77v, then removed the power. Then I started charging it with the standard wall charger and it powered up -- now working great.

Is my battery fried?

So I've been running CM9 nightlies on my phone for a for a while now and everything has been working great. I believe the last nightly I flashed was 5/12 or around there and I've had no problems with it so far until last night my battery was about to die. So I plugged it in to my computer to charge overnight. This morning when I woke up I noticed the phone was dead and was pretty warm to the touch. Now it won't turn on.
I have tried pulling out the battery and letting them both sit for about 30min but it still won't turn on. When I put the battery in and try turning it on the charging icon pops up for a second or 2 then goes away and sometimes it will flash on and off. I think it could be the battery because if I take the battery out and try going in to download mode it will turn on to the initial warning screen warning about flashing and what not. If i put the battery in at this point it immediately shuts off. I just don't know how it could go from working fine to not working at all overnight.
Anyone have any suggestions? The phone is only about 4 months old.

Sorry I should have added that to the original post, plugging directly into the wall is what I have been trying today and still no luck.
He means why in the world would u plug your phone into your computer to charge especially if it was almost dead. Next time i would just use the standard wall charger from the get go if you're looking to fully charge it.

Every phone that I have ever owned with a USB port I have charged through the USB port from a computer, and I have never once had an issue. When I plugged it in the battery symbol changed to charging so I didn't think anything of it. When I woke up it was dead.

^ This.. I mean yes you can use USB to charge, but USB isn't as reliable for everyday use...
I pulled the battery and then let it sit for about 30 min and then charged from the wall charger for about 30 minutes and it still will not even turn on.
Order a new battery off Amazon or something.
Will it power on with the battery in and the wall charger connected?

I'm thinking that's what I'm going to do. Might take it to Best Buy and see if they can check it since the phone is only 4 months old. Not holding my breath on that though.
Phone will not turn on with the battery in while plugged in to the wall charger. I can see the battery symbol with the little circle when I first plug it in but it goes away after a second or so. The only way I can get the phone to turn on is if I remove the battery, hold the volume buttons and plug the USB cable in while connected to a PC. This brings up the download mode warning screen asking to continue. If i put the battery in at this screen it shuts off. If I hit continue with the battery out if shuts off. I guess the only thing to do is try another battery.
Does it taste like chicken? If so, then its probably fried.

Replace the battery.
welp apparently it fixed itself. I just left the battery in it and let it sit powered off for the rest of the work day and when I was leaving work ready to head to Best Buy just out of curiousity I plugged it into my car charger and it magically turned on. Now the wall charger and USB charging are working as well. No clue what that was all about but works for me. Thanks for the replies guys.
Bah same thing is happening to me with my sgs2. It just keeps showing the battery charging screen then going off. Any ideas?

Your battery should be dead. My dad had exactly the same experience as you did. Try calling att for a new battery if the phone still in warranty.
USB charging is just unreliable: different motherboards may even supply slightly different voltages. Although it doesn't make a difference in normal use, adding a near empty battery to the equation complicates things.

Will not power on at all..

My S3 was functional when I plugged it into the charger and went to bed last night, woke up at around 8 am, checked my emails and went back to sleep. When I woke back up the phone was in a powered down state (still hooked up to the charger). From that point on it has not powered back up at all, no logo, nothing.
I have tried pulling the battery, hooking it up to computer, trying to power up with just charger and no battery and everything else I can think of. Anyone face a situation like this or is my phone dead?

Try that
Plug off from charger pull battery out.
Take a coin and hold it on every contact from the battery contatcs of your phone.
All metal pins the same time
Hold the coin a few seconds on all pins.
Relese the coin plug in the charger. Than the battery and try to power on

How to charge battery in recovery mode?

I have rooted and unlocked the bootloader on my Atrix 4g. I have the CWM installed. I formatted everything in preparation for installing a custom rom. However, my battery died before I could install the new rom. No problems yet, as I can plug the charger in and get into bootloader. However, the battery doesn't seem to be charging. I left it plugged in for hours and when I try to boot into fastboot it give me a message saying:
"Battery is too low to flash"
So I am unable to do anything through fastboot. How can I get my battery charged enough to work with fastboot? As I said, I've plugged it into the charger for several hours and it just sat there in the bootloader with the "Unlocked" message. Apparently it powers on, but won't charge the battery here.
Any thoughts on how to the get battery charged enough to use fastboot?
You can't charge the battery from fastboot mode unless you have one of the factory cables like the ones that Team Black Hat sells (here's a video about it)
Edit: It doesn't actually charge the battery, just allows it to get enough power to run as if it was plugged into the wall.
Here's the thing, with fastboot, it'll stop allowing it to activate even before the battery is totally dead. I made a similar mistake to the one you made, but I was about to bypass the low battery warning by starting my phone while it was plugged into the wall charger, entering fastboot, then removing the charger and plugging it into my computer. This is obviously risky if your battery dies while you're in the middle of something, but I've had it work before, I just wouldn't recommend it.
Is there anyway to charge the battery without having the special adapter if I don't have a rom installed?
I had it plugged into the wall charger for hours just sitting at the bootloader screen (not fastboot). It just says "Unlocked" with the Motorola logo. I don't need to run the fastboot right away, I can wait until the battery charges, but it never does. My bootloader has a few options:
Fastboot
NvFlash
BP HW Bypass RSD
BP HW Bypass QC DLOAD
BP HW Diag & Boot AP
BP HW Bypass BP Only
BP SW Bypass RSD
Android Recovery
Boot Android (No BP)
Device UID
console=tty50,115200n8
Early USB Enumeration
BP Tools
RSD
1. I've tried selecting nothing with the wall charger plugged in for hours and still get the battery warning when trying to use Fastboot.
2. I've tried selecting Fastboot with the wall charger plugged in for hours, same message
3. I've tried selecting "Android Recorvery" with the wall charger for hours, same message
Is there anything I can select above that will allow my battery to charge when plugged into the wall? If I can get it charged, then I can use Fastboot no problem.
Any suggestions?
How about if you dont turn the phone on?
As in.. pull the battery, then reinsert and then just plug into wall charger. Do you get the battery charging animation?
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
I thought of this and tried it first, but as soon as I plug in the wall charger, I see the green LED come on, then I see the bootloader screen. I can't seem to have it plugged in without it turning itself on.
If you don't have a booting ROM, you're SOL, just like I said. Your only option is to find another way to charge the battery (like a charging dock just for the battery), use a factory cable, or trick fastboot like I outlined in my previous post.

I tried this, but when it enters Fastboot with the wall charger, I get the "Battery is too low to flash". So this doesn't really help. Even if I switch it over to the USB, that message is still on the screen.
sorry if this post is not very revelant for you but, here is the deal
Motorola Atrix got its battery states by a system file called BACCD and/or similar if i remimber it right, to be able to read the information out of the battery, but you need two tings first !
First : A valid BOOT partition : right now your phone will NEVER EVER go past that logo boot screen even after a wole week pluged in .. you will just hurt your lcd as it is always turned on, cause there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO BOOT !!!! Awkward situation ... i know !!!! :S ive been there !
Second : A working ROM that has the permissions fixed and fonctionnal for the kernel to be able to tell inside the boot protocol script that you wont boot up android, you just want to charge it !
Then, you can have a charging state (with that particular system file)
So, unfortunatly, this is a MUST ! you must do everything to save the battery consumation until you have flashed a ROM and fixed permission (dont really need to actually boot it, as long as it has the boot partition and the system files) so that way you wont be running out of battery
So actually, someone vcorrect me if im wrong but you got 3 choices : buy yourself an MB860 Battery Charger Module, A home made factory cable at least, or borrow an BHX9 battery from a frien just for flashing if you are lucky and someone you know close to you that has that kind of battery, cause there is NO knowned ways to charge a bettery within the phone without an operationnal system and Boot protocol installed to the phone ! Sorry
Ok, I solved the problem by "hot wiring" the phone battery. I found this information on another forum and used the technique to trick Fastboot into thinking the battery had full power (when I is really powered from USB):
NOTE: I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE DONE TO ANY PHONE, BATTERY, ETC. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WITH CAUTION TO AVOID RISK OF DAMAGE.
1. Take your cable and cut off one of the ends, leaving a standard USB plug at the opposite end to plug into your computer.
2. Now you need to strip about and inch of the wire off until you get to the core where you should see 4 colored wires (red, black, white, and green). The colors don't really matter and they may vary, just as long as you can see a red wire and a black wire.
3. Strip off about a quarter inch of the rubber sleeving on the red and black cables, exposing the actual metal wire.
4. Twist the metal strands of each of the wires a couple of times so that all of the wires from the black cable are together and all of the wires from the red cable are together. This is just to make sure that you don't create a short circuit.
5. Here's where it gets a little tricky. You are going to use this cable to make the phone think the battery is fully charged, when in fact you will just be powering the phone using the power from the USB port. Pull out the battery on your phone and find the 4 exposed metal slots (the battery terminals).
6. Each of the far terminals should be labeled with a plus (+) or a minus (-). What you need to do is put exposed leads on the red wire up to the positive terminal and the leads of the black wire up to the negative terminal.
I was just able to do what I needed in Fastboot and now I'm back in business. Thanks for the advice.

ouch, better out trying a factory cable and flash in a regular CWM ways, two of my friends actually fried their phone passing Directly to the battery like this .. i mean .. if it works for some, we have now a WHOLE new generation devices that separates our atrix from that phone inside the video lolllll
Did you actually tried it with an atrix yourself ?!

Yup, I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. It was a little tricky making sure that the red/black wires were secured to the proper battery leads and not touching others. But a little tape held it in place nicely.
I needed to get into Fastboot to install a newer/working version of CWD. For some reason the version I had on there wasn't able to flash a custom rom. It said it flashed it completely, but then I was never able to boot into anything.
After doing the above procedure I was able to get a working version of CWD using Fastboot. Then I was able to install the custom rom. Now I'm up and running perfectly with Jelly Bean!

Device UID
console=tty50,115200n8

That's good advice for next time I screw my phone up. I'll definitely give that a try.
I used a USB cable from an old Sony Ericsson phone that I haven't used for years. It seems that all USB cables have the same 4 wires in it, so I just cut that one up since I didn't need it anymore.
You need to buy something like this

Changed LCD, dead battery? - Troubleshooting help.

Hello XDA.
Update.
Changed battery. Nothing changed.
Tried the suggestions posted Here no change.
Before I started this process, I was able to turn the phone on, hear the startup sounds, and charge it, no problem.
Yesterday I changed my cracked LCD (and digitizer) with one of these witrigs .com/oem-lcd-with-digitizer-for-sony-xperia-z2 (I'm not allowed to post links)
Followed the instructions provided by witrigs.
However, after having put it together again, when I try to turn it on all I get is 3 red blinks. (This would indicate low / empty battery, right?)
So I connected it to the charger (tried both wallsocket, and USB from two different computer, and different cables.) and all it gives me is a red light.
Normally, this would mean that it's charging, as far as I know, but it stays like that for hours, without any changes. So I was puzzled by this, googled to no avail.
I can not get it in flashmode, nor fastboot mode. However, here is the interesting part. When I disconnect the battery from the back and connect the phone to a charger (or USB from PC) the screen lights up, and shows me the charging animation.
In addition to this, when the battery is disconnected, I can get it into fastboot (Blue led, if I've read correct, I can not get into this with the battery connected.)
With this information, and my lack of real knowledge about how this technology works, I assumed the battery was broken, so to test that a bit further, I checked it with a multimeter.
It's currently showing 4.2v. I don't have another battery I can try with as of now, nor do I have other readings from other batteries. Maybe some of you do.
Anyway, have any of you encountered anything like this before? and or have any suggestions as to what I can / should test or try next? - I'm running out of ideas. (I will buy a new battery when I have money, but it probably will not be here in 5-8 weeks, due to when I get money and shippingtime.)
Thanks in advance for your time, and I'm terribly sorry if this has been talked about before. I searched, but maybe my searching skills are bad, as I could not find anything like this.
Edit: For the sake of trying wild things, I tried to un-brick it using flashtool and a custom FTF. Exact same condition.

Same problem help us guys
What THE?
Your situation is exactly mine :crying:.
Always dreamed of this phone model, bought a cheap one with broken glass, it was working fine, I tried with a controller and was working.
Bought a high quality screen replacement that wasn't so cheap (quality seems pretty good actually).
Opened the phone using a hair dryer, it was easier than I thought and actually easier than any phone I ever opened.
Changed screen, and SAME PROBLEM AS YOU, 3 red lights, no boot. I also tried everything you tried, it shows up the battery charging icon without the battery.
ps: There got to be something pretty wrong with this, PLEASE SOMEONE HELP.

I also am in the exact same situation. I was very carefull when I changed the display and I took my time for it (two hours!)
I used a hairdryer to make the glue soft. Maybe this overheated the battery? That is the only thing I can Think of.
Anyone else with the same problem?
Anyone else with some tips?
update: ordered a new battery. If I overheated it, it will probably work again.
Does any one now if there is some intelligence that checks if the battery has problems / damage / too high of a temperature?
Try flashing kitkat ftf without the battery. I think this is a firmware failsafe thing due to difference between display panel and display firmware on the device. Battery even when damaged should not prevent boot if the device is connected to a power source.
This is just a wild guess, too. Try flashing older ftfs that may be free of these failsafes.

Thanks for the good tip! Sounds like that could be something too.
I tried/will try it in this order :
1) original loader, load the phone for 2 days (no success)
2) wait three days without loader ( I read about others that were about to send their phones away and then they started working again)
3) change the battery with a new one (its on its way)
4) your idea, flash the phone
I was thinking about overheating sensors in the battery. Maybe it "says" to the phone "I will not charge myself. I am damaged" (because of the high temperature when using the hair dryer).
Maybe the battery has to forget that it once was too hot?
I also thought about that the phone does not want the battery because the battery reported the high temperature to the phone (and probably an unique ID).
Maybe the phone stores somewhere that that battery is a battery with problems and thus has a "ban list" somewhere?
Any way, thank you for the tip! As a final solution, I will do that.
If that does not work, I will probably look for another phone

I was thinking more about the things you wrote....
What about if it is a failsafe that is written in the firmware. So that it does not matter what battery you put into it afterwards. That is just is a "WTF! HALT! BSOD " and that this is permanent untill you flash it (because you Clean the flash then).
I will follow your device right away. You gave me hope again
Update 19:26 GMT+1 : I can unlock the bootloader, I can boot in flash mode and fastboot mode, but only without battery.
With battery in it nothing works. Only the red light.
The only thing I can get on my screen is the battery logo, and only if the battery is not in it.
As soon as the battery is in it, nothing works.
I think the Z2 cannot boot without a battery?
update : 20:24 GMT+1 : I read that someone could not charge the phone i normal mode, but it worked in fastboot mode.
So i now booted the phone in fastboot (without battery) and then plugged in the battery while in fastboot mode. The system does not hang itself, so maybe it is charging? Maybe it is not...
I will reboot in an hour and see if I can notice any difference...

I sure hope you'll fix your Z2, this is indeed a weird issue. I can only add that I have repaired Z, Z1c and Z2 devices with heat gun and hair driers with battery inside and never had any issues with batteries, not even weakened capacity. Of course in your case it only remains to exchange the battery for a new one. If that fails then IDK, logic board is next, but that is just not economic anymore. Hope you sort this out, GL

It looks like it is another problem, maybe the logic board
I took out the battery again and measured it using a multimeter. It says 4.3 volts.
On the battery, it says 4.35 volts, so I assume the battery is fully loaded.
I am running out of tricks

And now I changed the battery. Same problem.
Long story short: Some z2 owners around the world have changed the broken LCD screen and now they get the "red light of death" (I googled "changed lcd / digitizer" "red light" and found a few with the same problem. Not just Z2, but also Z and Z3
Its not the battery. Its not the screen (without battery ,you get the battery logo on the screen when you try to turn it on, so the LCD screen works).
The facts :
- 3 flashes when you try to turn on the phone without charging cable + battery in it
- i can lock and unlock the bootloader without problems
- nothing happens when you try to turn on the phone with charging cable in it. (The red light stays on)
- with the charging cable in the phone, you get the red charging light, but thats all.
- holding in on/off + volume up with the battery does give 3 vibrates, but nothing more
- without battery I can flash and fastboot. Without errors. Even the Sony tool can flash the phone.
- if I give fastboot commands I get three dots as an answer and then nothing more. It just hangs there
- a new battery does not solve the problem
- magnetic charger does not solve the problem
- original sony cable + sony charger does not solve the problem
- dock-loader from sony does not solve the problem
- flashing the phone with the oldest firmware and the newest does not solve the problem
- the battery is fully loaded and the voltage does not drop if I measure it during a "power on"
I guess I am out of luck It feels crappy to but a new phone. Not that I cannot afford it, but it feels like such a waste of money.
Another thing is that I really like my dedicated camera button, so I am kinda stuck to the brand too
If any one has any tips, or things I can try, please tell me!
After some more googling, I discovered that there is a japanese version of the Z2. It is called "Docomo SO-03F". This seems to be real Sony (so not a clone). This phone has its own firmware too! Maybe this is the problem? That people with the same problem are installing a Docomo screen in stead of a real Z2 screen?
Does any one know if this could be true? That the hardware is too different?
Just found out about an older post about this phone, but it does not specify about the hardware that much.

No... I hate to say it, but no... :crying: :crying: :crying:
If you take out the battery again. Then you can flash again (holding the volume button down). But as soon as you put the battery back in, it is the same problem. It is so strange.
First I was concinved that it had to do with the battery, because if you take out the battery, and put the cable in the charger (not the computer!), then you get the battery logo on the screen. Do you have that too?

What firmware did you flash? I flashed android 4.x (two different versions). Then I also got no battery logo.
I think the logo is included in the firmware.
When I flashed android 5 again, then the battery logo came back again. Of course, ONLY when the battery was not in the phone. Else I only get the red light.
Android5.1.1 but now when try to flash no reaction when plug the usb cable. Is dead

Try this :
1) take out battery
2) start flashtool (download the latest)
3) hold down powerbutton and then plug the cable in the computer
4) Does it say device connected then? Then you can probably flash it using Flashtool
I assume that you have all the correct drivers (ADB drivers) installed and that you flashed before using Flashtool

you buy a new baterry?
Yes. that made no difference
I think this is a firmware compatibility problem. The screen is not compatible with the phone and thus creating a kernel panic on startup. But,Im just guessing. I am sure I did not destroy anything in the phone when changing the screen. I was extremely careful.
Did you also buy it from China. Does it have the Sony Logo on it? (mine does).
There are also version with the sony logo on it, but there is some black stuff over it, that you have to scrape off. Mine was not like that.
