[Q] Port Recovery without Source code. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like in thread - it is possible? If yes, tell me how. :s
EDIT: I dont have MTK device.

bump

Please, be more precise - you will port CWM (or any other recovery) without it's source code or without device source code?
If the second option - http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-clockworkmod-recovery-to-a-new-device

i do not have computer for build CWM from source, and i do not have device source code. I want port CWM using notepad++, copy paste files etc using Image Kitchen. It is possible?

Send me your boot.img and I will build it with the following guide http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-clockworkmod-recovery-to-a-new-device
E: You should also look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36162245&postcount=2
It may be impossible to port without it.

here is my boot img

can you port for my device too?
screen resolution 5 inches, 1920x1080
ram 2gb
cpu mtk6754, also 16mb is the max size for the recovery... i would be good with cwm but if possible twrp then or maybe both (so i can test and see if they both work or maybe only 1 will work...)

I am really sorry but I don't have Linux installed at the moment

I have a doubt. If I have two devices (Both using MT6753) with all same hardware but have different Display Resolution(1 with Full HD display (1080p) & other with HD Display) & the HD display device has android M available but full HD one does not, what & where should I make the change in the Marshmallow rom in the HD device to make it work with my Full HD device?
I did flash that rom in the fhd device. The OS is booting up but without any display. Even touch is working as I can hear the touch tone,

[Q] Hacking THBK1-10 (getting root)

Hello,
THBK1-10 is a cheap dual system (Android 4.2.2 /Windows 8.1) tablet based on Bay Trail (Intel Atom Z3740D). More details http://www.thomsoncomputing.eu/dualboot.html
I'm trying to hack it, and especially get root and use non-signed zip in recovery. Basically i'm stuck at theses points, and i'm requesting directions to continue the work.
I have posted in W8 section, but obviously, this is no longer the place
General
------------
* i can use a work-around to write system (/system, /data) partitions
* i can flash signed updates via recovery
* google apps are working flawesly. Only thing is to keep original files (stock keyboard and layout)
-> i would like to flash non-signed zip via recovery, but i guess i have to build a custom recovery, or can i exploit something else ?
Root:
-------
* no auto root is working (z4root, towelRoot). Regarding towelRoot, i tryed each 8 common parameters, and i don't really know how to do others. I have also heard this is only working in 4.4.2+
* pushing su is not working. When i'm launching it, let's say from terminal, i have a code 255 return (-1). Tested with both arm and x86 version (i'm still wondering why arm su is also returning -1, i would have expect a non valid binary. Or perhaps my x86 version is bad ?
-> i'm still trying to dig this issue, and idea on how i could do ? i believe running SU was enough... but it seems not. Any idea ?
Many thanks !
Bump. the way it is booting is based on ramdisk images (one for normal android boot, one for android recovery).
I have acces to theses img, and i can, with hexedit (perhaps mounting them directly at a filesystem), view the whole init sequence.
My question is : what triggers the root invalidation ? AFAIK, everything is done as root (mounting FS, updating permissions, etc....). Basically i can't really figure how it is handled.
Thank you !
Solved !

Woaw ! I'm very happy to see that somebody tried and succeed to root the THBK1 ! Please can you share your method in a tutorial when you'll have time ?
Hello, yes !
I'm actually writing a GAPPS tuto, which is intensively tested by Zeksaine. Root will be added, as this is only a simple step inside the whole process.
This is a bit technical (read boring), but it worths the try. My TODO list is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799404 , and while i'll take a little break, i hope soon to have custom recovery allowing you to directly flash gapps or supersu.
Yes ! I confirm ! Graveen has installed GAPPS on Thomoson THBK1 / Danew Dualboot tablet with sucess ! I'm not familiarised with linux environnement and realize it, but it requires some knowledges of linux command (coLinux especially)
Graveen is the only one users identified that it can put GAPPS on android environnement concerning this tablet.
Big thanks to him !

I own a Cube U100GT and it's one of the many Chinese brothers of your THBK1-10. But mine came only with W 8.1.
I just start looking for a dual boot solution and I'm happy to know that it's is possible.
I don't need root for while, just play some games and apps.
So the original Android "ROM" of the tablet can do the job.
My version have 64Gb SSD and I've already resize the Win partition to make room for a new system.
Where can I look for a dual boot tuto and find this Android version?
Heya, can you post your partition list ?
What is the bios of your tablet ? Can you wire an USB keyboard to see this at boot ?
Basically, they effectively seems identical.
For partial update, you can find one here: http://www.danew.com/support-pilotes-manuels.php?type=218&produit=219 but it relies on existing android partitions i still have not dumped.
Android-x86 could worth a try also, although i doubt you will have all drivers (touch, gyro, etc..)

The partition list is the standard for a windows installation (but no windows image on the end):
1: 300 Mb (Windows RE)
2: 100 Mb (System)
3: The rest (Windows). My SSD is 64Gb.
My tablet already comes with a dedicated keyboard cover, so I have full access to to UEFI Bios.
There's a lot of numbers:
Aptio Setup Utility Version 2.16.1242
Vendor - AMI
Core Version - 5.008
Project Version - 3BAGR 0.03
EC FW Version - 201401101A
Intel GOP driver - 7.0.1029
Sec RC Version - 00.05.00.00
TXE FW Version - 01.00.02.1060
I found the drivers pack for windows 8 and so I could install my PT-BR edition of W81. And reserve 20Gb at the end for another OS.
It's my first UEFI machine and I'm completely lost. There's a lot of options and I can't understand a quarter of that.
On the Tabletrepublic forum someone said that my bios recuse everything except a Windows pendrive. If is true, there's no way to put Android but changing/patching the UEFI.
Android x86 is for desktops right? And the Intel site, can I find Android images there?
Thank you. What i'll do is to check if my bios is identical to yours, because there are effectively numerous options. Then, i could finsh to dump my android partitions and let you play with them.
Honestly, the trick is the OS selection system, which is bring by the EFI bootloader (and certainly a dedicated partition). Once selection is done, another EFI bootloader (windows only) is called.

[unofficial][linux3.4][native][tarchive]ArchLinuxARM release for Nexus 10

This is not an Android project so I don't feel that posting it in the Android Development forum would be appropriate.
ArchLinuxARM for the manta (Samsung/Google Nexus 10) - Native Boot
Working:
Wi-Fi (with NetworkManager)
Audio (requires manual intervention)
Not Working:
Bluetooth
2D & 3D Accelerated Graphics
Installation (to a subfolder of the /data partition)
You will need a Terminal Emulator or ADB Shell to install.
This assumes that arch_manta_20141210_root.tar.gz is in the root of your internal storage (/data/media/0).
Code:
su
mkdir /data/local/arch
tar -C /data/local/arch -xpzvf /data/media/0/arch_manta_20141210_root.tar.gz
Booting
Since there is no workable multiboot solution for the Nexus 10 yet, you can take one of two routes to boot this thing:
Option 1: Flash the arch_boot.img to either the recovery or the boot partition of the internal flash chip. Due to risk of BRICKING if you flash to the wrong partition, I will not provide instructions here. I might make a flashable zip later on. Note that this removes access to Android.
Option 2: Use Fastboot to tethered boot the provided kernel from another computer where it is installed:
Code:
fastboot boot boot_arch_manta.img
Logging in
The username is "arch" and the password is "archlinux". Change the password ASAP.
For root, the username is "root" and the password is also "root". CHANGE THE PASSWORD ASAP!
You'll probably want to enable the On-Screen Keyboard (onboard) and set your Session to "MATE" up in the top right corner.
To make audio work after booting and logging in, run "fix_audio.sh" in a terminal.
Read Me
If you WIPE DATA, it will also WIPE OUT THIS PORT, all its applications, and any files you may have stored within it!

Free space required?
Started with 5GB+ before downloading the 1.5 tar.gz, thought it will be enough but I'm supposed it wasn't cuz I'm getting "No space left in the device" although I still have 537MB free left.
Hmm, shouldn't do that. The archive itself is 4,060 MB uncompressed according to gzip -l.
Try booting it anyway, maybe? Also, perhaps I uploaded a truncated archive. I'll have to check.
Edit: Wait, you'd need upwards of 5.5 GB free to have both the archive and the extracted files on /data.
So, I deleted my nandroid backup and was able to install it. Actually it runs very well, I think even better than when ubuntu was being officially developed by canonical for the nexus 7. Of course it was easier to run because of the MultiRom solution, always wonder why Nexus 10 it's not supported, like Nexus 4, 5, 7 and even som non-nexus devices.

I don't know, honestly. After I'm done with the HD2 flash-image port of this, I'm looking at porting kexec hardboot from a random old Epic 4G kernel to my kernel_manta on github, because that's the only ready-made Exynos hardboot patch I can find through google. Then, we could boot this with a script similar to the Galaxy S III LTE port, and someone could theoretically port MultiROM, though that someone is probably not going to be me.
Thank you, Castwilliam! It run good , with some gitch on screen, but better than ubuntu phone devReview .
But when I run pacman -Syu ( update packages), reboot and it become blackscreen, try many taps in middle touch screen, intensity light of screen is something change. What wrong when update packages in pacman ?_?.
Is the booting option 2 temporary? Can I just turn off nexus and boot back to android? Can I unplug the nexus from PC while running linux?
I have no idea what I am doing here (and you probably dislike dealing with noobs flooding forums with questions right? :silly: )

Hello,
This is awesome work! It booted properly, connected to a network, and programs run just fine. But as the tablet's pixel density is pretty high, it isn't too comfortable to use. I tried adding a new resolution using xrandr, but it throws something along the lines of "failed to get gamma size for display default". I've tried googling for it, but nothing worked. What can I do to resolve this?
Thanks,

[Q] Lenovo Note 8 (A936) Golden Warrior ROM

Hi !
Just picked up this big phone from Aliexpress and I want to put a custom ROM on it (preferrably Lollipop). I've searched the forums but can not find anyone that is doing anything related to this phone.. The specs are as below:
Processor - Octa-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53, Mediatek MT6752
GPU: Mali-T760
RAM: 2 GB
Internal Memory: 8 GB
It seems there are a couple of other models running on this processor (HTC Desire 626, 526G, 820s)...
Anyone working on anything related to this phone that I could try out ?
Kind rgds

There's only one stock rom for this model now and I think it's for variant with 1GB RAM. It can be found on n e e d r o m . com
No custom roms yet.

No lollipop yet. But they have Flyme OS from Meizu as well as some other stuff in the link below. Be warned that most of the ROMS there are for the 1GB RAM version. And the whole forum is in Chinese. Have fun.

Hi Pavillo, all,
any luck with getting the 2g ROM?
I just received the device yesterday - it came somehow rooted with tons of CN bloatware, while MTK droid tools 2.5.3 was unable to access the root shell to make a backup. After few tweaks I made the su working (reinstate the superuser using the chanfire SuperSU + adbd insecure shell v2.0, but I'm not able to Create scatter file (button greyed out, probably unknown to the tool), what I see on the list is within attached jpg. Backup is I believe incomplete - console log>

I'm happy to create the dump, however seems I'm not savvy enough to prepare it using mtk droid tools.
I contacted the supplier to provide stock rom for this device, because with mine I'm not sure it wasn't somehow modified.

Edit:
I checked the scatter file against my partinfo and it seems to fit my 2g ram / 8g rom version!
Created a dd backup of my partitions to get the courage to replace the system partition from your dump - and it worked!
However the dump is CN version (no google play, no root, ton of bloatware) so I reverted successfully back to my original version..
I found this on the web, it's in three parts, but I was a bit loathed to fulfill the advert criteria before downloading it, so it's untested. I did message the dev to check it was dual SIM and he answered so it sounds legit. Would be good if someone could download the rom, combine the three parts and post it here?

Hi, imho this is a fake to earn money using the surveys, the whole page looks weird. I cross-checked the CN forum bbs.ydss.cn/forum-lenovo_note8-1.html and there is no lollipop rom, and I guess these guys are in front of the ROW.
Yeah, I was suspicious myself, could definitely be fake but I was very surprised to get a reply from the dev when I emailed him to ask if it would support dual SIM. That said I wasn't brave enough to fill in the ads! I'm just hoping someone can access those downloads without the ads.

Hi, use translate function in google chrome as I did . I managed myself to reply to some of the topics - just a single reply enables the download link- so ultimately got to the download; usually it points somewhere to pan.baidu.com ... but honestly not too much of a use unless we will get a recovery in other than CN language. I've posted the request for cwm also in that forum. However I suspect these ROMs will be CN only, while we need ROW version.

Hi all,
just to share my enthusiasm - I just got my Lenovo A936 (2g RAM/8g ROM) loaded with EN CWM recovery.
Prereq is rooted device (mine came rooted, I just switched the su app with my favorite SuperSU from chainfire) and adb (e.g. adb-setup-1.4.2.exe, could be found on xda forum).
Afterwards I used PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery executable v7 - it requested only to provide boot.img and recovery.img from my device that I created simply by adb & dd command.
After completing the setup automatically by the executable, voilla it rebooted into EN CWM recovery. Very simple!
I can dump my recovery and boot.img that might be of a good use to others.
Credit goes to yuweng!

A ton of this info is coming from freaktab.com and some other russian/german sites that ive found. Including the chinagadgets.com updates page for the m8 boxes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
:::::::::::The links::::::::::::
Root:
Rooting these boxes seems to be incredibly simple. They are either prerooted or can be done easily.
Kingoroot app , and kingo superuser app got me enough access to Install img twrp via Rashr app all avalible via the playstore. As well as you can use the updater app to install roms in zip format using the stock recovery without twrp but backups are important! Theres a few recoveries out there for our boxes. Some work for the clones, some dont.
You need to verify if you have the s812 chipset or not.
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
:HOW TO ENTER RECOVERY MODE:
To enter the recovery stock or not, there are multiple methods.
Using a toothpick and pushing the reset button inside the AV port ( Harder/nonrooted )
1.) At the bottom of the AV jack hole is the reset button.
Using a tooth pick hold this button in. You know you have pressed it if you feel the click.
2.) Now plug in the power cord.
3.) While holding the reset button down, wait until you see the logo and you can then release the reset button.
done: The recovery menu should now be shown and the device should update.
ALT For rooted devices:
1.) Install romtoolbox lite and Give romtoolbox superuser permissions
2.) Use the rebooter function inside the app to enter recovery mode. (easier)
To install the custom recovery I used [Root] Rashr - Flashingtool app to install the custom TWRP recovery, this also can be used to install the image files. The images are only the recovery, or boot images for the device. Im assuming here that these images should match the firmware version you are on. IE: 4.4 needs the 4.4 boot/recovery not the 5.1 . The Zips contain the correct boot images for the roms and will flash everything in one shot. The images are a seperate source for modding as well as using the usb flash tool or the apps i suggested. The files came prezipped together to be used with the pre installed updater program on most boxes, Its alot lighter to only update what you need.

Identifying the model is good, but identification of your chipset is the important part. These boxes are heavily clones and sold as whatever the distributor said it was. And a lot of times it wasnt what you thought it was.
Rkxxxxx S8xxxxx Txxxxxx Etc is how you will be locating the correct firmwares for your devices. Im hoping that in the future we can go cross platform/chipset by including the correct boot.img and xml/build.prop files for the right chips and the software will be universal (ish)
See post #2 for Universal rom Flash.
Highly suggest only using TWRP and backing up to your external SD.
the build.prop and the boot.img are both twrp flashable files.
these also can be used to put your stock boot.img or build.prop after flashing a universal softwear rom to gain all
your device specifics back. the custom one is based on m8s/+ models and was off a 16gb device so both 8/16 can flash.
you can alos use the app zipme to make your own flashable zips. great for backing up certain files.
remote.config is another one thats important to backup from your original build the device shipped with!
how to adjust twrp screeen size
screen size is to big on my tv i cant navigate some keys on my usb keyboard,, imean i cant navigate twrp properly using my navigation keys on my wireless key board...pls help thanks
Hey man first of all big thanks for the THREAD, is very hard to find some information about all of this you have no idea how this thread can help us with these android TV devices (F**** smart TV's)
So i have a S82 Plus, with the android 5.1.1, kernel 3.10.33, fimrware 101L1 and running silk and smooth the only problem for me is the remote controler that i bought... doesn't work well some keys and functions just dont work!! and i don't know why..
And i was thinking maybe i just the ROM because if i put to work with my computer works fine, if i put it with my S4 works well too...
So i was thinking is there any 6.0 rom for this device?? Would you recommend another one to try??
My Remote is the measy rc12-b5
Big thanks again for the help!!
nice i finally found this thread all i really want is to make it like a basic tablet with out the crap. Where can i learn how to dump a new box and change it to work like a tablet. btw the game myvegas doesnt work
Hi Team DevDigitel thanks for your work
I think this will be a great place for M8s owners .
My Box is a M8S now running this 5.1 rom (M8S(n200c)_to_M8S+ 5.1 20151022-aml_upgrade_package) it works fine only no WIFI and no remote seams that only 2 of the 4 cpu cores are working non rooted
download (M8S(n200c)_to_M8S+ 5.1 20151022-aml_upgrade_package) here https://mega.nz/#!ZUxQSJQK!nt8g1nGV6jdTe3mZFa3_aXPY4UcXTaLQuUIGK-c-jbg
Threre is also a android 4.4 rom what is working okay pre rooted (M8S_aml_upgrade_package_16.0_20160229)
download https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NYLg8trzWdYl82UlpteHppOU0/view
I cant get my box into recovery whit the sd card toothpick method
I only can flash img whit usb burningtool
Goal to get a fully working 5.1 rom whit working wifi and remote in img because my M8S cant get into recovery whit SD card toothpick method
it also be nice to have root so i can boot in recovery
I hope that this becomes a place to collect and develop M8, M8S M8S+ roms
I recently bought m8s+ and wondering if we can get latest 6.0 firmware on this tv box btw it came with 5.1 Lollipop.
I second that also make sure the MyVegas app works from google play. It didnt with the last firmware
Hi i want know how i can unpack and repack stock rom? I want change the stock apk with other ones! Otherwise there is another method?
All the tools create an incompatible system.transfer.list (not for android lollipop 5.1.1!) because the version that will be created is 1 but the original version of 5.1.1 is 2!
And so when i flash a new rom i get this error: unexpected transfer list version [1 ]
I tried to change version with notepad++ and the error no longer appears but the firmware cannot be flashed because the installation starts but doesn't complete!
Please help me

I just want to say thank you for your big effort on making these ROMS! :good:
Like my username indicates, I finally got my troublesome M8S box working flawlessly with Android Lollipop, in which your Universal ROM was the key. I documented my steps in another related thread.

i also want custom rom for the swipe elite sense.
Please let me know how did you root it . I am having trouble with this phone . It is automatically installing a Malware even in safe mode. I think the stock ROM is intentionally infected by the company. The software update application provided by the company is also exhibiting strange behaviour. So I want to root it and install a custom ROM. Kindly reply

LineageOS
Any hope for a LineageOS for Swipe sense ?
Hi
I also have a swipe elite sense and the company firmware is coming with inbuilt adware. Please anyone who has knowledge to make custom ROMs please make a good custom rom for the phone. People who have rooted, even if you install super su or magisc and you can grant access to root for apps like es it won't allow you to delete anything from root folder. That means rooting is not working. Since twrp is working I think you can flash custom rom via twrp. So anyone please develop a custom rom for swipe elite sense.
Installing twrp is easy. Download the twrp image file from the post twrp for swipe elite sense and enabe USB debugging. Then open command prompt in adb folder and reboot to fastboot and ulock bootloader. After that flash the twrp image. It will work.
Thanks in advance
Same Problem
Kindly Help me , how we recover from this malware.?
