[Q] Replacing Kernel in Custom Rom zip - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone
I'd like to know what I need to do to replace a custom kernel that comes with a custom rom zip to a stock kernel?
Is it as simple as just replacing the boot.img file & /META-INF folder from a stock kernel zip with the boot.img file & /META-INF folder in the custom rom zip?
Reason why I want to do this, is to be able to flash a custom rom with a stock kernel through flashfire so I don't trip knox, since a custom kernel would trip knox.
At the moment I've got a custom rom with stock kernel on my phone with knox 0x0 but I'd like to try out some of the other great roms that are available and unfortunately they all come with custom kernels :/
I've been googling for the past hour but I'm only finding outdated information and I don't really want to rely on that lol.
Thanks in advance

no no..you only have to extract the Rom using winrar and copy the boot img over..now go to system /Lib/modules and delete the those files.. copy (if there any) the new in..and zip it again using winrar
BTW..you don't have Knox tripped..? if you are about to flash this with a custom recovery..you will trip Knox for sure

Can someone please upload a stock kernel zip update file ..I dont want to reflash my phone using kdz just because i tried out some OCed kernels ..Can one of you devs do this if it can be done ...
I'm sure one of the bright minds here can help you with that. but... why do you wnat it? are having trouble with the modified kernel for OC?
2.2 or 2.2.1?
I don't have the time but I can leave the instructions to someone which has:
1- Grab 2.2 or 2.2.1 boot.img (look in Prime ROM for 2.2.1 and Light ROM for 2.2)
2- Unpack boot.img (use dsixda's kitchen for example)
3- Extract the zImage (the file in the first folder with >2MB, it has another name but I don't recall)
4- Get the Amon_RA recovery port for P500, extract contents to some folder
5- Replace the zImage for the one you extracted in the unpacked boot.img (you have to rename it)
6- Zip it again (with no compression)
7- Sign the zip

[Q] Converting a .zip ROM into .tar to flash with Odin

I was asking if there's any way to convert a .zip ROM into a .tar ROM to flash with Odin..
The reason why I'm asking this is because I'm unable to flash any ROM via CWM recovery. I can only flash ROMs via Odin. Please see this for further information to my problem.
I'm particularly fond of the MIUI ROM, but there's no Odin version of that.. and CWM doesn't work for me

Yeah, always ._.
This is the installation instructions from adys miui rom which i usually use...not sure if you do this already but this usually works for me (wipe cache n devlik aswell)
1. Copy Zip to SDCard.k
2. Reboot to Recovery.
3. Wipe data/factory Reset.
4. Wipe /system from Mounts and Storage.
5. Install *your Rom* zip from SDCard.
6. Reboot (First boot may take time due to alot of init.d scripting)

Tried it, converted a kernel .zip file to.tar for Note 2 and it blue-screened Win7 during .tar installation. No damage to PC or phone, but DAYUM!

I don't think direct conversion like that will ever work, just ask the related developer to generate a tar file for you, ask one of the most helpful devs like salesale(NeatRom creator) or the dev of RevoltRom.

Why?
You'd need to write a script that specifies what files get flashed to where & create your own flashable zip. Or you could swap the files from the tar into an existing CWM flashable I guess; not sure if this will work tho, the script may be specific to those particular files & might not work with different ones (I'm not au fait with these scripts, hence not being sure). I personally wouldn't try this tho, just flash the tar in Odin already.
The last sentence says it all

That's easy (well can cause catastrophe if handled without proper knowledge) just use android kitchen.
Edit :Seriously though must be very careful, I used it to deodex JB firmware for my tab 7 plus (it doesn't have any proper developer support so had to do it manually) and I had a plethora of minor bug's popping up, insignificant but annoying nonetheless, quite frankly must be ready to spend hours for proper tweaking and understanding framework to build a good flashable zip, I didn't have the patience nor the time.

Could I make one for you ? Absolutely not.
I don't sit around all day doing nothing just waiting for n00bs to give me stuff to do for them. If you really want to make one, you'll work out how to do it for yourself. Or you won't *shrugs*

To build his custom stock rom ?

[Q] Init.d

Where is the init.d folder under etc in our stock rom zip?? can anyone help me please.thanks in advance
Stock Roms zip are usually encrypted. You won't be able to extract any system files from it.
If you need it, your best bet is to extract it from a phone running it, or perhaps a backup made with custom recovery.
Tapatalk with RAZR HD

Stock Rom -> Debloat -> Custom Rom

My intention is to unbloat a stock Rom (Sony Android 6 MM, unlocked bootloader)) and create a rooted custom Rom which I can flash in Recovery (Twrp/Cwm).
I already managed to extract the system.ext4 and debloat it to my needs. Now I need to put everything together and "just" create a flashable zip.
I have the following folders/files:
META-INF (unmodified, just an old copy from another guide)
System/app.../priv-app.../xbin
dualrecovery.zip
SuperSU.zip
I need some input what is the simplest way to copy & modify or create a working updater-script.
Someone help please!!!

from Online Nandroid (CWM) to flash-able zip for Odin, need Meta-inf folder

After a failed online nandroid backup recovery I just shake my head.... not again. Don't want to flash stock rom, root, custom recovery flash path again!
So, I really like to create a flashable rom from my old backup. I just lack the meta-inf.
All these make flashable threads say get the meta-inf folder from any rom. I don't think that it is THAT easy.
(I tried a Meta-inf from a custom rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-noble-rom-t3403867/page19#post69117710
, but during zipping I get an error that it could not create something....)
Where can I get a working meta-inf file for Samsung S5 G901F, that I do not need to alter or just works?
Thanks you very much.
