I got my S6 Edge about 6 hours ago but then when I started charging it the top of the screen (it wasn't turned on, it died 2 minutes earlier) got kinda hot (as hot as my nexus 4 under stress) so I Googled around and found out that fast charge can kill your accelerometer. I immediately unplugged it even though 10-15 minutes had already passed. The accelerometer seems to work fine but I'm wondering if it got even slightly damaged during those 10-15 minutes. I got my S6 Edge from a local carrier here in Italy (Tre, it's got the brand and all when the phone boots or shuts down ) Could this one be a different model that's not affected or should I just ask them to replace it either with another S6 Edge or a regular S6 ? Also, S Voice's "Hi Galaxy " feature doesn't work at all yet the S Voice app itself does. Is that normal ? Everything's turned on in the app's settings.
P.S. I performed a factory reset cause the phone was getting kinda hot and now it's getting just slightly warm.
Hello? Anyone?
I myself have not yet used the fast charger that came with the phone because my old Samsung charger was still working and is a lot more compact. When I found out about the whole accelerometer issue, I avoided using it even more.
I'm also curious about the whole accelerometer thing, though. Something tells me that my old charger will retire soon.

I charged it for 10-15 mins but the accelerometer doesn't seem to be stuck. I checked with the *#0*# menu's accelerometer graph and it doesn't seem to be stuck.
I don't know whether it's fixed or not, and which version of the device is affected, but I've been using my S6 Edge Gold G925F for about 2 months and have used the fast charger about 15 times now, I use the Wireless Charger that I got for free together with the device, so I only use the Fast Charger if I indeed need a fast charge, again I usually put my phone on the floor or any surface that is usually kinda cold

Well you can check if it's damaged or not by dailing *#0*# and go to Sensor if the x value of the accelerometer gets locked on a single value as you rotate the phome then the chip is damaged

The values all change and the graph seems to be smooth. I have no idea how smooth it should be but yeah, neither the X or Y get stuck.
(I charged it for 10 minutes with my Nexus 4's charger before I could power it)
Also, just a little question.. Shouldn't there be an animation when pressing the home button/coming back from the recent apps menu ?
Also, should I keep my Edge or get a normal S6 ?

Then it's working perfectly.
The only animation I see is just the recent apps sliding down, so if there's no recent apps you won't see any animation.
It depends on which one you like more, if you really concerned about the fast charging issue then go with the normal S6 as it seems to not suffer from that, but for the beauty of the edge I forever will stay with the S6 edge, so it boils down to personal preference

I've just been to my carrier's store and they said my Edge came from a brand new batch and that they've never had anyone return their Edge. They also said that if I end up burning the accelerometer I won't have to worry cause my Edge is under warranty and they'll just give me a new one.

I did, it's apparently software-related so it's all good. When it happens I just usually hold it in front of my monitor for 3-5 seconds and it goes back to normal.
(This carrier's stuck on 5.0.2 by the way, should I just say f*ck it and get busy with it just like I've always done with my Nexus 4/S3?)
By the way, it got REALLY warm while charging and even when using it for a while (Probably 45-50°C, felt a bit hotter than my Nexus 4 under extreme stress, could be wrong tho) but I've tested the accelerometer a ton of times (Doing it right now too and there's nothing wrong with it.) so yeah I'm 99% sure I'm gonna keep this Edge.

Well you not alone my carrier takes forever to publish updates so i'm also stuck on 5.0.2, but i'm prepared to wait.
The fast charger will make very hot since it sends in a higher charge.. And i'm glad you didn't get a defective device

I don't think it was an actual defect. Most people said it was the heat generated by the fast charge that killed their accelerometer. Even after their very first charge.
Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe this model isn't affected or something. Also, it probably got even hotter than that cause I keep it inside one of these

(That's exactly the one I have, the Edge's got a little bit of space in there. That case's for the S6, not the Edge but I don't think a little extra space is gonna hurt.)
I got my s6 edge last Wednesday and have only used the fast charger, did not realize there was an issue if I did, I can't imagine Samsung would sell it with the phone if it can't be used along with it, anyways have charged my phone once a day so that makes it 6-8 charges and have not had any problems, the phone gets warm but not hot, did the test for accelometer and everything working well, but thanks for pointing it out, I will start using my normal charger from my previous HTC one just to avoid any issues.
From S6 Edge
I think it's for this reason Samsung said "some" devices are affected, unfortunately they didn't elaborate more on that

Mine probably isn't then. AFAIK there haven't been any reports outside the US. Could be wrong tho.
I'm using my fast charger for 2 months now, twice every 24 hours on average and I have had zero issues. This was the first time I read about the accelerometer thing even. No worries I think.
Mine had the issue and it was repaired.
I'm sort of using the fast charger; I have it plugged in to a QI pad and I charge the phone wirelessly. I've yet to plug it in to the phone though.

Noticed that sometimes no matter how careful i was about swyping the correct word, it would come out wrong.
I checked "show complete trace" in swypes settings to see where i was messing up, and i noticed something much worse than my own mistakes.
Sometimes, my swype sensor goes nuts for no reason. You can see the trace jumping all over even though my finger is moving in a straight line. Heres a screenshot of just moving my finger left and right to see how the trace jumps everywhere:

Sometimes its worse, but it makes swyping very frustrating. Im wondering if this is a touchscreen issue, and not just confined to swype. I have had trouble in the past moving desktop icons around, and it seemed like something was just off.....
anyone else have this problem?

My screen seems to be 'off' every so often. Most often near the top quarter of my screen when in portrait. Even in landscape it's stays off. So I know it's not software.
Swype messed up for me too a couple times. More jagged than even what you posted. Though it cleared up after an evening or so. Though most times I use SwiftKey. So it could still be doing that.

thank god im not the only one. Im starting to think i might just have a bad phone. This did this to me on cm and stock. And yes ive had super jagged lines too, i just couldnt replicate it for the screenshot.
What other issues have u had with your device (battery), and is your screen abnormally dim?
Just that screen issue. I exchanged the phone once, only because of screen issues. Dead pixel and touch was off by a bit on the top and bottom of the screen.
I feel bad with all the issues you're having with yours. Mine has been great on nearly everything.
Hopefully you'll get yours figured out. I'm regularly on here as I'm recovering from surgery. Literally nothing else to do. Feel free to message me if you have a minor issue that isn't quite thread worthy. Gives me something to do.

swype sensor?
tell me, is it plugged in when it is messing up? or does it become worse when plugged in. i found that i had a defective charger and the "cursor" or where it was registering y input would jump erratically around the screen! eventually my phone died and i had o get it replaced.
Nope, plugged in or not it doesn't mess up anymore. Hopefully my phone won't die 0.o

Think I've finally got some issues straightened out. Battery life is now incredible (literally the best ive ever seen on a phone) running cm7, and havent had issues with swype since last night.
Will report back if it happens again/my phone craps out. Fingers crossed!
spoke too soon. got home and while typing while the phone was charging i got this:
it seemed really bad, but what ive noticed is sometimes its worse than others, so its not just good or bad, but varying degrees of bad.
Battery life seems fixed, but i cant learn to live with this either. I might try to swap it at radioshack before by 14 (or 30 days) is up.
im telling you, its the charger. im actually using my old moto charger an i havent had any problems
for me it does it when my phone is plugged in charging
agree with some now. Ive only noticed it when plugged in.
Is this rom specific, or does it happen to every rom? I sill have a month to exchange if i need to.
Im using the newest CM7 KANG build btw
This generally happens with non original chargers, feeding the wrong current and driving the touch sensor insane, is what I've heard... That explanation worked for me. No erratic behaviour with original charger, but crazy behaviour with the blackberry charger...

Can also occur with the original charger if plugged into noisy power.
I almost thought my Infuse was defective when I first got it because I tried to charge it using the factory charger on an inverter - that combo made the touchscreen VERY unhappy (as in, unusable, you couldn't even unlock the phone)
Factory charger in a real wall outlet was fine.
I've had the same kind of problem before when I was using my cousin's droid x charger(probably wasn't the best idea any way). It would cause swype to get really unhappy, even worse than yours. I have not experienced it with the stock charger but then again I rarely use my phone while it is plugged in.
hmmmm, well currently using my captivate wall charger/usb cord. Ill have to try it with the original when i get a chance to switch them.
They looked exactly the same to me.
If this does end up being the case, where can i buy a stock usb cord, if i need extras?
Mine does it while plugged in with the stock charger. its almost impossible to text sometimes while its plugged in.
anyone considering returning phone? Is this cause for concern? Do all phones do this?
My Atrix was even worse at that...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
It may be more of a function of how "clean" your wall power is.
As I said - mine works fine on the stock charger at home, but it basically froze the touchscreen when connecting the stock charger to an inverter.

I had the exact experience with my GSII. Took it out of the box on the way home with it, plugged it into an inverter while I fired it up the first time, and thought I had gotten a defective phone. Touching the screen to slide off the stock lockscreen it looked like I was shaking all over the place. Typing was impossible. The stock charger did the same. I also got no in call audio, but that could have been from the touch screen being freaked out by any slight touch. Unplugged the phone and it was perfectly fine.
I later found one of my old USB chargers did the same thing on wall power. I'm now using a USB lighter plug charger on the go and it works fine. The inverter I have is an older black and decker 400watt and it tests out to be as good as it ever was. Must be something in samsung phones that really dislikes anything but a nice clean sine wave power output.
Well i got my phone on Tuesday of this week, and to be honest im a bit disappointed ! i have used a Galaxy S2 for about 3 years its rooted with a custom ROM which i have found to be great. Firstly the Z2 screen is far too dark for my taste, outside i do find it hard to see the screen. and yes that's with auto brightness switched off ! i have the tap screen to wake phone switched on , sometimes im surprised how hard i actually have to tap it to switch on ! and it doesn't always respond ! in the txt message screen, i find the writing so fine its hard to see against the white background, i feel the letters should be more bold so they are easier to read. and yes i have made the txt large. i also find the phone a bit quiet, the volume of the ring tone and txt could do with being louder. and im surprised at the battery life too, not as good as my GS2, but yes i understand that i have an Apollo kernel installed which prolongs the battery. i have downloaded a task killer on to the phone to help prolong battery life, i will see what difference that makes over a few days. i know they are probably just minor things i am moaning about.
i don't know if i was expecting too much ... but i thought that in 3 years since i last changed my phone, things would of moved on an awful lot. just hope that one of the Devs works out a root and makes some custom roms, so i can have the phone how i want it . am i the only one that is a bit disappointed ?
Have you had a change to play with other new smartphones? How do you feel about them?
I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I find your claim about battery life a little hard to believe. The Z2 has WAY bigger battery and your S2's battery has had plenty of time to deteriorate. Again, not to be hostile but rather interested, could you post screenshots of battery stats after a normal day of use (both phones)?
Now of course I know hardly anything about custom roms that prolong battery life, but still...

Get rid of that Task Killer, it's the ultimate in battery draining apps. Closing and relaunching apps that could simply sit in RAM? Not helpful.
The Z2 has 3GB of RAM and a stamina mode that can be set to only allow specific apps to run when the screen is off, as well as control mobile data. You'll need another week to use it to its full potential.
I'm a fairly heavy user, streaming Spotify 5 hours a day, watching TV 3 hours a day, Netflix for 1hour, 4K recording, take on average 10 pics a day and Snapchat/Whatsapp 10 hours across my day and still get home with plenty of battery.
Even today, removed from charge at 6.30am, still off charge at 10.38pm and I've 27% left.
Screen on time is at 4hours 35minutes.
Not disappointed at all.

I have had Z2 in 2 days now. I have owned Galaxy Note 2 and Note 3 before and now Z2, i found Z2's screen brighter enough and i am actually happy with the screen. I hated the screen on Z1 though which i got for some days in between Note 2 and Note 3.
When it comes to 'Tap to wake' feature. Here's a proof how accurate it is on my Z2: http://youtu.be/qdQz42pDIao (I made the video right now with Note 3)
Strange you can't see letters when the text is large. I have text on small and i am so happy with it. See the pictures below. (You can change theme also).
I find all the new flagships since last year disappointing, and that's why I haven't upgrade from my SGS3 yet.
They all have three or four negatives.
Z2: too big (going from a SGS3 to a Z2 would be hard), overheating issue, 3 minute limit in 4K video, waterproof (it's a negative point for me because I don't want the USB charging port sealed. It's annoying if I have to charge the phone every day), you lose Sony DRM stuff if you unlock the bootloader and root, little development, delays, Z3 in second half of this year, no blocking mode (S5, M8, iPhone and Moto X and G have them and it's an essential feature), etc.
I wish it was 5.5 instead of 5.2...
The custom ROM stuff I quit after I got the Z1. Too much time spent on that with very few benefits. Personally, I rather have the magnetic charging cable.
This all comes to personal preferences. Sony like the other guys tries to appeal to as many as possible...

Good on Sony for sizing their battery, I owned Samsung S2, S4 and S3, the battery with never lasted more than 5 hour of screen on. where my Z1 easily last me more than 8 hours. A potential Z2 user when the phone can be rooted with locked bootloader. I still preferred 4.3 jelly beans compared to 4.4.2 kitKat. I will not using/buying any Samsung phone in future when they introduced knox which was useless to me.

This. I feel like this is one of the best features of this phone. I've heard so many complaints about annoying USB-port cover.
I have to call your bluff regarding the S2 battery life. It cannot compare at all to the Z2. The S2 battery was horrible for me, even though mine was also rooted and all. In fact, it was the only phone I ever have to buy an extended battery and it still barely lasted me a day. Note2 was so much better than the S2 and Z2 beats the Note2. So no way I am going to believe your S2 can return a better battery life than the Z2.
Battery is amazing, this was my second full charge cycle. Note my sim wasn't activated, so no cellular signal/connection. According to gsam, it used a fair amount of battery looking for signal, so should be better now.

I think you were expecting to much lol..... seriously tho i had samsungs before this, galaxy s then a galaxy note now z2, im loving this phone, ok its not perfect but its not far off and im far from dissapointed, in fact im rather pleased, i tried recording in 4k yesterday, purely because i knew it would make my phone overheat and crash after about 5 mins....... unlike most people i made it past 5 minutes (only by 3 seconds tho) and it actually saved the video...... think i got a good one lol.
Yeah the speakers aint the loudest but the noise cancelling headphones and the bluetooth speaker i got with it more than make up for that. Screen is fine outside, maybe the viewing angle aint as good as the samsungs but its good enough. (On the plus side i work nights so wouldnt be bothered if it was dim anyway)
Battery??????????? Ummmmm you're doing something wrong, for me battery life is much better than any phone ive had before.... ive experianced that with the 'tap to wake' function too, i wouldnt say ive ever had to tap it harder, just doesnt always wake straight away.
in the 2 years since i got my galaxy note i didnt feel the samsung phones were offering anything more, sure id get more ram, bigger processor n bigger screen, but thats about it, the xperia on the other hand seemed to offer far more for me, than the note or any samsung since the note 1.
tl:dr......... Not dissapointed at all.......... yet (still need to submerge it lol)

Do you not think smart phones have got to a point where technology has levelled out?
Higher res screens, better cameras, water proofing Etc? All this year's phones are much the same.
What separated them for me was build quality and screen size preference and being waterproof.

yeah i think you could be right ! okay they tweak them a bit here and there, this one has a few more pixels, and so on, but with the manufactures bringing out so say flagship phones every 6 months, they cant change drastically in that short time. but we keep buying them so i guess they will keep doing it .

It's annoying if I have to charge the phone every day), you lose Sony DRM stuff if you unlock the bootloader and root, little development, delays, Z3 in second half of this year, no blocking mode (S5, M8, iPhone and Moto X and G have them and it's an essential feature), etc.

cant agree, sorry. have gone from the S3 to the Z2 and I love the size of the phone (not everyone has small fingers or small hands lol)
The 4K video limit is on all 4k phones, but exactly where would you play your 4K film? unless you have been twisted into buying a 4K tv where there is not TV programmes for it, (just like 3D withering on the vine)
Charging point sealed? do what most of us are doing, buying magnetic charger no need to open the flap, and its waterproof which your s3 and mine were not
who these days puts DRM music on anything?
only thing I can agree is night time blocking is not very good, but Flight mode suffices for me
oh and the battery performance blows the S3 out of the water, two days out of a charge instead of 12 hours if lucky

I agree. I mean what else can they possibly put in a phone? Apart from the 64 bit step, I can't see where else they can possibly go. IMO phone, tablet and laptop have all converged; to a degree i.e. phone- mini tablet, tablet- mini laptop. I am actually surprised that phones haven't had upgradeable ram yet.
I am planning to have this phone from my Galaxy S4. Stuffs that tempt me are the stereo-speakers, the premium feel, the waterproofing and that IPS display. I always wanted to have Sony because of the design, but the TFT LCD display is the deal-breaker for me. Now comes Z2 with IPS. Also, I have been using my gf's Nexus 5 with the IPS display, the screen is awesome, brighter and crisp. So I think Z2 would be perfect for me.
And I believe Asian version Z2 has more compatibility with frequency bands than S4 (i9505). Did my research. Hurray!:victory:
Hi folks,
I bought a used SG2 for a friend recently but it’s having some issues…
As soon as the phone arrived I plugged into the PC and rooted it, along with flashing latest stock firmware.
That all went smoothly but as I was setting up Google etc I noticed it gets really hot both when charging and also when in use. It also discharges really quickly, even with all sync and data connections turned off. I’d read about stock JB not being the best so decided to install Resurrection Remix, however was still running hot and discharging far too quickly (also tried with no SD card, just to make sure it wasn’t a Media Scanner issue).
It also drains whilst charging too. For example, last night it got to 92% whilst powered off, then when I checked later it was at 88%... so I unplugged it before bed when I woke up it was completely dead. Now it doesn’t seem to charge at all. This is on original battery and a brand new one…. both won’t charge. I’ve tried different chargers, different cables, different USB sockets etc etc. Also tried leaving the battery out of a while, but all to no avail.
I have just ordered a new USB port from eBay, to see if there is there is a problem charging… but beyond that I guess I still need to figure out why it’s heating up so much evenw hen doing nothing. When it was still powering on, checking CPU Spy tells me it’s not running at max CPU or anything, and Wakelock Detector isn’t reporting anything abnormal.
The phone is currently plugged into my PC but I know it's not charging as it's cool to touch and pressing the power button doesn't display the battery icon.
We have another S2 in the family (rooted and running an old JB NeatROM) and whilst battery life isn’t the best, it can easily last most of the day on standby. It also doesn’t get hot like this one does.
Any ideas what might be causing the problem and how to fix it?
Cheers,
Lee
Take the charged battery from the other s2 in the house and put it in. Does it power up? Go into download mode? Recovery?

Thanks for the the suggestion.
I don't have the other S2 to hand unfortunately, plus as that one is working fine I wouldn't want to risk damaging it's battery in this faulty unit.
I've ordered an external battery charger too though, which should be here Friday.
The ext charger won't go to waste but I'd try the battery first as I don't think it will damage it. Terminal's look OK? Testing should be fine.

I'll probably get the ext charger before I have access to the other S2
The terminals look ok, nice and clean... and the USB socket looks a little grubby but no more so than my other phones.
Let's say for a moment that I do manage to get the batteries charged and the phone to power on again... do you have any idea what might be causing it to heat up so much? I did try setting governor to Conservative and set the max CPU to 1000MHz rather than 1200MHz, but it was still getting hot and draining quickly. Again, this is with nothing running in the background, no SD card and all 3G/Wifi etc turned off.
Thanks
Get it running and install BBS . better battery States. See from there what's running in the background.

Yeah mate, BBS is one of my "first install" apps along with Wakelock Detector, CPU Spy, Root Explorer and Titanium Backup
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to install it on this S2 before the problems started to appear.
Will report back once ext charger / new USB port arrives
I'm determined not to waste 60 quid on this thing, even if I have to spend a bit more to get it working!
Given that you've tried different firmware and ROMs I think you can rule out software issues. I *think* you're going down the right path by replacing the USB socket/board assembly...... Just make sure you're putting the correct version in......there are 4 non interchangeable versions of this part.....

Thanks again Keith, that is an excellent guide! Very informative.
The one pictured on eBay has GT-I9100 REV 2.2 R.B54 B on the board and looking at some other eBay and Amazon items, most appear to be selling Rev2.2 boards.

Here’s a Rev 1.5 though…
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Connector-C...400688905&sr=1-9&keywords=i9100+charging+port
..and a Rev 0.2
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vktech-Char...00688905&sr=1-21&keywords=i9100+charging+port
I notice some of the Rev2.2 boards have different alphanumeric numbers below the rev (like R.B54 on the one I bought), does that make a difference too?
Knowing my luck this model will have a Rev that no one sells! I’ll check tonight after work, so fingers crossed for a Rev2.2!
Cheers
I'm not entirely sure what the other numbers are.....my guess is they're probably batch numbers or something similar......
The important numbers to match are the "rev version" numbers.....
In my experience (having repaired this issue on 2 S2s) the rev2.3 is the most commonly used version....but hey....you might be lucky....

Well Sod's Law strikes, I have a Rev 2.3
I've messaged the seller to see if they have them, but have also ordered another from a different seller just in case.
Ah...bad luck fella.....it might have worked if you'd ordered a 2.4 to replace a 2.3.....newer designs *might possibly* have some backwards compatibility.... but I strongly doubt that older versions are forwards compatible.
And don't listen if the seller tries to tell you that the rev version doesn't matter.....most sellers aren't aware that there is more than one version of the board, and will probably base their reply on that incorrect information.......
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right
Replaced the circuit last night, was really easy. The phones are like Lego compared to HTC!
After rebuilding the phone it did initially recognise the charger, and started to charge the battery however after a while I noticed it had depleted again (charging whilst off). Charging was also extremely slow. It also wouldn't charge properly when switched on... would go up then down again.
The ext. charger also arrived so I've just popped in a fully charged battery to see how it lasts (took forever to charge that too!). Hopefully wont get hot and drain rapidly like before but we'll see.
I'll report back later, but at the moment I'm thinking about cutting my losses and selling it for spares or repair :crying:
The plug on the end of the charger *might* be worn too....this will also cause poor connection during charging......the whole micro USB plug/socket arrangement is (IMO) pathetically fragile for what these manufacturers want it to do......

Between home and work I have HTC, Samsung, LG and Sennheiser micro-USB cables, mostly new too... so probably safe to rule that out.
The phone has now been on battery for 4hrs 20min, and has only lost 8% battery in stand-by (WiFi on for the last hour or so too), so that's a step in the right direction! Temps seem normal as well.
Also, remember the Rev 2.2 I accidentally ordered before realising that variants existed? Well it turned up this afternoon and it's actually a Rev 2.4! Only difference I can see if the rubber thing is missing from the mic. Might give it a try later.
Thanks again for the help Keith!
No problems fella......
Putting the rev2.4 in shouldn't hurt.... as I said, I *think* there is backwards compatibility....
If that doesn't help, try going back to stock JB again. But this time root and debloat it. That is what I am running at the moment, and this is what I get from a full charge.....

If that doesn't help.....have you thought of flashing a CM ROM?...the most recent one I tried was Markox89's linaro/sabermod CM11.....good on battery and pretty much bug free.....

Cheers Keith, that's impressive stats!
Well the phone seems to have somehow fixed itself! Not only did the battery keep going all night, it allowed me to connect to the PC and transfer files, and also charged from the PC whilst the phone was powered on. Tested with the wallcharger and all seemed normal too. Maybe the batteries just needed the boost from the ext. charger to get them going since they were both completely drained?
I flashed Wanam JB but wasn't really keen on the super stock look and feel so then flashed NeatROM JB which is much better.
My friend actually decided he wants to keep his crappy old brick phone but at least now I can sell the S2 in good faith knowing that it works
I'd be tempted to keep it as a backup....I still have my first smartphone (galaxy W) safely stored away for just that purpose.
And from my point of view....I personally would be loathed to part with something that I'd invested time, effort and money into to bring back to life.....I know at the end of the day it's just a piece of tech and an asset, but for me, if I'd done what you've done....it'd be (I dunno) more personal than that......
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right
So...my problem is as follows :
ISSUE :
For 3 weeks or so my nexus 9 has been doing some weird stuff :
Randomly, the whole screen starts to flicker and the tablet becomes unresponsive, the only solution left for me being to force reboot by holding down the power button for several second. If I'm watching youtube or just playing some songs, it occasionally starts to make an unbearable noise (much like the old TVs do when don't have the tv-cable in them and you watch the "snowflakes") .
Sometimes, even if I reboot it after the flicker "episode", it would flicker the bootanimation and freeze, thus making me force reboot over and over, until I manage to boot up the tablet properly.
***If I'm lucky, the tablet would just freeze (and then self-reboot after a minute or so)...without the screen flickering
I have also included some pictures of the tablet while it had its "episode". Hope they're helpful !

POSSIBLE CAUSES :
1)Over-heating
2)Hardware failure
3)I suspect this is from the kernel, because this has been happening since I tried a no-force encryption kernel (using nexus toolkit), then changed to stock kernel (using nexus root toolkit again), then flashing the stock image (=system, boot, cache, vendor...etc) (using nexus root toolkit again), and then factory reset.
(Also....this issue with screen flickering was present in the early 10-15 nightlies of cm12 when my tablet's battery level was dropping below 15-20%)
SOFTWARE :
Stock ROM : 5.0.1
Build : LRX22C
Current Kernel : stock kernel(flashed with nexus root toolkit)
Root status : ROOTED - using Chainfire's SuperSu app along side with Busybox (free)
Bootloader Status : UNLOCKED (I never locked it back since when i firstly unlocked it)
RESOLVING POINT : THE QUESTIONS
1)Is it possible to resolve this issue with just a change of kernel ?
2)If i change ROMs do i have at least a chance that the flickering won't happen ?
3)If it's a hardware failure, can it be easily resolved or do i need to send back the tablet for repairs/replacement ?
I'll wait for your responses !
Thanks in advance !
If it were me, I would try putting everything completely back to stock (as in the way it came out of the box) and doing a factory reset to see if that fixes all your issues. If it still persists, I would exchange the unit. If not, you can go ahead and unlock and root again after you're satisfied the issue has cleared up.
Thanks for the reply !
I will try that this weekend since i don't have a lot time right now and probably later I'll flash CyanogenMod. I noticed that it flickers only when it gets hot...and if I power it down a little and let it cool...the issue is temporary resolve. I hope things will get better with the 5.1 update.
Until then...any other replies are welcomed and appreciated.

It's looks like you have a few cracks or marks on your screen. YMMV on getting google or HTC to replace it with that on it.

No...luckily it's my tempered glass that has the cracks. My main issue is that I bought this tablet with Amazon in December, not directly from Google or HTC
Mine has done this a couple times and got really bad yesterday freezing, garbled, and rebooting over and over. I went back stock, had been on elementalX (not saying it was the kernel), and have put it through the paces with benchmarks and its been fine so far but I'm still afraid of it. First sign of issues and its off to HTC, amazon purchase as well. I think heat/hardware issue most likely.
I had the screen flickering as well, right out of the box. If memory serves me right, I turned off auto brightness and haven't had flickering since. I am completely stock however. Hope that helps.
I noted that it usually flickered when the battery got under 15-16%...Then, I forced reboot, followed by the powering off of the tablet (from fastboot mode). Finally, I put the N9 to charge (without booting it up).
I tried to turn off the auto-brightness....I hope it will solve the issue, though I doubt it.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
So...after doing a full factory reset and after flashing the images manually, the issue still persisted (though, it was in a reasonable ammount)
I have discovered that if I put the tablet to charge and force reboot it, the issue is fixed as long as it's charging.
Anyways, now I have done a factory reset again and installed CyanogenMod and Gapps. I'll get back with the results after 24h of use. Wish me luck !
Something similar happened to me with the tablet, in my case it is a 16GB WiFi HTC Nexus September and since I have tried two one based on AOSP 5.0.2 (Simple ROM) with KernelMOD ElementalX and the other based on 5.1 (Lollipopalooza) with Kernel Stock and both happened to me that problem, and I know that
1) It is not by temperature as it passes this on a NORMAL temperature range around 58 degrees Celsius in the CPU ..
2) Not the Kernel as such these two compilations or any modification to why I tried that detail.
Now this in my Tablet has a competition and it happens when in a level of less than 50% charged battery, and always happens when the game is, digase Asphalt 8 Airborne or Clash of Clans, is played if more above that level HAPPENS no charge, sometimes at 20% load vecez other 40% is in order, so I think to do is try a CustomROM CM12 is based on the AICP and look as if no re comportao the stock of Google and look if it happens, if it happens again I hope the 5.1 official Google thing that I think is a hardware problem promptly which can only guarantee remeasure, so will give you time to Google it pleases removing the Firmware 5.1 and the amount and if you stop not happen then, because I feel TERRIBLE guarantee that HTC and Google, as costs provide a team with such problems, and it should be emphasized that BEFORE not happened to me, it came to pass after almost 7 MONTHS ..

Those are exactly the circumstances in which my tablet flickers !!!!
Anyways,...everybody just listen and hope this solves your problems too !
The main story :
I installer cm12...and it still flickered....so as a final resolution, I took off the back-cover.
During the removal, I made sure that the camera won't go off, BUT the important thing is that I accidentally unplugged a little-little cable found on the right upside of the tablet (when facing screen down = in the other corner from where the camera is found AND the tablet was held in portrait)
So...after re-plugging that tiny cable back on its port (I think that's what that little whole was named) and playing a little bit with the copper thingy..... I turned on the tablet (without the cover being attached) and it lit up with no problems or whatsoever. After that, I power it off (just to avoid any sort of short-circuit damages ) and put the back-cover.
I have to mention that I heard some sort of click in the up-center of the tablet while I was pressing it to make sure everything was reattached as initially (I think that maybe was the NFC antenna)
Finally, I powered the tablet on....and after charging it to 100% and installing all my apps, I ran Antutu benchmark just to make sure everything was ok. Surprisingly, it passed on without even the slightest sign of flickering.
To sum up : I think the problem was the NFC antenna, somehow interfering with the tablet OR it was that little cable I disconnected, but then reconnected back on.
Now, it's been 7-9 hours and no sign of flickering yet. I really hope this solved my problems as well as yours too.
I'll get back with the results of this "fix" after 24-48h, just to confirm that everything is Ok !

Please do so ! And for the record, my N9 had the same symptoms !
Well I've been back on stock for a week and all was going well, but I came home today to the boot lock screen. It had froze and rebooted at some point all on its own. It also had a lot of trouble booting back up. Slow, laggy, and proceeded to reboot 3-5 more times before ever getting back in to the home screen past the initial boot lock screen. At this point I have no idea what the problem could be (bad storage?) but its definitely a hardware issue and I will be talking to HTC about replacement soon.

So..., the issue still persists, ALTHOUGH it is much more manageable on CM than on stock ROM. I think I'll wipe the device and try again with the back-cover, since that sort of settled things down a little.

Unfortunately not. I'm waiting for @juandiegofx to reply back to this thread and tell us if he could find something with logcat. I'll try logcat too during this weekend. Maybe I'll find something. I really hope it's not a big hardware issue (apparently, all the tracks lead to some sort of hardware problems).

Mate, I have not flashing to the original firmware Nexus 9 or any CM12, because I been trying to SimpleAOSP yet, have you conrruencias see and then as now not returned happen to me, I have not seen reason but as I said always happens when I have less than 50% of battery and has started some relatively heavy title, I put my son play and as active logcat to identify hardware ... but everything points, discupa not report me before.
>3 days without flickering !!!
I took off the backcover again...played a litiile with thr battery cable this time.....and that's really all i did. Also I stayed on CyanogenMod and dirty flashed almost every nightly.
To sum up, my issue seems resolved. I'll get back here if something goes wrong

Hello guys,
I am coming from a Note 4 and so far I've been enjoying the phone, it feels smoother most of the times, and I discarded the Note 5 becuase what I wanted the most for my next phone was durable design that does not need a case for normal drops and removabe battery, however I am facing some problems that I am not sure if they are normal or if I got a defective unit:
First problem: bleeding in second screen, I've been reading on this forum a lot and this is not uncommon, however, there are people who don't have the problem and people who have them but it is not noticeable. Mine is very noticeable especially with white notifications and it is annoying. (please see the attached pictures and let me know if you think is normal or too much).

Second problem, I have read that very few people have it, this started since new, after about 5 factory resets and continued after root, when I unlock the phone or when I go back to the home screen I see a "loading" white box in the middle for about half a second and then the homescreen appears. I know this could be solved by using nova or another launcher but why most of the people don't have this problem and I do? I would like to be able to use LG launcher instead of nova.
Third problem, I believe this is probably normal for everyone, when I turn on the flashlight and shake the phone close to my ear I can hear something loos inside the phone, but if I turn off the flashlight, everything is good and I don't hear anything when I shake the phone. I do not have any problem with this, it does not bother me or anything, I just want to ask you guys if it is normal.
I do not want to comment on the battery life because I have 3 days with the phone, but I hope it gets better because I am only getting about 2.5 hours of SOT for a full charge and less than a day of usage, I don't think is normal but I hope it gets better. (I restored and donwloaded everything the first day and yesterday and today has been normal usage, just browsing, texting and watching some videos).
Last problem is that the phone becomes warm even from very light use. My roomate has an LG G4 with the same processor and he does not have this problem or the problem of the loading box when returning to the homescreen, I would not say it is overtheating, but I don't play games or anything like that, I just use whatsapp, messenger, outlook, youtube, chrome, etc. and it becomes warm after a few minutes. My old Note 4 never got warm either, it was always at about the same temperature to the touch wheter I was using it or not.
So do you guys think all these problems are normal or I got a defective unit and I should request an exchange? I bought the phone at T-Mobile.
Thank you in advance!
The noise you hear is most likely due to OIS from the camera.

Thanks! I figured out that one should be normal.
Do you have a V10? do you have any of the other issues?
If you are uncomfortable with it just go exchange it. Don't "stick it out" if you are unsure and could get worse after your exchange period.

Thanks for replying, I wanted to check how common these problems are because some people said the the second screen bleeding was even worse when they exchanged it.
Also, I already unlocked the bootloader installed TWRP and rooted it and I do not know how difficult it is to revert it back to stock so I can exchange it at the store without problems.
I think I'm going to exchange mine.. I am having the loading problem too(even after a few resets), also smart notice always starts like it was the first time after every reboot. Had to delete the initial card form from the system. I have light bleed, but feel I might take a chance of getting a worse one of I exchange it(only reason I haven't). As the final day approaches though, I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it.
So i swapped my phone due to the bluetooth not working right, which i now know is not due to hardware.... at any rate i did have that loading screen on my first one all the time and now after the swap i haven't noticed it but a few times. Id swap it but it sounds like a pain in the ass to go back to stock so gl with that part. P.S. After having two with similar screen bleed i noticed a friend who has it had little to none. I got to thinking maybe it was because she has a tempered screen protector? Maybe the glass cuts down on being able to notice it? Something to consider since you will have it on most if not all lgv10s.

Rooted unlocked and twrp.. I ordered it at T-Mobile online on pre release day. I'll flash the return to stock files, then hook.it up to adb and relock the BL and send it off. Assuming the new one they overnight me is better.

I guess I have an idea of how to flahs stock files and relock BL with abd but sorry if it's too much to ask but do you know where can I get the stock files and if there is a tutorial or something similar with the commands to safely relock the BL?
Thanks!

When you had the loading box all the time did you have any of the other issues like getting it warm for very light use or terrible battery life?
Some things will be fixed in updates, like the screen loading and smart notice stuff(I hope). I emailed Lg through quick help about the second screen dimming issue asking them to consider allowing it to have it's own adjustment setting and they said they thought it was a great idea and would consider it in future updates.. Grain of salt I know.. The bleeding is terrible though. If I hold it at an angle I can damn near see the led itself with only second screen on when on full brightness. Gonna see what the next one looks like and if it's still no bueno I'll probably send that back too.

I hope they get fixed but it is still weird that not all the phones have the problem of showing the loading box and getting warm.
How are you going to send it back if you do? Do you have any idea of where can I start looking regarding my questions of my previous post.

When I had my first one i took it back within 24 hours but i did think the battery sucked. However i was doing a lot of stuff and downloading apps so take that with a grain of salt. Also didn't really notice it being warm but it could have been that stuff doesn't bother me.
I'm not a fan of the screen bleeding myself.. I too have a T-mobile v10 and am unsure if they will even exchange the device if it has screen bleed..is that consider a none defect to lg or T-mobile?

Just processed mine for backlight bleed.. As far as the home screen loading thing.. I realized that when you clear dalvik in twrp or root cleaner it only clears it on I'm assuming downloaded apps. When I installed xposed today it cleared the entire dalvik and I no longer have the loading problem anymore.
@Swizzle82 did you contact customer Care or did you return to the store

Your photos don't seem to be showing up anymore. Would you mind uploading them again? I'd really like to compare them to my light bleeding as I'm considering exchanging my unit. It really messes with my user experience in the evenings.
the bleeding doesn't bother me that much. What really annoys the heck outta me is the Bluetooth Audio skipping/stuttering, and the whole fingerprint issue with case.
The #1 is common because the LED is right on the left of the "banner" like old school digital watch (a bulb is one one side of the screen).
The rest I think you should return for exchange.
