Hi guys,
That's a lot of text to read but when you guys advice me about that whole situation it can serve other people to plan and make their phone flashed without bricking it.
I need your opinion and advice on my move from Jelly Bean to KitKat. I have Lenovo P780 (China version) bought before 03.2014. My ROM is VIBEROM_V1.0_1347_3_ST_P780.
In general i'm happy with this rom, but after so long time of using it I would like to change it to more faster KitKat. And I would like to stick with VIBEUI because as i've said i'm happy with it. So I chose the newest: VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780. I know it has only english and this other language but I don't use my native language even now when i have that option. Is it worth to flash it? Some people said about earlier version of kitkat it was buggy, and that JB is more stable than KK, but now after so much time of development it should be ready to smooth usage, right?
What I've done already:
I have istalled driver for preloader, lenovo usb drivers and adb drivers and then rooted with Kingoroot (of course on developer state and enabled usb debugging).
Then I made my copy of ROM through mtk droid tools, so I have istalled supersu but only for binaries (because mtk droid demanded them), then istalled busybox (from google play and hit install inside an app). And then I made copy of rom in mtk droid tools. But first hit „root” and then made backup, which was done without any error and is also prepared for SP Flash Tool. (I had trouble with backup because it ended with error but it was due to my default write disk in lenovo which was set on external storage, so mtk droid was writing image of ROM on built-in storage, which is, as you all know, very small, so i've changed default write disk and i was good to go).
I have done also backup of imei and nvram through mtk droid tools and backup of imei through mobile uncle tools.
THAT'S ALL I HAVE DONE. I didn't do anything besides this.
So first question: Is this enough? I mean root, drivers, backup of rom and imei.
Second question: What about „locked bootloader”? I've read a lot but in case of Lenovo P780 i've never read anything on locked bootloader besides one site but i can't insert url on my post because i'm new
So do I need to do sth with bootloader or it is unnecessary?
Next flashing: For downloading rom I used rather the most popular site with roms: needrom. I downloaded VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780_OLK_W_3D22.zip. In this site is also scheme how to flash it. They say this stock rom should be flashed through CWM (I downloaded this recovery from their site):
Step 1: Download the custom ROM copied to an external SD card root directory
Step 2: the shutdown state. While holding down:
– Power button + volume button up, to enter the recovery mode.
– Wipe Data / Factory Reset -> delete all user data
– Wipe Cache Partition -> Wipe cache
– Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
Step 3: Return to recovery main interface Install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> Select your ROM
Step 4: Brush complete, restart the phone Patience required – first boot takes a while
Is this complete scheme? Because in xda i've found other way:
Install Vibe ROM, same as step 4 and then:
Step 5. Install Gapps
Step 6. Install SuperSU
Step 7. Wipe data/cache (Factory Reset) and reboot. Done
Sorry for carefullness but i don't want to brick my lenovo and it's better to ask with stupid questions than don't ask and flash. Also my brother had lenovo s650 but after conneting charger with electric socket it burned → then send on warranty to china --> then nothing... So... yeah i'm cautious.
I'm planning to flash cwm from needrom (same page as for stock rom) through mobile uncle tools (of course i will backup my contacts and other stuff). Or maybe it's better to create cwm recovery through mtk droid tools?
Then flash new vibe ui. Should I done this way or is it better other way? Like using stock revovery (but phone is rooted, i know i can remove root but i don't know if this rom is modded in any way so xda users didn't recommend to flash with stock recovery) or doing factory reset and then flashing with stock recovery ( i suppose doing factory reset can be done no matter if rooted, modded, etc., am i right? Then i should be available to make update through system settings?)? Asking because some guys said thay haven't managed to flash stock rom through cwm.
Now let's skip to Kitkat. Supposing i have done flashing properly through cwm i will have Kitkat vibe in stock version. So what then? I suppose i will need to:
1. root it (with kingoroot or iroot or sth like that because there are some problems with root on kitkat, right?)
2. get rid of ****ty china apps through root (suppose there will be around 10 apps to delete, so i will just run ie. kinguser and delete this system apps?)
3. install compatible recovery through mobile uncle tools (cwm or twrp, but in xda rather reign twrp) to flash gapps and maybe supersu if it's possible? Because i've read there are problems with framaroot on vibe but this regards only to framaroot or supersu too?
4. maybe restore imei, if it's lost
5. flash new modem (suppose this one i have now: V52?)
That's rather all, right?
Thanks in advance for your patience in reading and your opinions !

Hi. Alot of writing here! My eyes are like snail eyes now after all this reading!
1. KingoRoot will do fine! Framaroot is not working in KitKat.
2. Before eliminate china apps try to do a full backup of your firmware.
3. Install TWRP, you will find here some.
4. IMEI is lost only if you flash firmware with FlashTool! Not your case.
5. Flash modem... look for my post and you have there alot of KitKat modem software!
6. Yes in general this is all!
7. More tweaks are made, by every user. Depends on every user choices!
8. Good Luck.
I'm after upgrading to kitkat and.... all i can say is:
1. upgraded to kitkat VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780_OLK_W_3D22 through cwm (carliv for p780 cn, you can found them on www|ambrand|net/Android) and a nightmare came...
2. i was able to install Kingoroot but i wasn't able to flash any gapps (i had in system apps google play services but only this and after manual install of google store it: "unfortunately stopped" every time) and superuser... and when rebooted into recovery throug mobileuncle tools my binaries for kingoroot where lost so every time I needed to root again...
3. kingoroot helped only with uninstalling user apps not system apps... titanium backup kept saying it works only with supersu...
4. tried flashing gapps with different cwm and twrp --> no success...
5. generally vibe ui is very beautiful, and works slightly better than vibe JB
6. after like 8 hours of trying to get my kitkat to usable state, I gave up...
7. through searching the internet i found VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780mix_pansy_1_pl_ 28_03_15, so installed and now it seems to be good, it is mostly for polish users but there is also english inside and it has:
-root
-gaaps
-Xperia keyboard
-Titanium Backup
-Root Explorer
-Sony (Walkman)
-Lenowo launcher 6.8.289
-Lenovo dialer 3.8
-browser Dolphin
-Android browser
-SYNCit 1.1.14
-it has a lot of apps deleted, as you can see it has walkman from sony, so lenovo music app is gone, but performance of whole system is good, so if nothing wrong will happen i will stick with it
8. also it has kinguser (not from kingoroot) installed, but i think from zip named: Android_4.4_x_root, i haven't flashed this zip so now i slightly regreted because it might work then, but maybe some day i will do a backup and waste another day to challenge with stock rom especially with finding working gapps...

I understand what you deed! But here in development area, are alot of firmware! Clean firmware, rooted firmware, etc,
My posts are in Development section.
Hi guys,
just sharing my latest adventure with kitkat...
VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780mix_pansy_1_pl_ 28_03_15 was not working on 100% because for example I wasn't able to receive incoming calls...
so flashed again*VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780_OLK_W_3D22 <-- stock version, and managed to make it work 100%
so in cwm (used "recovery_cwm_kk_mod_P780":
1. Wipe data/ factory reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik cache
4. install zip from sdcard "VIBEUI_V2.0_1512_7.149.1_ST_P780_OLK_W_3D22"
5. install zip from sdcard "Android_4.4_x_root" <-- that is 100% working root, not like kingoroot...
6. after installation of root phone rebooted automatically
7. back to cwm and install zip from sdcard "YourZgappsXS-4.4-2014.06.18" <-- that also 100% working gapps
8. deleting china apps if you haven't done after first reboot ;p
9. make backup !! ;p
Those mentioned zips you can download easily with the help of uncle Google
Thank you guys for advices, especially stympy

It took nearly 24 hours to upload due to my dreadful internet connection but here it is, the latest Android version for the galaxy Mega I9200 AKA Kit Kat I9200XXUDNE4, repacked with a full Knox free bootloader.:good:
DISCLAIMER
I'm not responsible for anything, as usual procede only if you know what you do, and make a backup beforehands in case things go out of control.
This said since this ROM is Knox free you will be able to get back to 4.2.2 or to whatever ROM you want in case you don't like Kit Kat.
IMPORTANT
You can flash this ROM ONLY if you come from a non Knox Rom.
It means that if you were on a ROM that had Knox, like the latest 4.2.2 versions, you can't flash this ROM and in that case you'll have to go for the regular 4.4.2 Knox version available at sammobile.
BEFORE TO FLASH
Get a custom recovery, cuz this ROM comes without any recovery.
Why?
Because at the time I was testing it I kept my custom recovery to see if I could reuse it with Kit Kat, and since it worked, and since I don't want to loose again 24 hours to upload an other ROM with a recovery, you'll have to go like this.
There are plenty of custom recoveries on the forum, as for me I use that one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415294
but you can use any one you like, it doesn't matter as long as it has been installed BEFORE to flash Kit Kat.
Edit
If for some reasons you want to stick to stock recovery head to post #5, I've attached it there with some instructions.
THE FLASH
Download the ROM, unrar it and you'll get a tar.md5 file.
Open ODIN 3.04, put the file in the PDA section.
On your phone, enter download mode (press volume down and start at the same time), then connect it to your computer.
Once it has been recognized by Odin (it gets blue on the left upper case) start the flash.
It will take approx 5 mns before it reboots, that's it.
If everything goes ok it will reboot twice and then it will enter the set up wizard.
It could be that some app forces close and that it reboots one more time, in that case you'll have to enter recovery and format /data (and since you have a custom recovery you can do so without erasing your sd card contents).
ROOT
Easy, download the latest SuperSU_1.94.zip from the master chainfire, flash it from recovery, reboot, voila.
REMOVING THE LAST KNOX TRACES:
This has to be done manually (I could have done it and repacked/uploaded a new pre rooted ROM with everything done but sorry, my connection is too slow )
There are some Knox apps in the /system/app folder and in the system/priv-app folder:
-the ones that have Knox in their name are easy to guess;
-one is called KLMSAgent and should be deleted as well, and so too ContainerAgent.apk, ContainerAgent.odex, ContainerEventsRelayManager.apk and ContainerEventsRelayManager.odex.
In the /system/lib folder delete libknoxdrawglfunction.so.
Delete completely the system/preloadedkiosk folder and the system/preloadedsso folder.
In data/data delete the com.sec.knox.seandroid folder and the com.sec.knox.store, and the other com.sec.knox whatever folders there are.
Enjoy!!!:silly:
Stay tuned, in the coming days I will put some mods here...
I already made a deodexed version but I don't think I will upload it since it takes too long (24 hours again), so if anyone with a better connection feels like doing it he or she is welcome!

Yep, I have to be serious:cyclops: so here it is, I packed a stock recovery in case someone needs it for some reason (s).
It took (only) 15 mns to upload (not bad for a 10 mb file )...
Download the file, open Odin 3.04, put the file in PDA, flash, now you have KK's stock recovery, boooooo:laugh:
http://d-h.st/PGb
@bnb25
nope, you can't flash the ROM from recovery.
If some people are interested I can upload the deodexed version in the coming days when I have time, unless someone else does it before
I flashed somr stock rooted Rom awhile ago on the gf's phone. I been waiting on this update b4 doing anything. The phone acts up. Performance issues. She keeps ot close to full. Moving to sdcard doesn't work anymore. (That broke b4 filling the phone up. But didn't know that when we bought a 16gb sdcard.) So....thus has knox removed. You mentioned stock recovery as an option. You mean the stock kitkat recovery for the phone? Meaning that will introduce knox if you choose it? And if you do choose stock recovery with knox it can be rooted right? Just saying cause usually when first comes out it takes a lil time for someone to root it.

i try this rom for 10 minutes and it keep restarting..
so i flash again with ODIN 3.04, and it keep restarting again..
i have wipe data and cache+dalvik, i use twrp recovery.
can you troubleshoot this problem?
thank you :good:
sorry for my bad english...
Works fine for me. I had latest official 4.2.2 rom; I then flash a custom recovery and a rooted rom before I flash this rom via odin. After flashing this rom, I wiped it factory reset. All is well for me. 24hrs now. Thumbs up me general.....

@ninja_unmatched:
the recovery I attached is the stock KK recovery, and AFAIK it doesn't have Knox in it. About rooting a Knox cursed ROM, some people say it's easy but I don't have any personal experience on that matter.
But anyway, why don't you want to use a custom recovery?
I kept the CWM I had on 4.2.2, and after I upgraded to 4.4.2 it took me 2 minutes to root with Chainfire's SuperSu_1.94.zip...
So now I'm on Knox free KK, with custom recovery and root.
@congquer:
do a full factory reset and see if it helps.
@fpage:
nice to read that it works fine for you!:good:
@all:
if you are rooted and want to enable quad multi windows view (up to 4 apps opened at once on the same screen, fully resizable), check my thread in the themes and apps section..:
One of the best KK's new features cool:...
works like a charm, i've installed via odin, but lost root for some reason
Well the girl is like any other nooby internet user. She knows enough to get it infected over and over....lol. Knox actually helps a lil with that. I used to use my phone (Note 3) to check questionable sites out for clients. Knox would do its pop ups alerting me to there being something going on that I do not want. It has actually helped....weird thing sort of. Now of course it doesn't do that anymore but for her......it might lower my headaches if you know what I mean?
But...no I'm about to try it out now anyways after I backup her phone.

It could be that some app forces close and that it reboots one more time, in that case you'll have to enter recovery and format /data
This step right here causes the same boot loop mentioned. An app forces closes just like you said. soon as you format /data after a reboot it goes into a boot loop. I am also using TWRP 2.7
You have to clear cache not data. Even with that alot of apps just force close.

I am rooted and working like a charm. Quad window working and alot of modules via xposed installer.

Well it didn't work for me. And the supersu only caused freezing then reboot. I just went and flashed stock. Maybe I'll root it later. The process also messed with the sdcard. Made it unreadable. So I used an app (Called Photorec) to recover some of the files from the 16gb sdcard she has.

whenever I want to delete knox from system/app, it always failed to delete.
I wonder why?
@ninja_unmatched:
your girl seems to be like mine, willy to use the phone but messing it all the time, and then calling her man to fix it:cyclops:.
But you are worse tham me cuz you use her phone as a guinea pig!
The problem with SuperSu is that at first you can't install it a a system app.
In order to fix this you'll need either twrp recovery or aroma file manager ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108 ) and do as follows:
-download SuperSu zip,
-extract the app from the zip but keep the zip intact,
-flash the SuperSu zip,
-do not reboot but go to your file system while still in recovery, either from the twrp menu or by flashing the aroma file manager file,
-delete SuperSu from the system/app folder,
-reboot,
-install the SuperSu apk manually as you would with any apk.
Now you are rooted, and your SuperSu being on your data/app folder it doesn't force close anymore.
Later you can convert SuperSu into a system app from the apk's settings.
But this force close is a problem on KK, cuz everytime an app FC (not only SuperSu) the phone reboots, pretty annoying and definitely a deal breaker for me.
The messing with the files is another problem, it's because somehow KK uses another format than JB. But this one is easy to overcome, just connect your phone to your computer and copy the files to it, or you can copy them from recovery/aroma file manager (that's what I did, at first I thought it was gone but nope, it's just a format stoy) to anywhere on your phone.
@fpage:
I'm happy for you if everything works:good:
@serpentlord:
salaam manis dari Jowo!
Are you rooted? Sorry if the question sounds obvious, but if you are then deleting the Knox apks shouldn't be a problem.
Otherwise if it doesn't work, use aroma file manager (see above, and don't forget to push thanks for @amarullz our dev from Bandung!) and delete the Knox stuff from within recovery.
That said I went back to 4.2.2, this KK is plagued with bugs and I don't like the new multi windows implementation, so until they make a more stable version and until I find out whether I can implement some of JB's multi windows functions in it or not I'll stick to 4.2.2...
I'll make soon a thread about specific KK's bugs, hopefully sammy will listen but don't hold your breath
A guinea pig....lol. yeah. Only thing I ever did was flash a stock 4.2.2 rooted Rom. For wifi tethering purposes. It was fine for awhile. She starts complaining about it....I find she filled the thing up. Apps, apps, apps, mad games. I move some of the apps to the 8gb card. That helped. Later she fills it up again. I get a 16gb card and then find out it won't move anything to the card. Broke that somewhere after the 8gb card move. She goes on facebook and clicks on those questionable site posts and jave you sign up while giving them permission to post on your profile and all sorts if sites I find are questionable. That and apps from blackmart and from that site that offers hacked android games/apps.
So far now she seems fine on the stock official 4.4.2. It has a few widgets and apps in Russian. I've seen a few bugs that clear up on their own.
1. The lock screen took a bit to update. (What I mean is this. I know when playing music will say Milk it will show also on the lock screen. It wasn't doing that. Had to reboot to get that going.)
2. There is an app called Wish. It allows you to send something you think another person would be interested in that also has wish. That feature doesn't work to well. You can choose facebook or google+. FB no work at all. I think that is some other reason for that one. Google+ works but only if you choose the regular browser. Through chrome the page doesn't pop up woth the option to use the app to open the link.
And generally I've just run into these lil quarks that eventually just start working. Or partially work enough to get by.

Yes, my device is rooted. I've tried root browser, root explorer and soon. but it ends with the same result. I wonder why.
And my device also keep restarting every 10 minutes. Is it a bug?
@ninja_unmatched:
I can't tell about this wish.apk and widgets, at the time I was still on 4.4.2 I had stripped the Rom down to only about 20 system apps.
I allways do this on my ROMs cuz I don't like stock apps, I rather uninstall all that stuff and replace it by third part apps that are easier to manage and not so much on the spying/bloatware side...
@serpentlord:
what happens is probably that you have an app that forces closes, and this is what makes the phone reboot. I had the same problem and in my case it was youtube, in your case it could be any other app.
Just start your phone and keep an eye on it until it says "sorry app whatever has closed". Then if it reboots you know from wish app it comes and you can uninstall it and/or replace it with another app or another version from the same app.
hello
i have some problems with a rom based in Cyanogen 7 ( it's no official)
the keyboard is small...
there is in some way to modify it and make it bigger?
another thing is that i would like to pass apks from my pc to my htc wildfire s but there's no way the system android don't detected them
the good things is that I got 2.00 GB of free internal memory and is supposed it was installed directly to the sd , so I would like to improve and not change the rom
to prevent spam i can't put the link to download the rom , so the person who was interesed please send me a message
the rom is from another foro in spanish called htcmania
someone could help me?
thanks a lot !
The Keyboard can be changed by searching for another keyboard.apk for your phone, U can update it with google Play, or Aptoide.
Then the app problem, so you can't copy apks to your phone? and your phone doesn't install apps to sd?
Try the app:
apps2sd
or
connect your phone with your computer, install adb drivers
type in your path to yourAndroid SDK installation at Step 1:
Step 1: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
Step 2: adb devices (it should say there's a device listed when your phone is connected!)
Step 3: adb shell
=> A $ sign should pop up
Step 4 :pm setInstallLocation 2 (or, new syntax : adb shell pm set-install-location 2)
Another $ should pop up

i installed a new keyboard and the adb drivers but the problem with the apps continues i mean i can't copy apks download from my pc to my phone with a modified rom, the phone doesn't detected them.
for example i tried to download and put in my phone some apk who play store deleted for obvious reasons it is droidsheep XD
however i can download and install apks who are in play store , it is strange...
thanks for your reply ^^
Did you turn on unknown sources in Settings>Security settings ? This allows you to install apps which are not from the play store...
If this is not the issue, you should check google settings( the grey cog with a g in it ), google got this feature which blocks apps, there should be a function in these settings which stops checking your apps that you install.

If this is not the issue, you should check google settings( the grey cog with a g in it ), google got this feature which blocks apps, there should be a function in these settings which stops checking your apps that you install.

okey , i will check the google settings , anyway i am sick of this rom ... some apps like google play are continually restart
and a few days later I have noticed that the apks who i want to install from the google play (when it's installed ) restart the phone
that rom have some bugs...
thanks for the reply , but i will not continue with this rom , i make another post asking how i can change modified rom to oficial rom in the htc wildfire s , i don't find anything for this phone in google ...
thanks a lot ^^
Allright, well the problem could lie in your gapps, a corupt google play service can cause alot of trouble and Force Closes on your phone, also when you installed yothe mod, did you wipe everything? (Dalvik cache, Data, cache ...) Don't have the phone so can't test anything, might do some research tho
good luck further!

yes , about the custom rom i wipe everything so i think that was a fault from the chef T_T
pd: do you know how i can change modified rom to oficial rom in the htc wildfire s ?
thanks for your reply again :fingers-crossed:
Well I don't really understand what you mean, but the thing I understand out of it is that you want to go back to a stock Firmware or Rom?
I'd recommend backing everything up firstly (don't forget all your contacts!) .
Then go into recovery and do a factory reset / or Data, Dalvik cache & cache Wipe... (system should be wiped for modified stuff like battery improvements, added scripts, etc. ...)
& that's it for going back to your stock rom.
If you want to go back to stock firmware you should search what type of phone you have (the nickname , single sim or dual sim , all this) and look for stock firmware (.ftf Files)
To get this flashed on your phone you gotta use a flash tool and a computer.
For further information you should read some tutorials on how to flash firmware.

i was talking about the firmware , but i called it oficial rom sorry xD
in a spanish foro called htcmania the moderator told me: You can only install an equal or higher version .
the rom has a version 2.3.7 and the firmware that i would like to install has a 2.3.5 version
anyway, there was a tutorial who explain how downgrade the version of the rom?
thanks ^^
Well you can downgrade, if it is availble for your phone... Better so some more research regarding your phone and just try it.
I have a Note 2 (obviously), and I have rooted my phone the first day I got it and have never updated the phone since I purchased it. So, I am still on 4.1.2. My phone has been super laggy and I want to take the oppurtunity the when I reset my phone that I can take advatages of the new features that mobile phones have by upgrading all the way to 5.1.x.
So, I downloaded CM 12.1 by wilson3q with 5.1 system. I first tried the 5.0 version since the 5.1 looked too new, and did not have time to deal with the bugs. When I flashed the 5.0 version, I got errors of not being able to flash gapps for 5.0 and that I lost my root. I tried downloading the new TWRP to see if I can get a newer version that would work better, but no luck. I got an error saying that I lost my root privileges and did I want TWRP to fix it. I slid yes to fix, but no luck.
The same problem occurred when I tried with 5.1.
So, I ended up restoring my nandroid backup and I am back on 4.1.2 again with root working again.
I am thinking that I am probably supposed to 'step up' the updates, but not sure. Does anyone have a solution or a link to the solution that they can help with?
PS: I did not like the camera that came with the new mod. I do like the stock one. Are there flashes of cameras that I can use as well when I do end up upgrading?
Thank you in advance!!!

Try Phiz recovery, I've never had trouble with "[I605][CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch". If I recall we had to start using that one when kit-kat was released (i reserve the right to recall poorly)
I have a link to download mirror here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60899023&postcount=146
from your new recovery, you should be able to install CM12.1 and 5.1 gaaps recommended in the Wilson3Q i605 thread. from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/development/rom-unofficial-build-i605-t3069506
FWIW, I am on the 20150803 build and still using the GApps Minimal Edition 2015-04-04 for Android 5.1 (91 MB) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-google-apps-minimal-edition-t2943330
with no issues to report.
You may also need to track down updated radios (to flash from CWM). I think you can find a link to the updated ND7 Modem/Baseband here:

PS you may want to flash superSU from recovery... get the zip from chainfire's xda thread here:

(I've been dirty flashing for so long I dont' remember if the rom came with SuperSU or superuser... as such I can't recall if I had to flash this zip or not, but I probably did if I had issues with root)
Note you may also need to enable root from the settings menu after enabling developer mode.
there should be a "root access" option (or somehting like that there)
PPS are you also remembering to wipe data & clear cache/dalvik?
I have found zoot's mega wipe useful...

I assume that you are giving steps in order, BUT I feel that I should flash the radio to 4.4.2 first, in which the link was broken. I have spent a couple hours trying to find another link, but I am afraid that I may be using an incorrect one. Do you have a good link for that, please?
Also, I have ready the newest Samsung 3.10 Odin downloaded and installed, as well as the USB driver installed and downloaded the ADB fastboot. If I remember correctly, I am supposed to move this onto C: and run it to access the device (Note 2). It has been since Android first came out since I have used the ADB though. So, I apologize for the ignorance. So, do I just make sure the adb is in the same directory and run Odin or did I not need ADB and just run Odin?
I also assume that I run the Philz touch after I have gotten to 4.4.2 rooted first. Am I correct by assuming that?

Yes, I have done a cache/dalvik wipe a few times (because I have tried reflashing to get it to work with no luck).
I have downloaded the .zip version of superSU as well, and gapps minimal 5.1 with wilson3q's 5.1 ROM. So, I am almost ready to go with the exception of the correct radio upgrade file.

Just flash philz from twrp. Reboot recovery wipe/reset... then flash new ROM gaaps... Wipe/reset... Then reboot.
I can post the radio zip to my site later tonight. I believe you can flash that last, or later (from philz cwm, after getting on cm12.1)
Same as superSU. Check out ROM first. It comes with root that can be enabled in developer options. you can always reboot to recovery later and flash the zip.
PS. WiFi tether built into ROM "hotspot" (no VZW subscription required)
Pps try this for the nd7 radios

Sorry to bother you, but I still am getting errors with Failed root access for Titanium Backup Pro. I also cannot find Developer Options in the settings menu.
I have tried flashing the radio before and after wiping and installing the ROM then gapps then superSU. I get into superSU and it asks me for root access and I grant it, but Titanium Backup Pro still says that it has no root access.
Any ideas? Thank YOU!!

with SuperSU installed, you may need to just need to update binaries. open SuperSU and it should prompt you if necessary. the "normal" option should work (no need to flash from recovery)
for TiBu...
--within SuperSU settings you may need to disable (uncheck) "mount name separation".
--You may also have to enable unknown sources (under settings, security).
-- there might be something to enable for USB debugging as well (TIBU should prompt for it)
FWIW, you can restore user apps/data... but I would not attempt to restore any system data. Personally, I have found it best to get to know a fresh ROM for a while before trying to restore crap from an older ROM . there might be value in re-configuring apps manually and/or restoring them one at a time (after making sure the ROM is working properly) i.e. you won't need any of those aforementioned WiFi tether apps since it is built into the ROM now.
Instructions on enabling developer options in CM ROM, from here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_developer_options
1- In the Settings app, select About Phone (or About Tablet).
2- Scroll down, and tap the Build number entry seven times. On the seventh tap, you will be notified that "You are now a developer."
3- Return back to the main Settings menu. Developer options and Performance entries should now be visible.

(that is likely how to enable superuser that is "baked" into the rom, given you already installed SuperSU it may only complicate matters)
You may be rooted and just having TiBu issues. If all else fails you can check with an app. A long time ago, I've used "Simple Root Checker" by SimoneDev to check root/busybox. It is still in the play store.

Thank you! It ended up being my version of Titanium Backup. I downloaded a new version and it is good. As far as restoring is concerned, I do not even want the apps themselves restored from there, because there may be a new version and would like a fresh install of those apps. I just want my data restored. For example, I have a surveillance software that I would just like to restore the entries (IP's usernames and passwords). I would like my email settings to be there, so that I do not have to re setup my 7 email addresses. My Text/SMS messages and my alarms. So, I am not trying to do a full restore.
On another note, I am trying to get my calendars back into my phone with no luck. I cannot install google calendar and get my google calendars to populate into my task widget, and the ROM is not letting me set up my POP email addresses. Also, I see no ringtones, so I have no ringers to ring my phone nor tones for my alarm clock. I flashed gapps for 5.1 and I see nothing extra from the ROM. I thought gapps was google apps. Am I trying to do stuff differently than you? There seems to be a few problems in that manner that I am trying to work with.
I am thinking of downgrading to 5.0. Maybe the 5.1 is too new?
Again, THANK YOU for your help!

I wouldn't downgrade, nobody is actively working on 5.0.2 anymore.... that thread is basically dead. Also, it is likely less "stable"/mature than what you have installed now (that is currently being maintained). i.e. you have the ROM that I would stick with.
like I said I wouldn't restore any thing into system (apps or data)... you can do whatever you please. (but it could be causing you more issues than just biting the bullet & configuring manually) i.e. restoring accounts might result in unanticipated issues, you came from a much older version of android.
all I had to do was install google calendar from play store and then the CM12 calendar stuff all worked (I might have had to restart and/or install the google calendar prior to setting up primary gmail). you might need to remove all your accounts and load them again (a factory reset might be faster though.)
also you might have to update google services and the play store before certain things "play nice".
I know you don't want to hear this but...
from here on out i'll likely point to all your issues being based on restoring system data. (based on my limited knowledge and personal experience). FWIW, I'd try to reconfigure/setup everything manually and you will likely have much better results.

I figured that, and feared that and the same time. So, what am I flashing onto the phone with gapps then? Also, one of the reasons I was wanting to go back was because there are a few apps that are not 'compatible' with this system. Meanwhile, I am going to wipe and reset again, and do what you suggested and just reconfigure.
Thanks again!

GAaps are the google apps... good read:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps
(hopefully I am not out of line for posting a link to that wiki)
many ROMS like CM don't' include gaaps due to licencing/legal issues. which is why the AOSP roms devs often have you flash the GAAPS package separately (also you can pick your package for your fact pattern... full gaaps/minimal gaaps/etc.).
Also the gaaps zip files you flash from recovery install the files into system. a lot of folks like the minimal editions of GAaps because it doesn't force all the apps into system. instead it just gets you up and running with the play store and a few essentials... that lets the user install all the other google apps as user apps, from the play store.
basically taking the "debloat" mentality as far as you can... keep stuff out of system and let the user decide what to install.
I have painted myself into a corner with a Samsung Galaxy S 2. It is my
girlfriend's phone and she wanted to play Pokemon Go. The Android
version there was 4.2 (CyanogenMod) with appropriate Google Apps. It has been
working reasonably well.
Pokemon Go needs to have at least Android 4.4, so an update was due. There was
a CyanogenMod snapshot of 12.1 (Android 5.1) which was installable from within
the old CyanogenMod. I hoped that this would go through well and we did the
upgrade. After the upgrade it indeed had Android 5.1. However, the Google Apps
directly crash, especially the Trebuchet launcher. This means that one cannot
start any apps or use any Google services. Especially the Google Play Store
does not work, it shows the error message [RH-01].
I first thought that we had upgraded to Android 4.4, therefore I installed the
Open GApps nano for 4.4:
(Due to forums policy I am not allowed to hotlink or link to the images.
So this is the best I can do now.)
http ://i.imgur.com/DRHqxNx.jpg
This then (unsurprisingly) failed:
http ://i.imgur.com/qjzrDKw.jpg
At least the error message was really helpful! So then I downloaded Open
GApps nano for 5.1. This then also failed because the GApps that I
have installed together with CyanogenMod years ago were not Open GApps but some
other package:
http ://i.imgur.com/0tI6eEn.jpg
At this point I got uneasy. Her phone turned into a paperweight with a
lockscreen. Since I could not seem to move the GApps forward without flashing
the ROM again, I tried to to so without wiping the data. For this I selected
the update mechanism in Cyanogen Recovery and flashed the Android 5.1
ROM onto the device. After this I tried to install the GApps again. However,
those still fail to install. Here I would guess that the CyanogenMod 12.1
“installer” does not wipe the system partition and leaving remnants of the old
GApps package there.
Since it got late I tried to at least get back to the old state and downloaded
the CyanogenMod with Android 4.2. Trying to flash this failed as the device
type was not picked up correctly:
http ://i.imgur.com/yZ9ilM1.jpg
I do not understand this error. This (or a very similar) version of CyanogenMod
has been present on the device up til yesterday. Why doesn't that work any
more.
A friend of mine suggested to replace the Cyanogen Recovery with the
TWRP. For this I have downloaded the appropriate IMG file from Team Win.
Then using heimdall-frontend on Linux I pulled out the PIT file and put the PIT
file back with the twrp.img file onto the recovery partition. Although the
heimdall-frontend told me that I had a success, there was still the Cyanogen
Recovery.
My current guess is that this phone has hardware which does not allow for a
separate recovery partition unless there is an IsoRec kernel installed. The
CyanogenMod 12.1 should have that, but the recovery is probably the one from
the CyanogenMod 10.1 as the option to update the recovery partition was not
checked when performing the OTA upgrade.
I'm stuck and I have no idea how to get the phone into a working condition. Do
you perhaps have an idea what I could do now?
Hi,
CM12.1 Snapshot unfortunately doesn't have isorec, hence you can not install the twrp .img file.
You can flash this and it will give you isorec kernel:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24407100847293132
You will then be able to flash TWRP here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=17876
Once that's install, reboot back into the recovery and you should have TWRP.
Wipe /system, /cache and /dalvik cache.
Flash ROM then flash gapps, then flash isorec kernel again (because once you flash ROM, you will have overwritten the kernel).
If you can't install gapps and it says you have insufficient space, use opengapps 5.1 pico instead.
gsstudios
I managed to install the IsoRec kernel. Then flashing TWRP worked and I was able to use it. The installation of Android 5.1 has worked, but I still had issues after cleaning up /system. Installing Android 4.2 or 4.4 did not help, it kept crashing either way. 4.2 even had an infinite boot loop.
Then I ended up wiping /data and installed 5.1 and the GApps Pico package. Then everything worked, even Pokémon Go.
Thank you for your help, you saved a phone from being unusable .
I have a smiliar issue. I updated to CM 13.0 as well to newest TWRP. I wanted now to install Open Gapps Pico package but can't flash because of insufficient system space.
Do you have an idea what to do now ?

As far as I have understood, one can use odin/heimdall and some modified PIT file to repartition the device and make /system larger. I suggest you further look into the partitioning of the system and make /system larger.

Tired of failed installed GAPPS ? Different reasons and many many lost time ...
Here is alternative :
1. Install UC Browser
2. Inside , you will find : 9Apps ( the same app as PlayStore )
3. Install 9Apps
- same app as PlayStore
- every app related to Google : working fine.
*** BONUS - install Video Downloader for UC Browser - search Google for this as APK file .
you can download on your phone any video on youtube , inside UC Browser .
That's it ! It's so simple and ...No more Google domination on your Phone !
I have recently acquired a P9 Plus (Chinese Version) and one of the issues with all of the Android phones sold in China is that they don't have Google services (Google in banned in China because of its refusal to comply with the Chinese internet regulations). There are ways you can install bits and pieces from the Huawei app store but it would be difficult to get all of the Google services together. There are ways already posted on XDA where you can install contact sync and app store one by one, but to me downloading through apkmirror (or any other site) could be a risk since those are uploaded by anonymous users and unless you can decompile the code and try to understand what's in those, it would be difficult to know if the apk is or is not doing something that are not designed for.
This guide assumes that you have unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP on it. Also I am not sure if you need to root the phone (which is pretty much for free once you had TWRP installed) but I had my phone rooted by the time I installed OpenGapps, obviously during this process you would have got the ADB drivers installed.
This process will wipe all user data, so please make sure you do a backup on your phone first.
First step is to download the installer zip to PC (or to SD card, I didn't have a spare SD card so I just download directly to PC), go to http://opengapps.org/, choose ARM64 (I know it is not actually ARM processor but somehow this package works, may be ARM and Kirin have compatible instruction set? That will sure make custom ROM development a lot easier!), 6.0 for OS version and choose the package you would like to have. I used nano but I am sure for other packages would work too.
Now go to TWRP on your phone. If you have downloaded the installer on your SD card you can just do Install -> select the zip and flash. I downloaded to my PC so I have to use the Sideload route, basically go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and simply do adb sideload FILE_NAME.zip (replace FILE_NAME with the actual OpenGapps package name you have downloaded). After that I originally tried to wipe caches and simply reboot but that didn't work for me.
So here is the trick, you will need to wipe Data and Internal Storage as well. I know, this sounds crazy but this is how it worked for me. If you managed to get other combinations to work feel free to suggest here as well.
What I did was I went to Wipe -> Advanced Wipe wiped Cache/Dalvik Cache, Internal Storage and Data (i.e., check everything except System and Micro SDCard) and then did a wipe.
After that, Reboot -> System.
Now once you are done with the set up, you will be greeted with an "uglier" version of the original UI (no fancy gold color!), but guess what, you should be able to see Google Play Store and you should be able to add Google accounts in Settings -> accounts.
For some reason I noticed if you try to add Google accounts you seem to be able to add one only (may be I overlooked something) so what I did was I went to the GMail app then go to Settings -> Add Account and that allows me to add the other Google accounts. Once you add a Google account on the GMail app it should be visible in other Google apps (App Store/Movies/Games, for instance) as well.
Any questions/better ideas feel free to post them below.

If you have read my post above, KangVIP has stuff that can not be removed (not easily at least), the official 198 has none of that.
If you want to post about the KangVIP ROM at least have the decency to start your own thread.
Beyond that, I don't really understand what you are trying to say.

I don't think locking does (at least with my experience in using the dload method), however if you want to unlock again later on it will wipe the phone. I'd recommend you to backup the phone before performing any of these actions though.

why is the dload not working in some instances? like on AL10, I cannot perform the dload update method, i have the latest update of emui 5.0 thats why i wanna re-lock then downgrade using hi-suit, then flash twrp and flash the updated version. it sucks,
but maybe you can help me on how to do the dload update.
