I was recently given an LG Optimus L9 P769BK and decided to try and unlock the bootloader and root it. Most of the guides (such as: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584997) suggest flashing to V10G_00 first before flashing to the EU V20B_00. I was able to flash to V10G (from V20H that was already on the phone using "LG Flash Tool 2014") but now, no matter what tool I use, I am unable to get ANY ROM to flash to the phone.
Methods/Tools used and the results:
1)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
1a)Result: The software that is launched in Step 10 crashes before doing any updating
2)http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-l9/general/p765-unbrick-using-lg-flash-tool-2014-t2950433
2a) Using CDMA + Diag or Emergency: Goes to 10% of SW Update then fails with an error saying to remove the battery and try again. Doing this does not resolve the problem
2b) Using 3GQCT + Diag or Emergency: Can not connect to phone. Reseating the connection and power cycling the phone does not resolve this.
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748384
3a)Using the LGP769_20121004_LGFLASHv1350.dll and a bin from V20B_00 it freezes around 570 seconds with a write error. The phone no longer boots outside of SW Update Mode.
The phone will now only boot into SW Update mode.
System:
OS: Windows 8.1 64bit
Drivers: LGUnitedMobileDriver_S52MAN314AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.14.1
Any thoughts on what to do next?
UPDATE: The LG Flash Tool mentioned in 3) no longer sees the phone. After following the steps mentioned in the guide again
UPDATE2: Reinstalled the drivers. Method 1) still crashes, 2) same results, 3) still not "seeing" the phone when connected.
UPDATE3: (using Win 7 machine). Method 2) gives an odd "Can not connect to server error" when tried. Method 3) gives a write error on "Failed to Write OMAP" (ill get the exact line in a minute)
UPDATE4: Ignoring the error (aka NOT clicking the box) from Method 2) allowed the phone to flash with no problem
Only the very first v10a had an unlockable bootloader. And the first couple of v20ies or all of them. I unlocked and rooted with v20c, later versions could have locked Bls.
My phone actually has an encrypted bootloader so no ROM will work
I have no soldering skills so I ordered a 910k cable and will do the unlock with it.

Despite all efforts I can't unlock bootloader on my p760. After sending adb reboot oem-unlock command the phone reboots normally. I tried almost all the ideas I've found on xda - flashed different versions of v20b, v20c, (europe open and country-specific) even tried v20a india for p765 - no luck, drivers are installed ok, i can enter fastboot mode and send commands (reflashed JB xloader an uboot), i rooted the phone and tried to unlock bootloader via terminal emulator - still simple reboot. As described on the threads I waited 30 mins, 1 hr, even 8 hrs before sending adb reboot oem-unlock - no effect
I'm really out of ideas :crying: Maybe my bootloader is permanently locked? Is there a way to find it out?
Since it's possible to enter fastboot is there any other way to unlock the phone or install the custom rom with locked bl?

Try flashing ics kdz, do a factory reset, flash jb europe open see if you can unlock it
I downgraded to v10a ics -> factory reset -> hard reset (to be sure -> flashed v20b europe open .... still oem-unlock results in regular reboot...
I have succeeded after a factory reset and sleeping for one night. You may try to flash EU open v20c and wait with data connected.
I tried that already ... the phone sleeped overnight on v20b and v20c and after i tried to send oem-unlock... nothing happened.
I don't know if it's proper behaviour- after sending adb reboot oem-unlock in the device manager appears TI Board/OMAP4430 only for 1 second and phone reboots normally (just like connecting the phone to usb without battery but TI Board apears only once)
After flashing 10a and before hard reset should I also flash ICS xloader and uboot or do they come with the 10g?
I'm with same problem, but my model is p768. Im still trying to find a solution to unlock bootloader/CWM/Root
I have P769. The same thing, "adb reboot oem-unlock" just reboot the phone, without anything else.
Edit: a few more tries and now I'm unlocked.

The x-loader is not found in the kdz, but the u-boot is.
Try flashing the u boot for ice in fastboot, then flash the 20b kdz.
If this didn't work, reflash the 20b kdz, but when it starts to boot up, turn it off and flash the u-boot from 20b in fastboot and try.
maybe the u-boot is not getting over written. It's easy for a p769 model owner to tell if they are on the 20b u-boot (inverted lg logo), but not for the other models.

You do have the inverted lg logo at boot, right?
You might want to try what I did.
When I was flashing the 20b kdz, I swapped the 11th bin (to root) and the p760.fls (radio file).
I extracted the 20d kdz and renamed the p769.fls to p760.fls
I didn't get root (something went wrong) but I had a network signal and could make calls.
I did make/received a couple of calls while on the 20b.
I think I waited like 4 to 5 hours before trying to unlock.

I have the same problem , what can I do? I waited 30 minutes and also I tried with different versions (spain open)
Up,
Same problem there on my P760
Tried some differents kdz, 20B from my default carrier (SFR), 20B europe open & 20H Europe Open,
With this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189646, This one too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190326
Actually Rooted & With Artas' recovery 1.5
For me the first few times I try "adb reboot oem-unlock" the phone just reboot. I don't know what to do at first. Worse I have P769 and with the P760 rom on it, the phone is not usable. Then I just leave the phone there and do my own things for a few hours. When I come back, I thought I should try one more time before giving up, it all works out. Maybe I didn't wait long enough with my previous attempt. Anyway I'm done and looking back it was difficult (with my P769 this is true).

Do you think it makes a difference if I root and flash the new radio with cwm, compared to your way where you just replace radio the file?
Also is the radio file exactly named p769.fls and is it in the folder where we replace the 11th bin? Thank you
Same Issue but solved
maybe the 30 minute time is just a rough estimate. I flashed my p765 with p760 v20h and did a hard-reset(because of "com.android.phone stop" issue) and then waited for about 20 minutes with SIM and wifi on, until I turn on the mobile network switch. Then after exactlly 30 minutes I tried but failed. I googled and found this thread. After that I made a second try and worked.
So maybe just remember: 1.insert SIM 2.turn both wifi and mobile network on (not sure which matters) 3.Be patient
it may be that those who are succeeding have a different firmware / ROM version, and / or, their ROM is from a different carrier. i have CWM installed, i'm rooted, and i still cant get into the bootloader to get fastboot to unlock it, nor does this adb oem-unlock method work. fwiw, i'm using v20d TMO USA. i'll post back if i ever figure out how to get the damned fastboot to work...

Hello everyone,
As an owner of two Japanese LGL22 (a variant of the LG G2 made for Japan, with a waterproof body and Micro SD capabilities), I thought AU, the original carrier, was kind to have allowed its users to unlock the phone, a rare procedure in Japan where the vast majority of phones are locked to one specific network. I was using a super high end device, that had cost me around 20,000yen, on the DoCoMo network for a very cheap price. Then, the horror rolled out. It was meant to be a simple firmware update for "stability improvements", little did I know that the stability AU was referring to, was to their own profits.
Version LGL2220F removed the LG hidden menu, prevented use of a non AU SIM card, and returned the phone to its original locked status. My partner and I were upset. This needed to be fixed. The LGL22, while popular in Japan, is not in the rest of the world, so it was impossible to find a way to fix the SIM lock. After searching for a few months, I came by a solution, through various translations of Japan's 2chan community and message board posts.
Below, is how I fixed my phones.
This method DOES NOT require root access.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
DOWNLOADS
- LG flash tool 2014, download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
- LG driver, download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
- The correct Firmware (LGL2220D_00.kdz), located under the "Firmwares" section of the following page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51177684)
HARDWARE
- Your LG L22, at 100% charge
- A reliable USB cable
INSTRUCTIONS
As per usual, proceed with due caution. This method was tested on two separate devices successfully but I cannot guarantee, and will not take any responsibility to what happens to your phone.
ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED. BACKUP BEFORE STARTING
1) Install LG flash tool 2014 to an easy to access location and the LG driver.
2) Turn OFF your phone and DO NOT connect it to the PC
3) Press and HOLD volume up while connecting your device to the PC. Keep HOLDING
4) RELEASE volume up when Download Mode (or something like that) appears on the screen
5) Run LG flash tool 2014 as administrator (Type: CDMA, Version: LGL2220D_00.kdz, Phonemode: DIAG, Reset Time: 33000)
6) Under "Select KDZ file", navigate to the KDZ file LGL2220D_00.kdz you just downloaded
7) Select CSE Flash
8) Hit "Start" at the bottom right corner
9) IGNORE language selection, just accept
10) WAIT for install to complete. It will take about 10 minutes. You can trace the progress on your phone. If all is well you will see a "COM" message written in green along with a progress bar. WAIT until your phone finishes installing its apps. (If LG flash tool 2014 doesn't see the device after starting, it will tell you so. Just unplug it from your PC and plug it back in and wait)

Hi all,
I've spent a rather frustrating week or so in the throes of searching Google and XDA to figure out how to get my brand new RS988 upgraded to the 21c software version on Nougat. Here's what I've done so far:
-Check for OTA updates using the OS. No dice...it went from 11a to 11c and will not find any further updates.
-Use LG Bridge to try to update the software. No dice. The software tries to get the current OS version and then says "cannot find operating system version" and won't contact home base to get the new files.
-Reboot into boot loader to install TWRP. No dice...the phone will not reboot into the boot loader for some reason. I've tried using both the ADB method of "adb reboot bootloader" and "adb reboot-bootloader", but both just have it reboot into the full OS. I've also tried powering on the phone while holding the volume down button, to no avail.
-All root and TWRP methods, and even getting the official bootloader unlock require booting into the boot loader
The one thing I *have* been able to get to work was re-flashing a KDZ of the RS98811c software from autoprime's linked repository.
As best as I can tell, I am stuck. Without being able to install TWRP via the boot loader I don't know how to update the software. Please help me figure this out!
Edit: additional device info added
Android version: 6.0.1, 2016-07-01 security patch
Baseband version: MPSS.TH.2.0.c1.4-00010-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.43591.5
Kernel: 3.18.20
Build: MMB29M
Configuration: F15.LGE.RS988.0
Software version: RS98811c
Security software: MDF v2.0 Release 1
Thanks!
Use lg up
It's possible that you have the RS988.BPT version (Brightpoint), which only got updated to 11h, I believe. I sent in a RS988.USA version, and they swapped for a new BPT motherboard. I've since sent it back yet again to get that resolved.
It appears to be a Tracfone Wireless version, according to the box, at least. It was supposed to be new, not refurb, so fingers crossed that's all good as well. Even if it was the Brightpoint version, wouldn't that have been fixed when I flashed the USA stock ROM?
I also don't see how to use LG UP to reboot into boot loader mode. It only shows me the phone, with nothing clickable, and a selection of 4 processes: refurbish, upgrade, phonesetting, and FOTA upgrade. Not wanting to mess up my phone, I am trying to be cautious about just trying either of the latter two options. Especially without a file there. Thoughts?
You did unlock the bootloader am I correct?

Nope. I can't get into the bootloader (unless I've totally missed a method to do that). Even the instructions on LG's website pre-suppose that you can enter the bootloader. Step 9 on their bootloader unlock instructions say:
9. Enter your phone’s unique Device ID. You can view the Device ID by connecting your phone to the PC using a USB cable and entering "adb reboot bootloader" in DOS command window of the folder you created in previous step (for example: C:\tools). Your phone will reboot into the fastboot mode. Enter "fastboot oem device-id" in DOS command window.

Unfortunately, issuing that command simply reboots the phone without a bootloader in sight. Any commands issued by fastboot after the "adb reboot bootloader" command just sit there saying "waiting for device". I think if I could get this far, the excellent instructions elsewhere on these forums would have me sorted the rest of the way, since then I could use TWRP to flash a more recent OS version. Thus far, it's only LG UP which works, which also requires a .KDZ file, but I can't find one for any version > 11c.
One further edit - I re-read autoprime's instructions and was at least able to get the phone to boot into recovery mode. (I can't tell whether the grey or white highlight is the "active" selection, so I haven't tried selecting one since I'd rather not wipe my device unnecessarily.) But in that mode it won't connect to my Win10 machine for adb or fastboot to do anything. Still can't get it into fastboot mode using "adb reboot bootloader". What am I missing? Feel free to be super-basic, since it's probably something of that sort.

Simple answer is "You can't". I am in the same boat, stuck on 11c with no OTAs in sight. The ability to boot into the bootloader wasn't added until a later version (11h, I think?) So until/unless LG releases a KDZ of one of the later versions, you (and I) are out of luck.
Further futile time spent with LG revealed one more issue: the phone apparently was originally for Tracfone. (Never mind that I bought something specified as RS988.AUSATN and not as RS988.ATFNTN.) LG claims they have no say in the operating system or updates (even before they determined it was Tracfone) and now Tracfone says LG is solely responsible for the OS.
What is going on with these jokers?

Hey AdamDG, were you able to solve your issue? I am stuck with the same situation and asinine LG folks won't help me out because Total Wireless/Tracfone are supposed to take care of the matter. But the latter are not responsible for software updates because they are MVNOs and don't (need to) care.
Truly jokers, but more importantly, taking customers for a s(laughter) ride!
Hello, my first post here.
So, 3 months ago my samsung j7 touch became unresponsive after OTA update to 8.0 oreo. I emailed samsung and they tild me I need a touch replacement. So i put the phone aside until I read an article somewhere which said this was due to the update and not hardware
So i tried to downgrade to Nougat with Odin but the problem was it was OEM locked. I tried to unlock it with miraclebox (I once did it with another phone) but miracle box failed and bricked the phone
So now I have a bricked phone which is oem locked and i tried using odin to flash stock rom with no luck (i think because of oem lock?) I tried using smart switch but the latest version doesn't have a device initialization option and when I tried being smart by downloading the older version, still it is not working like then. So am stranded here any HELP please fellas?
Found something what may work
1. Download Kies Pc suite
3. Boot into download mode and connect the phone into your computer
2. Run Kies Pc suite
3. Now you will see a message “added”.
4. Now Select “tools” option -> select “firmware upgrade” option.
5. Now type your model number and imei number carefully.
6. Press ok and follow the instructions.
Greetings all, I have come to ask for advice on how to debrick my lg v60 version V600TM20n. First, how I ended up in this situation.
To begin, I followed this guide to unlock bootloader and root my phone then I followed this guide in an attempt to install a custom rom however, i did not get too far.
I tried to remove vbmeta verity as per the requirements of the form and in doing so input this line into my bootloader fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img with the file provided by this form I think this is where the issue I have is comming from but moving on.
I then attempted to download lineage os following the guide but it did not work and I was fed up by this point to I began the process of reverting everything I did. I downloaded SuperSu to deroot my device. After derooting my device I went to the bootloader and typed in fastboot oem lock, locking my device and dooming me.
In my attempts to escape from the hell I am currently in I downloaded LGUP v1.16.03 and v1.14 (I tried them both deleting the previous one before installing the new one) yet each time I was stuck with the this error code Error Code = 0x2000, Invalid command response when the progress bar reach 9%.
The dll i used is version 0.0.3.23 and the one provided by LGUP v.1.16.03, and the firmware I attempted to download was V600TM20n_02_TMO_US_OP_0111.kdz on LGUP it says V600TM20n oh and also I did try UPPERCUT, no resuts
Currently on my phone's download mode screen at the bottom in red it says Modified / E / L / RO / id : 3(NA2_US) I have also tried LGUP Cmd but same results
I have tried LG bridge but it says connecting and then no device found :/
I wish i could say i tried lg flash tool but i have no idea on how to use it
Possibly another big mistake (idk what im doin) I used the QFIL and restore the abl_a and abl_b to their original versions after locking the bootloader.
Please tell me if there is anything else I can do or if I now own a $300 brick. If I do have a $300 brick is there any value I can get from it to fund my walmart flip phone that I will have to buy?
